Fabulous for lunch or a casual dinner. Salads are delicious. My favorite burger in town and my husband loves the pulled pork sandwich. Great kids' menu and ambient noise is loud so if you are dining with children, they won't embarrass you if their volume is on the high end. One of the best restaurants in Dallas. I have been there twice now, with the food and service outstanding. Ask for the Thai Tuna roll - not on the menu, but fabulous. Also, love the..... dip, deviled eggs, veggie burger, pine room salad, chicken meatballs & spaghetti and coleslaw. Well - everything actually. On our first visit, the family ordered several items on the menu so we could experience a large variety of options and flavors. It was so much fun. Not sure about the deserts - we opted to walk afterwards to Sprinkles for a little cupcake treat! I agree with Houston's Lite/overflow characterization. The design and menu follow simple, minimalist principles. It's dressed-down from and lighter than Houston's. The menu is hard to place. I suppose it's new american with Asian/Californian influences. Being a chronic deliberator, I don't mind the sparse, heterogeneous selection. Also, the portion size isn't out of control. I came here for my second time this past weekend with my girlfriend from Houston. I went for brunch this time, but last time was for dinner. Both times were okay. I'm not a HUGE fan of brunch, but I like to go for the mimosas and bloody marys... Yeah, you know my tagline... "Yes, I ordered two drinks... Don't judge." Haha. Anyway, the menu is very limited here. I decided on the tuna sandwich for brunch/lunch. It was definitely good, but I don't know if it was worth $12. The deviled eggs were legit. I love Yelp! In Dallas on business, and since I have to be away from my family on the weekend, at least my fellow yelpers can help find good food to make the time away from home more tolerable. R+D Kitchen was a great find. For 7.30p on a Sunday night, I was surprised to find a wait. Dining alone, I opted for immediate seating at the bar. As others have noted, the decor and ambiance is wonderful. It was missing one important component: my wife! Absolutely beautiful restaurant. They were very busy, but yet the bar staff were doing a good job of attentive service. They took to the time to answer my questions and questions of those around me. After a long day of flying, setting up our display at the convention center, and then working the show for a few hours, I was really ready for a glass of wine and some quality food. The wine list wasn't long, but I found a really nice zinfandel (Girard Old Vine Zin). Since I'm watching what I eat, I opted for the Roasted Scottish Salmon, Mashed Potatoes and Broccoli - Pistou on the side... The portion size was a bit smaller than I expected for the price, but was filling none the less. The salomon was cooked perfectly - thin crisp/crunch finish oun the very outside of the fish, while the inside was so juicy and flakey, perfectly seasoned. R+D's take on pesto (Pistou) was very tastly, a nice match for the salmon. Very fitting for the atmosphere of the restuarant with all the wood and natural feeling of the surroundings. The broccoli pieces were large, and again - perfectly cooked. I have no idea how they were able to not overcook the crowns while perfectly cooking the stems. Finally, the mashed potatoes were amazing. What came to mind with my first bite was something my 4 year old said when we ordered pizza with some great friends at Grimaldi's in Sugar Land (TX) when the pizza arrived with some green vegetables on it: THERE's SALAD ON MY PIZZA!!! (he said in a shocked horrified voice the somebody would dare put salad on his favorite dish)... There was salad in my mashed potatoes! OK, not salad - but that's what my 4 year old would have said. These potatoes were absolutely wonderful! I've never had cabbage integrated into my mashed taters - but sure would love to have the recipie. An unexpected pleasant surprise, giving the potatos a perfect fit with the pistou and seasonings throughout the dish. No room for desert, but maybe I won't cringe the next time I have to visit the northern end of I-45... R&D has one of the best veggie burgers that I have every had. I also love their salad. We have never had a bad meal at R&D. We love the atmosphere. On numerous occasions, they have given our daughter fish food to feed the fish in the outside fish pool. read more

I had to drive 40 mins from Southlake to get to R+D on this trip and it was worth it. This time around I had the Loudemere pan fried fish with wilted spinach - 4 stars. Of course for the appetizer I had to have the heavenly deviled eggs again - 5 stars. No room for dessert - one of these days I will have to save room. This is a great concept from Hillside (Houstons). Small, small menu but enough of choices in the categories you'd expect. Nice wine list, and in Houstons style, very attentive and well trained staff. I love the lunch salads (Newporter) and you will be well satisfied with this choice. They do a lot of things well- A nice patio, excellent service, and good food. I had some rainbow trout that was excellent and tried the baked chicken off my friends plate. Both were cooked perfect and I didn't have any complaints. It's not something that will blow you away but they do things so well that you don't realize how god the experience was. NOT family friendly. First time customers; We show up with our children and when signing in, we request a high chair. Hostess just smiled and said "Ok." After waiting 45 minutes, we get to our table. I request once again for a high chair and THEN she decides to tell us they have no high chairs. We would have kindly left if we knew they didn't cater to families. NOT all restaurants do, and that's okay, however, let your customers know when they first request a high chair. Food was good, though. read more

I thought this place was good. It is not my favority restaurant in Dallas but I will go back there eventually. Maybe. My girlfriend has eaten there before and really wanted to go back for the seared Ahi tuna salad. I can understand why. They give you a generous portion of sushi-grade Ahi, along with a salad composed of avacado, pickled onions, and radishes. It was pretty tasty. I should just order whatever she is having because she always gets the best thing on the menu. I ordered the carnitas pork sandwich. It reminded me of the carnitas tortas we used to get in PHX, but this was a more americanized/modern version. It had a pickled slaw, avacado, and some sweet/spicy dipping sauce. It wasn't better or worse than a traditional torta from a hole in the wall mexican deli, it was just different. The most notable difference was the price. I probably would not pay $15 for that sandwich again. Everything is À la carte, so you need to order a $5 side to go along with your $15 sandwich. The fries and the deviled eggs were pretty good. Next time I will probably just order and entree. The guy at the table next to us ordered the wild mushroom meatloaf. It looked pretty good but I was avoided it based on the $25 price tag. $25 for meat loaf seemed silly but when I saw it brought out I knew it was something I probably should have tried. I wasn't able to get a taste though. The service was great. The general atmosphere was interesting, the restaurant has an open kitchen feel. I'm a fan! The food is good and unique, the desserts are very large, the service is impeccable (btw - everyone there is gorgeous!), ample parking, and the prices are reasonable. The appetizers are probably my favorite. The tuna sushi roll is interesting, unique, and good. It's got spicy peanuts in it! My favorite is the ice cream sundae dessert - the chocolate they use is from Belgium and the ice cream is truly authentic and is very rich (not overly sugared). There's usually a bit of a wait so if you don't have a reservation (which is hard to get as they only provide 2 reservation spots per half hour), you'll wait between 15-25 minutes. Side note: the water tastes a bit like charcoal - just interesting, not bad or good. read more
