    Carbonara and Pasta alla Vodka
    Ana Z.

Went to Dovetail recently and tried their Dine out menu. My first time this year, this one really caught my eye and I'm always a sucker for a good pasta so my friend and I ordered a couple of things - we also tried their Bam Bam shrimp and butter beef, and both were good, but the portions for the menu appetizers are very, very small, be warned. Our mains: Pasta à la vodka - rich, creamy, properly saucy without being too heavy. The tomato-vodka balance was so on point and this one was my absolute favorite, super tasty. Never had the type of pasta that comes with this before either, but it's soaked in the sauce really well. Carbonara - Creamy and good depth of flavour, and thankfully not too heavy either, and not overly salty, which some carbonara I've had have been. Overall vibe: Cozy, dim-lit and chill. Portions were satisfying (aka you leave full but not in pain). Great spot for date night or a girls night out. Service was also decently quick, though we had to try out to flag our waiter down a couple of times. Would definitely come back to try more of the menu!

Wanted to try this place out for sometime and finally made it happen - insanely worth it! Reso's have to be made at least a month in advance if you'd like a weekend spot. My friends and I decided to go on a Saturday and try our luck on the waitlist. This was the only issue as we were quoted 1hr45 and only got seated after over 3 (either a flaw in their open table usage or preferred seating of guests), I also don't think we would've ever got a text if we didn't go back to scope it out. Regardless, the hosts and servers were prompt and kind afterward. Complimentary limoncello was a nice touch. Great mood with decor, table lay outs and lighting. Immaculate food and we wish we would've ordered more. Appys and sides are thoughtfully balanced and presented. Pastas are well cooked and flavourful. Never thought I'd be so happy with a pasta as simple as the vodka sauce ( lots of garlic, love). My martini was made to perfection and the olives were tasty and meaty. This is spot lives up to its crazy online hype!

we were invited for dinner at dovetail with reservations for a party of four on a monday at 5:45 pm, and by the time we arrived, the room was already filling up. the interior sets a confident tone right away. the open kitchen anchors the space, with cooks working in full view as dishes move steadily into the dining room. the bar runs alongside the kitchen, backed by warm lighting and shelves of bottles, while wood tones, soft neutrals, and low light keep the room comfortable and unfussy. despite the crowd, we were seated toward the back, which offered some welcome privacy. we started with drinks. the red flag, made with tanqueray rangpur lime, aperol, st germain, lime, and strawberry, was sweet, bright, and easy to drink. one person got the pimm's sangria, built with lambrusco, passionfruit, orange, guava, and soda, one guest stuck with beer, while another ordered the non alcoholic plan c, featuring the house verdita with honey, ginger, fresh orange juice, and soda. we left the ordering to one friend who had been here before. the butter beef ended up being the weakest dish of the night. the butter soy sauce was heavy handed and overpowered the beef, though the crispy shallots added some texture. the table bread was simple, toasted and served with balsamic butter smeared sparingly on the plate. the pasta course was where dovetail really delivered. the mushroom pasta was easily the standout of the meal, with mafaldine tossed in a rich mushroom ragu, sherry cream, and grana padano. deeply savoury and comforting without feeling heavy. the bolo, made with tagliatelle slow cooked in beef and pork ragu and finished with pecorino, was solid and familiar, though it couldn't compete with the mushroom dish. mains were competently executed. the 12 oz centre loin cut, ordered medium rare, and paired with a lovely chimichurri and horseradish cream. the steelhead was cooked well and served with a tarragon remoulade. sides helped round things out, especially the asparagus with yuzu almond crema, sesame salt, and micro shiso. the fries were fine. dessert didn't add much. the lemon tiramisu tasted good but lacked structure, arriving more like a loose messy scoop than a composed plate, the limoncello soaked lady fingers and lemon curd kept it light. the passionfruit cheesecake was unremarkable. overall, dovetail delivers a lively dining room and a menu that shows care, especially when it comes to pasta. while not everything hit, the space and a few standout dishes make it a place worth spending time in, even on a busy monday night.

If you're in need of a summer patio, Dovetail is quite literally the place to visit. The ambiance is quite literally a summer perfect picture and place to catch up with friends. The brussels sprouts were incredibly salty. We asked if they could exchange another plate for us and they kindly did so. However, this time was still quite salty. We didn't ask them to switch it again though, as we didn't want to bother them even more. The butter beef tataki was incredible with flavour. Again, a bit on the saltier side as it was drenched with sauce, but I would 100% order it again. The onion crisps definitely adds to it. The spicy vodka and carbonara were delicious! The texture of the pasta is exactly as i preferred--a little harder than al dante. It does get quite heavy though.. if we knew, we would've probably only ordered one plate. Parking was a pain in the ass-- as is everywhere downtown. The drinks were refreshing! This is definitely on the pricier side, but the pasta qas totally with it! I would come back for their Happy Hour!!

