Gosh we so wanted to give this local diner a top mark, but unfortunately, on this visit, we cannot. We'll be back for sure because the reviews are just too good to not give Douce another go. It's bright and airy, even on a rainy nasty day on the West Coast. The decor is awesome in our mind, very diner driven and classy. The glass into the kitchen itself offers a glimpse into the line cook life. The service was top notch, the space is clean and tables are turned with precision. Nothing to quibble with overall, but the food itself was just average, and just that alone is not where a small place like this should be. The hash browns were bordering on overdone and were not plentiful. One piece of toast is always a pet peeve of mine, though the multigrain was good. The Romesco really had little taste and was almost a little dry. I had trouble speeding it around and ended up eating most of it in one bite, which I am sure is not the ideal scenario. K had the grilled cheese sandwich with onions. The fries were great but the sandwich was lacking in cheese and onions which isn't ideal. We also had three go arounds with our English Breakfast tea and the cream curdling once added. The date on the cream was far in advance and the cream was cold, so not sure what the issue was. I actually asked specifically for milk when ordering, so it didn't excite me to have this happen. They finally brought milk with the third tea try, K used it, I didn't bother. Small thing, but I like my tea while waiting for my meal, not with it or halfway through it. That all said, everyone was happy, seemed to enjoy the food and service and there appear to be alot of locals. We will certainly give the Douce another go, and hope that it's a far better experience. read more

This hidden gem in North Van serves classic diner dishes and comfort food all made from scratch. There were nostalgic vibes and service was amazing. The portions are huge and every dish is made with quality ingredients. French onion grilled cheese with shoestring fries: I got a nice cheese pull out of this, it satisfied all my cheesy cravings. It came with a generous amount of fries. Denver-ish breakfast bowl: order this if you want a nice variety for breakfast. I added avocado and it was so satisfying. Bacon eggs benny on housemade buttermilk biscuits with hashbrowns: fresh hollandaise over perfectly cooked eggs. The buttermilk biscuit is so much better than an English muffin. I absolutely loved the shredded hashbrowns. Strawberry milkshake: you need to try their hand spun milkshakes! Topped with whipped cream and sprinkles, I felt like a kid again. read more

Finally made it back here. Unfortunately, not as great an experience as last time. Food was still great. My daughter and I both ordered the Avocado Toast with vegan cheese on it. Other orders on the table included a Breakfast Sammy and the Brioche French Toast. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes to get a table. Then once we ordered our food, we waited an eternity for our food to finally be served. My niece gobbled her French Toast and then went to sit in the car as our 1 hour parking had expired. Love the food and the retro decor but didn't care for the excessive waiting. I think we must have come on a weekday last time. I was very close to saying that I wouldn't bother coming back again but upon further reflection, I might give it another try, but just make sure that it's a weekday and not a weekend. This visit was shortly before noon on a Saturday so...definitely a busy time. read more

Stopped by after wife's hair apt. Greeted fairly quickly and seated. The diner had a nice diner feel to it with the table/restaurant layout. Servers were very friendly and attentive. Absolutely makes the visit more pleasurable right away. I ordered chicken and waffles, the chicken was a cutlet style and served with white sausage gravy. I personally think the chicken/waffle combo with syrup is good enough but if you like sausage gravy go at it. They were all tasty. Wife ordered French toast, which was very large and fluffy. They pulled out all the stops to make this diner feel right. Nothing fancy but clean and fresh. The food was great. I had the Reuben Sammie with fries It was messy and plentiful and a Chocolate milkshake. (Only missed the Aluminum container on the side with the dregs) The two servers worked in tandem and really supported each other. I love to see that! read more

We stopped for breakfast at Douce Diner on our way to Lynn Canyon. Parking was pleasantly easy to find on the street nearby. The breakfast was great. We had the "Breakfast Sammy" and "Green Shakshuka". Both dishes were super fresh and super tasted great. We would definitely visit again and try more from the menu. Incredibly friendly staff as well. I came for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. There was plenty of street parking nearby. Our party waited less than 30 minutes for a table. The diner itself was clean and inviting. Ruben Sandwich is on sourdough not rye. Corned beef itself was under seasoned but cooked well. Overall sandwich is on the dry side. Fries were good, not great. On the positive wasn't greasy and it was generous. Bottomless coffee came in a small cup and barely 70%full, very cumbersome to ask for refills. Drip coffee itself was flavourless. I would say it is milder than most coffee in a regular office would serve. Ambiance was like Archie and Friends (comic book), the booth/seating were very tight. Parking can be difficult as there isn't pay parking, however there are parking maids circling as this is considering an industrial area and they will ticket. read more

