My parents used to take me here all the time 10-15years ago! Their tea jelly is really great and refreshing, and so is their shaved ice for the summer. I made a lunchtime phone order for a pork belly rice with brown rice, and I skipped the free green/black tea bc the worker said they add sugar to it. (If you like sweet, then go ahead and get it! I've been coming here since I was young because they have a mirror vegetarian menu and a lot of authentic Taiwanese homestyle dishes. The price was also super affordable with big portions back then. Since childhood they've gone full vegetarian at the encouragement of the owner's temple then back to only half vegetarian. During COVID, they were only take-out and I am SO happy they have dine-in again! They definitely prefer cash only and it is a small mom and pop with the same staff from years ago. It's nice to see a familiar face. Since an owner change, some recipes were tweaked but overall it's very similar. One of my favorite things to get is the mushroom omelette that is a parallel to the oyster omelette street food. I also really like to get stir fried udon. The vegetarian beef noodle soup is also hard to fine at other vegetarian restaurants and is very flavorful. Shaved ice is only 5 dollars (fyi condensed milk counts as one of the four topping choices). The staff isn't super friendly but they are busy trying to do their job as cashier, help with dishes. There is a station on the side where you can get your own water and extra utensils, plates, cups if needed. No frills just nostalgic, comfort food. read more

I happened to be in the area doing Christmas shopping, when I decided I also wanted to order carry out to take home. I saw that QQ Kitchen had omelette rice, and I knew this was the place to go. I phoned an order for omelette rice, and the staff asked me if I wanted tea. Apparently, this restaurant gives a complimentary iced black tea or iced green tea with every meal, which was awesome. I ended up ordering an iced green tea to go with the omelette rice. The meal with the tea was ready when I arrived, about 10 minutes after I placed my order. It took the staff a little while to get to me but that's ok. It's a very very small hole in the wall restaurant, like a family owned business. The omelette rice tasted a lot like other Taiwanese style omurice dishes I've had. The egg was fully cooked and not runny. There was ketchup on top. The rice was also ketchup rice, but not as sweet as I am used to from other Japanese restaurants. Still, the dish was quite good. I loved the complimentary iced green tea. It's been years since we ate here. Based on my previous review, the service wasn't the best. But now during the never ending pandemic, we decided to come and support them again. As of January 2022, they're still not open for dine-in. But since we're less than 10 minutes away, it's no trouble for us to order take-out. Recently we came here twice in a week. First time we only ordered the Sausage Rice. Generous portion of sliced sausage lay in a bed of rice mixed with minced meat. Served with marinated egg and tofu with some cabbage in the side. Great flavor and nice portions. We came back a few days later and tried the pork chop rice, pork & chicken rice; both came with marinated egg & tofu with minced meat on the rice. Both were delicious. The pork was more tender than the chicken however. Also got a Sacha squid stewed noodles. Apparently this is an authentic Taiwanese dish, and it's my first time trying it. It has a thick, rich broth with a nice sacha flavor, goes very well with noodles or vermicelli. The recent dishes we ordered were all tasty, and this has made me a fan of QQ Kitchen. Introduction: I've driven past this location on many occasions and I never really got the chance to pay it a visit until recently. Desserts: In terms of desserts, when I'm here I usually get two things: tea jelly and Taiwanese shaved ice. Taiwanese shaved ice: Unlike some modern Taiwanese shaved ice that put mango syrup, strawberry syrup, and at times cereals, as their toppings, the shaved ice at QQ Kitchen is legitimate. When it comes to Taiwanese shaved ice, it's about toppings that are diverse, simple, and natural: beans, nuts, fruits, and jellies. QQ Kitchen has mostly all the classics: mung bean, red bean, aiyu [lemon jelly], pineapple, kidney beans, barley, taro, peaches, condensed milk, peanut, and grass jelly.​ I got condensed milk, barley, tea jelly, and taro. It's been years since I've had authentic Taiwanese shaved ice like this. A lot of the Taiwanese shaved ice nowadays ​is just too sweet. Legitimate Taiwanese shaved ice used to be much more common back in the 90s but some of the places that sold good shaved ice have since closed. Tea Jelly: Tea jelly, a treat I've often enjoyed as a child. Haven't had it in years and now I finally found a place that makes it well and right. The good thing about QQ Kitchen is they use quality tea to make the tea jelly and on top of that, they use roasted Oolong as opposed to fresh [green, less oxidized] Oolong to make it; thus it shows me the establishment has a decent understanding of tea culture and knows what orthodox Oolong is [if it's fresh green Oolong, then it isn't Oolong simply due to the nature of the tea's name]. This in turn leads me to believe they haven't lost their roots and the culinary execution of their dishes should also be authentic and good. I been coming here at least 20 years, through ownership and menu changes. They're vegetarian friendly as well. My go to is always the pork chop rice, which comes with cabbage, pickled mustard, soy egg, minced pork. I'll forever dream about their homemade radish chili sauce which was discontinued decades ago. QQ kitchen has been a long time establishment and has survived for a while. I hadn't tried their food in such a long time and tried the pork and chicken rice. The pork still has the bone on it and was on the sweet side. The chicken was grilled and slightly dry but good overall.
