I had a two day meeting in Richmond. We got catered food sent to the office. First day, we had sandwiches. I had the roast beef sandwich. Wow that was very tasty. It had some thing crispy in it which made it extra delicious. The sandwiches were made fresh on the day. We also had some desserts with it. I had a brownie. That was a nice treat. On day two, we had wraps. I got the jerk chicken wrap and chicken pesto wrap. Both were very tasty. Again, they were both freshly made on the day. For desserts, we had cookies. A rare, out of the way jewel in Richmond, BC, Canada in the more bizarre of locations. Boy with a Knife is found in an industrial area of the city where you would not expect a restaurant to be. I found it due to the shuttle I take to the office passed by a sign and I had to know what it was about. I have had both the blackened chicken burger and the miso mushroom burger and both were fantastic. They have also some of the best French fries I've had in a long time, opting to make them notable instead of the usual generic. The sandwiches are large, well made and dedecidely fresh tasting. If you are within distance I recommend giving them a visit or at the very least getting an order via Uber Eats or some other service. read more

It's so random, really, finding good eats in the back of a heavily industrial spot. But they were pretty darn good eats. We both got variations on hotdogs and both of us thought they needed a little more time to cook but I love, love, love, love the vibe and the ambiance and the rest of the menu. I've always wanted to try this place, but never had a chance until last week. It was definitely a nice kitchen for the companies around that area. Lots of people go there for work lunch and work gathering. I ordered the Cobb salad with steak, it was a pretty big portion and I was definitely full. I liked all the ingredients in the salad especially the soft heart boiled egg. I ordered decaf coffee but they don't have anything decaf, which kinda caught me off guard. Most of the restaurant would have it. The kitchen is open concept, it's very clean however, you can definitely smell the meat on the grill. In terms of location, I find it's a bit out of the way and a bit hard to find. My GPS couldn't find the exact location, so I had to drive around a bit. When I got there, I really needed to change my baby's diapers. When I saw the stairs, I was a little put off because there's no ramp around, which is fine, I asked my friend to come out and helped me with the stroller. But when I got in and tried to find the diaper changing table, I was told that they don't have one. I guess it's not baby friendly after all. Given the style and location, I wouldn't expect it has one, however, I don't think I will go back with the baby, unless they want me to change the diaper in the dining room again lol. read more

Saw this when i was searching for burger joints about 2 years ago. Was close to my old job but i was never allowed to "leave" for lunch time. They dont open late or on weekends since its in a business area so i never got to try. Finally got to go and tried their lamb burger with fries. Man.... it's so hard finding a good burger in the lower mainland, specifically in richmond. But this was amazing. It's no shake shack but its pretty bomb. The lamb was so moist and tender. The bun (and you guys need to know bread and me don't go together) was so soft. I think it was probably brioche since that's really the only bread i could consider finishing. This burger had a great combination of herbs and spices and didn't take away at all from the wonderful lamb flavor. The fries were shoestring which.. typically i dont like but these were good. It is kind of pricy.. the lamb burger was $16 but! I think it was worth it. This is a must try! The location is definitely unique. It's in a loading area sort of but the decor is pretty nice. It's even got a small deli on the other side. Plus its always a good meal when you smile from all the lamby burps u get for the rest of the day =) read more

Finally got to try this place! It's hard to come by especially when they're only open for lunch on weekdays. This place is a little hard to find - do not trust Google Map, instead follow the signs along the road and you will see a warehouse with umbrellas outside! I got a miso mushroom burger and a pulled pork sandwich (around $15 each). I really enjoyed the bun they use and the flavours of the burger/sandwich. They were tasty (and a lot messy)! The pulled pork wasn't very tender, but flavour-wise, it was solid. A little more bbq sauce would have been great. The miso burger is EXTREMELY salty. I didn't taste any miso flavour, but I suspect the miso was the salt element in the burger. On top of the already salty burger was a layer of bacon, which made the burger more salty. The flavours however, was quite delicious. I ordered a side of salad and fries, but was accidentally given two salads instead. I wasn't even mad considering the salad was a nice refreshing touch that combatted the salty burger, but we found the salad vinaigrette too sour. Portion is quite big. Overall, food was average. The miso burger was way too salty. I was quite thirsty after the meal. read more

