Hotel-adjacent restaurant (at a hotel in which we were not staying), serving decent enough fare. In search of a bog-standard plate of bacon and eggs in a neighborhood primarily populated by Asian restaurants, we stopped in a little before noon, hoping to take a crack at their breakfast menu, but were presented with only a lunch menu. Thankfully, a standard breakfast plate (unadvertised on the menu) was an all-day option, so we ordered that. While there was nothing remarkable about it, there was similarly nothing unremarkable about it, either...your typical boilerplate breakfast. It did the job. Service was a bit spotty and forgetful (it took three tries to get waters delivered to the table), but pleasant enough. The server who came to our table was very informative, and she made some great suggestions on what we should try to eat. We were in a time crunch so this place was conveniently located near the hotel. I mean really, how bad can you go wrong with breakfast. You can't so I rated in the middle. The food was ok, typical breakfast food. Starbucks was within the vicinity. The menu is very limited, not a lot of options to choose from and overpriced. I remember thinking I can get breakfast from Starbucks for more than 1/2 the cost. Keep in mind I was comparing a breakfast sandwich in the menu to the breakfast sandwich at Starbucks. read more

Harold's Bistro & Bar is located inside the Sheraton Hotel in Richmond and is more spacious on the inside than it looks! The entrance is narrow but as you walk into the restaurant you can see that the dining area opens up and has a buffet style dining area at the back. To start our meal we had a variety of appetizers to choose from. They were in a separate area so we could go up and choose what we wanted to try. The wings came in a variety of flavours including honey garlic, bbq, and salt and pepper. It came with celery and ranch on the side. The sauce on the wings were coated nicely and not sticky. You know when you get wings that are super sticky and you end up with a mess all over your fingers and your face? Luckily, this was not the case with these. The spinach dip was made with spinach, artichoke, cream cheese, and parmesan cheese dip. The dip was super creamy but a bit confusing because of all the flavours since we weren't sure if it was a spinach dip or artichoke dip. Finally tried the food here. Quite good for a hotel themed place. As it was a nice hot sunny day, my buddy and I opted for the outdoor patio. As the hotel completely surrounds the area, it gives the place a resort-like feel. Plenty of trees, tables with umbrellas, and a swimming pool. Sure beats the indoor restaurant area. Special mention. Sangria is pretty decent. The interesting thing is that they seem to be using different types of wine. Sometimes the liquid is transparent while other times it isn't. Personally I thought the transparent one tasted better. The Specialty Burger is quite good. Loaded with cheese, bacon, onions, and mushrooms. Beautiful. Fries here are also surprisingly good. Nice and crisp. Special mention. Pricing is definitely higher than normal, but the venue and scenery are worth the premium. read more

Harold.... I can't say I will be back. A work Christmas party landed me at Harold's, and considering it's such a large venue and not that busy, I understand why it was chosen as our venue. Located in the Sheraton Hotel, Harold's Bistro has quite the diverse menu; in my opinion with ridiculous prices! I would not say Harold's is particularly fancy and I don't think the prices reflect the ambiance. Our group of 15 was seated at the back of the restaurant and it really felt like I was having dinner in a conference room. The ambiance is a little more interesting if you are seated in the main part of the restaurant. Along with steep prices you get the classic small portions. I wanted to order the salad with tuna, but for $30 no thanks!! I went with the chicken noodle soup for $8. My chicken noodle soup was served in this silly bowl with a ridiculously wide brim that I ended up tipping over and spilling 1/4 of my only half full bowl of soup. Arrrgg. Check out the prices from my menu shots. The consensus at the table was "overpriced, very small portions for the price and hit or miss with the food itself. The nachos were burnt and lacking in cheese, the Quesadilla was the smallest I have seen for an entree and at $16!! Service was attentive and friendly. There is no bathroom in the restaurant you have to leave and go for a stroll passed the gift shop. I know it's in a hotel, but I still thought that was silly. read more

