We love this Earl's on Hornby. This has the test kitchen so they always have something different on offer. The last time we went, it was pretty busy but we didn't mind sitting at the bar so we were served pretty quickly. The bar is always a great place to sit, the bartenders are friendly and very helpful. We got our food pretty quickly. The truffle ravioli was outstanding. This Ear's is our go to when we are in downtown Vancouver. read more

Great place to have a drink and catch up with friends. Parking here is absolutely horrendous. Best to come by after 2200. This location is home of the Earls test kitchen, so there are "prototype" dishes available that are only available here. The interior is quite classy. The interior is split into 3 sections: the main (bar) 1F area which is more of a loft, a 1F kitchen area (not as nice but more like a conventional restaurant), and a 2F mezzanine. Strangely enough, this is where the washrooms are located. There's a wheelchair lift attached to the stairs to get up here, but it must be a hassle to use. Looks like their Albino Rhino beer is no more. It is now called Rhino Ale. Someone complained, go figure. Fortunately it's still the same beer as before. The glasses now have a new rhino logo as a result as well. As expected, staff were professional and kept us topped up. No complaints there. While I didn't eat here this last time, I've had the food before and it's decent and consistent with the other locations. Similar type and quality of food to Cactus Club and Joey's. I just want to preface this by saying I've never had any lunch/dinner at this location- this review is strictly based on my brunch experience. This is my favorite brunch I've ever eaten. Every brunch I have I compare to this. I'll start with the drink; didn't taste alcoholic at all. It was some sort of coffee with alcohol in it and it was so yummy. But the main thing I want to talk about is the eggs benedict. As you can see from the second photo, they weren't cooked perfectly. The yolks were a little hard, which I was irritated about. However, the taste was so amazing I can't even take a star off for it. The hollandaise sauce was to die for; I think I would order 3 more sides next time I go. The toast that the eggs come on it just so perfect. And the potatoes are of course amazing. Perfectly crispy, well seasoned, and just overall really yummy. I will one million perfect visit Earls for brunch any chance I get whenever I go back to Canada. I hope they cook my eggs better next time, but like I said that's the single gripe I have. Lemme tell ya, I know Earls Kitchen + Bar is a chain primarily in Canada but it's nowhere NEAR where we live, so thought we'd give it a go. And I have to say - both my husband and I loooooved this restaurant! It was one of the best lunches we had while on our Vancouver vacation. We started off with the Hawaiian Coconut Prawns, which were cooked very well - firm and juicy. The curry-like aioli needed a touch of sweet though, like mango or pineapple, but overall this was delicious! My entrée was the Yucatan Chicken Tacos on corn tortillas (gluten free version), and they were AWESOME. Filled to the brim, messy to eat, but the chicken had a wonderful slow cooked flavor and the pickled onions were an excellent contrast. Served with garlic fries, how could you go wrong? YOU CAN'T. Hubby chose the BBQ Ribs and they were fall off the bone excellent with the perfect amount of sauciness. Served with potato salad, of which I stole a bite. We both agree this might be the best potato salad we've ever had - fried potatoes tossed with corn, bacon and onion with a not-over-the-top creamy dressing. Divine! Dessert was a Sticky Toffee Chocolate Pudding - and it was soooo much better than the previous night's version! It's a huge cake covered in chocolate and toffee sauce and melty ice cream. Super indulgent! The ginger crisp was a bit too chewy and not a lot of flavor; however, dessert as a whole was FAB. We loved our meal - it's an excellent spot for lunch! Long story short, food was AMAZING, but service really spoiled it. Was coming here with a group of friends to celebrate one of my buddy's birthday. We were seated promptly enough and the waitress brought us water, but afterwards, it took nearly half an hour to flag her down again to order...which was CRAZY since the restaurant couldn't be more than half full. Once we finally managed to place an order and get our food though, things seemed to be taking an upswing. The Steak Frites (22.50) was delicious. The steak had a great crispy sear on the outside and great marbling on the inside. It was beautifully seasoned, juicy, and overall, a very well cooked steak. It was served buttered on a crispy, yet soft, slice of foccacia bread. The fries were also quite plentiful, crispy, and lightly salted. After we finished our delicious meals, we were hoping to flag down the waitress again and be on our merry way, but for some reason there weren't ANY servers around. It took nearly 40 minutes before we managed to flag one down (our original one) to pay. It's too bad, the food was terrific...if only the service was on par with it. read more

