Who knows what fillers and other preservatives is in the pre-prepared food of Ikea. Is Ikea edible? Yes. Will it Kill you? Unlikely. LA Grill is the latter, discount dining. Ironic that its next to a discount grocery chain, FreshCo in the same strip mall. If you want an addition to discount eating, there's also the Arches in the strip mall complex. There's also the option of fighting with the bottle collectors for some couch change at the Return-it Recycling depot a stone's throw away. DDDD, dumpster diving discount dining at its best. Derision aside, LA Grill is quite decent for what it is. It's not fancy, nor is it gourmet. The menu is not extensive, let alone exhaustive. Very simple with options for everyone's palate. Went for a late 830ish dinner since we were in Richmond. Was pretty busy at this hour and when we went in there were 2 servers but the younger must have been just finishing cuz the senior staff member was alone taking orders, requests, clearing tables etc.. and let me tell you she was doing a fabulous job considering how many tables there were and she was by herself. We ordered calamari for appy, I got chicken souvlaki and wife got the blackened salmon. The calamari was done almost perfectly. Nice portion, tender meat, the tzatziki sauce was acceptable. I personally would like a bit more flavor but I've actually had worse at specifically greek restaurants. The chicken souvlaki skewer was seasoned well, and moist/ tender. Rice pilaf lacks a bit of flavour but was cooked well. Eaten together with the chicken brought harmony to the lacking rice. The accompanying pita was warm and soft wifi was delightful. Caesar salad was dressed perfectly with every leaf dressed. A bit of cheese would have elevated the salad a bit more. Otherwise a solid meal. Wife's salmon although cooked perfectly was technically not blackened. But was super tender and moist. Salad she said was just kinda sprinkled with balsamic dressing. I had the garlic prawns which came with rice, garlic toast and potatoes. It was pretty yummy. The $15 deal I had came with clam chowder and caesar salad too. Pretty filling. Service was good too, with the server coming by to top up water without being asked. Decent Western style restaurant in the strip mall at Blundell and No.2. Parking is plentiful in the lot surrounding the building. The interior is modern but rather dim. The seating area is unique in that it is shaped like a H, with the washrooms in the middle. There is at TV screen as well. Staff are friendly. No complaints. The menu looks suspiciously like that of X-site in Vancouver/Burnaby, but rumour has it this restaurant/chain came from them originally. My friends and I each had the $15 (coupon) combo. I had the garlic prawns (11 total). The main is served with Greek rice, mini potatoes, garlic bread, and a slice of lemon. Included sides are a bowl of clam chowder and a salad. The food overall is pretty decent quality. Prawns seemed reasonably fresh. Tried some of my buddy's steak and it seemed decent as well. Chowder was pretty good. Salad was decent but nothing special. Through the grapevine staff from either of the two X-Site Grill locations in Vancouver and Burnaby branched off to start this establishment. Their identical menu and daily specials are a dead giveaway to support the rumor. Our party decided to give them a try with a $15 per person coupon which included Clam Chowder & Caesar Salad with your choice of entrée New York Steak, Garlic Prawns, Grilled Salmon, or Chicken Souvlaki. The clam chowder was good, creamy with a variety of seafood ingredients. Caesar salad came next and it was no better or worse from what you expect from other restaurants, but I have to say the portions were small. I ordered the New York Steak and it was decently cooked to a medium rare, served with brown rice, garlic bread, and potato wedges. The place is uniquely shaped like a "H" with bathrooms in the middle separating two seating areas. The décor is modern but a little dim on the eyes. Staff were young, friendly, and efficient. I LOVE THIS PLACE!! Originally came here to meet some friends on their suggestion, and as we were waiting for them, I was astonished by the menu prices! Truly unbeatable especially in 2023. We went on a weekend afternoon, around 3pm. The service was quick and attentative, our server was very nice and made sure we had all we needed multiple times. It wasn't too busy so our food came out pretty fast. We also went again on a Wednesday night and although it was busier, food still came out in a timely manner. Ambiance is great, just a cute quaint little local place. Cocktails were strong!! Got the tequila sunrise and it was great, no complaints. I got the Mozzarella Burger with Caesar salad ~ $15, great portions!! The burger itself is not a huge one, but coupled with the salad and the potatoes, I was STUFFED. Taste wise, I think I noticed some kind of after taste with the mozzarella, not sure what it was but it wasn't anything gross, just wasn't used to it. Not sure if it's the particular kind of cheese they use but it was still really good and didn't detract from the meal! I believe its the cheese because I got the chicken pesto another time and noticed the exact same taste (it has mozzarella on top). Their Caesar salad IS THE BEST. You can get their LA burger (which is STACKED) for only $5.99. I usually add an avocado on top to elevate it to the next level. My other go-to orders are the garlic prawns and the zucchini sticks. The clam chowder soup had lots of ingredients, and came