Been coming here for quite some time since my office is really close. Really delicious soup and sandwiches in their front deli area. I usually get their small soup and small salad combo which comes out to around $8. My favourites are the borscht soup, potato salad, chicken lentil soup and asian noodle salad. Note - some of their soups can be OVERLY salty. Equally good food in the back restaurant area. I've had their burgers and rice bowls - good portion and super tasty. Trendy cool new place by my work! I heard about it through a co-worker and I browsed on the website to check out the menu. I was so impressed by all the options that I just had to make a visit! There really aren't any cool places to go for lunch in our area that are within walking distance, except for this place! I absolutely hate taking my car out when I only have 30 minutes for lunch, but the fact that I could walk to this place sparked my interest even more On a thursday afternoon a couple co-workers and I hit up the deli area. I was impresed with the nice clean design of the place and the fact that they gave you complimentary cucumber/mint water (yum!). I ordered the oven roasted turkey sandwich that had DELICIOUS caramelized onions and cranberries on toasted sour dough bread. I saw on the menu display that in one of their sandwiches, they used sriracha mayo (which I'm a HUGE fan of!). I just had to ask for a side of it to add on to my sandwich! and man, I'm glad I did! that kick of spice along with the sweetness of the onions and cranberries literally hit the spot just right. This used to be my go to lunch place either alone or with customers. I even brought my entire staff here for odd company paties. I think I was one of their informal marketeer for the last 8 months. Unfortunately, that ended today. First, some dishes are so salty that if it isn't the bad taste, then it will be the delayed heart attack that should prevent your come back. Most of their soups are heavily salted and I just simply avoided it in the past. Some burgers like the recent Ring of Fire, Korean burger, Spicy chicken burger, and Miso burger are also super salty. I usually get the BWAK ramen bowl or Poke bowl but tried to give the buger a try since my last Poke bowl's salmon didn't taste very fresh. I did like their cheese burger in the past so this time I tried their miso burger. It was even saltier than Korean BBQ burger and Ring of Fire burger. It was so salty that after quarter way of eating, I stopped. Why do I have to pay money to torture myself, just because the place looks trendy and the food is well plated. I called the waiter to complain that it was so salty that I would need a bowl of rice to even it out. His response floored me - he asked if I wanted a bowl of rice. Why do I have to order a bowl of rice to stuff down a burger I can't eat. He didn't give a sh!t. I asked for the bill and walked out. I advise avoiding this place - the food has been deteriorating and customer service also. If you happen to be here, stick with salad. read more

I've never been so obsessed with salad until I had their Cobb! Much love put into making this. And soooo guilt free! Their greens are amazing and always so fresh... and there are many different protein choices for you to pick. I love the chicken and salmon the most... The steak and tofu are also excellent choices but if you like your steak med rare, best to order medium here because of the cut they use. The dressing is a dill ranch. Just amazing. And everything is made in house! The stinky Pete burger is my second fave here... all the food is great and ranges for all dietary needs. The Cobb is my go to 2-3 times a week! read more

Came here with coworkers. They have been big fans of the deli ever since it opened. Ordered the chicken burger and half the table ordered the pork belly quinoa rice bowl. The ingredients in the chicken burger were fresh. Liked the addition of avocado and sprouts. However I wasn't a fan of the kaiser bun. It threw off the bun to filling ratio. Way too much bun. Other guys also ordered the salmon burger and they thought the same thing. Coworkers who ordered the pork belly bowl were all super disappointed. Most of them had a hard time finishing the bowl. The pork belly was overlooked and too tough to eat and there was too much quinoa without enough dressing which ended up being pretty bland. Not sure if my burger was worth $16. We had their daily special which was a sandwich combo of your choice. Any sandwich in the glass display + small soup or small salad. I got the braised beef sandwich with the bisque while my friend got the salami proscuitto and the chicken rice butternut squash soup. I still like their salami procuitto the most. The braised beef was good too but the horseradish sauce was a bit too sharp for me. It did pair well with the bisque. So I was glad I went with those two instead. The better of the soup, in irrespective of the sandwich, would be the butternut squash. Note: Their closing time now is 2:30pm instead of 2pm. and I only realized after ordering that the grill section is at the back. Now I need to make another visit, which I don't mind. read more

