Fun to try out some new menu items at this test kitchen. Tried the Salmon Gnochetti and really loved the baby gnocchi. Service was very friendly and place has a nice lively atmosphere. It's a pretty safe bet for a good quality dinner if you don't feel like being too adventurous. read more

The concierge of my hotel recommended this restaurant, and it was a solid recommendation. I visited in the evening, and the ambiance was on point. There was light music playing in the background, the space was beautifully decorated, and the lighting was perfect. This would be a great date night spot! The food was out of this world! The spinach dip was full of flavor, and THAT BREAD!! Woah! I would go back just for that! It was fresh and soft! The Korean Bibimbap was also packed with flavor and a hint of spice that brought everything together. I had a regular cocktail and a mocktail, and both were solid. Great location with friendly staff! Our server was super friendly and gave us great recommendations. We had a little feedback to give to the kitchen about one of the dishes, and the manager came out and took care of it promptly. The Queen Bee pizza was a surprise hit! Truffle fries were amazing, and we almost ordered a second one! The beef carpaccio was pretty delicious, too. What incredible service, ambiance with great music, and the food was so delicious! We all ordered the eggs Benedict with medium done eggs and it came out delicious. The one thing that really did it for me was the amazing potatoes! Super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Price/quality (2/4): I've been here a number of times, and the quality can vary greatly between dishes. While each individual dish is fairly consistent, not all are good. For example, the crab cakes are pretty much what crab cakes should taste like, while the biryani is a curry and nothing like what biryani should be. Also, the sardines are a ripoff. Everything I tried today was off the test menu and from the food to the drinks it was all delicious. The Grape Crush Vodka Soda was great, and the Strawberry Smokeshow Margarita was to die for amazing. Potentially the best margarita I have ever had and would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys mezcal. My boyfriend and I also tried the Queen Bee Pizza. The waitress warned us that it would be spicy and we said that was okay. She was definitely correct. I am a big wuss when it comes to spicy so I may not be the best to give advice on this one, but definitely don't recommend to anyone who can't tolerate much spice. Besides the spice it had amazing flavors and exciting combinations of ingredients. The vibe of the restaurant is also great and modern. I've been to another Earls before, but had never visited their test kitchen. My partner and I decided to order one of the test items, the Roast Beef Sliders, and were not disappointed. The Truffle Fries were also delicious, especially paired with the aoli sauce. As far as service goes, it was good. We asked for a wine recommendation as neither of us drink wine and we were suggested a couple of the more expensive options. As I don't know about wine, it felt a bit to me that they were trying to upsell me wine rather than pair a good flavor, but I could be mistaken. In the end, we ended up ordering different drinks as they didn't actually have the wine they recommended. The restaurant itself looks great. The color scheme and seating arrangements are plentiful and spacious. While it may seem a bit cramped, it was not. Additionally while there is a bit of noise due to the restaurant being full, it wasn't too loud and my partner and I were able to talk in a normal volume. Its a bit in the pricier side for what is available, it won't necessarily break the bank. For both of us, with drinks and a soup, it was around $95 with a tip. This rating is representing the one experience I will speak of in the review following. I was there with a couple of my girlfriends for dinner. The space is vast with a casual/chic vibe and a nice bar in the middle. We started with a round of the raspberry margarita, which in my opinion, was not a margarita. It was more like a slushy. There was absolutely no taste or even trace of tequila....would've made a good virgin margarita, but that's not what I ordered. Appetizers were...spinach dip, calamari and truffle fries. Spinach dip: decent. Calamari: poor - proportion of squid to batter was 25-75 percent, at best, and the batter tasted like a cheap oil. You could barely taste any squid just like the margarita you could barely taste the tequila. Truffle fries: decent. For my dinner I ordered the short ribs with a side of caesar salad and a glass of red wine. In a hurried state of whizzing by, our server placed down a wet glass filled with what looked like red wine right in front of me, and before I could look up at her....she was gone. I looked at the wanna-be glass of wine and it was dripping. Since we couldn't manage to get our server's attention, I patted dry my glass of wine and took a little sip. Ok...one piece of free advice to management......red wine is always served room temperature..always. (unless it's a sangria) which is a whole different story. Also, you serve red wine, not only in a dry glass, but a clean and spotless one. The ribs were drenched in sweet bbq sauce. You couldn't even taste the ribs anymore, but just sweet, sweet, sweet bbq sauce. You might as well have just given me the bbq sauce bottle with a spoon and said bon appetit, and it was the same with the coleslaw on the side swimming in dressing. What was even worse was that the caesar salad was so old that the lettuce had turned yellow and the croutons were dissolving there was so much dressing. I didn't take pics simply because half the time I was trying to find our server and the other half I was trying to figure out what I was being served. Came here for dinner during Vancouver Dine Out. We were given the lunch menu that was priced at $35 and ordered off of that menu. When we got our bill, we were charged $45 per person (the dinner price). That was a mistake by the restaurant and the manager was not helpful not particularly polite. I think most restaurants would suck up the cost and charge the customer the price that they saw the menu, but she told us that there was nothing she can do to adjust the price (which is obviously total bullshit). Two of us ordered the tortellini, and she also told us that was only on the dinner menu. Turns out that's also total bullshit and that item is available for both lunch and dinner. Pretty terrible customer service. I myself ordered the Queen Bee pizza and that was mediocre at best. The texture of the crust is a bit stale, the flavor of the sauce is one-dimensional (salty), and there are barely any toppings. The lettuce wrap starter is actually decent, but the portion is really small and even at $35, I am not sure there is much value to the Dine Out menu. I ate at L'abattoir a few days before this and at $65, they offer much better value. Joey's and Cactus Club are so much better, and I'd recommend going to either one of those places over Earls. read more

