I had high hopes for this place, but it was just average. I ordered the chicken, which was the best part of my meal because it was actually moist and tender. Also ordered the collard greens, cornbread, and Mac and cheese. Mac and cheese was okay and the cornbread was decent, but tasted like it had been hanging out in the refrigerator. In the same parking lot as Safeway, this place is delicious!!! The woman behind the counter was personable, kind, and very customer-service oriented. We had a great experience overall and the food was delicious. Of note, the hours are limited, and they close when they sell out. Brisket is not listed on the chalkboard menu, but it is available on Saturdays, so just ask for it. The sauces are delicious and the dessert is amazing. Snowy day in Denver. Someone in the office mentions BBQ and a few seconds later Bite Squad sends me a coupon for free delivery from Ragin Hog. It was fate. While I had leftovers from the day before and even brought an additional lunch, it's probably been at least a year since I've sank my teeth into tender, smokey ribs. I'm sure most would agree it's hard to find good BBQ in Denver especially ribs, but after reading the Yelp reviews and feeling a bit sponteous, I decided a salad wasn't going to suffice. They do deliver, but only in their hood. Thank God for Bite Squad and their free delivery coupon! While delivery time was estimated to be two hours it showed up in 1 hour. Pretty amazing! The ribs were perfect. Smokey, tender and juicy. The only cons were the sides. I believe I'm an expert at mac n cheese so I might be a tough critic. I liked that they added red pepper, gave it a little punch, but the cheese sauce was watery. It may have also been due to condensation from the warms ribs. The potato salad was very tasty but had very few potatoes. I have a feeling maybe I got the bottom of the bowl. So I would give the ribs 5 starts and sides 3 1/2. All things considered lunch today exceeded my expectations and I got to stay inside, warm and cozy! read more

UPDATE!!!! We have been raving about this place to friends and after a couple of unsuccessful attempts, we finally made it back! The owner remembered the boyfriend and I. She thanked us for coming back and was just as awesome as last time. She is just the nicest lady. Another group came in and asked for 3 buns with their order, and she just gave them 4 "just in case". Super thoughtful and truly cares about her customers. I got pulled pork and ribs with mac and cheese/potato salad. I got a velvet cookie this time. Just as yummy as last time. The boyfriend got the chicken and hot link with beans/coleslaw. It was so good! The chicken was so moist. I think I'll get that next time. She was running out of sweet tea and filled up the boyfriend's cup about 3/4 of the way. She was apologetic and told us we could order whatever to drink after because it wasn't a full cup. Like I have said many times before and will say again: She is just the nicest lady. As usual, the portions were pretty huge. I had to take my ribs and some pulled pork home. I had them for breakfast the next day because I couldn't wait to eat them at lunch. Last time we came, she filled up a bag with all the sauces so we could try them and know which one we liked for next time. Honestly, I have to have a little bit of each on my pork and ribs. The sauces are that good. They are all different and cater to every palate. So even if I wanted to, I can't really pick "just one". I just can't. She thanked us again for coming back when we left. We saw a few groups of people come and go during our meal and each interaction she had with a person was just really genuine. People really like her and love her food. I never would have seen this place if it weren't for a yelp search for barbecue in the Highlands. With no visible signage from the street (the back of the building faces the street, and it's in a Safeway shopping center,) it's easy to miss, but once you find it you'll be back for more. The first time we visited, the kitchen was being renovated, and the place was packed. A very simple set-up - walk in, place your order, and hope there's a place to sit at one of half a dozen tables covered with checkerboard tablecloths. The owner/barbecue master is from Alabama, and she uses family recipes for her sauces. On this busy day that we visited, she was as cool as a cucumber and very hospitable. We ordered ribs, and they were true perfection. Meaty ribs, and a variety of sauces to choose - although the ribs stand on their own. I have to admit, I haven't tried any of the other meats because the ribs are so delicious. Get there early before she runs out for the day, and be sure you have cash on you! read more

Holy shit that was good! I ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs with baked beans, mac-n-cheese, and buttermilk pie. Everything was excellent. I prefer a little more bark on my ribs, but they were still very good. Nice and juicy. The sauces were some of the best, if not the best, I've ever had. They have 5 to choose from; sweet, hot, Memphis, Caroline, and Georgia, of which the later 2 were my favorite. SOOO GOOD! I really liked the Memphis and the "hot" too, which is no BS. Lots of heat. Fantastic sauces! I'm not a fan of sweet BBQ sauces so I didn't try the sweet sauce, but if the other 4 sauces are any indication I suspect the sweet is excellent too if that's what you like. The mac-n-cheese was great too. It wasn't overly cheesy and had a little bit of spice, which worked really well. It was a great compliment to the sauces. The baked beans were good. A bit sweet for my personal taste, but that's the way baked beans from the south are supposed to be. I had never tried buttermilk pie before, so I decided to give it a shot and was not disappointed. It was excellent! The place is small and clean with a very comfortable atmosphere and the owner was very friendly and personable. The food, atmosphere, and friendly, down-to-earth service reminds me of sitting down for lunch or dinner at my grandmothers house in the country when I was a kid. So awesome!! Great place! The only thing worth the stop in is the BBQ sauce options. That's literally it. Saturday afternoon my family and I stop in for a meal. The woman working the counter was not friendly and was trying her hardest not to help or provide information. We asked for her recommendation on a large order for 6 people. She told us they have family packs but they are "to go" only. We asked if would could eat at the location (completely empty) and she reluctantly agreed. The food was not great. We ordered the chicken, sausage, and brisket - all dry and lacked flavor. The sausage tasted like grocery store pre-cooked meat. The sides we ordered were green beans that had a weird white film on the outside and had an off putting sweet taste. The beans were edible but tasted like beans straight out of the can. The most disappointing part of this visit was how we were treated as customers - in a very cold and distant way. I would not recommend dining at this establishment and think the owners/staff need to improve the guest experience. read more
