The Pyramid is in the Fairmont Hotel - its a very upscale place all the way from the bar to the rooms. I was always a VIP when I came here, starting at the door when we pulled up in a limo - I never knew arriving in a limo would set the course for the rest of the night but it REALLY does! Yes this place is expensive but the statement you get what you pay for is very true, and this is a classy place that you wont regret spending big money at! Service and the food here is phenomenal. I've never actually eaten at the restaurant, but my family (is lazy &) has had our Thanksgiving meal catered from here twice now. Cooking for Thanksgiving is too much work when you can just get it catered. The amount of food they give is tremendous, and the prices are about the same, if not cheaper than Whole Foods or Central Market. It consists of a whole turkey, sweet potatoes, a salad, pumpkin soup, corn bread & other breads, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, green beans, stuffing & a pie. The usual Thanksgiving fare. Nothing is really 'mind-blowing', but it is just traditional Thanksgiving stuff for a reasonable price. Unusual takes on this type of stuff might even be unappreciated since there is just so much 'tradition' with these dishes. I will say that the cream of pumpkin soup is really good. Located within the Fairmont Hotel is Pyramid Restaurant. To me it doesn't look like much of a restaurant, it more so resembles a typical hotel bar. Small area situated in the lobby of the hotel. Decent size bar with a few tables and chairs. The food looked okay but we only came to drink. Beers were in the NY price range (surprising), cocktails were expensive. Service was great. Our waitress was very nice and personable. Not a bad place if you're just looking to relax for a bit. read more

If I'd known how much $125 worth of food would purchase, I would've brought my friends along as well. We started off with leek soup - thick and creamy; quite delicious and pork belly, which melted in your mouth. The entrees were well-made as well (cobia and fillet). One of my disappointments was not having enough time to try their desserts. Another disappointment was not having scallops available. Last disappointment was the moscow mule I ordered. It was terrible and NOT served in a copper mug. The so-called 'mule' was sent back for a wine instead. Service was a little rough, our waiter seemed very antsy and couldn't stand still. This review is of the bar experience, as I arrived right before the restaurant closed. Drinks were made promptly and accurately. I had some difficulty ordering, the bartender couldn't hear me over the music, which was a pretty bad satellite-radio pop mix. A place like this would benefit from a DJ or a hand-picked playlist or pandora station. The decor was the best part of the experience, it has held up well to a high-traffic environment and had lots of nice touches (especially the lighting), which made looking around the room into a "where's Waldo" game. Except instead of finding Waldo, you're finding thoughtful design. Not as grand as the Adolphus, but what bar could be? I ordered a cheese board, which was gorgeous and full of tasty treats. So frustrating to pay these prices for really poor service. I truly felt like the invisible man. I asked for tea with no lemon it came with lemon. I asked for harvest vegetables instead of mash potatoes my filet came with mashed potatoes. My beverage glass remained empty for most of my meal. It continued to remain empty while I waited 15 minutes to get my check. The filet was OK. I had had a filet at Dakota's last night and the difference in preparation made this mediocre piece of meat seem extraordinarily disappointing. Now to make things worse the waiter says he cannot produce a bill and has asked me to simply provide my room number for billing my meal. Very low class. Sometimes you get very little attention from an overly serviced cocktail waitress, or it could be dead and they're spot on. They use to have top tier dessert (blueberry cobbler/tart of some sort, but they quickly changed that). I wish I could speak more to the offerings of their menu, but I have eaten here a dozen times, and I've only ever gotten the burger; add bacon and mushrooms. I will offer one disclaimer: My dining experience took place during a HUGE birthday dinner, and its possible that the staff was under prepared. That being said, the service was horrible and the food reflected. I personally ordered the Sea Bass and despite my overall distaste for Pyramid, I found it to be delicious! It was seasoned perfectly, flaked fabulously and had an overall awesome flavor! To the contrary, my friend ordered the chicken and that was a horrible mistake! Whatever you do, DO NOT order the chicken. The staff described the dish as a 'half chicken" but it was FAR from such! It literally looked like 2 drums atop braised greens. What completely threw me off was what appeared to be kidney beans! YUK! There isn't much I can say about this dish, I didn't try it because she only had 2 bites as it was. I will simply say that the presentation was non-impressive, and her slow consumption only confirmed my suspicions! DO NOT order the chicken! As for the Sea Bass, I ordered a modified plate and asked for the Bok Choy with a side of Risotto vs the suggested accompaniments. Therefore I will only comment on the Sea Bass and Risotto. Again, the Bass was so good it melted in my mouth. The Risotto was Risotto- nothing to rave about or stand out from the rest. Being that I didn't receive my side of risotto until 30 minutes into my meal, I am unable to truly report on how well it accompanied my fish. I will say that the Sea Bass alone is worth its weight in gold. I saw the Salmon dish, and immediately opted against it. From across the table it appeared to have been baked in a microwave and had that poorly-cooked-white look to it...Similar to my early days of cooking when I didn't know any better and bought my sea food from Wal-Mart. Having had quality seafood prepared correctly now, it was more than obvious that the Salmon was less than stellar. Didn't taste it, so my comments are minimal- but again, presentation is everything and the presentation sucked. (for lack of a better term) If you're staying in the hotel- this is possibly a really good choice. If you're simply riding around downtown and looking for fine dining- keep looking! I don't recommend this place, I'm super happy that I did not buy the recently offered Groupon, and I'm almost 100% certain that I will not return. Looking at the other reviews makes it seem like this place is hit or miss, it was a hit on the day we went. The pate brulee was interesting in a good flavorful way. The pate itself was smooth and creamy and the bruleed crunchy sugar top was a nice contrast to the savory buttery pate. The grilled bread that came with it was good but buttery toast is hard to mess up. Our soups were nice, the fish was properly cooked but not outstanding. The pork chop was my favorite. It was juicy, well seasoned with a nice balance of flavors. The sides worked well but the chickpeas were overdone and a bit too mushy. Dessert was fine, prices are a bit high, service was great. I think the place is worth trying especially if you can find the three course meal deals around the internet. read more

