This is a late post. Was here on a whim because of its convenient location to my next stop. I came during Dine Out Vancouver, and decided to try their lunch offerings. The $25 menu price is very reasonable for 3 courses, an equivalent value to a CAVU Burger. While price was very reasonable, the dishes were not great. Caesar dressing was a bit weak and tasted like store bought dressing in a bottle. Burger a bit dry and Crème Brûlée was a tad too sweet. Very friendly hosts and she gave us free parking. read more

We are at the beginning of a cruise vacation. Spending two days in Richmond/Vancouver, BC before setting sail on the NCL Jade bound for Alaska and the Pacific Coast (BC, Washington, Oregon, and California). We tried CAVU Kitchen and Bar for HH and dinner. The restaurant had a 50% off wine bottle special for HH. We went for it and combined it with dinner. Our server Shanu was on my point. She was handling the bar and tables by herself. She was attentive and provided excellent service. We had the Nachs for an appetizer. Hand cut chips, house made salsa, cheese mix, house spice, avocado, tomatoes, and jalapenos, so fulfilling! Next up were the Grilled Miso Salmon and the Big Salad featuring Tofu. Both were excellently prepare with the Salmon being flaky and moist. The Salmon was presented with edamame, "forbidden" rice, carrot and miso puree, pickle and crispy ginger, and water crisp.The Salmon had a perfect char. The Big Salad included cucumbers, heirloom tomatoes, avocado, red onions, hard boiled egg, olives, romaine lettuce, cranberries, feta cheese, and herb ranch dressing. We washed it all down with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc at half price a HH special and a glass of old fashioned featuring Jim Beam. Amazingly another patron picked up the tab on the wine bottle, bless him! We must pass that forward. I didn't know what to expect from this hotel spot but was pleasantly surprised with the quality and presentation. We give them 4.5 for the food, the execution, and presentation. Small restaurant inside of hotel that is quiet but charming. The bartender was also my server who was very personal and was quick. The waffle fries were good but make sure to skip the salsa. They use a really sweet ketchup (not Heinz) so it hurts the overall taste. Tried the ahi tuna and it was good. Breakfast buffet in the morning was good too. I would give it 3.5 stars but the staff were friendly so I rounded up. read more

I came here for their Valentine's Day special. I don't know if this was a new menu for them which is why I may have not enjoyed their food. For apps we ordered the cornbread which was super hard and not soft and buttery at all. We ordered the shrimp and pasta. The shrimp pieces were well cooked and seasoned but the pasta was extremely bland. I doused it in salt and pepper in order to eat it. The steak was just fine. The sauce it came with was bad but the meat was fine. Not the best. The only saving Grace was the dessert platter. Everything on the platter was good. It's sad because we really looked forward to enjoying a good meal for Valentine's Day but every course was extremely disappointing. read more

I went to the Cavu kitchen before and it was fine. I was looking for a weekend breakfast buffet and I found that they do serve it in this place and since it isn't far from where I live I decided to give it a shot. Long story short : $32 + tips per person for what they called continental buffet : go to Wendy's or IHOP and you will get better food and more options!! 1- it shouldnt be called a buffet : it s basically a mini one with very limited choices : bacon, scrambled eggs, potatoes and some bakery items 2- I was expecting the quality to compensate for the lack of choices they had. Unfortunately even the quality was below average : Felt like eating in uncle Willis or delta casino buffet. Any other average breakfast place would offer much better quality 3- The price isn't justified : not enough choices , quality isn't even average, service is fine. 100% over priced! I would probably be just satisfied if it was a 12.99 buffet! They dont deserve a single star rating for the buffet but I still gave 1 star cause I've tried some non buffet items before and it was acceptable. Early flight in the morning so I just use the hotel bar for my last dinner in this trip. Fresh and nicely flavored mussels, burger with the bacon crispied just right. I am American so maybe this is not the way customer service goes in Canada but my partner ordered an Aperol spritz and it tasted bitter and just wasn't good at all. We told our server there was something wrong with it