Excellent food. It caters to all lunch types: the sit down sandwich lovers, the quickie to go soup cuppers and the ones having secret sordid love affairs with French fries (yours truly). I've had their chicken and fig sandwich $9.00 and their Thai red curry bowl $5.50 (both with a bowl of fries $3.00). The fig and chicken is tasty. The curry bowl is on the sweet side and not spicy. Pleasant and catered mostly to Caucasian clientele but mixed ethnic staff. Very relaxed atmosphere, bar area like in a coffee shop. Tons of regulars here that work around the area and return every day. Viking way is full of vagabonds and a rough industrial area with a vast expanse of nothing to eat as far as the eye can see except Wendy's and McD's which is horribly run. I literally just sat back down from lunch at this place. It was pretty hyped by my coworkers. Let's start with the pros: - Really nice decor - The food is really good/creative and the layout is nice. Here's the part that I did not enjoy. The service was VERY slow. I had a table of 6 people and we simply ordered burgers. I counted about 3 other tables that sat down after us and got their food. I honestly think we waited close to 40 minutes for our food.. To me that just ruined the experience. I'm not sure if I would come back just because of that. read more

It's open concept, so we can all see that the cooking space quite small, but they've gotta put their thinking caps on and come up with a way to get food out in a timely manner; waiting an hour for 2 burgers and a salad is just too darn long. Is it good to have quality food in this area? Totes - the other options aren't awesome, but we don't generally have the luxury of taking a lengthy enough lunch hour to enjoy it. Was in Richmond a few times over the summer months and was looking for a spot to get a good lunch and not at chain. Heard about Boy With A Knife and decided to give it a try. The first time I sat on the deck, and later moved inside. It was a sunny day and even with an awning I found it to hot. But let's face it not many places in this industrial area you can have a sandwich, a beer on a patio for lunch. I had the chicken burger. It was fantastic lots of flavour. The bun was too large and only ate half. The second time I just had a roast beef sandwich from the deli. The beef is shredded and I think they add some glazed cabbage or onion it was amazing. The best beef sandwich I've ever had and have told everyone about it. Definitely worth the trip just for this sandwich. Washed it down with a bottle of Coke, yes a bottle not some fountain or canned drink. Not sure why the bottle makes it taste better. I've been back a third time and had the hamburger. Really good flavour and maybe a bit to much to eat. I couldn't finish it, and was completely full the rest of the day. Worth having but maybe share it with somebody. Very casual atmosphere with fast friendly service, it has a Gastown feel which I really like. The chef was there and his helpfulness and enthusiasm has won me over. I was in Richmond for work for 2 weeks and every single day except one, my team and I ate lunch at Boy With a Knife. By the end we had tried everything on the menu between all of us - some things were better than others (the duck confit sandwich special and bahn mi burger stand out), but everything was good - even the coffee - we wished it could be open for dinner. Also a plus: you get to divide your choice side into half fries and half any salad. We could never figure out a consistency of when it was busy, when service was faster vs slower, etc, it was never too problematic though and always worth the chance. Good team working there. The opening of the patio was a game-changer. Thankful for the woman that suggested this place - we've continued the tradition by telling everyone else we know about it. High expectations fulfilled! The banh mi chicken burger was sexy af. It was almost as good as the day I lost my virginity, I didn't want it to end. The location is a little hidden towards the industrial end of Richmond. Most of the staff were white so the service was a lot better than what you'd usually find in Richmond. Highly recommend you make that your first attempt at the menu. The hours suck so it's virtually impossible to enjoy this place if you have a mon-fri 9-5. Go on your day off as they close at 2:30pm. I had a wrap this time and it was equally as good. They also serve soup, butter chicken (which seems very popular) and pastries/coffee.
