This dinner started off on poorly and despite the dinner getting better as the food came out, it was overall a pretty "meh" experience for how well reviewed this place is. I will also say that we didn't feel like oysters at the time so maybe you will enjoy it more if you stick to that. We had a 630 reservation and arrived at 620. We were told they were waiting for the party at our table to wrap up, and since the bar was full we were asked to wait outside and they would come get us. In the next 20-25 minutes, we saw about 12 people leave and 10 people enter the restaurant (none of which came back out). I was a bit annoyed at that point so I went back in to check on our table. The host (different than the one who spoke to us first) told us our table was still eating dessert. So why were 4-5 other parties sat down before us? Anyway, we finally get seated and ordered the calamari, fish and chips, and market fish (branzino). The calamari was the worst I have ever had (no exaggeration). Well cooked calamari has a plump, springy texture. This calamari was dry, chewy, and thin. I feel like they microwaved the calamari and then battered and fried it or something. There also wasn't that much of it for the price tag. You would do better getting calamari at a typical chain like yard house or something. The peppers in the dish were the only thing we liked. The fish and chips were disappointing in that you only get 1 piece of fish and it was not seasoned at all. For $22 I feel like you should get 2-3 pieces. Batter was done well though and the fries were good. The branzino was the best dish. It was cooked really well and had a nice smoke and char. The fingerling potatoes were really good and the sweet peppers were cooked well but I think adding something with heat would have been better (jalapeno or serrano). They give you grated horseradish which is what I prefer, but it didn't have any bite, which usually happens when it is older. Overall disappointed with the experience. They never asked us how our food was so I didn't get a chance to tell them about the calamari. But that will live on in my memory forever as a clear example of how calamari should NOT be cooked. read more

We had a double date with my parents. My mom had a hankering for cod and chips. She enjoyed her meal, although she mentioned even though her meal looked like a huge piece of cod, it was pretty airy but still tasted good and wasn't too greasy. We also enjoyed the tuna tartare and wonton chips. The Scottish salmon was a little dry and I guess I'm just not a big fan of gnocchi. I'd probably try something else next time. We sat on the back patio with high chairs. It started to rain and the server offered to drop the waterproof shade but we liked the fresh air. The music was pretty loud so it was a little hard to hear. Seemed like a good date night spot. Parking was street. I think I'll give it another try but not anytime soon. read more

The best meal we had in on this Denver trip. I craving for some good delicious seafood and found this place while searching on Yelp. It had a lot of solid reviews so I had to give it a try. We can here on Saturday around 6:30 without reservations which I knew might have been a mistake but it turned out very while. Initially we had to wait an hour and 15 but actually wait time was about 35 minutes. They told us that they had community table with 2 seats open so we took it. Once we were seated our waitress Cleo was fantastic and friendly. She got our drinks order down and few minutes later our food orders. She was very attentive. As for food we ordered the following: 6 House Oysters- 3 Raw and 3 Garlic Wood Grilled- Absolutely fresh and delicious. The raw oysters tasted clean and briny. The grilled was done perfectly tender and not chewy at all. Smelt Fries- The smelt was also fresh and fried to perfection. Great size portion as well. PEI Mussels- Delicious and fresh. The mussels were plump and tender. The garlic butter sauce with calabrian chili's was delicious. Make you dip your grill bread into the sauce Wood Grilled Spanish Octopus- Outstanding, Octopus was cooked perfectly and grilled. It tender,moist and the taste from the wood grill was perfect. Absolutely a 5 star experience! Excellent Happy Hour that started with Guacamole, crab cakes, peel and eat shrimp, followed up with fish and fries, grilled oysters and raw oysters, endive salad, toasted focaccia bread with smoked fish, and ..... finished off with their FABULOUS KEY LIME PIE!!! Oh, yes there were a number of HO libations. Servers were great and eating at the bar and watching the totally pro chef team was super entertaining! Love the vibe here. My wife and I had a top-notch experience at Fish N Beer and are already looking forward to going back. Everything about our visit was incredible. We started with West Coast raw oysters and the garlic butter wood-grilled oysters -- both were incredibly fresh and packed with flavor. The grilled oysters in particular were rich and perfectly prepared. For our entrée, we had the crab-stuffed cod, which was absolutely delicious and beautifully cooked. We finished with key lime pie for dessert, and it was the perfect bright, refreshing