This was a phenomenal visit!!! We came for dinner tonight after my sister keyed us in that they have spectacular egg rolls. Well the reputation is well deserved. The egg rolls were super crisp & crunchy, absolutely delicious. I also got the hot & spicy chicken which was billed as their specialty. It wasn't very spicy at all but it was tasty. Tangy & sweet w/ onions and some red peppers. The atmosphere there was really cute. They had a pillar in the middle of the dining area with chalk writing on it & a few large photography prints hanging up. Our server was great. She cracked jokes, made suggestions about what was good, and was attentive and quick to anything we asked for. I'm definitely adding this to my "Need to return" list!!! read more

This is one of those places you drive by 100 times and don't notice, but you really should! While it's a small place in a non-descript building, it houses some terrific food, fast service, and a nice clean if basic restaurant. First of all, the eggrolls are SO delicious!! Crunchy, hot, excellent flavor! And big! I would come here just for those actually, but so much more to love! The cream cheese wontons are yummy too. The chow mein is not your typical, cornstarch based type, but fresh vegetables in a deliciously flavored, garlicky light sauce on crunchy noodles. Absolutely terrific! Chicken or beef they have both been amazing! Friends have tried many other dishes and loved all of them. The quality of their ingredients makes the food and flavor shine. Make sure to check their hours because they do close and reopen mid-day for a bit. They actually had a trailer at the State Fair which had the Eggroll on a stick and garlic cream cheese Wontons. I hadn't been back to Que Viet in at least fifteen years, then I stopped on New Years Eve for a to-go order--because MT Noodles and Quang were both closed for the day. Long ago I would order an egg roll noodle salad, because that was the only thing I thought they did well. This order was simple: egg rolls, spring rolls, pork noodle salad and hot and spicy chicken. The service was prompt--less than fifteen minutes. The order was around $50, which seemed a bit high. The food was ... okay, but not great. The egg rolls were the best, though my wife said "they have too much onion." The spring rolls were not bad but not great--they actually had mint in them which seems to be an easy ingredient to skimp on. The pork noodle salad was ordinary but servicable. The hot and spicy chicken was downright inadequate. There was no trace of spiciness, almost no onion, and no trace of the heavily-caramelized sauce that is usually the distinguishing trait of this dish. It was as though the sauce was just heavily-reduced chicken broth. I didn't notice any lemon grass either. It reminded me strongly of the worst hot and spicy chicken I'd ever had, which I now recalled was at the Brooklyn Park Que Viet. My recommendation is, if you want some good Vietnamese egg rolls, this is a good place. If you want anything else, I'd think about going elsewhere. read more

I won't ever get sick of the egg rolls here. I love the fried rice and the beef/potato entrees too but am happy just stopping in for an order of egg rolls. I didn't realize it but they are made with rice wrappers which makes them perfect for someone who is gluten intolerant. The service can be rough but it's definitely part of the charm. So, I ended up here looking for some decent eats around the NE/Roseville area. No official website, OK. I'll let that slide, and we'll see what the restaurant has to offer. Perhaps the restaurant serves a bit more than the typical Vietnamese pho and vermicelli fare found in the cities. A little bit of a hole in the wall, but the inside had an upscale feel that wasn't at all Chinese or Vietnamese. Red flag #1. I mean, I guess the overhead Chinese vocals and music playing kind of gets you somewhat in the mood? Sat down, noticed all there was was some soy sauce, salt, paper shakers, and a fork on the cheap Chinese zodiac paper placemat. Red flag #2. Menu... good god. I shouldn't have sat down and should have just asked for a menu up front to take a look. It's pretty much Americanized Chinese food with some Pho offerings. And egg foo young. Who the hell serves egg foo young in a metropolitan area this day and age?!? Anyway, I asked the server what was recommended, and he touted that the eggrolls were touted to be the best in the State Fair or something to that order.. yeah no. Sigh. Anyway, ordered the hot and spicy chicken, what's supposed to be their most popular dish and the least bad from what they had listed on the menu. Good news, the serving for the dish was generous. Chicken thigh meat with onions cooked in what I'm presuming to be a peanut sauce that had hints of garlic and some ginger, but was overall overwhelmingly salty and sweet. Absolutely no heat. They did serve rice, but it was a meager bowl that was not enough to dilute the overpowering sauce. Good news is that the server did provide some additional chili and oil (though I think it was more broad bean chili paste in retrospect) at request to balance out the sauce, and he also did provide chopsticks, though it was the disposable kind (bummer). Long story short, this is not a legit Chinese restaurant. It's catered to the Northeast MPLS/Minnesotan crowd. Spice level was more from the peppercorns than the actual chili that I think the dish sorely needed... Probably should have gone for their pho/noodle soups? Yeah, avoid this place if you're looking for legit Asian food. However, I've had much worse, so the place gets 2-2.5 stars At least the service was good, and the bathrooms were clean. And they didn't charge extra for rice. /s read more

