What a cute Korean bistro! The food is based on Korean dish but featured some Japanese/Chinese. Maybe 70% of customers are Korean. There was a table of lots of kids and next to them, old men were drinking from a portable barrel on the table. Very interesting view, honestly. The atmosphere was great. Friendly service. Not too loud inside. There were some tables in the patio. We tried Bulkogi burger with garden salad, Nagasaki champon and deep fried shrimp wantan. The burger was so good. Lots of vegetables and fried onion ring inside. You need to press it down because it was like 12cm high. Champon was so huge and we shared to finish. I wish it had more seafood broth rather than vegetable broth. But tasted great and lots of seafood inside. Next time I want to try deep-fried oyster with original tartar. It was sold out last night :(

Friendly service and delicious food. Menu is quite small but perfect for people who might get easily overwhelmed with large menus. It was a quiet night when we came on a weekday evening but a few more tables filled up when we left. The bbq meat was very tasty and tender. I appreciate the bed of greens that was fresh and served a purpose (not just for garnish). The mild tofu soup was a little spicy for me, but flavour was on point.

The chicken was delicious-we got the half and half. Really liked the soy garlic sauce! The leftovers were still very good.

Make sure you try the lobster bisque as it's one of the meatiest I've had to date; full of that shellfish flavour. The French onion soup is an eye catcher but the broth could use a bit more richness and flavour. Beef bourignon was suggested and I'm glad I took the friendly waitress' recommendation as it was a warm hug on a deep plate. I'd opt to swap for roasted potatoes instead of the mash but the mash does soak up all that delicious stew. The jambalaya is full of different proteins and if you're a fan of that, then I'd make sure to eat this perfectly cooked rice dish. I finished off with a banana bread pudding which was exactly that, banana bread in that bread pudding form; Personally I was hoping for bread pudding that was banana flavoured but it was still ooey gooey goodness. Burgoo should be packed to the brim with this menu for these prices and the friendliness of the staff!

We must like it, we even bought their cookbook to try some of the recipes, especially the Fondumental, which dragged us back there again and again. It wasn't nearly as plentiful or as yummy as we remembered it, but it's still good. The sandwiches and soups have always been rib sticking and tasty. The ambiance has remained the same over the years, a little dark, but the fireplace and the vintage posters are cool. Our server Gary was excellent, Johnny on the spot with all that we were looking for. Their wine and beer is all local, which is a thing these days. My lobster bisque with the FAB salad hit the spot, and the bread piece was exceptional. The lovely K had the onion soup which she liked although said it could use a little more salt. If you want to enjoy a hearty meal on the North Shore down by the water, but not on the water, give it a try, you will not be disappointed!

They updated their menu and now they have actually included the word cilantro in their description of the Avocado Toast. Wonder if it's because they read my previous review. Glad to see this revised menu. My mom had Chicken and Waffles, my daughter had the Babka French Toast, and I had the Mushroom Toast. For drinks we had Hot Honey Lemon Water, Tiramisu Latte and Ferrero Rocher Latte. Loved the Mushroom Toast. The flavor of the Truffle oil really stood out to me in this dish. My daughter enjoyed the Babka Toast and ate the entire thing. I think she began to question her life choices later cuz it's a very large portion and she felt extremely full for the rest of the day. She enjoyed it enough though that she asksed if I would share it with her the next time we come here. Tiramisu Latte didn't actually taste very Tiramisu-ish. It had a Tiramisu look to it, but just tasted like a nice, sweet coffee drink. I took a sip of my daughter's Ferrero Rocher Latte. I think I enjoyed that one better. It had a chocolate, hazelnut layer set on the rim of the glass. This really did give it a sort of Ferrero Rocher taste.

The classic Dutch baby pancake with Korean ingredients - gochujang flavoured KFC, kimchi, veggies, an egg in the middle bibimbap style. The chicken is good although the sauce a bit uneven - some extra spicy hot spots. The ingredients come together really well and the Dutch baby is fantastic. I'll be coming back for sure!!!

Forgot to tell the server "no cilantro" so ummm...food wasn't quite as good as usual but I'm not deducting points for that cuz that was our own mistake for forgetting to say "no cilantro." (Big sigh) It's such a pain though to have to keep on remembering to say that everywhere we go. Why don't restaurants realize that not everyone likes cilantro and make it a policy to bring it up with customers? Why don't they remind the customers that there's cilantro in a dish and then ask if the customer is OK with it? Anyone reading this right now is probably thinking I should just get over it and deal with it. I'm really just venting I suppose. The cilantro problem is just hugely annoying for both my daughter and I.