ending to the meal. We went on Valentine's Day without a reservation and were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away at the shared table in the front. We didn't mind the communal seating at all -- it added to the lively energy! -- but if you prefer a private table, I'd recommend making a reservation. There's also a great fish bar area where you can watch some of the food prep. The vibes were incredible -- energetic but still intimate. In Denver for a weekend and felt more like an adventour rather than fine dining. Fish and Beer was the perfect spot. A small establishment with a seaside slant of fire grilled seafood with a upscale diner vibe. This looked intriguing and good yet not highly refined. We had no reservations on a Thursday night and we're seated at a high top booth overlooking the crowd. Our waitress, Cassie, was busy at the bar mixing drinks and hustling at a few tables. She was engaging and a good sense of humor. We ordered the blue crab claw fritters with a dipping sauce. The piping hot fritters were different in a good way. The grilled oysters that were flying out of the kitchen were to hard to pass up. We tried the devil and garlic charred oysters and were pleasantly rewarded. We could not pass up the Spanish grilled octopus with roasted fingerling potatoes in a spicy Romesco sauce. A slight char on the succulent octopus and buttery potatoes was a homerun. Following the grilled seafood theme, our final selection was the PEI mussels with garlic butter, Calabria chilis, shallots, white wine and homemade grilled focaccia. UNBELIEVABLE! The portion size was huge and packed with flavor. I felt like we were emerged in a long shoreman's diner but definitely upscale, quality seafood. We were seated outside when it was 96 degrees that day. I wish they had told us when we made reservations that it was for outside. Their fan and mister were not working when we arrived, but someone was working on it and midway through dinner it started working and it felt much better. Most of their food though is delicious. All of their Oysters were good although a tad small for the kind, must get Devil Butter if you like spicy. The Mussels were also on the smaller side, but the flavor was amazing. It came with a side of Grilled Bread that the hubs used to sop the sauce up. Our server Danielle saw that when she came over and said she will bring another piece of bread. At first we were thrilled, only to find that she tacked $2 for it on the check. Oh well, we were going to add another couple bucks for that anyway, but I wished she had told us it was an upcharge so we can decide if we wanted it or not. We didn't feel our server was very forthcoming and felt a bit deceived in getting an additional charge to our check without our permission. The Scallops and the Cod were also fresh and tasty. We loved the chunky crabmeat that came with the Cod The Little Gem Caesar and Wood-Grilled Artichoke were just okay. We would come back just for the food, but next time when making reservations, we will make sure to tell them if we want to sit indoors. And next time one of their servers say they will bring you something, stop them before they walk off (like ours did) to ask if there's an additional charge. read more

We got off on the wrong foot to start with... We shouldn't have arrived hungry knowing it's a small popular place. Service- the hostess was new & lost our reservation. We arrived w/o one & she said it would be 45-1hr wait & made us a reservation. After 1 hour my husband looked at the app & our reservation was gone. They apologized & sat us in less than 5 mins. Lesson learned. We will make a reservation in advance next time. Ambiance- we sat at the bar top facing the kitchen. We really liked watching everything being made & it helped us decide what we wanted. It is very LOUD there. The guy sitting next to me wanted everyone to know he knew the chef & talked with all the cooks very loudly. Think of being in a club & trying to have a conversation. Holy Smokes, this place was the bomb! Note that they open at 5pm! I wasn't paying attention and went at 3 hahaha! Good thing for coming early was that I got a parking spot, lol. All street parking. Got dinner here with a girl friend before heading out to Halloween mingle. We put in for a rsvp on a Friday night. We got there and were immediately taken to our table. I do recommend doing a reservation as there were a lot of people there already. Place is casual and clean. We took advantage of their HH menu and it was great because we got to try a lot of food. Came here for HH. The PEI mussels had a spicy kick that was enjoyable, the house grilled oysters were tasty, and the ez peel shrimp had a dry rub seasoning that was delicious. I have been wanting to go to Fish N Beer for years now. However, my husband doesn't eat seafood (they only have two items that don't contain seafood) so I finally went with a friend. I am always skeptical of eating seafood in landlocked states but, you don't need to worry at Fish N Beer, this is what they do and it shows! Since we got there during happy hour, and this was my first time. We loaded up with: Fish and chips Scallops and chips Mussels Grilled