and asked for another ounce of Aperol. Our server said 'well that's the recipe they follow and another ounce of Aperol would be an up charge'. She then proceeded to be combative. After going back n forth.. us telling her the drink was gross she finally said she would ask her manager. No more than 1 min later another ounce of Aperol was deliver to our table and it made a world of difference. Point being rather than blaming the customer for the mistake.. in American restaurants the server would immediately remove the bad item and either have it remade or honor the customer's request. I guess this restaurant would rather serve something that tastes bad and be rude to the customers about it. This experience affected our entire party of 12 and made the rest of the experience uncomfortable. read more

We went to Cavu @ Hilton for the 1st time for my Birthday, and the service was outstanding! We were served by the F&B Manager Kavindri, and boy oh boy, was she ever so good!! She didn't leave any leaf unturned, and made every effort to please us and made everything more than perfect. Her pleasant demeanor, her smile, her service, her attitude was all so perfect that I can't give her 5* service rating but a 7* rating!!!!!!! Came for the Mac and cheese burger and they don't have it anymore was pretty disappointed as I've heard really good things about that one, I tried the poutine burger instead it was a good burger very well done just not my taste really. Just got a chance to try this amazing Mac n' cheese burger from @cavukitchenbar for #leburgerweek! Well worth the wait, the batter was super crunchy, mac and cheese well seasoned with delicious bacon and topped with cheese! Only disappointment was the burger patty, which was a little overcooked. Tasted good but texture was too dry. We got the soup with our burger, which was a tomato bisque, which was delightful! Creamy with just enough tanginess for a well-rounded flavor. Don't miss out! They offer it until the end of the month of September! We also had their mini moules et frites, these came in a white wine sauce with pork belly (which was delicious btw). Some of our mussels were questionable, but mostly fresh. Fries were thick cut, fluffy inside and crispy outside! Good portion size for the price! Went here for Dine Out and now for the BOGO Burger Month (Feb 3 to Feb 29, 2020). For Dine Out, had the lunch box, where we had corn chowder, CAVU-cado toast, and lemon pot de crème for dessert. Also had a side of the Manchurian Cauliflower. Highly recommended and delicious way to get your veggies in. For the BOGO burger, we had the Deep Blue Burger (Atlantic Salmon) and the Which Came First Burger (Chicken + fried egg). All burgers come with crispy, golden fries (or soup or salad for a healthier option). All in all, great place for a lunch or dinner. They also do validate parking here (just remember to park on the upper floors of the parkade and register your license plate at the front desk. We had early dinner at this restaurant attached to Hilton Airport Hotel in Vancouver at the tail end of an Alaska Cruise. We enjoyed the food, drinks and most of the service by friendly staff. It goes without saying that the ambience was up to Hilton standards. read more

We had our Christmas Eve dinner here last week. The restaurant is located inside the Hilton Vancouver Airport Hotel, so complimentary hotel parking is available for dining guests. It was nice that the regular menu (not just the special menu) was also available that evening. Either way, we both still decided to go with the 3-course Christmas set meal. 1st course: - Yam soup. It was thick, creamy, and had a rich, interesting taste. Portion was a little small, even for a starter soup. 2nd course: - Turkey dinner. The cuts of turkey were cooked to tender perfection. The stuffing and other sides were delicious too. (I also tried a few bites of my friend's 2nd course:) - Beef short rib. The beef short rib was tender, juicy, and flavourful. My friend enjoyed this dish. 3rd course: - English carrot pudding dessert. A little too sweet and a tad dry, but still quite tasty. Overall, food tasted pretty good, and the ambience was nice. The only weird issue we encountered was that both plates of food for the 2nd course (mine & my friend's) initially came out cold-ish. Maybe they sat out too long before getting served? Our server was apologetic, but we weren't too annoyed since the replacement food arrived piping hot and tasted delicious. read more