Gosh we so wanted to give this local diner a top mark, but unfortunately, on this visit, we cannot…read more We'll be back for sure because the reviews are just too good to not give Douce another go. It's bright and airy, even on a rainy nasty day on the West Coast. The decor is awesome in our mind, very diner driven and classy. The glass into the kitchen itself offers a glimpse into the line cook life. The service was top notch, the space is clean and tables are turned with precision. Nothing to quibble with overall, but the food itself was just average, and just that alone is not where a small place like this should be. The hash browns were bordering on overdone and were not plentiful. One piece of toast is always a pet peeve of mine, though the multigrain was good. The Romesco really had little taste and was almost a little dry. I had trouble speeding it around and ended up eating most of it in one bite, which I am sure is not the ideal scenario. K had the grilled cheese sandwich with onions. The fries were great but the sandwich was lacking in cheese and onions which isn't ideal. We also had three go arounds with our English Breakfast tea and the cream curdling once added. The date on the cream was far in advance and the cream was cold, so not sure what the issue was. I actually asked specifically for milk when ordering, so it didn't excite me to have this happen. They finally brought milk with the third tea try, K used it, I didn't bother. Small thing, but I like my tea while waiting for my meal, not with it or halfway through it. That all said, everyone was happy, seemed to enjoy the food and service and there appear to be alot of locals. We will certainly give the Douce another go, and hope that it's a far better experience.

Bacon eggs benny on housemade buttermilk biscuits with hashbrowns: fresh hollandaise over perfectly cooked eggs. The buttermilk biscuit is so much better than an English muffin. We were quite hungry, and asked for advice regarding sizes, and were advised to order the following for 2: -Pork Tang Su Yuk (Large: 39.00$): Comes served with a thick, syrupy, sweet and sour sauce on the side. The sauce contains some fresh produce such as cabbage and onions, which is quite nice and refreshing, and cuts through the sauce, providing a different flavour in addition to the fried umami of the pork. I appreciate that the sauce comes served on the side, because I like my food CrUnCHy -Ja Jang Myun (Regular: 13.50$): It was tasty, very onion forward (which I LOVE). My only comment was that I was expecting the sauce to have little pieces of pork in it, and I personally did not detect any, which translated to a bit of a superfluous sauce. Afterwards I checked the menu, and it does say that there is minced pork in the sauce, so I'm not sure... This was more than enough food for 2 people (we got leftovers to take home), and I think the perfect amount of food for 3. I appreciate good portion sizes. Additionally, they served yellow radish, and kimchi radish cubes with it, and had vinegar, soy sauce, and red pepper powder at every table. The server was kind, the vibes were quaint, family-owned, "mom and pop" hole in the wall, and the food was tasty and reasonably priced.

I was pretty sure that my daughter would jump at the chance to have Omurice and I was absolutely right about it! I'm not sure if they normally use any kind of meat or meat broth in their Omurice. It's not listed on the menu, so I inquired about making the dish Vegetarian. The waitress asked if I was OK with egg. Seems like a lot of people don't really understand the difference between vegetarian and vegan. If I were asking for a vegan dish...well there's just no way I could eat the dish as the egg is the "Omu" part of the dish and therefore the main attraction. I got the point across though that I just didn't want any chunks of meat or meat broth used in the dish. (It was my daughter's dish mainly but I wanted to try it, and she's fine with eating vegetarian foods even though she does still eat meat.) It was a really yummy Omurice and I think we may have just found a new favourite of ours on the North Shore! I ordered the same vegetarian Jab Chae Rice that I ordered last time and it was just as good as I remembered it. It really puzzles me though that this dish is listed under the Rice section. It does come with a bowl of white rice but it's a freakin huge platter of noodles and the noodles are really the main star of the dish...not the rice! Grandma ordered the Sam Sun Stir Fried Rice which is supposed to be a Seafood fried rice with vegetables and pork in black bean sauce, topped with a fried egg. She wasn't too impressed with this dish and honestly...I guess I can't really blame her for it. In my last review I wrote that you can't really go wrong with any dish on this menu. I take that back now. I think this is probably the first dish we've tried here that was less than stellar. There was a lot of rice in the dish, and barely any seafood in the rice. The black bean sauce was...nothing to write home about? Other than the underwhelming Sam Sun Stir Fried Rice though, I still give this place a thumbs up and would still highly recommend coming here. Lots of restaurants have hit and miss dishes. This place still serves some great food overall.