Surprisingly decent. I always drove by this place and instantly recognized the restaurant logo. However I had never even been inside. Upon a friend's recommendation and choice for a friend's birthday dinner, I finally got to try this place. They have OpenTable reservations. The restaurant is quite spacious inside. There is also a large bar and lounge area. After a couple minutes, the hostess saw us and came to seat us. We registered our cars with her so that we wouldn't need to pay for parking. Then we got seated in a bench and chair type table. It was comfortable and private, as the restaurant area is pretty big. When I quickly read some reviews on the place before deciding what to order, I saw that someone mentioned they had an Entertainment book Coupon. I was excited to use that - but it required a purchase of 2 drinks. So my friend and I each got a tea ($4!!). I guess it's still worth it. The entree was buy one get one. I got the seafood linguine. It came with a generous amount of seafood - at least 6 mussels, 2 medium sized scallops, and 2 large shrimp. It also had a lot of shaved parmesan and 2 garlic bread on top. The sauce was a tomato sauce and it tasted pretty good. My friends got the Vietnamese burger, veggie burger, chicken alfredo, and liver and onions. They were all happy with what they ordered. I thought the presentation for the liver and onions was very nice. Service was good, and it's a great place to sit around and talk since it's not loud at all. We didn't get charged a cake fee for my friend's birthday. The tea was a little expensive for $4. Food is decent, in value and in taste. I may come back, I haven't decided yet. read more

I stopped by for the deluxe breakfast buffet ($23) with a couple friends. The hotel staff could not answer if parking could be validated beforehand and when my friend called the restaurant the day before, no staff picked up the call. Our server was could not manage the floor even though it was not that busy on a weekday. Our server took our egg order (sunny side eggs and an omelette). I asked for coffee and juice, but I never saw my cup of coffee until I flagged another server. When it came to paying for the bill, our server dropped off the bill and did not came back with the credit card machine until she caught me staring right at her as she strolled around the floor and suddenly remembered us. It was a buffet and the service was lacklustre. Our server only had to refill drinks, get our bill, process payment and she sort of failed there. She never once stopped by to clear dirty plates, refill juice/water or checked up on us after dropping off the omelette and fried egg. She did answer that parking could be validated with license plate. Three stars for the food. The food was selection was alright. Juice and coffee was included in the price. read more

Rarely go for lunch in western food at Richmond. Harold's Bristo is causal place with nice lounge for lunch or happy hour and enjoy the huge patio outside. I hadn't been there before and wasn't sure what it would be like since it was part of a hotel, but the restaurant had a great menu, lots of nice variety. Comp bread was nice and fresh. It was pretty disappointing to tell the truth.... Service was slow and lethargic... Getting a refill for my drink was like pulling teeth! Harold's Bistro is one of those surprise finds located inside a hotel. Situated on the lobby level of the Sheraton Airport Hotel in Richmond, Harold's is a spacious restaurant with a main dining area that has a patio located in the hotel courtyard and a lounge area with a large square bar, tables and booths. Overall the service is quick and friendly and the food is better than might be expected. I had the Halibut Burger which was served on ciabatta bread with some sautéed onions and the right amount of mayo. The dish was served warm with a side salad for $17. The rest of the dishes being served to other guests also seemed well-prepared. For a casual dining experience, I would highly recommend Harold's. Pair that early evening dinner with a stroll through Minoru Park which is right across the road ad you have an overall great experience. read more

Was just checking out the neighbourhood and came upon this place. It was packed during the one of the playoffs. Decided to come back another day and bring some friends. We all decided that this wasn't a bad bar/ bistro considered it was in the Sheraton hotel. The decor was lounge like and very spacious, you have the bar situated in the middle with lots of tv space to see the games. Next to it is the bistro that offers a variety of reasonably priced beer, wines, and cocktails. Surprisingly the food was really yummy and the price moderate. They have specials at lunch and for dinner. A lunch special could be soup and sandwich for just $11.00. Also, kids under 3 years old can choose from a selection of items on the menu (hot dog, mac and cheese) and eat for free. read more