This is the 2nd time we came to this place for celebration. A little fancier food without the price tag. Best deal is to use the entertainment book coupon to get $25 off 2nd entree! We spent only $60 for all 3 of us including dessert. The lamb duo we had was amazing. Lamb shoulder was nicely cooked but the lamb kofta (meatball) blew my mind. So flavourful yet bringing out the best lamb taste. The veggie and couscous just make the meal perfect The salmon steak was also awesome. The char add that little bit of smoke and crisps on the skin. Love it! Wish it didn't have so much bones in it. Last but the best highlight is $8 Mac and cheese kids meal with drink and gelato dessert. And it's real amc and cheese, not salty yet cheesy good! What can you ask for more than that? It comes with 2 giant piece of bread too. Totally can split into 2 meals! You can also park for free. Just need to register your plate at the reception. We had been staying at the Hilton Vancouver Hotel for five days, and dinning in only for breakfast which is also recommended. On the last day, dined for dinner at the Cavu Kitchen. Interesting menu items that showcase local food. Much better than typical hotel food, and would recommend. We chose Steak with Prawns, and BBQ Ribs with Jalapeno Corn Bread. Both tasty, and well-prepare and presented. Side salad is extra. Several drink specials. We chose a Bombay Sapphire martini. Bourbons offered included Jack Daniels and Makers Mark. Wines include many from BC. The new restaurant décor is hip and modern. Big improvement over the old and tired Carmichael's. Pluses: Several draught beers are offered including a fine Stanley Park Amber Ale. Only gripe is glass size is tiny...maybe 10 oz. Seems chintzy for an item with an 80% profit margin. read more

with a couple of good friends, finally tried this place right under the hilton hotel in richmond. been driving by it so many times that finally i said, time to give it a go. place is nice and clean. free parking for patrons. elegantly designed as the hilton is known for. nice lobby with free water and lemonade and even fruit. so refreshing!! seated promptly and hostess and server very very nice and accommodating. started off with the calamari and the onion ring/ zucchini combo. ....perfectly fried and tender pieces of squid. tartar sauce artistically placed on the plate like a brush of paint. downside is, wasnt enough. their calamari rings were smaller than most. the batter is also unique as it tasted like an onion ring. the onion rings werent enough. just a few pieces as well as the zuchinni. breading didnt stick well to the. zucchini either but taste was there. seasoned well. for mains, i had the ribs with curly fries and fried honey bread. wife had the lamb kofta meatballs .. ribs were not grilled. weak smoky / grilled aroma and flavour. meat was succulent and fall of the bone and bbq sauce was delicious. saved the dish actually. curly fries were perfect. seasoned well and generous serving too. the fried honey bread was way out of place. it was hard, bland, and dry inside and out. one taste and i didnt bother with it. the lamb meatballs were spiced nicely...good touch but the actual meat was dry. fat to meat ratio was off. they shoudlve added aome pork or bacon to make the meatballs juicy. meatballs werent succulent and tender. the kofta was done well. al dente and excellent alternative to traditional pasta. there was a sprinkle of mushrooms around too. nice touch. service on the other hand was awesome. server made sure we were well taken care off and whatever we needed was there. answered all my questions and made appropriate suggestions. for what i got, i would go back and try their happy hour. saw the offerings and looked interesting. deserves a second try for me. cheers! happy eating! read more

Undecided which restaurant to go for VDO, so we decide to try Cavu, the menu looks promising and good and its $35.00, so why noT. The restaurant is located inside Hilton Hotel in Richmond. There's only few people dining in, which was very nice. Some places can be very busy and loud. It's just perfect specially cOming off from work. Its just nice to have a good quiet dinner We had MUssles and corn dOg poppers for appy The portion was reasonable (but not good for shAring) there weRe few empty mussel sHells, i waS hoping the meat waS mixed in the broth bUt was not. The taste was bland. ( I was thinking A little bit of cream or white winE with leeks or cilantro will help elevate the taste of the broth and gives more taste to the mussels. In addition, there will be a great broth to dip the garlic bread) aLthough there's bit of bacon and tomatO relish it didnt help boost the flavour. Let's talk about the corn dog- it was a whole hotdog cut up into pieces and dipped in batter. Its