It was Wednesday evening. I went there after work. Meeting a friend for happy hour. The reception said there's a 10 minute wait. No problem. Got seated but it wasn't busy. So I don't know why there's a wait. There were only 2 other tables with fours. Anyhow no happy hour menu. No one to ask us for drinks. No water. I was really thirsty and hungry. There was a waitress but she ignored us. We waited 10 more minutes and got up and walked out. Will give this location a break. Won't come back for 6 months. Out of 10 visits we only had one exceptional service. Come on. Eating out is expensive. Please treat us with great service and kindness. I decided to go with the street chicken tacos because I was just looking for a snack. I got the jalapeno crema on the side and with the achiote chicken it sure packed a punch! The tacos were definitely on the small side but $6 for 3? I'd definitely get these again. Oracle decided to go with the cheddar chicken sandwich. She said it was very filling and decided to go with the salad on the side instead of the fries it originally came with. Horrendous all around pick up experience. Service: An outrageously long wait on an order that I was told was ready. No one was present at the front desk for a good 15 minutes. When someone did arrive it took another 10 min to get my order. Food: The linguini was cold as was the Alfredo sauce and chicken which was over cooked and dry. I ordered a bottle of Pellegrino and did not get it, in spite of being charged for it. Bad service, mediocre food, the order was wrong and I was overcharged for items I did not receive. It took a long time because there were loads of people there and it came after about 30-40 minutes. I took a bite out of the steak, and it was alright it didn't taste authentic. This is a pretty alright place, and I tried the fries; they were shaped like Mcdonald's fries, and they tasted suspicious. The steak had no flavour, no taste. It tasted like a steak that a roommate used to cook in college. I asked the waitress for the menu again. The place was big, clean, and friendly. Aesthetic looking, and I like the vibe is very friendly & is easily one of the best-designed places. It had those colours, and the look impressed me. It was so clean, and not a single spot was dirty with the lights and the TVs. And I ordered myself an impossible burger which is a vegan option. When it came, it was juicy. It was much better than the steak, and it had that flavour in it. The ingredients tasted freshly made. Those chopped-up tomatoes & lettuce were particular. They were clean, fresh, & authentic! Just order the impossible burger there. It's better than the steak and is made new. It impressed me with how juicy and good it was. The flavours came all together and formed a wave that sparked my tastebuds. It was a meal that was worth chewing. I was definitely wrong about this place its a hit or miss. How can I come here and not be a fan? Happy hour probably has something to do with it. To delay my evening commute on the packed Sky Train, I visited the Hornby Earl's Test Kitchen. I think others had the same idea, because this place was packed. A lot of patrons had reservations and scooted their way in. But for those less organized, there was a wait for tables. Lucky for us, we managed to squeeze into one just before a 6:15 pm reservation. Honestly, one of the main (or only) reasons I come to Earl's venues are for the happy hour. This was no different. For two of us, we had glasses of wine, sangria and yam fries to nibble on all for under $25. That in my books, is a very frugal win. I really enjoyed the space. The high ceilings make this venue seem bigger and wide spread. I like the circular orientation with the focal point being the bar, with high tables surrounding it. I like the side leather round tables, they remind me of Don Draper days. He'd frequent the high-end version of Earl's. As for me, I'll stick to this one. And I'll come from 3 to 6 pm or 9 pm til close. read more

But about service, a bit disappointing. First, she shows us a table right beside the washroom, we politely asked her to give us another one as we pass through the restaurant, we saw several empty ones without "do not set" signs for covid restriction. she rolled her eyes and left to check after five minutes came back and just show us the table by her hand not a single word! We were recommended this place by our hotel. While they did have something for everyone the food was mediocre. The drinks we're actually delicious. I had the seasonal watermelon beer and my date had a dry Apple cider that was delicious. The best thing we had was the vegan sushi tacos. They were freshly and crunchy and very good. My shroomi power bowl fell short and so did his $60 rib eye. This place had a cool vibe a great potential just didn't deliver. For the $160 price tag we a little disappointed. read more

A couple weeks ago while in Vancouver we stopped in at Earl's Kitchen and bar. The restaurant was located a block away from the hotel we were staying at and looked like a nice place to have lunch. The space is beautiful with 40 foot ceilings and huge comfortable booths. There were Tv's with American college and Canadian football being broadcast. I think this is a chain restaurant since a saw another location in a different part of town. The menu is a hodgepodge of different cuisine item from burgers to pastas to nachos. We ordered the blacken salmon which was served with rice and veggies. The salmon was excellent the rice and veggies not so much. Along with the salmon we had the soup and salad which we choose the clam chowder and the Cesars salad. The clam chowder was good and the salad was huge but basic. Service was excellent. Our young server noticed my cough and suggested an herbal smoothie at a place down the street. Although I didn't follow through with the smoothie but it was nice of her to suggest. read more