Oysters (half Devil butter and half Garlic butter) Smoked Fish Dip Grilled Casear Salad (WOW!!) All of it was delicious. I wish the fish and chips would have come with more fish but it as mostly fries. The mussels were perfectly done and the sauce to dip the mussels and bread in was a unique and fantastic flavor. Great seafood. fun spot in Rino. Space is a little odd cause it's kind of a long skinny, they've got some sort of like bar table that runs down the middle of the restaurant which is convenient when you're waiting for a seat you're just doing happy hour or a drink. There's also a patio in the back. The seafood is good, no critiques. If someone were to ask me to join them here I'd never say no. My only really knock against it is that its kind of a ways up Latimer and there are so many great places you end up passing along the way, that I almost never make it this far. Years later, Fish N Beer is still one of my favorite restaurants in Denver! I've already taken advantage a few times this year, of the fact that it's right around the corner from my dance studio. Definitely make reservations where possible. Both the indoor and outdoor seating areas are fun - love the lively vibes and customer service here. My favorite dish of all time - which I don't think is on the menu anymore - is the Lobster Mac n Cheese. I've tried a variety of other things like Caesar Salad and Shrimp, which is coated with Old Bay Seasoning. Lots of appetizer and main entree options. Their Dirty Martini is tasty and boozy too! Oysters - didn't love either the mignonette or cocktail sauce. wish there was more hot sauce options other than crystal. i also got a couple shell pieces which was not pleasant. good way to chip some teeth Fish dip - dip itself was good. bread is super smoky. little overwhelming Mussels - sauce/broth was kinda sweet, wasn't a huge fan of. got some grit/sand and 2 or 3 mussels were completely shut closed so i didn't want to risk eating those Shrimp - underwhelming, just some old bay on shelled shrimp. def wouldn't get again Fish n Chips - didn't try the fish but the fries were good and liked the tartar sauce. if i were to come back, this is probably what i would order Stuffed cod - yeah i didnt really like this. the crab mixture was extremely heavy and cod was dry. plopped on top of broccolini with very little sauce. not worth it and i felt kinda gross after eating this overall, i'd only get the fish n chips during happy hour if i were to come back. based off my experience, they're not doing a good job of cleaning/shucking the shellfish. the seating arrangement here is also really weird. they have some seating where you're sitting with strangers and there's barely any room on the table. i would not be happy if i were seated in those spots. luckily we got seated at a private table. i'd maybe come back for happy hour if i was in the area but wasn't impressed with anything so wouldn't come out of my way for this. oh parking here sucks too so keep that in mind read more

Excellent the best seafood that I've had in the land locked state of Colorado. You can't go wrong with order anything off the menu whether it is raw, cooked or marinated like a ceviche or tostada. You can taste the freshness. Almost everything is made from scratch and their happy is a bargain for an upscale dining experience. I've tried nearly everything on their menu, and have a preference for their nibbles than the large plates. I am hoping for the day when their banana empenada comes back, because quite possibly it was one of my favorite desserts I've consumed. The key lime pie is still good, but less so my jam. Always love coming to Fish N Beer! Quality of the seafood is so great and we love everything we've tried on the menu. Tonight we had raw East coast oysters, fish dip, and calamari to start, then a couple of fish baskets and a Caesar salad. To finish we had a slice of key lime pie which was divine. Not only is the quality of the food great but the service is always great too. Cocktails I recommend are the pink 75 and Paloma (not picture) but they also have wine and beer. I hesitate to give Fish and Beer the stellar review it reserves. The place was busy and the excellent review it deserves will only make it harder to get in. Seriously, we were visiting our son and his wife from Cleveland. We had more fun at F&B than should be legal. The small size venue was packed and EVERYONE was having FUN!!!!! The food is spectacular, we had tuna tartar, ceviche, octopus, smelt, oysters on the half shell, and oyster shooters. The wait staff were all knowledgeable and took the time I needed to ask a million questions. They have a hard job just navigating the narrow aisle but they take in stride. This is one of our Denver staples. A place we go to when we just want good food and service and are not in the mood to roll the dice on a new spot. I have tried most of their staple dishes and enjoyed all of them, never floored by any of them (one exception I'll mention later), but they are enjoyable. The music is always on point as well. I will say that lately, a ton of places claim to serve "the best key lime pie in Denver". In my opinion, only F&B has delivered on that.