first time trying this location near the courthouse.... ive tried and been happy with several earls location, but unfortunately, this location fell short of expectations... was in the area and popped in for lunch with my old boss... i ordered the blackened fish tacos with a side of soup ( clam chowder). presentation was nice but food quality fell short. the blackened fish was done perfectly for visuals...but the taste was a let down. the flavours werent there. the fish was dry and overcooked! not seasoned well too. no creole flavours for sure. the salsa tasted fresh and good, as well as the sauce. the fish was not fresh as well. frozen variety, no flakes no juices nothing. it was as if you were eating a fish stick from a box!! the worse dish was the clam chowder! the broth was good. not to think, but had proper consistency of chowder. the clams, vegs, and whatever else that was placed in there was a total disaster. they were thrown into the soup and not even simmered long enough to tenderize the clams. . the clam pieces were so chewy they tasted disgusting. even the cubed potatoes were still hard....again, nice to look at but not good to eat! only other good part to the experience was the service. servers very attentive. surroundings clean. food came quick and our needs taken care off. other than that, wont be ordering this dish ever again. it was a total turn off. even a taco truck could produce better fare or a soup kitchen can serve a proper chowder. these 2 were a total failure for this earls location. happy eating!! read more

We went here twice while we were in Vancouver. The first time we sat at the bar and just had small bites and cocktails. We enjoyed ourselves because the bartenders (male and female) were friendly and we enjoyed chatting them up. It's hard to overlook how everyone who works at Earl's is good looking. The second time we patronized this location was because we wanted to watch three sporting events which were airing simultaneously and we knew Earl's would be playing them all. We also wanted to watch these games while enjoying food that might be slightly better than pub fare. Since it happened to be Sunday I went with the $25 Sunday night supper deal which got me a Cesar Salad, A 7 oz. Steak with two sides and pumpkin pie which I washed down with pints of local beer for $3.99. They also had other various drink specials. Sometimes a girl wants to watch sports and drink beer but not have to munch on nachos or other bar food. For days like that Earl's is a great compromise. read more

Always noticed this area while walking around downtown and this location seemed to have a great ambience for date night/ happy hour. Also perfect spot for a dinner after a movie night. First off we ordered drinks and it came fast. My pal got coke and I got Passion Fruit Limeade($5) and my drink was so good even approved by G. Then I got 1/2 Rack of BBQ Ribs ($22.50) and G got Fettuccine Alfredo($23.50 after adding prawns and chicken $10.50 extra). Our food was good too. My BBQ ribs were tender and delish. We wandered past Earls during a quick trip to Vancouver and were not disappointed. With no reservation, the staff were very obliging to arrange a table. I went to this Earls two days in a row for after work drinks and it has such an amazing atmosphere and great service. Earls is one of those staple restaurants that you go to for social reasons and where very little planning is involved. It has standard fare that caters to a slew of different tastes. There are some very reasonably priced drinks and appetizers that make it so easy to share and catch up with friends. It's also very easy to forget how much you're ordering... we started off with some $3.50 rhino draught beers, the appetizer street tacos, and garlic fries, and ending up ordering more beer and pizza afterward. Everything tasted great. My friend couldn't quite handle the spice in the tacos (even without adding the extra hot sauce) but I absolutely loved them. Easy to eat with a lot of flavour. This location is actually the Earls test kitchen as well so it's really cool to be able to try new items that haven't been rolled out to the other restaurants. There is plenty of seating available. We went just before 6pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and didn't need a reservation but it might be a good idea with bigger parties and later in the evening. I will definitely be coming again. read more