I nice find on the North Shore. This place has character, nice genuine staff, and a feeling of a small, but savvy, locally owned business. It is also in a cool spot for when you just want to go somewhere new. The food was good, I had a traditional breakfast. As a generally cheap person I still scoff at the prices of breakfasts (everywhere) these days and I would have gone 5 stars if it were just a bit bigger, or a bit cheaper, but I'll be back and happily so. We haven't gone out for brunch in ages but after a rainy hike, we decided to check out Douce Diner. They're located a stone throw's away from Afra Bakery. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 1:30pm) and had to wait about 30 minutes for a table to open up. Service was friendly and our waitress was very accommodating. The inside is cute with a modern diner vibe but they also have 4-5 tables outside (that's sheltered from the elements). Menu is split into breaky, greens & bowls, sammy's & toast and desserts. The hand spun milk shakes ($7.50) was a very popular order. They brought out ketchup and their hot sauce (very mild) to the table. - Country ham eggs benny ($17.75) - hash browns were nicely seasoned. Eggs benny was well executed; runny yolk, liked how the ham was thinly sliced, hollandaise wasn't too rich and the biscuit brought everything together. - 2x Double Douce burger ($18.00) - both added a gluten free bun ($1.25 extra). N opted for the organic greens while B went with the shoestring fries. Bun was nicely toasted. Hands down the best fried chicken sandwich. This is my go-to every time I come here because the chicken is crispy and the flavour is so good - honey mustard with pickle dressing. I opt for a gluten friendly bun as I am gluten sensitive and the bun is light and tasty too. I've been to Douce Diner twice now, and I can confidently say that the phenomenal experience I had the first time wasn't a fluke. First off, I love the space. The fun wallpaper, metal diner stools, and extended painted patio space are an absolute vibe. The colours are bright and add to the lively atmosphere. I also really appreciate the attentive but not overbearing service--both times, we had friendly and helpful servers who put us right at ease. The eggs Benedict is one of the best I've had in the Lower Mainland. Hollandaise sauce is creamy without being heavy, eggs are perfectly poached, and I love the replacement of the traditional English muffin with biscuits. The French toast, which is only served on weekends, is also incredible! I love the challah loaf they use for the bread, and the lemon curd adds a nice zing. The only suggestion my sister made was to make the distinction between the ketchup and hot sauce bottles a little more obvious (a lesson she learned the hard way...). Prices are on average $1-2 cheaper than the classic downtown Vancouver brunch spots. So although the price point isn't wildly different, I like the taste and atmosphere enough to make the trip to North Van. I will definitely be recommending Douce Diner to all my friends as my new go-to brunch place! read more

I love douce diner! The atmosphere is wonderful; the decor is very 80's diner style with black and white tiles and light blue accents. The servers all seem to help each other out and they've been lovely every time! I always switch my order but recently we have the breakfast Sammy and the omelette. The omelette is to die for! Boursin cream cheese with herbs inside makes it my favourite dish thus far. The toast is also amazing. Only downside is they are always busy, so definitely go early or be prepared to wait! read more

Holy cow, this place absolutely slaps. The food is perfect. My smoked salmon eggs benedict was delicious - the most perfect cook on the soft egg - a warm velvet yolk. The salmon was delicious, a sprinkling of what looked like paprika, and the biscuits underneath were to die for. I'll be returning for this dish. I tried the caramelized French onion grilled cheese, stole a bite from my sister... will return to order that next time. Spectacular as well. The fries were beautifully seasoned too. This place is awesome! We stopped here on our way to visit the Capilano bridge. The food was awesome, I would recommend the eggs Benny because the biscuit is so good. The waitress was so sweet and gave us advice about the best dishes and her faves. The staff also refilled our water and coffee often. I was in the area and decided to buy take out for lunch. I ordered the French Onion Grilled Cheese Sandwich with a salad ($15.50). You have to place the order in person, online with a food delivery app or online with their website. They do not take orders on the phone. My order was ready for pick up in 30 minutes. I forgot to ask if there was a fork included during pick up. When I got around to eating my lunch, I had no cutlery to eat my salad. The sandwich was really tasty. The cheese and caramelized onions combination was great. The salad had a good tangy dressing. The pickles had a nice sour kick. I found the salad portion size to be small. Wow can't express the kindness and flavourful flare this place has. I couldn't get the full experience but I will come back after the pandemic. Wonderfully juicy, extremely tender and flavourful; The chicken batter is crisp and light and it's paired with savoury gravy and biscuits.