I had seen Dovetail on TikTok and was excited to try it out! There were no reservations available online, but we tried our luck on a Sunday evening and got seated right away. They had a nice-looking front patio, but we were at a high-top near the bar, which was so cute and cozy. There was just booth seating on one side, so we sat next to each other - so comfy and intimate. The interior had trendy, modern decor and slightly dimmed lighting. Our server was super outgoing and walked us through all the popular menu items. For drinks, I got a glass of Nebbiolo, which was really nice. We decided to order all our food items to share - the Bang Bang Shrimp, Baby Gem Lettuce, and Spicy Vodka. I loved the crispy texture of the Bang Bang Shrimp with spicy aioli and scallions. It was a strong start to the meal, although the least impressive of the items. I was obsessed with the Baby Gem Lettuce! It was the perfect take on a Caesar salad, with every piece of lettuce getting an even distribution of dressing and finely shredded cheese - crisp with a tangy lemon flavor. Finally, the Spicy Vodka was basically a Carbone dupe. The pasta was well cooked and the spice level was ideal - filling and delicious. Overall, Dovetail exceeded our expectations - would love to return one day!

Came to Dovetail for happy hour specifically for these steak frites. Always a delicious meal, and the place is such a vibe! I believe it's inspired by something Californian or other similar, with a light wood decor and green plants everywhere. Our server was amazing. Recommended our dessert and mocktails which were absolutely delicious. I wish this steak drier meal was available outside happy hour because it is my favourite thing here. Always order at medium rare, thin sliced. Also this is the only place I actually enjoy their French fries. Very good crispy and not oily. The gem salad is just chefs kiss. Perfection. Will be back again and again and again!

Dovetail was incredible! Good food, good people, good energy. Sarah was nothing short of amazing. Her energy, attentiveness, and genuine care elevated the entire night. Her ability to connect with us as customers is unmatched. The food was incredible from start to finish. We ordered the steak, meatballs, Cesar salad, but the mushroom pasta is an absolute must-order. The flavors were not overpowering, perfectly balanced, and honestly one of the best dishes I've had in a long time. The vibe here is immaculate, beautiful ambiance, great music, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer than planned. Highly, highly recommend this spot. Already looking forward to coming back!

Dovetail in Yaletown is serving up California-inspired share plates, cocktails, and all the vibes--and trust me, you'll want everything on the menu. We tried: Table bread (simple but SO good) Baby gem lettuce topped with crunchy pangrattato + grana padano--total flavor bomb Spicy vodka pasta that's creamy, rich, and packs a punch Carbonara with fun radiatore pasta (because why should penne have all the fun?) And of course, the chocolate brownie to end things on a sweet note Perfect for date nights or catching up with friends over cocktails! Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Parking 3/5

We found ourselves in Yaletown and decided to grab a light lunch. Since it was a mid-week day, the restaurant wasn't crowded at all. We were quickly seated in a cozy corner booth on their covered patio. Here's what we ordered: - Butter beef tataki - Some reviewers mentioned this dish was a bit too saucy. Our table leaned to one side, which might have played a role in that as more of the sauce pooled at the bottom. Regardless, the dish was undeniably rich and bursting with flavor! - Baby gem lettuce - This was amazing! Who knew a salad could be so exciting? It was all about the dressing, the pangrattato (crispy Italian breadcrumbs), and the grana padano (Italian cheese). I seriously could have ordered two plates of it! - Fries - Perfectly crispy and lightly seasoned, topped with that same delicious Italian cheese! - Lemon tiramisu - The hostess recommended we try this. WOW - it turned out to be the most incredible citrusy twist on a classic Italian dessert. With a soft, citrusy layer and a creamy filling, it was so good that I came back and ordered it again! Dovetail is a place I can't wait to revisit when I'm back in Vancouver! Thank you for a memorable dining experience!

Dovetail had been popping up all over my social media feeds; naturally, me and my fiancé had to go. He took me out for my birthday in late September and we luckily got a patio seat. Despite the chilly fall air, we weren't cold at all as the windows were up. The food was good but nothing worth raving over. I felt that because of all the social media raves and posts, I had super high expectations. The beef tataki was tender and the spicy vodka pasta was a wonderful al denté. Cocktails we ordered were lovely as well - sweet and it didn't taste too alcoholic (my favourite)!

Happy Hour Cheeseburger. Very similar to a Big Mac style flavour.