Went there Wednesday for dinner - a party of 9 people. It was late and they had a special after 9 PM happy hour menu but the prices were still pricey. The food actually tested okay but the presentation was a meh! The $8 Leroy's Crispy Ribs were totally worthless as there was hardly any meat on the bones. Thus we had to order two $4 pizzas for the kids. Steak + Sushi at $24 ($2.50 discount from the regular menu price) offered a very small portion. My wife had the $12 Dim Sum which was good. The $13 burgers and fries were okay. My cousin ordered the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo and got some other table's food. When he finally got his food, the dish was so dry that it was inedible and sent it back only to get a piece of garlic bread 10 minutes later. The atmosphere is loud and so is the music and the crowd seems to be on the wild side - not a palace to have an intimate conversation. I made the mistake of coming here without checking yelp... Stumbled upon Earls with the bf because most places were closing and we wanted a late night dinner. The place was crowded and seemed like it was a good crowd, so we thought it would be good - I mean, after all why would it be so crowded unless it was good? Ended up getting seated quickly and I ordered the sushi + steak (weird combo I know) and bf got the chicken huanin (?) noodles. = SERVICE = Our server was seriously one of the worst servers I've ever had, it wasn't even that busy but yet she was ignoring us the whole night. We had three people fill our waters and some food runners who served our meal... = FOOD = The sushi was god awful, but probably should have known that and it was my fault for ordering it. The combo came with a dynamite roll... it looked dinky and sad. The steak, however, was DELICIOUS. Basically what saved Earls from getting a 2 star review. The sauce it came in was so flavorful and the steak was so soft. Chicken huanin - wasn't too bad but wasn't the best ether. Chicken was a bit over cooked. Earls is right downstairs in my building. I have both dined in, as well as picked up from this location many times. Dine in - this location always seems to be rather busy. I have never had to wait for a table, always room in the lounge. Service is pretty good. Food is almost always decent. Not highly outstanding but not bad. Good cocktails, usually a highly special on something. Seasonal drinks are awesome ! Phone in to pick up - I'm pretty high maintenance, so I understand a screw up once in a while, but more often then not- they don't get it right. However, if you do call back and complain, they will make things right. Some of my favorites -soup, salad & pan bread ( clam chowder ! ) -dry ribs -California pizza -bacon cheddar burger ( no oinions, no mayo, no tomato, cheese on the side ) I would say 3.5 stars, but since there are no half stars I'm gonna be generous, and bump it up a notch to 4. read more

I stumbled upon this location after passing it going to the local Fed-Ex store which was one of the few locations that accepts "biological" food products being sent to the United States. Gotta love the Bio-terrorism Act of 2002 which precipitated all sorts of rules and regulations in Canada even if what I was sending was a sample of seafood the size of a quarter to test for species identification. None the less that is a whole another story. At any rate, I yelped Earl's and learned that this particular location has their test kitchen which if new items make the cut are then served at their other locations. With that being said and seeing four solid stars by yelpsters, I decided to give the play a try. Since it was after the lunch rush, I sat at a high top near the bar and soon discovered that Earl's is run under the same management company as Cactus Club and Joey chain which I had previously been to in past trips to YVR. I was not that hungry but wanted something light to tide me over for dinner, I ordered the Clam Chowder with Canadian bacon bits, Caesar salad with a chunk of rosemary bread. Everything was spot on and service was excellent. In my opinion, Earl's closely resembles the Joey Bentall location that I visited previously located on the same street as the Hyatt Regency with the Cactus Club Coal Harbor a little bit more casual and perhaps a slightly larger choice of entrees. In the end, I would come back to this particular location as it is their "test kitchen" and during my dining experience, a server came to each table with samples of cookies that were being tested for perhaps a future roll-out. read more

The food is really nothing to rave about - but it's decent eats. One really comes here for the lively atmosphere and friendly service. I enjoy the large open seating area which despite being packed on weekends, it's never really "got to scream across the table" loud. They also offer 60 oz growlers as drink options - though you can share with a few friends, my buddy and I decided to get one each for ourselves. They are open late night and is walking distance to other local bars and clubs. So overall a good place to stop by for quick bites and a pregame before heading out for a night out read more

