Food was delicious! Atmosphere was fun--the place was full and rocking on a Friday night but it was not too loud at all. Husband loved his penne bolognese and I settled for the Cajun Crab & Spinach Dip with tortilla chips for my main course. It was all really delicious and tasted hot & fresh. Cocktails were good--I especially liked the Jalapeño Margarita. Our server was attentive and always appeared as soon as we needed anything. Tip: when we arrived we were offered the choice of dining room or outdoor patio and we chose indoors because it was a chillier evening. The patio was enclosed in an enormous canopy but we didn't want to chance it. However as were leaving we found plenty of happy diners outdoors on the patio; there were space heaters everywhere and it was quite warm and comfortable. We will select patio next time. Came here after work and ordered an additional side of the Avocado Kale Salad with crispy chickpeas along with the Cactus Burger aka The Feenie named after Chef Rob Feenie created that Smash Burger years ago when he was the Corporate Chef at The Cactus Club. Always spot on every time I order it. Not pictured was the salmon aburi which I returned after 3 bites as the outer edges of the rolls that I had were torched as part of the process of torching the salmon. Beautiful presentation but did not like it. Bartender Jonah had it removed from my bill after talking to the Manager. NA local beer of Noony IPA pictured in the can was quite tasty and one of the better NA IPAs that I've tried. Just got into town, checked into the Fairmont, and looking for a place to eat. The Cactus Club was just a couple blocks away. The menu selection and prices looks good. It's located right next to the convention center, with a view of the Calgary Olympic Torch Sculpture/Monument. There was a short wait, while they got our table ready. The restaurant is very large, with lots of seating in various places. You could eat inside, or in a couple of different patio areas. It was a little cool outside, so we got a table for 4. Got greeted right away, with waters, and menus. The drink menu has a large and varied selection of cocktails, beers, wines, and soft drinks. I got a Hugo Spritz, which was very refreshing (cucumber and fresh mint). The food menu was also large and covered lots of ground. Lots to like for a group with different palettes. I ordered the Szechuan Beans and the Tuna Poke Bowl. Other got the Hot Chicken, Rigatoni Bolognese, and the Truffle Chicken. It came out in a reasonable time, were the right temps, good flavor, and decent portions. Everyone was a happy camper. The service was good, but there were times when we needed help and no one was available. But not a deal breaker. The place holds a lot of people, and it was loud at times. Wait staff are friendly, bar tenders are warm and inviting. I ordered appetizer and entree, fried calamari came out with minimum amount of calamari, but cooked well and tasted fresh. This was a restaurant that was recommended by the front desk when we checked in the Hyatt Regency. We had never heard of this restaurant, but after spending 5 nights there, we realized that they had quite a few locations around the BC area. Anyway, I got the Steak Frites which I thought was actually very good and would definitely get again. My wife also got the same dish, but added a margarita, which was also very well made. They may try to serve you fast but you'll be waiting to get in and waiting for you food on a typical weekend just because of how packed they are. Cactus Club club is a chain restaurant that originated in Vancouver, though they now have 31 locations across Canada. I visited this location for a late night dinner. It was happening on a weekday evening! Moody lighting, tall ceilings, modern decor. I sat at the bar and got an espresso martini ("Midnight Hour" - $15.25) and a tofu bowl ($24.25). Prices are high as typical for Vancouver, but portion sizes were generous. They both tasted delicious. Staff was busy, so they were not the most attentive, but then again as a solo diner I was not the highest paying party. I'm not sure I'd be back now that I checked this off my tourist to-do list, but it seems like a fun place for a date night or girls night out. read more

Food is solid as per cactus standards. Service was really mediocre unfortunately. Our party came in after the BMO marathon, we were there pretty early, only 1 to 2 tables seated at the time. I'm always amazed at how slow the staff are at seating guests. There at least a crowd of 20, multiple groups, hanging at the host station not being seated. Once we got our table our server was attentive, active to get our order, we did feel a tad rushed to order but makes sense as 'attentiveness'. By the end of our meal we were legit rushed out, and the remaining few felt the same, I had literally finished my meal and within 3-5minutes my server wanted my plate back, and the restaurant wasn't even close to full. We all felt a bit awkward and cleaned up the tabs to leave. Not the greatest experience especially at the financial district location, huge turndown. Stopped by in a group of four for Happy Hour on a Friday and got seats on the patio...so a great start. The ambience and energy in the space and patio were excellent...especially being a Friday. I like that the Cactus Club has Happy Hour food and beverage options but they are not much cheaper than their regular menu items. We ordered several sharable plates. I enjoyed the presentation of the dishes but found most of the food quite bland and tasteless. The sushi had too much rice and not enough prawn...the chicken sliders were all bun with very little chicken. Not really great value for any of the dishes. I like that they have a hazy IPA on draught and that it was part of their Happy Hour. And the service was great, which upped this review to 4 stars. It was a positive experience. read more

