The flavor profile of this drink was perfect. I could've had 2 or 3 of these. Vodka pasta: (5/5) DELICIOUS. Not even being dramatic, some of the best pasta I've ever had. I was recommended this place, and omg I am so happy I went! The food was absolutely phenomenal here! I will mention I have celiac and asked for what I could safely have gluten free and was surprised they had so many options! I had the butter beef tataki, which I enjoyed but definitely better to share since it's a lot for one person. I also had the bang bang shrimp which is made with mochi flour and gives it an incredible crunch, I will mention I did not this this was spicy at all but I have a high tolerance so take that as you will. The star of the show here was absolutely the spicy vodka which I had with their gluten free noodle, I must admit that this is probably one of the best spicy vodka sauces I've ever had! Lastly, I had an affogato which they were able to do with decaf. Overall, the service was incredible. Every server and hostess was incredibly kind and attentive. They did everything they could to accommodate my celiac. Of course eat where you feel comfortable, what works for me may not for you. Lastly, the location is very vibey. The indoor and outdoor seating options are both awesome choices. They had great music playing that was not too loud and allowed patrons to be able to still chat. I was browsing on OpenTable for a place to go for lunch and I found Dovetail. It has Icon status on OpenTable, but to be honest, I've never heard of this restaurant before. It doesn't show up on social media, hadn't won any significant recognition or notable accolades. But it did have a nice Happy Day Menu (another way of saying cheaper lunch menu), so I decided to try it out. We arrived on time for our reservation. It was a beautiful day, so we decided to sit in the covered patio, which is fully enclosed, you get the warmth of the sun and no wind. It's always nice to sit on the patio in Yaletown. We ended up trying the following: - Tuna Tartare (Regular Menu): Very good. Fresh and great flavours. Good way to start the meal. - Steak Frites (Happy Day Menu): Very good. The steak is 6oz, which is basically 4 slices. It was nicely cooked, and carefully plates. The baby gem salad was really nice. I thought they were cheap on the fries, but still a pretty good value overall. - The Bolo Pasta (Happy Day Menu): Good. Nice sauce, al dente pasta. No complaints. Service was good. Server was friendly and food came in out timely manner. No complaints. Overall, a really nice lunch. I really had no expectations, so I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and cost of the food. Went to Dovetail recently and tried their Dine out menu. My first time this year, this one really caught my eye and I'm always a sucker for a good pasta so my friend and I ordered a couple of things - we also tried their Bam Bam shrimp and butter beef, and both were good, but the portions for the menu appetizers are very, very small, be warned. Our mains: Pasta à la vodka - rich, creamy, properly saucy without being too heavy. The tomato-vodka balance was so on point and this one was my absolute favorite, super tasty. Never had the type of pasta that comes with this before either, but it's soaked in the sauce really well. Carbonara - Creamy and good depth of flavour, and thankfully not too heavy either, and not overly salty, which some carbonara I've had have been. Overall vibe: Cozy, dim-lit and chill. Portions were satisfying (aka you leave full but not in pain). Great spot for date night or a girls night out. Wanted to try this place out for sometime and finally made it happen - insanely worth it! Reso's have to be made at least a month in advance if you'd like a weekend spot. My friends and I decided to go on a Saturday and try our luck on the waitlist. This was the only issue as we were quoted 1hr45 and only got seated after over 3 (either a flaw in their open table usage or preferred seating of guests), I also don't think we would've ever got a text if we didn't go back to scope it out. Regardless, the hosts and servers were prompt and kind afterward. Complimentary limoncello was a nice touch. Great mood with decor, table lay outs and lighting. Immaculate food and we wish we would've ordered more. Appys and sides are thoughtfully balanced and presented. Pastas are well cooked and flavourful. we were invited for dinner at dovetail with reservations for a party of four on a monday at 5:45 pm, and by the time we arrived, the room was already filling up. the interior sets a confident tone right away. the open kitchen anchors the space, with cooks working in full view as dishes move steadily into the dining room. the bar runs alongside the kitchen, backed by warm lighting and shelves of bottles, while wood tones, soft neutrals, and low light keep the room comfortable and unfussy. despite the crowd, we were seated toward the back, which offered some welcome privacy. we started with drinks. the red flag, made with tanqueray rangpur lime, aperol, st germain, lime, and strawberry, was sweet, bright, and easy to drink. one person got the pimm's sangria, built with lambrusco, passionfruit, orange, guava, and soda, one guest stuck with beer, while another ordered the non alcoholic plan c, featuring the house verdita with honey, ginger, fresh orange juice, and soda. we left the ordering to one friend who had been here before. the butter beef ended up being the