This review is mostly for the extra charge for honey ( in those plastic containers with tear off top) and lemon slice for tea that felt like highway robbery! Have you ever been to a restaurant that charges extra for honey and or lemon slices for your tea?? Why don't they charge for the sugar and cream? Crockery in my books. Then again, this place is a hotel restaurant and hotels seem to do this. At least this one does. Itemizing every little detail like it's being run by accountants. That aside and my wake up call to their high end hotel style prices made me rethink this place. They'll always be fairly busy catering to their trapped clientele who stay at the hotel. For the locals, the seniors who may want to dine here more often, cannot. Not with so many options for food in this town. The foods do service I have to admit is pretty good. But most often now, I'll choose where my dollars are now being spent. And what tipped it off for me was the price they charged for lemon and honey. First time in 50 years have I ever seen that. If it wasn't for that, my original review would still stand. 0 stars for the cost of honey and lemon, 1 star for the pricing, 4 stars for the food on average. 4 stars for the service on average. read more

Richmond might be far from where I live but the drive was worth it to go to Harold's Bistro & Bar. Attending to watch the Lion's game on their big screens, my boyfriend and I met up with some of his friend there. The drinks were flowing, and I have to say all the bevvies were fantastic (I kept sampling one of the guys' as he was getting martinis and cocktails). Feeling hungry we decided to eat. The menu has a great range, and having a craving for Indian food at the time I was delighted to find butter chicken which I was told was fantasic (I can confirm, indeed it was). My boyfriend had fish and chips which resulted in me stealing half of his chips (hey, I gave him my naan it's only fair), and I must note some of the best quality chips in the lower mainland. The funnest part is I learned the place is named after one of their regulars! Even more fun, they have taken photos of him and photoshopped them into famous old Hollywood celebrity photos (him cutting Elvis' hair, etc). The vibe is pretty fun; the mod-ish furniture is complimented with said old phots, great staff, and great food and drink. read more

Really like the openness of this bar, it's happening on the weekends, another great place to catch a hockey game. It's right in the middle, with lounge seating around it, kinda hard to eat as you're leaning forward munching while sitting in these TD-like ar chairs. Restaurant seating in the back. Can't say for the food, though i've been tempted w/ the Entertainment Book's 2 for 1 coupon, which they seem to amazingly do year after year, seems like it's been since high school i've seen that annoying coupon lol. We're just here for drinks most of the time. Open til midnite, so that's a good thing for the hotel guests up at the Sheraton, or even if you have to walk a minute from Marriott. Hello, I am a tourist from California USA. This place, Harold's, came very highly recommended from the front desk ladies at the hotel I am staying at. When my party arrived to the please wait to be seated sign...that's what we did wait. And wait and wait and wait. The person behind the bar made eye contact with me and so did a server type person. It was not any type of busy at all! Yet they chose to ignore us. Maybe it's because we are Americans? Who knows. If I could give them zero stars I would. But the menu is so expensive and the food was not yummy at all - I ordered the southwest salad which is steak with taco salad and it was $27. Asked for medium rare and it was overcooked, the peach sangria I had was bland, and the service unfortunately was awful too. Our servers name was nandini (I think) - she was always nowhere to be found and didn't have a smile on her face. I told her to put the birthday boys drink on my bill and she forgot and she looked all confused when I asked her to correct it... Awful experience. My overall bill for a not so tasty salad, 1 bland and weird bitter sangria, and 1 birthday boy beer was $56 something including group grat of %15. I definitely will not return. read more

Me likey! Lunch was a basic tuna and split pea but tasty, cheap, and served lightning fast. I swear they had it there in under 2 minutes. The place is big, lots of comfy booth seating, mellow decor. Next time we'll sit outside by the pool. I could see this being a great spot for summer lunch. parking isn't cheap in the lot but they validate. I was at Harold's for an event so got to try a little bit of a few things. First dish was their Tuna Tataki which was came with some papaya and sauce. The tuna was average, but the papaya and their sauce supplemented the flavors very well. Second was their Gyoza which was very juicy and the skin was a little hard. Third was their Crab Cake which is different than the ones I usually eat. I tend to eat ones at asian restaurants who pound the meat till it's a clump so it's really chewy when you eat it. Harold's, you can see the strains of crab meet. All in all, very tasty. Fourth was their Steak Salad, the steak was a bit overcooked for my tasting. If it was a bit more raw or more thinly sliced or smaller bits, I believe it would go better with the salad. Fifth was the Ling Cod with miso sauce. This one I would say was my favourite of the night cause I really enjoy fish. It was very smooth and silky. If you like black cod, this is basically the same. Sixth and Seventh was the Asparagus Ravioli, and Prawn and Chicken Laksa, which were both okay, nothing too special. Finally, the dessert was their Bread Pudding with caramelized sugar. This one very good and definitely needs to be eaten fresh as I had another one later, but it wasn't as good anymore after chilling a bit. They recommend getting ice cream with it, which I might try next time. read more

