Last night was a fantastic Phat Tuesday party. My second one at this establishment. Good times had by all. The staff literally worked their tails off and even the owner Henry wasn't too good to help them out. Serving food, making drinks etc.... Being that it was phat Tuesday you want to get your debauchery on so in turn it was very busy. Some customers got upset but the staff handled it well and did the best they could. read more

This is a great spot to visit! Josh was the BEST server I have ever had in my experience in dining, He was a real OG. I would love to have him serve us again. Josh get 10 stars out of 5. I'll check this spot out again, whenever I'm in town and want a taste of home. I love that the owner is born and raised in new orleans, he brings NOLA to Colorado on a serious tip. The owner was so nice and down to earth. Mr. Henry was very welcoming; he felt like family. My friend and I started with the boudin balls, which tasted more like salmon croquettes, which would have been amazing as croquettes, but as boudin balls, we did not taste rice much at all, and no sauce was served with them. I was desiring some Crawfish ettouffe and they were completely out of that, so i settle for the pasta monica with shrimp, which looked nice, but was way too salty to enjoy. I tried to push through but if I had continue to, it would have burned my tongue. The po boys was great 10/10 the fried catfish was 10/10. fries was 20/10 perfect crisp and softness fillings. hurricane drink was a nice strong & sweetness, a ball was drop when salt was rim vs sugar, but nonetheless it was close to the best. I really want to try that sold out crawfish ettouffe next time i'm here. Thank you Josh for gifting me the blueberry cake that was very sweet!!! I love Mr Henry homemade signature dessert. The neighborhood has some real character--yes, it can feel a little rough around the edges with music bumping from cars and locals hanging out--but honestly, it added to the authenticity. We parked safely, crossed the street to a nearby store, and felt completely fine. If anything, it gave us that raw, real NOLA energy we came looking for. Once inside, it's all good vibes. You immediately catch the smell of good Southern cooking and Mardi Gras spirit. The walls, the music, the decor--it screams New Orleans. The vibe lives up to the "Tavern" name in all the best ways. We went in with an appetite and weren't disappointed: * Fried Pickles - crispy, tangy, and fried to perfection * Fried Green Tomatoes - crunchy, fresh, and full of flavor * Fried Chicken Gizzards - definitely a hit with our group (if you know, you know) * Hush Puppies with Blackened Shrimp - bold seasoning and well balanced * Crawfish Étouffée - the crowd favorite! Creamy, flavorful, and comforting--tasted like it came straight out of someone's grandma's pot in Louisiana * Washed it all down with my favorite Abita hazy beer, which always hits the spot when I'm craving that New Orleans feel I do owe y'all an apology though--I was too into the food to snap any pics (rookie move, I know!). We came here on a recommendation and it lived up to its reputation. The tavern has a Mardi Gras festive feel, with a bar, few tables, and a pool table. Our waitress was so friendly and professional. Nola Voodoo is new & improved too, they've upgraded to a larger spot directly across the street :) the new spot is 3x bigger so it has way more tables & more seats at the bar... and it has more TVs plus two pool tables!! The pool table is nice & the TVs give it more of a sports bar or dive bar feel... and the food is even better bc they expanded their menu a little! Oh & I think a few more taps for beer too, and an expanded liquor selection. Love the new vibe. That really solid food was a lot like I had in New Orleans they were pretty spot on prices were reasonable crawfish was amazing.

We went to the Nola on a Wednesday for lunch. The staff is very friendly and upbeat especially Steve. I love the ambiance. Definitely a 70's vintage Creole vibe. We felt right at home. We had the Nola Sampler 3 + jumbalya. It has red beans and rice, gumbo and étouffée . We also had a shrimp po' boy that is out of this world. If I didn't know any better, I would think I was in the big easy. Come for the food, stay for the fun. read more

Yes, I did and yes, I do! I love this place. I went here as a celebratory dinner and will absolutely be back. They have bowl crawfish on the weekends for $20 a pound. I am blown away and amazed by this authentic Cajun Creole Denver gem. The moment I walked in I felt like I was back home in Louisiana. The vibe here is family and laid-back good times. Henry, the owner was very welcoming and his staff was genuinely interested in our experience. I absolutely loved the decor and the family style touches around the restaurant, including Henry's mother's gumbo recipe. We decided not to order an appetizer, but just jump right in and I got the trio of étouffée, gumbo and red beans and rice. For a little bit more I was able to add some jambalaya, which is the whole reason I wanted to go in the first place. Cory had the fried shrimp Poboy with french fries on the side. They have authentic sauces from Louisiana to go with Your meal. That was a super nice touch. Nothing was too spicy, but everything had perfect flavor. You could spice it up more with the sauces on the table if you'd like. And then we found out that it was one dollar wings night on Thursdays. The bartender gave us a great sampling of different sauces that they have to come with the wings. I love their barbecue sauce and their wing sauce. Everything was amazing and tasted like home. However, the gumbo was definitely my favorite. It had this rich smoky flavor and the sausage and the chicken was tender and not falling apart. It was amazing in every aspect. My second favorite would've had to have been the Poboy. The shrimp was perfectly fried and crispy on the outside and tender, plump shrimp on the inside with the perfect crispiness on the French bread. That bread is too live for! In town for the weekend from the East Coast and wanted to eat at Black Owned establishments. This spot was great! It is New Orleans ALL DAY! Bartenders Vivian & Drew were welcoming and representatives the place wonderfully. Gumbo was delicious and the fried green tomatoes were "hittin and holdin" (that is great). I had an Old Fashioned that well done. I will be back before I go home. Have to try other dishes. Oh, and the owner came in as well and I was able to speak to him. The owner, Henry, makes you feel like you're right at home and his crew is very attentive. This visit I had the Surf & Turf Po'Boy, it was fresh and delicious! The toasted bun was perfect! Paired it with a Copper Mule, mmm. Others in my group had the sampler Platter and the Catfish, there were no leftovers! Our usual Cajun spot closed. It had been some time since we'd gotten our Cajun fix. We found this spot based on Yelp reviews, which did not disappoint. It's a very cute establishment, that has a cozy and unassuming, neighborhood vibe. The food was delicious. We tried their sampler which had a nice variety of four of their dishes. The wife and I moved to Denver in May 2022 from New Orleans. Denver has several restaurants that claim to be "authentic", but NOLA VooDoo Tavern is the real deal. Brought some family members, including my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, who both know their way around a set of pots n pans. Not sure why I did without going first, as I was setting myself up for some sour faces. But NOLA VooDoo was the real deal. The owner (Henry) is a NOLA transplant who does it the right way. The red beans were creamy n well seasoned. The mother-in-law wanted a catfish poboy, but the concern when outside of Louisiana is "what is that bread gonna be like?" Well, the young man who waited on us brought out a sample of the bread for her approval. She got the catfish "fried hard" (if ya know, ya know), and it was on point. He is located in the historic Five Points area and also maintains a full bar. Good people who were regulars were sitting around cracking on each other. Just like home.