noT the traditional "corn dog" batter . The mac and cheese saauce was not thin enough to dip them. It was a consistency of a spread (if they are calling it a sauce, its supposed to be pourable or dippable but it turns out to be thick) and again, it was a bland. It has more macaroni taste (floury taste)the ratio of the macaroni and cheese was not balance. I just hope it was just cheese. The sweet mustard was just okay For Entrees My boyfriend had the PORK BELLY with cipollini onions, citrus glaze, braised cabbage, cashew puree. The pork belly was perfectly cooked and the pork skin was deliciusly crunchy the pork itself was great. The side dishes that coMEs alOng was a bit of a missed! The braised cabbage taste like a boiled cabbage. Very small portion. The cipollini onions was just an additional garnish and there was a dub of cAshew puree served no purpose at all. The citrus glaze doesn't have enough tarTness to cut through the fatty portion of the pork belly. I Had the LAMB SHANK with a side tomato stew, arborio grits, pickled kale slaw, cider gastrique. I regret having this. The lamb taste gamey. Its like boiled lamb shank. Was so gamey and bland. Just wished that the lamb was stEwed in tomato rather than having a stewed toMatoes on the side. The arborio grits, why?? It can be served on risotto, why grits. It just added texture but has nO taste. I was hoping the pickled kale and the cider gastrique will hElp with the gaminess of the meat but it didnt. There was a few shrEded kAle and a dash of cider. IT was a boring, not well thought dish. (Im sorry) Lets talk about the dessert We both dEcided to have the WINTER COBBLER. Sounds like wintery to me. The cranberries, apples and cinnamon, you cant go wrong with that but unfortunately there was NO apples, instead they used few strawberries and lots of cranberries. It was very sour. (It serve a a good palate cleanser after a gamey lamb) but it was too sour) DEspiTe of the vannilla gelato and creme anglaise it didnt help with the tartiness of the dish. The sourness makes me scrunched up. The overrall experience was okay. The menu needs to be re-thought again, IT can be improved and I bet the flavour wilL taste even better. February, 1, 2019 I made reservation for dinning table, but they served us to sit on high chair instead. I dont mind sit there, but not comfortable for my parents, who over 70 years old. They were Extremely slow services, took them half hour to give us tasteless mussels with thin curly slices of salty sausage In silver pot; another half hour for hard/ chewy/ tasteless/ small piece lamb shank (I need to ask for steak knife to cut it), it was my worst lamb shank in my life thick batter/ dated oil taste fish and chips; tasteless cheap quality New York steak; 2 glasses of wine, one of the wine glass's bottom got wine on it, cant believe hotel's restaurant server can be this careless. Everytime we need something, I need to walk to the bar to ask for help. Our waitress was too busy chatting another customers. I saw 6 customers were so mad and left, who just finished their wine, because of their food never come past an hour and half. We were so disappointed for their services and food quality. After creating the Le Big Mac N' Cheese Burger back in September, CAVU Kitchen Bar just launches a new burger, incorporating the concept of surf & turf - The Baller. Putting both lobster and beef into one burger sounds like a very baller thing to do, yet CAVU Kitchen Bar did it again. We also tried other dishes, including cheese that is made in house. Before we even started our party, our host, Vivian has already prepared the signature CAVU Sea Salt Chips. They are fresh and lightly salted, and I got addicted to them. I started to nibble on them while waiting for everyone to arrive. This item is only available on the happy hour menu, which is available from 3 - 6 pm and 10 - 11 pm from Monday to Friday. We officially started our party with more dishes from the happy hour menu: Mediterranean Labneh and Fried Chicken Basket. Mediterranean Labneh is a soft cheese spread, which is made in house. It is dressed with arbequina olive oil and garnished with dukkah, olives, and rosemary. It also comes with naan bread for dipping. What I suggest to do to get the best flavor out of this dish is to get a small piece of the soft cheese and first cover it with the olive oil. Then spread it on the bread with the addition of dukkah and/or olives. You can choose between the regular or Nashville hot style for the Fried Chicken Basket. It also comes with the frank's red hot sauce. After trying both, I prefer the Nashville hot style, because the batter