Service was great and the ambience is lovely -- definitely a strong point. Parking is limited, so keep that in mind. Let me start by saying how elegant Brass fish is. It is decorated beautifully to give off a sophisticated atmosphere. The seating upstairs and the individual booths feel very luxurious, while there is more casual high top seating in front of the bar available as well. (Those seats did not feel comfortable though. Lacks cushioning, back support and is awkward to sit around a small table with 4 people and full cutlery) Unfortunately, where they ultimately fell short, was their food. The food was not particularly memorable or unique. I ordered the steak, which was sizeable, but was lukewarm when it arrived. Additionally, they didn't even sub in a different vegetable for my dish because I can't have asparagus. My main entree was lukewarm steak with potatoes and mushrooms. My partner's curry bowl was honestly a bit sad looking as well. The Vietnamese tiramisu didn't really leave much room for thought as it was like any other tiramisu. I went there for a happy hour dinner - ordered half dozen of oysters, a glass of red wine and steak frite. I asked the server what types of oysters are they, he didn't know and didn't bother to go to the kitchen to find out for me. The oysters were super tiny and flat. The steak frite took a long time to arrive, it was very salty and overcooked. I was pressed on time, so couldn't wait for kitchen to make me a new one. I had to keep chugging water due to the saltiness, and had to ask for water refill. I could only ate half the steak, coz yes, it's that bad. When I asked for the bill, the server gave me a full bill. Then he looked at my plate and said 'since you didn't finish your meal, I'll at least comp the wine.' Seriously? The only thing that was fine was the red wine! Other steakhouse would have apologized profusely and at least comp half of the steak frite. Last time when The Keg messed up my husband and my order, they comp our full meal plus offer us free dessert. I'm not asking for freebie, I just want decent food. I had dinner at The Brass Fish Tavern and throughly enjoyed the Calamari and Sablefish that I had for dinner. The atmosphere was inviting and clean. Unfortunately, i suffered a medical emergency while there. This is where our Server Breanna was fantastic. She helped get the materials that I needed and when I needed to get an ambulance she and her manager made sure that one was summoned. They were extremely helpful and I thank them profusely. If you have a child that needs a high chair don't go here; we had reservations here and the restaurant declined to provide a high chair as they didn't have one. Seems very odd, even for a bar focused establishment. I guess they are catering to a different crowd, even with several hotels in the area. A sports bar cleverly disguised as a classy restaurant. The server was kind and patient. TVs EVERYWHERE, and I mean everywhere. I expect screens over the bar, but big screens installed on the columns in the dining area? Came in on a Thursday evening, when no big game was playing, and the TVs were all on and playing replays all sorts of random sports. Why? The decor is gorgeous, if you can look past all the screens. The downstairs space outside the restrooms has better ambiance than the actual dining space - nice lighting, maps, all of that. The food and cocktails were hit and miss - prawn tacos were 3 guacamole tacos with maybe one prawn cut up and dispersed among them. My Rob Roy was spot on, but my partner's Oh Doctor tasted like dive bar drink. Maybe we experienced the Brass Fish mid-identity crisis. Guessing the place is being marketed by Freehouse as an after-work spot for finance bros, but the ambiance beneath that is trying for classy and dignified. Bring back the class, please! I don't see myself returning till at least the TVs on the columns in the dining area go down, or are turned off when a game isn't on. Or make like LA and show nautical videos that support the struggling ambiance and, you know, the name. read more

The Brass Fish is in a beautiful old building in downtown Vancouver that is currently being renovated, but the restaurant space is seemingly unaffected. We were greeted by a very pleasant hostess, and our server was super friendly and helpful. Our Prawn Tacos appetizer (no picture, sorry) was very tasty with a surprisingly complex combination of flavors. My chicken Katsu burger had a lightly breaded and generously sized chicken breast fillet topped with cabbage and a couple of yummy sauces. SO good! Rude! Rude! Rude! Walked in with a party of 12 and asked if they could seat us. Hostess called over a woman who appeared to be the manager to ask about seating. She walked over to us said "No" turned and left. No explanation. No apology. No customer service skills at all. Lovely place and setting. Used to be a different ownership but now it is called differently and the decor inside has been done up. Very cute. This place is definitely catered to the more to the 20-30 yr old crowd. We ordered drinks and food and it all came out in a timely manner. The food was absolutely delish. After reading some reviews on this place, yea the servers look intimidating but