I like all of the Earls locations except possibly the one in Orlando, Florida, but I think this one is my favorite because it's not just Earls. It's also the test kitchen where they develop new recipes. There's always something new here that isn't on the menu at the other Earls, and I find that most of them quickly become favorites that I hope will spread throughout the rest of the chain. On this visit, we were there for brunch, and I tried their new Nashville hot chicken and waffles. They were really good. The hot chicken wasn't overly spicy, but just enough to give it an extra zip that regular chicken and waffles didn't have. I also had a dessert that was kind of like bananas Foster cake. It was sort of a chocolate banana cake with caramelized banana slices on top and scoops of ice cream above that. Delicious. Service at Earls is always great, and the bonus of going for brunch is that they have 50% off on all sparkling wine by the bottle, which pretty much lowers it to retail pricing. read more

We had really good music and was easy to watch the game in an upscale place. It's not a quiet place. Our server was Taylor and she was. Excellent. We had a large group so there was a variety of food. We were travelling downtown and found this place online. So glad we tried it. Even with the city being so busy with the Eras Tour we were seated quickly and had friendly conversation with the manager and staff. We were checked on regularly and our food came out quickly. The concierge of my hotel recommended this restaurant, and it was a solid recommendation. I visited in the evening, and the ambiance was on point. There was light music playing in the background, the space was beautifully decorated, and the lighting was perfect. This would be a great date night spot! The food was out of this world! The spinach dip was full of flavor, and THAT BREAD!! Woah! I would go back just for that! It was fresh and soft! The Korean Bibimbap was also packed with flavor and a hint of spice that brought everything together. I had a regular cocktail and a mocktail, and both were solid. The one thing that really did it for me was the amazing potatoes! Super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Everything I tried today was off the test menu and from the food to the drinks it was all delicious. The Grape Crush Vodka Soda was great, and the Strawberry Smokeshow Margarita was to die for amazing. Potentially the best margarita I have ever had and would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys mezcal. My boyfriend and I also tried the Queen Bee Pizza. The waitress warned us that it would be spicy and we said that was okay. She was definitely correct. I am a big wuss when it comes to spicy so I may not be the best to give advice on this one, but definitely don't recommend to anyone who can't tolerate much spice. I've been to another Earls before, but had never visited their test kitchen. My partner and I decided to order one of the test items, the Roast Beef Sliders, and were not disappointed. The Truffle Fries were also delicious, especially paired with the aoli sauce. As far as service goes, it was good. We asked for a wine recommendation as neither of us drink wine and we were suggested a couple of the more expensive options. As I don't know about wine, it felt a bit to me that they were trying to upsell me wine rather than pair a good flavor, but I could be mistaken. In the end, we ended up ordering different drinks as they didn't actually have the wine they recommended. The restaurant itself looks great. The color scheme and seating arrangements are plentiful and spacious. While it may seem a bit cramped, it was not. Additionally while there is a bit of noise due to the restaurant being full, it wasn't too loud and my partner and I were able to talk in a normal volume. Its a bit in the pricier side for what is available, it won't necessarily break the bank. For both of us, with drinks and a soup, it was around $95 with a tip. This rating is representing the one experience I will speak of in the review following. I was there with a couple of my girlfriends for dinner. The space is vast with a casual/chic vibe and a nice bar in the middle. We started with a round of the raspberry margarita, which in my opinion, was not a margarita. It was more like a slushy. There was absolutely no taste or even trace of tequila....would've made a good virgin margarita, but that's not what I ordered. Appetizers were...spinach dip, calamari and truffle fries. Spinach dip: decent. Calamari: poor - proportion of squid to batter was 25-75 percent, at best, and the batter tasted like a cheap oil. You could barely taste any squid just like the margarita you could barely taste the tequila. Truffle fries: decent. For my dinner I ordered the short ribs with a side of caesar salad and a glass of red wine. In a hurried state of whizzing by, our server placed down a wet glass filled with what looked like red wine right in front of me, and before I could look up at her....she was gone. I looked at the wanna-be glass of wine and it was dripping. Since we couldn't manage to get our server's attention, I patted dry my glass of wine and took a little sip. Ok...one piece of free advice to management......red wine is always served room temperature..always. (unless it's a sangria) which is a whole different story. Also, you serve red wine, not only in a dry glass, but a clean and spotless one. The ribs were drenched in sweet bbq sauce. You couldn't even taste the ribs anymore, but just sweet, sweet, sweet bbq sauce. You might as well have just given me the bbq sauce bottle with a spoon and said bon appetit, and it was the same with the coleslaw on the side swimming in dressing. What was even worse was that the caesar salad was so old that the lettuce had turned yellow and the croutons were dissolving there was so much dressing. I didn't take pics simply because half the time I was trying to find our server and the other half I was trying to figure out what I was being served. Came here for dinner during Vancouver Dine Out. We were given the lunch menu that was priced at $35 and ordered off of that menu. When we got our bill, we were charged $45 per person (the dinner price). That was a mistake by the restaurant and the manager was not helpful not particularly polite. I think most restaurants would suck up the cost and charge the customer the price that they saw the menu, but she told us that there was nothing she can do to adjust the price (which is obviously total bullshit). Two of us ordered the tortellini, and she also told us that was only on the dinner menu. Turns out that's also total bullshit and that item is available for both lunch and dinner. Pretty terrible customer service. I myself ordered the Queen Bee pizza and that was mediocre at best. The texture of the crust is a bit stale, the flavor of the sauce is one-dimensional (salty), and there are barely any toppings. The lettuce wrap starter is actually decent, but the portion is really small and even at $35, I am not sure there is much value to the Dine Out menu. I ate at L'abattoir a few days before this and at $65, they offer much better value. Joey's and Cactus Club are so much better, and I'd recommend going to either one of those places over Earls. read more

I decided to go with the street chicken tacos because I was just looking for a snack. I got the jalapeno crema on the side and with the achiote chicken it sure packed a punch! The tacos were definitely on the small side but $6 for 3? I'd definitely get these again. Oracle decided to go with the cheddar chicken sandwich. She said it was very filling and decided to go with the salad on the side instead of the fries it originally came with. How can I come here and not be a fan? Happy hour probably has something to do with it. To delay my evening commute on the packed Sky Train, I visited the Hornby Earl's Test Kitchen. I think others had the same idea, because this place was packed. A lot of patrons had reservations and scooted their way in. But for those less organized, there was a wait for tables. Lucky for us, we managed to squeeze into one just before a 6:15 pm reservation. Honestly, one of the main (or only) reasons I come to Earl's venues are for the happy hour. This was no different. For two of us, we had glasses of wine, sangria and yam fries to nibble on all for under $25. That in my books, is a very frugal win. I really enjoyed the space. The high ceilings make this venue seem bigger and wide spread. I like the circular orientation with the focal point being the bar, with high tables surrounding it. I like the side leather round tables, they remind me of Don Draper days. He'd frequent the high-end version of Earl's. As for me, I'll stick to this one. And I'll come from 3 to 6 pm or 9 pm til close. read more

I ordered a bottle of Pellegrino and did not get it, in spite of being charged for it. Bad service, mediocre food, the order was wrong and I was overcharged for items I did not receive.
