The food here was okay! We ordered the beignets which were very fluffy and sugary which were delectable. By the far the best part of the whole meal. We also got the fried pickles which were okay- particularly if you like thicker fried pickles. The country breakfast I didn't enjoy as much- the cornbread was pretty bland and I found the Hashbrowns be a little off putting. Other items such as the Mac and cheese I did not enjoy at all. A large variety of experiences! I very much enjoyed the inside ambiance and the variety of salt and pepper shakers used to decorate. The service was a bit slow and had to ask multiple times for things occasionally. Overall, I would say a fine spot to go to brunch but wouldn't drive out of my way to go to again

It took me way too long to finally try Sassafras, and I'm so glad I did. The atmosphere is adorable -- it feels like stepping into a cozy cottage with a Southern hospitality vibe. The space is charming and there's plenty of seating, which makes it a great brunch spot to meet friends. The menu is very creative and full of fun Southern-inspired dishes. They also have great coffee drinks and brunch cocktails. I ordered the fried green tomato eggs Benedict and it was incredibly delicious. The flavors were perfectly balanced -- the crispy fried green tomato with the rich hollandaise, peppery arugula, and creamy goat cheese all worked so well together. Such a unique and memorable brunch dish. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu.
The food here is unreal. The shrimp and grits are to die for. The restaurant itself is in the cutest building - I think it might be a converted house. It makes it feel homey! Our waitress was also so nice and gave us recommendations and even added a fried egg to the shrimp & grits for my friend's birthday!
As a girl from the south, I am always a little skeptical when I see a menu boasting southern cuisine. This was a pleasant surprise! The food was good, I enjoyed the breakfast poboy. I will say the gravy was a little too salty for my taste. I got a side of pimento cheese to go on my sandwich and that really was a delish pairing. Our server was incredibly friendly. I will def be back soon to try more of the menu!
Very cute boutique vibe restaurant with cute tabling space upstairs too. We were very fortunate to have seated upstairs. A bit tight space but super adorable dining experience. We tried blue butterfly bloom and snickersdoodles latte for drinks to start our brunch and bison hash & chicken fried eggs and shrimp & grits for our brunch. It was pretty delicious and service was pretty good.

This place was super cute! It reminds me of eating at my grandma's house. I like the decor and the vibes here. The service here was also super good! It was quick and super friendly. The food was also good! The only thing is that its on the more expensive side. Everything was pretty yummy, the fried pickles were super tart with a strong pickle flavor. The bison hash was interesting, but the texture was not the best in my opinion. The green tomatoe benedict was good too!
This is a great place for brunch. Menu items were very creative. Fried green tomatoes eggs benedict. Crabcake eggs benedict with blackened shrimp. Lavander latte. Homemade sausage. Fresh made biegnets. All great. Service was friendly and attentive.
Wow wow wow!! Amazing food! Amazing atmosphere! Get there early because there is always a wait but it is sooooo worth it! If you go on a Sunday, there is a farmers market right out front that you can walk around while you wait. :) The stroganoff Mac and cheese is my favorite and you need to start off with the beignets
Sassafras is a cute brunch restaurant that is in an old home. The decor is very homey and warm with festive decorations. The wait staff were very friendly and gave great recommendations. I tried the fried green tomato's, crab Benedict, and chicken pimento biscuit. Everything was very tasty! I definitely recommend if you are in the mood for some Louisiana brunch.

Came in on Thursday mid morning and we got seated right away. The place definitely packs pretty fast though! The restaurant was very cute with both outdoor and indooe seating. I love the unique furniture, salt and pepper shakers and the cloth napkin for each cutleries. Ordered a huge array of food. The favorites are definitely the churro beignets and the truffle mac n cheese. The beignets were a great appetizer and dessert! The sweetness were a perfect level. The flavor of the goat cheese with the arugula with al dente noodles were amazing. The crab cake Benedict was good. I liked the crab cake but I dont think it needed the english muffin. It didnt add anything to the dish. I didnt care for the chicken fried steak. The breading was falling apart and the meat was pretty tough. I also didnt care for the chicken pimiento biscuit. I thought the pimiento was too sour and the biscuit was too dense. It had a big enough menu that there will be something for everyone! read more

This brunch stop was high quality! The margarita flight was our favorite! The tale of the pig margarita was made with mezcal and it was so smoky and delicious. I want to be so for real with you- the last time we were here a couple years ago we gushed over the food and everything about it. I was less impressed this time. I came with the same friend with a gluten allergy, who lives and dies by the online menu. The menu in front of us was different than the menu online, which threw us both for a loop. She managed, but you go through the effort of reprinting menus, don't forget to post it online. I had the bison Benedict and the beignets. Both were nicely cooked and tasty, although the beignets had a ton of powdered sugar on them and were a bit messy. The bison was very tender. My friend didn't care for the sweet potato hash that came with the country breakfast, as it had sweetness added to it, and she prefers the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes. The interior is always cute, although this time we were in an interior room with a minimum of light. The decor was adorable as always though! Still enjoyed our time and the service and coffee was great! Might go back to our original menu items or try something new though read more
I go out of my way, to visit this place and I live in California. This has and likely always will be, my favorite breakfast place ever. The food is absolutely fantastic, southern creole / New Orleans style cooking to perfection. The staff is friendly, the vibes are amazing. You're always greeted with faces that seem to genuinely want to and care to ensure you have a great dining experience. Situated in two historic buildings/ homes, which are a historic landmark, this place has a level of charm, charism and character you just don't get with new construction. I will continue to go out of my way, to get out here just for this spot as often as possible. If you do anything while in Denver, make sure it's come here for the best breakfast or brunch of your life. read more