if you are nice to them and chat with them they are super nice. We had a lovely conversation with our server and she even recommended some places and bars to check out! I would recommend making reservations before visiting and again, this place is geared more to the younger crowd and is also run by a younger crowd. If you're old and picky then don't come here. Although happy hour has a different vibe these days with more social distancing and open space the food is still just as good! My table ordered the Pappardelle + Fried Chicken + Shishito Pepper + SableFish. The parppardelle was definitely a favourite for the table with the flavourful mushroom and lovely crunchy texture from the almond silvers in the pasta. The decor of this place speaks volumes with a whale skeleton hanging on the ceiling and I door trees all around. My colleagues and I came for happy hour earlier this month. It was a Monday so it was pretty quiet. We basically took over the second floor area. The space was cozy looking, like someone's living room with plants and couches and side tables. We ordered whole bunch of things to share. Sushi rolls are $7 during happy hour and all the starters are 20/25% off (can't remember). We ordered the fried chicken, shoestring fries, avocado crunch, all the sushi rolls, shishito peppers, cauliflower and broccoli, smoked ham croquettes and prawn tacos (didn't try this). The sushi rolls were alright, not terrible but wouldn't really recommend ordering sushi here. I liked the avocado crunch, fried chicken and smoked ham croquettes. The atmosphere was a bit intimidated and customers there are so dressed so casual and some have laptops out while working but the place gives off a more formal vibe. A weird mix really. Brass Fish checked all the boxes! Stopped by last week with two friends on a busy Saturday night and were happily welcomed in without a reservation! The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for, lively yet sophisticated. The wine list was nicely selected and the seafood paella I ordered was excellent! I also can't forget to mention the calamari appetizer which had a phenomenal sauce to accompany it. Another noteworthy feature was the ability to pay for the bill via barcode on the table. The service was attentive and fast which was great for us. They seem to all share the floor so we had multiple people taking care of us. The place itself is so beautiful. The bar is beautiful! I definitely want to come back just to have a drink at this bar. I wanted to order a lot off of the menu but I was in a hurry so I got the salmon bowl and wow! If I lived closed to here or worked in this area this would be my go to place for food. So fresh, so delicious and a perfect potion. Had a nice meal here with some friends. The restaurant has comfy booths and elegant decor. My friends and I decided to share a few plates. Our server was great at explaining the different options and we decided to go with the shishito peppers, parpadelle, fish, and chicken bites. My favourite was the parpadelle as it had foraged mushrooms, hazelnuts, porcini cream and yuzu brown butter. A lovely combination of flavours and textures. The other dish were quite tasty as well. I would like to show my gratitude to all the staff in Brass Fish Tavern. It was my company's new year event and we had the whole pub to ourselves. The dishes and drinks were excellent. It was a blast. However, my diamond had fallen off from my engagement ring that night and I was not aware until I got home. I returned to the pub the next day, 30 minutes before they opened in hope to find my missing carat. I wanted to thank-you the entire Saturday night-crew for their kindness, patience, helpfulness and saying encouraging words when I was roaming everywhere for that little sparkle. This pub has a lot of energy with the many people that go there. The decor is nice and tastefully done as is their food. I like the spin they do on many of their dishes. They take some common appys and entrees and add subtle Japanese spins on them, whether it be the cooking method or the ingredients that's used. It just works well. Unlike a few other pubs where happy hour is focussed more on drinks, BFT offers a good selection of popular dishes. New kid on the block. Beautiful interior in a beautiful building. Still in the early days of opening. Main host was on break so it took a while to be greeted. Once greeted, very friendly and timely service throughout our 2.5 hours, despite how busy it was during happy hour. With the lengthy happy hour, tables were turning over within good time. Of disappointment was the food. Happy hour consisted of sushi rolls for $5 and they were store-like. Not rolled properly and not especially flavourful. Off-menu, shishito peppers were actually flavourful but too many ingredients - best to keep it more simple. The fried chicken was spicy and crispy enough. Slightly confused by the entire menu offering as I initially thought the Japanese influence would be stronger but those elements were missing in both the food and drink menu. The overall vibe was great with a diverse crowd of tourists, business people and different ages. LOVE the DJ on Friday night - he was not only into his music but he did it well!