from the regular is bland. And I think the red hot sauce is way too spicy which dominates the flavor of the dish. It numbs my palette, and I would prefer the natural, easy-going spice from the Nashville hot style fried chicken. Crispy Chilli Fried Squid and Prawns is quite bland, and I can barely feel the heat from the togarashi spice and shishito pepper nor any seasonings. The dish may want to mimic a Chinese snack, deep-fried squid tentacles (炸魷魚鬚). Unfortunately, it is just like normal calamari. I will pass by this dish. Our entrees arrived. The first dish is the Stout Braised Beef Short Rib. It is well seasoned and tender. I love the pairing with steak mushrooms, peas, and carrots. For the side, it is the pomme pont neuf (aka the Parisian Fried Potatoes). I also call it the potato bricks, because they do look like mini bricks! Cioppino came next. It is a fisherman's stew, using spiced tomato broth as a base. It has rockfish, mussels, squid, and prawns. It is flavorful, and I like to dip the crusty bread into the stew. The seafood is fresh and perfectly cooked. After introducing all the appetizers and entrees, it is time to talk about the Baller, the December Special incorporating both beef and lobster into one masterpiece. The buns are sandwiching the 8oz beef patty and sauteed lobster. It also has bearnaise sauce, asparagus, arugula, dijonaise, and brioche. I like the surf n turf idea, but I think the patty lacks seasoning. The lobster is nicely cooked, but I think this burger is not my cup of tea. If the patty is more flavorful, it will be more enjoyable to eat the burger. *** Overall Impression *** This is my third time coming to CAVU Kitchen Bar, and I think there are definitely some outstanding dishes, such as the Mediterranean Labneh, Stout Braised Beef Short Rib, and CAVU Sea Salt Chips. I also recommend the "Which Came First" Burger, which I tried before. However, there are also some dishes that need improvements in seasoning. I lovely the restaurant's ambiance, because it is not too noisy and spacious. It is also good for large groups if you are looking for a place that offers an extensive menu during happy hour. Came here about 4 months ago for lunch with my colleagues. Service was top-notch and our server was very attentive. There was a long delay before we finally got our food, possibly because there was a large group of flight crew dining at the same time. They sent over a complimentary dessert platter as an apology for the wait. It included their no-bake cheesecake, a tiramisu, and some other mousse cake all of which were delicious needless to say! Good food but terrible service. They have an excellent selection of gourmet burgers and we were excited to try them. Sadly it took 30 minutes for the supervisor who seated us to take our order and another 30 for our burgers to arrive. Please note that it wasn't busy when we got there for our 1:30pm reservations, nor 30 minutes after we were seated, so I'm not sure why the service was so painfully slow. When I stated to our server that the service was so slow, he refused to acknowledge the facts, instead he smuggly retorted 'good food is worth the wait'. This restaurant is located inside the Hilton airport hotel and is right by the lobby area. The restaurant is decorated nicely with dark wood furnishings and wide areas to move around. We were able to try the buffet breakfast here and it was only ok. They had fried rice, stir fried noodles and congee here which I found interesting. This was my first time seeing them being served during breakfast and was definitely not what I expected. They also had your standard eggs, bacon and hash browns. I was able to try a bit of everything except for the congee and as usual breakfast tastes like breakfast, no changes here. I'm not sure if I would come here again as I got a free meal here from my stay at the hotel, but it was good for a quick relaxing breakfast to start the day. read more

Newly introduced menu, wonderful service and a great way to celebrate. Parking is in the hotel, it can be a bit confusing which hotel and where to park but after that's all said and done. Well, just sit and relax and have a good meal. Even though it's in a Hotel, the food served here is modern westernized west coast cuisine. Prices are I bit higher but you get what you pay for. I was actually impressed. ( wut, did I come with lowered expectations? Maybe, considering my experience at the hotel next door) Our server was fun! The food looked fun and tasted how it looked. Loved my Cobb salad. It wasn't your ordinary salad. I had nibbles of the other dishes. Pasta was good, noodles were toothsome