This place is really cute. We were able to be seated right away as a party of 3, and our server came right over to start assisting. I had the catfish and grits, everything was so well seasoned and tasty. I tried a piece of the crab benny and it was really good. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits but could only eat a few bites. They add some sort of vinegar that completely throws the taste off. Instead of taking it off our check, we got $4 off. Incredible food. This spot is so cute, it's an old house converted into a restaurant. Very quaint and a perfect brunch spot. They have a huge drink menu, with a great variety. I recommend the maple latte! I could tell our server was a bit overwhelmed, she had a lot of tables. Service was a bit slow, but understandable. We came here for breakfast and I loved it. The restaurant is in an old converted house. It is so nice inside. It has so much charm. We started out with the beignets and I had the seasonal drink which was the apple cider margarita. The beignets were really big. There are three of them and they are served with jam. They were very good. I decided to eat a little healthy and got the fruit and yogurt parfait. It came with strawberries green apple and pineapple for the fruit and granola and honey. It was very good. Plenty of fruit for me. We were seated downstairs and I went upstairs to use the bathroom. Bathroom is really cute and the rest of the upstairs has more seating and an outdoor patio. Service was great. I will be back for sure. So many good things on the menu! read more

We've had Sassafras bookmarked for a long while. We've attempted to come once before and the wait was crazy. Today, we came for brunch and in between busy times. FTW! Our "45 minute" wait wasn't nearly that long but as we waited, we enjoyed a brunch cocktail by their cozy fire. Not a bad way to wait. Because we were a smaller party of two, we were sat parallel to the big picture windows in the front. Perfect! We ordered fried green tomatoes to start and as I added some sugar to my Irish coffee, the small but meaningful details in the sugar dish made me smile. THIS is one of many reasons Sassafras is amazing. Check out the pic. No toxins added. The batter on the green tomatoes was perfect - golden, well seasoned and very very tasty. The dip was well seasoned also. What a great pairing. I loved my main dish as did he. I could have easily changed my mind three times and him too. There are so many scrumptious brunch options to choose from. We both left empty plates and said the same: incredibly well seasoned, no need to add salt or pepper to anything; well cooked and the flavors were popping. I usually prefer my dish to his when we share tastes but today, I was happy with him as much as mine. Yum. Other cool touches? Colorful napkins, colorful dishes and the best staff. Our waitstaff was a lovely woman: attentive, funny and really helpful. Man, I can't wait to return. So many dishes left to enjoy! read more

The staff there were so friendly which made us feel welcome. The food and service were okay though. I ended up ordering the fried green tomatoes and a small gumbo. The fried green tomatoes didn't seem hot hot and wondered if it sat there for a short time before serving. The remoulade sauce was delicious, I could eat that on everything. The gumbo was hot and tasty with plenty of chicken and sausage; great for a light lunch. The Sassafras Salad looked good and had a lot of greens and quality toppings. The Chicken Fried Steak was plentiful. The chicken fried egg was cooked perfectly on the Bison Hash dish. The corn bread was cold. I personally didn't like the cloth napkins as they didn't smell very clean and wasn't very absorbent. My mom asked for more gravy for her chicken fried steak (CFS) but received breakfast sausage gravy, which they charge $2 for. We didn't have a problem paying for it, but didn't think we had to specify CFS gravy because no one ordered any other dish that had white gravy. The air was a little stale since they open all the doors to accommodate those who sat on the patio. I got a little warm since the gumbo had a good kick to it. I do appreciate when restaurants have water pitchers/carafe for the table. My family are big water drinkers. The salt and pepper shakers are so cute and different on each table. Loved they take reservations on weekdays. The atmosphere was a home environment which gave it a uniqueness and made it a perfect neighborhood eatery. read more

Solid unassuming, southern brunch place in the heart of highlands. Service was friendly and the waiter was knowledgeable about the menu. Everything was solid, and I liked the beignets. Nothing was overly sweet or heavy for that matter. Extensive food and drink menu, interesting space that appears to have been a home at one point. On weekends expect to wait, in our case on a Saturday around 12pm we waited form 25 minutes for two people. Good spot. read more
Man, my friend and I enjoyed brunch here. So good, flavorful. The space seems like a repurposed home, so I couldn't tell how big the space was. But that was nice and I could only see 4 other tables around us. Our server was very patient as we asked about best sellers and specials -- everything sounded delicious. The restaurant was in an old house which was cool! The only complaint I had was that it was a little toasty, granted it was also in the middle of summer. I got the crab cake benedicts and it was super good and flavorful! The meal also comes with a couple of shrimps that come with a southern Cajun flavor that I loved! Finally! I've found my noble crust (my go to brunch place back home) and my husband and I are fans. This is a cute little restaurant that was made from an old house and it has that cozy feel. I luckily got to sit outside on a private porch for a nice brunch with my husband. We split the banana nut bread griddle and I thought the flavor was amazing and it paired well with the maple latte I got. I got their chicken and waffles with a side a grits. I am a Florida girl so I know what good grits are. Not the best I've had but good and creamy. The chicken and waffles were perfection! I am a huge fan and my husband agreed. His pork breakfast sandwich was equally good. Overall, we really loved this place and we will frequent it. read more
