Make sure you try the lobster bisque as it's one of the meatiest I've had to date; full of that shellfish flavour. The French onion soup is an eye catcher but the broth could use a bit more richness and flavour. Beef bourignon was suggested and I'm glad I took the friendly waitress' recommendation as it was a warm hug on a deep plate. I'd opt to swap for roasted potatoes instead of the mash but the mash does soak up all that delicious stew. The jambalaya is full of different proteins and if you're a fan of that, then I'd make sure to eat this perfectly cooked rice dish. I finished off with a banana bread pudding which was exactly that, banana bread in that bread pudding form; Personally I was hoping for bread pudding that was banana flavoured but it was still ooey gooey goodness. Burgoo should be packed to the brim with this menu for these prices and the friendliness of the staff!

We must like it, we even bought their cookbook to try some of the recipes, especially the Fondumental, which dragged us back there again and again. It wasn't nearly as plentiful or as yummy as we remembered it, but it's still good. The sandwiches and soups have always been rib sticking and tasty. The ambiance has remained the same over the years, a little dark, but the fireplace and the vintage posters are cool. Our server Gary was excellent, Johnny on the spot with all that we were looking for. Their wine and beer is all local, which is a thing these days. My lobster bisque with the FAB salad hit the spot, and the bread piece was exceptional. The lovely K had the onion soup which she liked although said it could use a little more salt. If you want to enjoy a hearty meal on the North Shore down by the water, but not on the water, give it a try, you will not be disappointed!

They updated their menu and now they have actually included the word cilantro in their description of the Avocado Toast. Wonder if it's because they read my previous review. Glad to see this revised menu. My mom had Chicken and Waffles, my daughter had the Babka French Toast, and I had the Mushroom Toast. For drinks we had Hot Honey Lemon Water, Tiramisu Latte and Ferrero Rocher Latte. Loved the Mushroom Toast. The flavor of the Truffle oil really stood out to me in this dish. My daughter enjoyed the Babka Toast and ate the entire thing. I think she began to question her life choices later cuz it's a very large portion and she felt extremely full for the rest of the day. She enjoyed it enough though that she asksed if I would share it with her the next time we come here. Tiramisu Latte didn't actually taste very Tiramisu-ish. It had a Tiramisu look to it, but just tasted like a nice, sweet coffee drink. I took a sip of my daughter's Ferrero Rocher Latte. I think I enjoyed that one better. It had a chocolate, hazelnut layer set on the rim of the glass. This really did give it a sort of Ferrero Rocher taste.

It comes with this amazing fried I'm not sure what but it's great looking. Poached eggs too. - side of potatoes comes in a pan with aioli on top of each one. The aioli is fantastic. The potatoes crunchy and flavourful but not too fried at all. - ok the highlight for me is the KFC fusion Dutch baby. I've never heard of a dish like this before. The classic Dutch baby pancake with Korean ingredients - gochujang flavoured KFC, kimchi, veggies, an egg in the middle bibimbap style. The chicken is good although the sauce a bit uneven - some extra spicy hot spots. The ingredients come together really well and the Dutch baby is fantastic. I'll be coming back for sure!!!

I ordered an individual size Baja Nomad Nachos. I also ordered a Virgin Witch's Rock drink. We also used up a few coupons that we had for free tacos and ordered Ancho Chicken Taco, Grilled Basa Fish Taco, and Garden Veggie Taco. Forgot to tell the server "no cilantro" so ummm...food wasn't quite as good as usual but I'm not deducting points for that cuz that was our own mistake for forgetting to say "no cilantro." (Big sigh) It's such a pain though to have to keep on remembering to say that everywhere we go. Why don't restaurants realize that not everyone likes cilantro and make it a policy to bring it up with customers? Why don't they remind the customers that there's cilantro in a dish and then ask if the customer is OK with it? Anyone reading this right now is probably thinking I should just get over it and deal with it. I'm really just venting I suppose. The cilantro problem is just hugely annoying for both my daughter and I.

Lots of Benedict's so I naturally had to have one. The good - the meats are really good especially the pulled pork. Very tender and flavourful. The bacon is decent. I just had an Original Gimbap and a Vege Gimbap for myself. It was a hot summer's day so I just didn't feel like ordering hot food. Everyone else ordered hot food though. My daughter has been getting into Tonkatsu at Japanese restaurants for awhile now. So when she saw Chicken Katsu on the menu here, she decided to give that a try. It was just OK for her. No comparison to any of the pork Tonkatsu dishes that she's been having at Japanese restaurants. She still ate it all up though and it was a huge portion. Other dishes on the table included Seafood Noodles, Pork Kimchi Stew, Soft Tofu Stew, Fried Chicken, and Kimchi Fried Rice. My one gripe would be that they took a super long time bringing out my daughter's Chicken Katsu. Everyone else had their food for quite awhile but she sat waiting and waiting for her Chicken Katsu. When we asked about it, they said it was coming soon. But that's what they always say when you ask about something that's taking a long time to come, right? Wondering if they actually completely forgot about it and then put in a rush order at the kitchen when we brought it up.

It's over fire on a hotplate/pan with the meat all around and kimchi in the middle. Perfect with rice or on it's on. The Japchae had plenty of beef and veggies. The potato noodles weren't overcooked and was a great consistency. The seafood tofu soup was favorful with clams and mussels. The raw beef was too frozen and needed to sit out longer. However, the flavor was still good, but I don't know if I'd order it again. The service was excellent and attentive.

It's bright and airy, even on a rainy nasty day on the West Coast. The decor is awesome in our mind, very diner driven and classy. The glass into the kitchen itself offers a glimpse into the line cook life. The service was top notch, the space is clean and tables are turned with precision. Nothing to quibble with overall, but the food itself was just average, and just that alone is not where a small place like this should be. The hash browns were bordering on overdone and were not plentiful. One piece of toast is always a pet peeve of mine, though the multigrain was good. The Romesco really had little taste and was almost a little dry. I had trouble speeding it around and ended up eating most of it in one bite, which I am sure is not the ideal scenario. K had the grilled cheese sandwich with onions. The fries were great but the sandwich was lacking in cheese and onions which isn't ideal. We also had three go arounds with our English Breakfast tea and the cream curdling once added. The date on the cream was far in advance and the cream was cold, so not sure what the issue was. I actually asked specifically for milk when ordering, so it didn't excite me to have this happen. They finally brought milk with the third tea try, K used it, I didn't bother. Small thing, but I like my tea while waiting for my meal, not with it or halfway through it. That all said, everyone was happy, seemed to enjoy the food and service and there appear to be alot of locals. We will certainly give the Douce another go, and hope that it's a far better experience.