and the salmon perfectly seared and flavoured. The only thing was the Saskatchewan pork belly with crispy crunch skin. Instead of that porchetta skin type crunch and flavour it was rubbery like a tough old tire. On the plus side it tasted good and you got a good workout for your jaw. I've been back for the salads. Will have to come back for another nice "date" type dinner again. The environment, and service were both very good here. Not busy on a weekend evening. The food presentation was also nicely done. Why 2 stars? The food itself. Everything was very dry. If you are staying in Richmond BC (where the airport is located) and wondering where to celebrate, I highly recommend Cavu Kitchen Bar at the Hilton YVR airport. We celebrated Cavu Kitchen Bar last year (ringing in 2017) and it was absolutely a blast. I am writing this one year later, because we were discussing on where to go for New Year's Eve in Vancouver. I started showing friends our 2017 NYE celebration at Hilton Hotel YVR Airport and everyone was so impressed. I remembered how wonderful it was. The dinner was $55 per person for what I think was a 3 or 5 course meal. I don't quite remember what we had since I am writing this one year later, but I have photos of the dinner and the event to add to this review. There were 2017 large gold balloons set up at the lobby and christmas trees and decor all around the hotel area. In Cavu, there were 2 areas for dining, one in the bar and one in the restaurant. Our table was in the restaurant area which was brighter and more open. If you book, make sure you request not to have your table close to where the DJ sets up, or the speakers will be loud at your table. We were lucky and sat at a table in the back (away from the speakers). Each guest received complimentary beads, hats and tiaras to wear. Everyone also received some type of whistle horn (I don't know what they are called), but they can be blown to make festive noises. Complimentary champagne was handed out later in the evening. The DJ started the music at around 9pm or 10pm. The music selection was really good. I wish I remembered who he was so I could write his name down here. The dancing took place in the same are as the restaurant, but on a hardwood floor area. The crowd ranged from 25 - 60 year olds so it was diverse and a lot of fun. It got crowded around 11pm and the only complaint I had was that there were (just a few) people holding wine glasses and getting drunk on the dance floor and one person spilled their champagne on the floor. There were balloons attached to the ceiling and they were let out right at midnight. From my past NYE experience here, I had a lot of fun and recommend it for those staying near the airport. read more

I work close by and have always wanted to try this place. Several colleagues have had positive reviews about this restaurant. Restaurant was clean and quite trendy. You really can't tell from the outside. We ordered the lunch combo, halibut burger and Cavu Cobb salad. Everything was fresh and tasted great. The presentation was nice and they do not skimp on ingredients. You can tell the chef really pays attention to detail. We have already planned to come back for happy hour. This is a hidden gem. I only went here out of curiosity after seeing the restaurant rebranded the old Carmichael's, which frankly was terrible. I have had lunch and dinner here a few times in the past few months. I've been impressed by the quality of the food each time. Also had their special menu dinner on one occasion and it was excellent and good value. I have been coming here since it first opened as Sax Lounge. It is a hotel style bar/lounge in the Richmond Hilton Hotel with not so typical (and some typical) bar food options. Over the course of many years they have changed the menu (and name once) always striving to improve. The fairly recent renovation (might be over a year now?) was a nice touch and a good update. I find that that changes were often based on feedback from both regulars and visitors. The staff and service has always been excellent. The drinks and food are above average and have decent lunch options and happy hour specials. Overall it's a good choice for a casual business meeting or even just a mid-priced meal. They also have a larger restaurant area adjacent to the lounge for larger groups or a more traditional dinner setting. They also a a semi-private table which is a nice touch. The space is comfortable and ambiance is neither loud or too quiet. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend CAVU for any business traveler or any local that wants to deviate from the norm. read more