weakest dish of the night. the butter soy sauce was heavy handed and overpowered the beef, though the crispy shallots added some texture. the table bread was simple, toasted and served with balsamic butter smeared sparingly on the plate. the pasta course was where dovetail really delivered. the mushroom pasta was easily the standout of the meal, with mafaldine tossed in a rich mushroom ragu, sherry cream, and grana padano. deeply savoury and comforting without feeling heavy. the bolo, made with tagliatelle slow cooked in beef and pork ragu and finished with pecorino, was solid and familiar, though it couldn't compete with the mushroom dish. mains were competently executed. the 12 oz centre loin cut, ordered medium rare, and paired with a lovely chimichurri and horseradish cream. the steelhead was cooked well and served with a tarragon remoulade. sides helped round things out, especially the asparagus with yuzu almond crema, sesame salt, and micro shiso. the fries were fine. dessert didn't add much. the lemon tiramisu tasted good but lacked structure, arriving more like a loose messy scoop than a composed plate, the limoncello soaked lady fingers and lemon curd kept it light. the passionfruit cheesecake was unremarkable. overall, dovetail delivers a lively dining room and a menu that shows care, especially when it comes to pasta. while not everything hit, the space and a few standout dishes make it a place worth spending time in, even on a busy monday night. read more

If you're in need of a summer patio, Dovetail is quite literally the place to visit. The ambiance is quite literally a summer perfect picture and place to catch up with friends. The brussels sprouts were incredibly salty. We asked if they could exchange another plate for us and they kindly did so. However, this time was still quite salty. We didn't ask them to switch it again though, as we didn't want to bother them even more. The butter beef tataki was incredible with flavour. Again, a bit on the saltier side as it was drenched with sauce, but I would 100% order it again. The onion crisps definitely adds to it. The spicy vodka and carbonara were delicious! The texture of the pasta is exactly as i preferred--a little harder than al dante. It does get quite heavy though.. if we knew, we would've probably only ordered one plate. I had seen Dovetail on TikTok and was excited to try it out! There were no reservations available online, but we tried our luck on a Sunday evening and got seated right away. They had a nice-looking front patio, but we were at a high-top near the bar, which was so cute and cozy. There was just booth seating on one side, so we sat next to each other - so comfy and intimate. The interior had trendy, modern decor and slightly dimmed lighting. Our server was super outgoing and walked us through all the popular menu items. For drinks, I got a glass of Nebbiolo, which was really nice. We decided to order all our food items to share - the Bang Bang Shrimp, Baby Gem Lettuce, and Spicy Vodka. I loved the crispy texture of the Bang Bang Shrimp with spicy aioli and scallions. It was a strong start to the meal, although the least impressive of the items. I was obsessed with the Baby Gem Lettuce! It was the perfect take on a Caesar salad, with every piece of lettuce getting an even distribution of dressing and finely shredded cheese - crisp with a tangy lemon flavor. I believe it's inspired by something Californian or other similar, with a light wood decor and green plants everywhere. Our server was amazing. First time in Vancouver and our flight landed late so I random booked a table for 11pm here. Ended up getting into town a little early and was starving so we decided to try to go a little early to see if they would seat us. (10:40pm so not crazy early). The first hostess was kind of rude, said our table wasn't ready yet and she would text us. Said bar was full too. So we decided to walk around to look for a bar. Every place was packed, it was cold, so we returned to try again about 5 mins later or at least wait inside near the heater. Surprisingly, another hostess saw us seated us right away. She was amazing. Our seating was a little weird. Right in the middle of a pathway. People kept trying to squeeze past us and it was annoying. Our server was amazing. She was very attentive and always checked on us. She constantly asked if we wanted to box up our left overs to save space for the next plates. She was honestly one of the best servers ever. We came on a beautiful day to have Happy Hour and snagged a seat on their patio. Really beautiful atmosphere and service was exceptional! I had heard great things about their fresh pastas and salads so I got one of each. You must get their BABY GEM LETTUCE (balsamic caesar, pangrattato, grana padano). A small is HUGE and the presentation was beautiful. I loved this salad and the ingredients were so well balanced. The pasta I got was the SPICY VODKA (lumaconi, calabrian chilli, pecorino). The pasta was beautiful and the sauce was properly coated. It had a nice kick! It was really delicious (although I prefer Pepinos vodka sauce). Another highly anticipated restaurant crossed off the list! Dovetail is a busy restaurant with a clean and polished aesthetic located in the heart of Yaletown. I came in Thursday night with 2 gfs and the place was PACKED - what a good sign. We started off with some drinks and normally I don't enjoy ordering zero proof because it really takes the value