Tried the breakfast. Decent, but a bit to reliant on processed or pre-made foods for my liking. I ordered the Pacific Breakfast with a Crab Cake. Nice presentation, good enough, but not great. The Crab Cake didn't meet what I had hoped for. The breakfast buffet was equally ok, but not great. Fat free (boring) yoghurt, chewy sausages, and pre-cooked (I think) bacon. Rarely have I ordered a burger and the response from the waitress was 'yeah ok". I mean- when you're at McDonald's, you expect your burger to be cooked to an unspecified amount, and that's fine- but at a "bistro", you'd expect a little distinction. Hell- even Applebee's asks "some pink or no pink". Overall- waitress was unfriendly, unobservant, and overall distant. The hostess actually gave us our bill...and food. Near but not in my hotel, so I gave em a shot. Lobster shrimp roll was crunchy but bland. Salmon added to my salad was overcooked. Oka beer was the highlight of my meal. The lobby atmosphere felt a bit too open. Bar service was good though, I'd go someplace else to eat. read more

Yesterday was my second visit to Harold's Bistro and Bar. At first I was a little wary of hotel restaurant but I have decided I am a fan. The service is above average. The buffalo wings were good (not quite as nice as Cactus Clubs) but still very good. The fish and chips are great (I split an order with my wife and we were both very happy.) The beer is reasonably price (especially on Canucks Game Days;) 22 Oz glass of beer averaged about $7 dollars but on game day it was only $5! Not bad for the Lower Mainland. It's been a long time since I've been to Richmond. I once lived here but haven't been back in years. A few friends want to get together so that brought me to Harold's. Located between two hotel gave it lots of parking. Parking is free as long as you eat here. I started my dinner with the Calamari. This was below average. Spongy and soggy with no crispness to it. The Calamari alone would get 2 stars. I was hoping the Filet Mignon would make up for the bad appy. After all it is the king of steaks. Well... it look nice.. The steak was just grilled with no seasoning whatsoever. I know some of you will say that a great cut of steak doesn't need seasoning but this one did. Disappointing for $28. At the end I order there mud pie. This was their saving grace. The dessert was very tasty. Service overall was good even though we got ask to move from the restaurant to the lodge. Next time I'm in Richmond I may give Harold another chance but more then likely with all the restaurant in Richmond I will not. read more

A fun place where you go and don't take things seriously. From the waiters' outrageous t-shirts (check out their sayings with some creative twists on politically incorrect seafood fun, e.g. "suck me off.....the half shell) Their signature cocktail, a bloody Mary with a giant shrimp and horseradish was yummy. We got a feast of oysters on the half shell. For the most part tender but a lot of variance in the size. Some were a little tiny. The natural horseradish had a nice kick but the portion size for the number of oysters we had was a bit small. They really pushed the crusted halibut which was light and tender, albeit a bit of small portion. I like veggies to be crunchy but we found these to undercooked. Crunchy to a fault. The service was 'okay'. Friendly but in terms of ensuring everything was okay to refilling our water, that part was missing. Glad we went for the experience though. read more

Much has been written about the perceptions of a hotel bistro/bar, our family of three has been there twice over the last few months and have enjoyed the food and the service. In the summer, it was nice to be out in their garden and pool area; a respite from the Richmond traffic. The prices seemed reasonable and there was ample (pay) parking close by. It IS a hotel so the ambiance is not cutting edge but at least you can hear your conversations. read more