Came here for Father's Day with the family for lunch. The lure for my wife and me was their plant-based menu, which offers 6-7 vegan mains. I ordered the vegan quinoa and avocado power bowl, a nice, fairly healthy bowl full of greens, quinoa, quinoa, roasted squash, roasted beets, and crisp chickpeas. My wife ordered the vegan hunan kung pao, a long-time Earl's staple turned vegan. Both were tasty but unexceptional. Good place to please vegans and nonvegans alike, but I can't exactly say it's a destination spot food-wise, at least for vegan food--though I definitely appreciate their plant-based menu. A little pricey for what you get, but you're paying more for the atmosphere and general character of the place. Top-quality service and a very pleasant environment. Menu: The menu sometime changes at Earl's Test Kitchen. We ordered the Cajan Roasted Salmon and the Jerk Chicken. The Cajan seasonings were mainly salty...it could have had more flavor. The jerk chicken was better than I expected. The jerk sauce was flavorful without being too hot. Check their menu for daily specials which include 1/2 price bottle of wine. Venue: Very close to Robson Square. Centrally located. There are two areas in the restaurant that offer a quieter dining experience or a lively pub feel. Had a pleasant experience with the waiter until he brought our food and didn't check in after that. Not once. It was a busy Friday but I'm not sure why he couldn't manage to stop by the table. We would have had more drinks and dessert but we decided we'd go spend our money elsewhere. We ordered their Turkey Meal to go in advance. They still required us to wait for half an hour when we arrived, and they did not provide utensils. The turkey and the mashed potatoes were salty and crumbled (not mashed) and the brussel sprouts were tasteless. They gave us a lot of mashed potatoes and not much brussel sprouts. The gravy was watery and salty in which you could not tell whether it was turkey, beef, or mushroom gravy. Moreover, their bread pudding was actually a foccasia bread pudding with white onions. It was misleading that they named it bread pudding. Also, their gingerbread cake was actually a molasses cake with a hint of spice; it was very sweet and you could not taste the ginger. The three toppings for the gingerbread cake were unnecessary: gingerbread cookie crumbs, apple cubes, and salted caramel which just tasted like regular caramel. The service and the food was disappointing. For the same price and the same food, Cactus Club is better. read more

This Earls location is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Vancouver. The decor and interior design breathe an air of upscale-ness. This is also the home to their test kitchen, which provides new dishes that the franchise hopes to try out in the future. We came here as large group and they were able to accomodate us. To start, I got the whiskey sour, which was made with egg white. The drink was made to standard, nothing out of the ordinary. For the main, I got the 8oz steak with a side pf vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked to my request. The carrots and mashed potatoes were okay too. However, at the end of the meal, our server took around 20 minutes to get our bills. The server then messed up the bill and had to re-print everyone's bills again. This whole ordeal was frustrating and delayed our schedule for the night. I hope that this is an one-off incident at this location and not reflective of the entire chain. read more

Came here for a chat after a big dinner. Even though test kitchen menu looked good, our party of 3 were simply too full so decided to pass and just get some drinks. I got a couple of ginger lemon lime mocktails and they were truly refreshing. I had a slight throat irritation so really enjoyed this drink full of citrus and ginger. The interior was very inviting. It was spacious and beautifully decorated with a clean, modern look. Our waitress was really warm and friendly so that added a nice touch. My husband and I always stop here when we visit Vancouver. We came on Valentine's Day - which funnily enough we never go out to eat on V-day, but there we were. We were late to our reservation, but they still fit us in. Service was perfect, our waitress was super friendly and efficient. We were heading to a concert, so didn't have extra time. The food was delicious. My husband got steak and lobster and I had the butter chicken. OMG the butter chicken with basmati rice and naan is to die for good. The gravy is straight from a can/mix and really thick in not a good way. Pizza was burnt. My Cajun chicken sandwich was burnt too basically just extra crispy skin with a shitload of slaw on top. Not good. Fries cold but they were decent at least. Wing we're fine I guess on the small side definitely not worth the price.
