Every so often you come across a place that makes you pinch yourself in disbelief, THIS is that place. Okay, so the pork/brisket sandwich, amazing. The potato salad, best I've ever had. Green chili, top 2 in a city I've spent my life in eating green chili. Ribs and sauce, magnificent. Everything here has the ability to stand on its own and stake a claim as the best. The customer service is outstanding too. As friendly as it gets. They'd get a 6th star if I could give one because they earned that extra star for customer service. The ribs, just won me over. A huge helping of falling-off-the-bone-no-bbq-sauce-necessary ribs. My heart was broken when I found out he was sold out of the brisket. A quick chat with J and we realized there's no knowing when he'll be there, when he'll be completely sold out and gone home, or when one day brisket will be sold out in the blink of an eye, while the next day it's the pulled pork that's gone. Each of the three times, i have brought a different person with me, and have came away saying the same thing. This is quite possibly the best BBQ in Colorado. Now, you have to be willing to eat outside, possibly on the back of your truck bed or trunk of your car, and not care about how you are dressed. The second is because Smokey J's is a truck, and is hanging out in a dirt parking lot. Having said that, my most recent excursion there was on a day that it was 44 degrees out and the ground was damp from rain...I regret nothing. Now the real reason you are reading this review, their food! It's perfect. Their brisket is both juicy and smokey, you immediately know that the cow you are eating sacrificed itself for a good cause. Their mac and cheese is a must order, you will be incomplete without it. Their Ribs are fall off the bone tender and seasoned in such a way you will wish all ribs were done this way. Their pulled pork is tender, juicy, and full of flavor. All in all, you won't be even remotely disappointed you made spent the calories and money on this, and despite the fact they give incredibly generous portions for the price you pay (2 sides and 2 meats for $11. Nobody can dispute this to be a good deal) you will find that you have nothing left to take home despite saying to yourself "I think i'll save some for later," when you see how much you get. Now, if you're still reading at this point and haven't already decided to eat here, I don't know what else to tell you. Ok, I grew up with great Q in Murphysboro IL. ( Carolina style, not Texas brisket ) I just came thru Central City CO for a BBQ and Blues Festival and had a fantastic pulled pork sandwich from their mobile truck. Sauces tasted great and so did the sides.I would totally look for them again; I travel a lot and get to sample a lot of Q, this ranks right up there with some of the best I've had. Yes! This place is so good! I got the 2 meat/2 sides combo ($11). As others said, generous portions indeed! Ribs and Brisket were tender, great smokey flavor! I ended up going with the Baked Beans and Potato Salad. The baked beans were good, sweet and well cooked, nothing out of ordinary. The Potato Salad was awesome. It had ham, and maybe chicken? I don't know. I realized I ate it all before inspecting what was in it. This place has won a spot in my weekly rotation of lunch spots. And in case its not apparent from the pictures or other reviews, its a food trailer/truck. They have some seating that they setup, but not a lot (12 people or so?). Ok, so you see a BBQ place in Colorado with a decent number of reviews and a 5star rating. You immediately start to rationalize it by saying, well it's probably a local place and because it's convenient they round up, or maybe they haven't had 'real' BBQ......... Well you would be wasting your time, because Smoking J's is easily the best retail BBQ joint I've had in Colorado, and stacks up to a lot of the Q I've had in Memphis and Texas Jerry is extremely personable and is willing to make mods if possible. The brisket was smoked perfectly as well as the pulled pork I sampled. Great variety of sauces and sides as well, highly recommend. Never in one spot long this is not a typical BBQ place, it could be in two different cities in one day, so be aware and enjoy! read more

Texas "Style" Brisket? Not quite. Moist enough but tough and NO SMOKE FLAVOR & NO BEEF FLAVOR. "Texas Style Brisket" was only long, pull style chop. No slices or burnt ends. Felt more like eating tough pulled pork. Texas Brisket should be slightly oily and melt I your mouth. Not make you chew hard to get through it. The guys working the truck had no knowledge of the beef cut or cook process, and would not do samples. Wish I had tried the smoked wings sausage. Couldn't so to me the truck had no Smokey, no J and no flavor. Sides: Cole Slaw was OK, but h Mac and Cheese also had no flavor. read more

A dining companion and I braved terrible, windy weather and sat at the dirty outdoor table to eat this scrumptious barbecue, served by a friendly one man show operator. Both the brisket and pork were great with a solid value for the portion size. The green chili was also pretty good but it was somewhat of a strange mix with the barbecued meat. My only regret is that there are but 5 stars to give! Jerry catered our wedding in the mountains, and we cannot say enough nice things about him. To begin with his service was outstanding. To say he was accommodating would be a gross understatement. From the beginning he was very receptive to what we were looking for, ensuring that we had plenty of food for all of our guests. As an example of his exemplary service was his willingness to modify several of his offerings to accommodate several food allergies. He hauled his rig up to a rather remote location and diligently spent the entire night before preparing his delicious fare! His service was second only to his food....wow! Seriously people, wow!! The ability to serve that much food of that high quality, nothing short of amazing. The ribs are absolutely incredible, the sausages were a huge hit, and he made remarkable BBQ shrimp. And it didn't stop at the BBQ alone, his side dishes were the perfect compliment! We would offer our highest recommendation to Smokey J's! We had the pleasure of tasting Smokey J's at a graduation party yesterday. Yes, they cater and will bring the smoker to your event. This was probably some of the very best smoked meats I have ever eaten. The pulled pork was amazing. The chicken wings and beef rib roast..yummy. My favorite was the smoked shrimp. Not sure if they have it on their regular menu but wow. Lightly smoked and cooked to perfection. All the sides were delish as well. Everything is smoked to perfection, and he doesn't try to screw you on portions either. Also, just $10 for a pound of delicious brisket! First, if you're looking for this place they're at Cannonball Creek every other Thursday, which is where we had them. Check Cannonball's facebook page for the food truck schedule. Also, they're no longer set up at their S. Golden Rd location during weekdays as they're mainly focused on catering private events now. We had their wings, ribs, & pulled pork with slaw & mac 'n cheese for sides. This places blows away anything else I've found near Denver. Both the ribs and wings came out with a nice crispy skin, while the meat was still very tender and had a good smokey flavor. The pork was solid as well. The portions were quite generous and the prices very reasonable. My only complaint is the buns the pulled pork came on were mediocre, but with how good everything else way, that hardly mattered. I've been to Smokey J's several times before writing this review. I can honestly say that this food truck has some of the best bbq I've ever had. As I write this review, I'm sitting here in Texas wondering why most of the bbq here can't be half as good as the bbq at Jerry's. Having been visiting Houston and Austin for the past six months, I can definitely say that Jerry's brisket is to die for. With Austin being surrounded by food trucks, I can definitely say that none of them are as tasty as Jerry's food truck sitting on the side of S. Golden Rd. During my time in Texas, I've also been judging bbq at different cook-offs. Jerry could definitely take his brisket and compete with the best of them down here in Texas. If you're looking for a good bbq meal, you'll definitely find it at Jerry's. Also, I have to say that Jerry is one of the friendliest guys you'll meet.