I really dig the ambiance here as well as the wait staff, very friendly and attentive. At the table we had the calamari appetizer, two poke bowls, charted steak and red curry chicken. All dishes tasted great and cooked to order, wait time to receive was minimal. Would order these again!! Creme brûlée was not great, flavor of the creme was off... something about was not appealing. This restaurant is WAY above Vancouver's average. Surprisingly excellent service. Surprisingly excellent food. Surprisingly spotless tables, floors, and restrooms. Okay so this is going to sound super weird so bear with me. I wanted to try Cactus Club for the bathrooms. A mutual Armcherry, a Vancouver resident, suggested it after an Armchair Expert episode by Flightless Bird talking about toilets in America. Anywho. They had these super cool toilets with individual TV's at one location. Apparently NOT this one, or at least for men, since I forgot to use the restroom lol So we had already had dinner and just stopped in for a drink. The atmosphere is a loud bar type environment. Not intimate. But outside was definitely better than in for conversation. We also had super warm heaters above and the torch towers next to us. I was finally not cold outside lol. Our server was great, she was super attentive and kept our glasses full of water. I had a Mezcal Margarita and a spicy margarita, which were pretty good. And he had a Kyoto Fizz ( smirnoff vodka, sake, yuzu, white peach, chamomile, lime, soda and thyme) and a Tokyo Spritz (gekkeikan plum wine and sake, pineapple, yuzu, passion fruit, soda, cucumber, honeydew melon.) What a spot ! We had the opportunity to go at night which is a show stopping ambience. Immaculately clean with a great vibe and the food was phenomenal. Yesterday while walking around downtown Vancouver we decided to run for lunch on this beautiful afternoon. Szechuan lettuce wraps and some drinks were the move!! Stopped at the Coal Harbour location while walking around Vancouver as a tourist on a 5 day trip. Had no idea this was a Canadian chain until we attempted to make a reservation while standing in line waiting for a table. The line was long on a Saturday late morning and the sign stated "first come, first serve" unless you pre-reserved. We ended up waiting approx 25+ mins for our table. I don't mind waiting but it was annoying that the hostess seated two larger groups from the back of the line before seating our party of 3 or the people behind us. They actually pointed out the sign to another hostess and then we were seated. The dining space is massive - tables inside, multiple levels, 2 different outdoor areas, a bar area, and a huge open kitchen. The vibe is vibrant and lively - perfect for groups. The area we sat in had a nice view of the water and lots of light. Our server came over right away with waters then back to take an order for drinks. She was very attentive. I was super impressed with the amount of staff working at this place. It's no wonder they have efficient service. The menu offers a nice selection of food that'll suit all tastes including vegetarians (like me) and some lovely cocktails. The espresso martini and the whiskey sour were delightful. On the table was a chicken sandwich, a crispy tofu bowl which was really tasty and this awesome avocado kale salad that is one of the best salads I ever tasted! Seriously, my new fave - loved it so much that I went to another location a couple days later and got the same thing b/c I couldn't stop thinking about it. Every bite was like a party in my mouth with the textures and flavors - chopped kale dressed with a lemon garlic dressing, crispy chickpeas, pickled red cabbage, a fennel chili crumb, grana padano, and a lovely grilled avocado. Simply delicious. Also got a side of crispy tofu with a chili sauce which was prepared perfectly. Wish we had this chain in the United States. After wandering around downtown for awhile we stopped at Cactus Club Bentall 5 for dinner. We were seated on the patio which was covered and heated. Munchkin had her usual Mini Burgers, our friend ordered Mini Crispy Sandwiches and I had the Med Bowl.  Mini Burgers and Mini Crispy Sandwiches: It seems these two orders had been sitting around on a counter for awhile before they finally got served to us. Consequently the food had gotten cold and was not as enjoyable as they might normally have been. Med Bowl: This was my first time ordering this and I quite enjoyed it. It was colourful, had lots of different flavors in it, and while I've never really been a huge fan of falafel before, I think I'm starting to develop a greater appreciation for falafels now.