This has been one of my favorite restaurants for over 15 years. I'm convinced that they have the best egg rolls and cream cheese puffs in the US! I now live out of state and make a point to come here every time I visit. They expanded and updated the restaurant in the last few years which I think looks great. even though I didn't take any pictures (boooo!) the egg rolls are fantastic and I'm not a big egg roll person. I think it's the light wrapper and the good sized portion of meat filling with the light dipping sauce that helps put a nice glazing on the fried deliciousness. I also picked up some sweet and sour chicken which was all white meat with a nice, not too heavy breading and a tangy sauce with peppers and pineapple to pour of the chicken and steamed rice. So, my teen daughter and I, super hangry, hiked up to this place for some much needed nosh. It was 15 min to close and we had our fingers crossed that they would still let us place an order to go. The wait time to get in was over 20 minutes even though there were plenty of tables open. I was so anxious to try their famous egg rolls. I didn't know that the vegetarian egg rolls were so nasty. I could not eat them. The texture was like a gel. The ingredients were mysterious. There wasn't the lovely texture of the outside of the pork egg roll. It was the pork egg rolls that are worth having. They are $12 for two of them. The older lady who served us insisted on charging us for the inedible $10 egg rolls, and would not let me order the ones I had come for. It was extremely discouraging. She would only give me 10% off. I also had the chicken almond ding which did not seem like chicken almond ding because the almonds were tiny fragments of almond. I thought the ingredients seemed fresh which was good. But I was very, very disappointed that I didn't get to try the good pork egg rolls. My friends went there yesterday. Their bill came to $358.00. The restaurant now adds the tip on automatically. Many restaurants are doing that now and it's not a good thing. I can't go to a restaurant that doesn't stand behind their food and insists on charging you for it even if it is inedible. Everything was delicious despite we received the wrong soup. We ordered a asparagus and grab soup but instead received a wonton soup with meat and my SO is a pescatarian, and she found out it was the wrong soup based on visible protein of chicken. After we received the correct soup, it was a dull let down. Looked like the soup had too much starch since it was really clumpy and lacked any color due to lack of garnishes like the last soup how it had green onions and this one didn't. 1. The name is very misleading because this is not an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. There's nothing on their menu that screams Vietnamese. It's more of a Chinese-American restaurant. Lo mein, chow mein, sweet and sour chicken/pork, fried rice, etc. Granted, the workers are the only Vietnamese thing about this place. 2. This place can be very deceiving, it looks like a run down place on the outside but the inside is actually quite cute. It's got a modern touch with some chalkboard additions. There's Vietnamese art pieces around the restaurant but that doesn't really compensate for their Chinese American menu. 3. Service here is confusing, it is not a first come first serve place. People who came in 10 minutes after we ordered got their water and food before us? ??they were seated with drinks right away when we were there for a good ten minutes before them, on top of that, we already ordered and still didn't get water. I was a little baffled when they got their food and check before us too. Especially considering no one else was there. It's hard to miss when you were the only table other than the new table that just walked in. 4. We ordered the chicken wings, which turned out to be delicious garlic oyster wings. The sauce was actually very good. These were different because usually at other places, they're crispy, battered, and sauced. Here, they're sauced. No crisp but it was still very good. -We ended up getting the chicken chow mein and the beef and vegetables. Now, when we ordered or server asked if we wanted mushroom with the chicken chow mein, we said yes. --When the food came out, they were made with the same exact vegetables and sauce for both dishes. The chicken chow mein was basically the same dish, but with chicken and the chow mein crackers. Not to mention there was one piece of sliced mushroom. That is not chow mein. ---the sauce was also very liquidy and bland. I don't recommend this place if you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food. read more

Where do I begin? The service is incredible and welcome the moment you get seated. Everyone is so kind. My waiter made me feel at home. The other customers and myself got our drinks and food so quickly. The pho was pho-nomenal! I live in the neighborhood and I can't believe I've been missing out. Ordered: Pho Biet (well done) and shrimp fried rice I wish I could've tried the egg rolls but it contains pork. I know that it's pretty strange to do a review over 30 years after eating at a restaurant. But I used to live on Tyler NE, and Que Viet was a favorite of mine and my future wife. Our favorite dishes were (of course) the egg rolls, the Vietnamese pancake, and the bowl of noodles with grilled pork and egg rolls (got to have more egg rolls). To this day, of all the really good Vietnamese food we've had in the Chicago area and in the San Francisco Bay area, plus in our travels, we've never had egg rolls as good as Que Viet. read more

I cannot believe that this place has been open since 1980 and I had never visited it (through delivery) until tonight! My wife and I and my mother had dinner together and we got food delivered (thank you Bite Squad!) and everything was fabulous! The egg rolls are truly the best ones I've ever had in Minnesota. The entrees were all delicious and so plentiful that we will have no problem putting together a dinner tomorrow night! Had never been to Que Viet despite living in MPLS all my life. The place I used to go to get pho closed recently leaving me to look for a new place. Que Viet is it. Great staff,lot of fun to speak with while waiting for my take out order. I tried the sweet and sour shrimp and the meatball pho. Sweet and sour shrimp has the style of sweet and sour sauce I like, with peppers, tomatoes and pineapple in a rich sauce. Shrimp pieces are nicely battered with the batter staying on during frying, and they are good size shrimp. 1 order, which would feed 2 people very well, comes with white rice and approximately 8 pieces of shrimp. Meatball pho comes with bean shoots, cilantro, tripe, onion, lime wedges, and rice noodles. Meatballs are about 1 inch diameter and plenty filling, you get about 15 - 20 meatballs to a quart of broth. Did not try any of the deserts but the lady I spoke with was telling me how they were made, may have to try them next time. My experience was take out only but from what I saw it looks like a good place. Parking is kind of hard in front but it's right off 22nd and Johnson NE so side street might be available. read more

They can get very busy (so be a little expectant of that) however the service is usually always friendly and prompt! One of my favorite dishes they have is the Egg Foo Young, and it's usually big enough to split or take home for leftovers. I WALKED to Que Viet in a BLIZZARD for these eggrolls. I dream about them. Usually I call ahead and order takeout, and the service is super fast, like 10/15 minutes for pho and the aforementioned eggrolls. I've only eaten in-house once, but it was equally great. Excellent Vietnamese iced coffee that you make/mix at the table.