out of things but I wasn't feeling my brightest that day, so I opted for 'Plan C' (vitamin c...haha i get it). To my surprise, it was very delicious and complex. My gfs also enjoyed their cocktails as well. The 'red flag' was reported as "chugged it down like juice". Appetizers were very pleasant! The butter beef tataki was sweet, sour, and umami with tons of crispy shallots - very delicious. The bang bang shrimp was a flavour town booster as well and actually kicked in the spice department (which does not come often in non-asian restaurants), well done! Lettuce was lettuce, standard salad there. Now came the big guns...the pasta. I'm usually not a big pasta eater as I find pasta to be very heavy and carby - tough on me as I gain weight easily haha. The spicy vodka pasta is a cult favourite from what I've heard and after trying it, I completely understand why. The complex savoury flavours combined with the slight bitterness hits deep and leaves a warm feeling in my stomach. My favourite however is definitely the carbonara (I do love white sauce pasta....), the pasta was cooked perfectly and the creamy sauce combined with the mixed egg yolk was to die for!! Overall, I may have had better pasta at other places but I think this place has a special vibe that is especially appealing for someone like me who enjoys good ambiance, good food, and good service. Place was bustling. Happy for the restaurant but as a result it was really hard to have a good conversation inside. Service was prompt and satisfactory. Got the pasta ($30) and lychee martini ($12). Overall, pasta tasted great and satisfied my cravings. Portion was massive so we decided to split instead. I am not usually a martini person and found the drink a bit too sweet. It's a pretty nice easy summer drink though. Something to keep in mind is that their plant-based/vegan options are severely limited. This was my first time going to dovetail. We hit the happy hour, which is run for most of the day on the weekday. We ordered a variety of food to get a good taste of the menu, and enjoyed all of it. The only thing we didn't like much was the pea penne pasta, but the rest was 10/10. Carbonara pasta was our favourite. This place can be very pricey with the regular menu (which makes sense for the area but I will still point it out anyway because it's still pricey pasta) so recommend stopping by during the happy hour if possible. Everyone else enjoyed their pasta dishes too but at $30-34 the dishes were a bit more expensive than I would have liked which is why a star was knocked off for food. As for service, while the staff checked off the bare bones service boxes all of their interactions were pretty disengaged and they would take a while to come around each time. A friend introduced me to this place and we had some delicious cocktails (can't remember the name), the spicy vodka pasta, and the butter beef tataki. No complaints! They beef tataki was fun with flavour, the spicy vodka pasta was practially drowning in sauce (in a good way), I would recommend getting some bread if that's an option (idk i didn't get any cause I was feeling broke) to really soak up the leftovers! Can't say the staff delivered on anything incredible but they did meat the standard "what can i get for you" and "how's the food so far" criteria so very neutral 3.5/5 for me. Super cute restaurant and I highly recommend getting the mushroom toast 100/10! Their carbonara pasta was so creamy and flavourful - I'll definitely come back to try their other pastas. I would skip the steak and salmon. Service was so lovely and I had a great time celebrating my birthday here with my gfs. read more

My partner and I went here last night after attending a VSO performance. It was one of only a few restaurants open late enough where we could have dinner after the show. It was definitely a younger crowd, probably late 20s to mid 30s. We got there a little earlier than our reservation and they were able to seat us pretty quickly, which was great. We sat on the second floor in the back of the restaurant. We ordered the bang bang shrimp for appetizer, and the mushroom pasta and the chicken parmesan for mains. Their shrimp was delicious with not too much breading, not swimming in sauce, and perfectly spiced. The mushroom pasta was really good as well, nice black pepper flavour, but it was a bit too salty. I didn't really notice it at first, but after a few bites, the salt really started coming through. My partner thought it was very salty as well, and mentioned something to the server. The chicken parm was also delicious but also on the salty side. Flavour was great and chicken was breaded and cooked perfectly. We both have a fair bit of salt in our diets so I was surprised we both found the 2 mains a bit salty. We both liked everything overall though and my partner even said " we should come back here!". The service was great. Other than the salt the only other negative thing about our experience was it was loud in there. I realize that indicates the place is probably for a younger crowd, but I am 40 and my partner is 32 and we both found it to be really loud. We were sitting at a small table across from each other and literally had to shout and repeat ourselves several times for the other person to hear. We couldn't really have a conversation at all. Overall, I would go back, but maybe earlier in the daytime when the music may not be so loud so we could actually talk to each other. read more