We went back for lunch in February and had another fantastic time. The staff are really fantastic and friendly there - even to "old" people like us, lol! This time we had: - the Bolo Ragu which was very good - the beef tataki that was waaay over-sauced, but if they fixed that, it would be excellent - the baby gem salad which was also heavily sauced, but otherwise excellent - the insanely delicious wild mushrooms on brioche toast - this was so good, we were tempted to order a second one! We also had several cocktails and as before, they were all excellent. They have a talented bartender! Overall, we've always enjoyed our visits here. It's rather fun to sit in the original location for Glowbal and reminisce about the wild times when WE were young, and all the crazy things that happened there, lol!!!

visited at 1pm on a Monday. we found parking out front. there are back in only spots on the street. we were seated right away. service was fast and attentive. all pastas are $25 for happy hour. the spicy vodka pasta was yummy. the sauce was creamy. the noodles were aldente. would recommend and would come back to try their other dishes.

Very cute interior and patio area! Perfect for catching up with girlfriends. Attentive service throughout the night. I loved the green cocktail I got which was based on the green tea shot. (I forget the name) The spicy vodka pasta was my favorite-- we couldn't stop going back for more! We also loved the creamy carbonara and perfectly seasoned shishito peppers. We heard the bang bang shrimp was popular but we thought it was just ok. It's lightly breaded shrimp tossed in mayonnaise. We didn't find it special at all and wouldn't reorder.

We came here for a Winnie the Pooh Afternoon Tea. Oh my goodness...it far exceeded my expectations!…read moreHats off to the kitchen staff for coming up with such a creative and whimsical afternoon tea. First thing that caught my eye was the cover of the afternoon tea menu. It was red with a picture of Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin printed upon it in a shiny gold colour. When flipped over, it had the menu for the afternoon tea printed upon it. I was super impressed that they even had a separate menu printed for Vegetarians. (I opted for a Vegetarian menu). There was a cute little ceramic jar that was shaped like a Honey pot, and it had sugar cubes in it! Then there was this booklet that was pages long, and divided into Chapters. It was basically the menu again, but in the form of a small book. Each Chapter of the book described different foods from the afternoon tea. The last chapter listed all the different tea flavors one could choose. When we sat down and read this menu, I heard more than one person at the table say that they wanted to take this menu home. Guess what? For the price of $25, one could take this menu home as a memento of this extraordinary afternoon tea? Maybe I'm a bit of a sucker, but how often does one get to go to an afternoon tea as special as this? And I've always been a huge fan of Winnie the Pooh. So I coughed up the $25 and brought one of these menus home with us! Food was sooo good. I loved how warm the scone was when I cut it open. This was one of my favourite items. The sandwiches were amongst my favourites as well. As phenomenal as the experience was, I do think there are a few things which could have improved the experience. For one, a bit more service would have been appreciated. I had to wave my hand in the air to get our server's attention so that I could ask her to refill our tea pots with more hot water. Would have been nice if she'd just come around a bit more often and offered to top it up for us. Tea cozies on our tea pots might have been another improvement. A lot of my tea cooled down by the time I got to it. I like my tea hot but I didn't get in very many cups of hot tea as there was a lot of food to eat and by the time I was ready to pour myself some tea to wash down my food, the tea was...not so hot anymore. Oh, and while most of the food was appropriately sized, there was this one chocolate cookie sandwich that was really gigantic and suggested to be eaten last. We were so full already from all the other foods in the afternoon tea, and then to squeeze that giant cookie sandwich in...right at the end? A smaller and daintier cookie sandwich would have been preferred. It was overall a truly phenomenal experience. Yes, I do think it could have been slightly better, but I do emphasize the word "slightly". The points lost were so minor...I would still highly recommend this afternoon tea to anyone. It was well worth the money. It's offered every weekend for now but not sure how long they'll keep this around so if you're interested in a Winnie the Pooh themed afternoon tea, I'd make a reservation for it ASAP!

The setting is cosy and relaxed atmosphere. Staff was lovely and we were not rushed. Unfortunately they require full payment at the time of booking including a tip % automatically applied. My friend really wanted to go and therefore I agreed to it this one time but I would never do it again.

For dinner we shared a diavola pizza and smoked salmon parpadelle. The pizza was good but the crust was soggy. The salmon parpadelle was good but I think it would have been better with another pasta - spaghetti, linguine or fettucine as the pasta could not be twirled with a fork and spoon and had to be cut up. The service was excellent. When our server Malaka heard that we were coming in from Abbotsford she said that she would give us the "best seat in the restaurant". When we opted to sit on the patio she gave us a complimentary tiramisu as a thank you. It was such a kind gesture. It was a nice relaxing evening and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

It left a pretty disappointing first impression, especially when the table had already been booked in advance. The service also felt rushed toward the end. The receipt was brought to us immediately after we finished eating without us asking for it, which gave the impression they wanted to turn the table over as quickly as possible. That said, the lobster poutine was actually very good. The chocolate bonbons, however, were honestly disappointing. Three very small, dry chocolate candies for $15 felt excessive and not worth ordering.