with a side of crispy garlic bread. The taste was pretty good, quite possibly better than some other ones I've had at fine dining restaurants. The burgers each arrived with lots of salad & a side of potatoes. To be honest, the taste of the burgers was comparable to those $10+ burgers from chain restaurants such as Red Robin or White Spot. I love this place so much. here are the reasons why. 1. it's so cheap! you can get a burger, salad, and potato wedges for under $10! if you go at a certain hour it's sometimes $5! this is basically as cheap as mcdonald's. 2. the staff are sooo nice. once, i left my airpods there, and i later called and they were so nice about it. i also had an experience where one of the lemon wedges in my water had mold. it was barely noticeable. Neither of us could finish the gigantic bowl and requested for our salads shortly. We shared the new york steak and salmon, and I actually preferred the salmon while my friend preferred the steak. The garlic shrimp were cooked very well and were quite flavourful. They went really well with the rice and I managed to finish ALL the carbs somehow... (toasted garlic bread, a heaping of rice, a roasted potato) Anyways, the Groupon was a really good deal and I've eaten here before for their specials and they were pretty affordable and well priced as well. Came here after an evening gym session with a buddy. I had previously been to the LA Grill on Oak and King Ed for a Groupon deal but had a pretty bad experience so my expectations were not high. This location in Richmond has lots of parking and we were seated fairly quickly. The menu is in comic sans which is an interesting choice but right off the bat it's clear that there's some good deals on beer and daily dinner specials. However if you work in the neighbourhood, their $5.95 lunch specials are very attractive. We got the chicken strips as a starter, they were served piping hot with some honey mustard dipping sauce. Overall they are okay but they seem like they might have been frozen. It's a very thin breading compared to other chicken strips, not bad for around $5 but the portion is pretty average. For the entree, I ordered the LA Burger which has bacon, cheddar, and mushrooms on it. A classic pairing and for just $9, a pretty good burger. The side salad that comes with it is just slapped together with no dressing so the $1 upgrade to a Caesar salad might be worth it. It comes with roasted potatoes with no option for fries or any other substitute. In my opinion this is a missed opportunity as fries/yam fries would pair nicely with a lot of their menu items. Perhaps they don't have the equipment to do fries. They also had a good beer special for just $4.50 a pint although I just went with a regular iced tea. I was disappointed to find out that the $2.50 iced tea did not include free refills. While overall the menu seems like it offers good value, their soft drinks should really be priced better. Overall I would say it was a 3.5 experience factoring in the food, service, and value. The fact that LA Grill is reasonably priced and open late definitely help. Worst experience I've had in a restaurant. We were seated at a table near the back and waited at least 25 minutes for anyone to notice us. The restaurant was not even remotely busy. No one at our table had any menus or water. Our steaks were cold and tasteless when they arrived. After we told our waitress that our food was cold, she reacted in a very snobby manner. Minutes later, she came back with our food warmed... CLEARLY our plates had just been popped into the microwave and served back to us. Came here the other day with my dad on a Saturday afternoon for a quick lunch since he said it was his favourite place. They have a pretty affordable lunch special from Monday's to Friday's it seems if you order with a drink. But since I went in the Saturday it was regular price I ordered the New England chowder with garlic bread, a fettuccine Alfredo with garlic bread,and a pint of the sapporo. The chowder was a solid 10/10 for the portion sizing, price and the flavour! It was a very hearty soup for about $5 so it was definitely worth it. The Fettuccine Alfredo was also really good as well. Compared to other places I've a simple dish like this, personally I felt that LA Grill does it better than most places haha! It definitely doesn't taste or feel as greasy as most fettuccine Alfredo dishes taste and I enjoyed whatever cheese was on top as well. They have a fairly decently large menu so you're bound to find at least one thing you'd like. And they also have a pretty good variety of alcohol bailable as well! The stemware was dirty. Blatant lipstick on one of the martini glasses and not the right shade of the person drinking it! I do question what they are using for "lime juice" as it seemed more like "lime flavouring" I asked if the Salmon was farmed and the answer I got was a, "I believe it is yes." Our waitress seemed eager to please and that is the answer she thought I wanted. I would double check on the Salmon before concluding it is farmed or not. Not only it's close to my house but it's also a good alternative to drive thru food. If you are on a budget, you will definitely love this place. Price range $6-$12. The server was nice despite my dysfunctional and inappropriate family giving her a run for her money. I would have LOVED to have the option of fries with my burger but since this is a wannabe Greek restaurant you get a moderately cooked potato and some dirty tasting salad with only balsamic dressing.