If you're looking for a great place for dinner in downtown Dallas, be sure to try the Pyramid at the Fairmont. We haven't been there too many times, but when we have, we enjoyed it. On our last visit we had a special 5-course dinner with wines to match, and we stuffed ourselves silly. The decor is really interesting and the waitstaff is friendly and efficient. They also have a great wines selection. The only thing I don't like about going to the Fairmont is the parking. My in-laws hosted a day-after wedding brunch for us at the Pyramid. The staff at the restaurant helped my mother-in-law draw up a special menu for us which featured their burger, eggs Benedict, and a chicken caesar salad as well as a lemon panna cotta as dessert. I had the eggs Benedict with cured ham (there was also a salmon option), and I must say that this was an amazing dish. The Hollandaise sauce was absolutely delicious and my poached eggs were cooked to perfection. The ham was very thinly sliced and set atop a still toasty (not soggy! Very important!) English muffin. A baked Roma tomato and some spicy roasted new potatoes complemented the meal wonderfully. I had to spend time moving from table to table to visit with our wedding guests, but I periodically made a dash back to our table to gobble up a few more bites. I finished the entire thing and still wanted more! Several people reported that they had only one well poached egg while the other was over cooked. I've had this same experience at other places. Why is it so difficult for restaurants to poach eggs consistently? I need to talk with a chef about this. The dessert was a work of art all on its own. The panna cotta was rich and creamy with a strawberry reduction poured over it. Sprinkled atop the reduction were little gummy-bear looking gels which turned out to be vinegar gelatin. The vinegar added just the right amount of acidity to round out the dessert. I was just really impressed with how smart the idea of the dish was. Very impressive. And highly recommended! read more

We saw it on travelzoo so we decided to give it a try. Yeah......bad decision We ordered the Scallop appetizer, Crab Cakes,Grilled salad, Tenderloin, Short Ribs, and 2 desserts. The only things that I would put in my mouth again are the actual tenderloin and short ribs meats themselves. Those were pretty tasty. Everything else that I mentioned included the sides on the plates were utterly disappointing. You couldn't pay me to eat them again, especially the crab cakes and the desserts...wow vomitous. Host, waiter, and the valet (you have to) services were good. Decor was elegant and atmosphere was quiet and romantic for a lobby restaurant. The restaurant gives off a classy feel, but everyone were dressed very casually, shorts and jeans. After taking our drink orders, we waited longer than normal before our order was taken. We had Crab cakes for appetizers, which was a little dry, but not too bad. My fiancee ordered the 8oz steak and I had the 12oz ribeye. She ordered her steak medium-well, but it was clearly overcooked and very dry. My ribeye was suppose to be medium, but was at least medium-well, but wasn't too bad, just under-seasoned. If the steaks cost no more than $30, I would have given this place a better review. But for a classy restaurant in a 4-star hotel, this place deserves no more than 3 stars. read more

The Pyramid is a close walk from the office, and a suitable place to snag lunch. Although the pictures look quite up-scale, it's actually a really comfortable environment during lunch. Perhaps it classes up a bit at night, but I've never been in the evening. Food here is good. It's been hit and miss for me. The first few times I went I had a few of the different sandwiches, and the last time we went they had switched up the menu (as most nice restaurants are apt to do these days). I ordered the pork belly sandwich, I believe, and some of the frits. The frits here are really the best thing I've had consistently. Cooked to perfect, they're tasty and crunchy, and make you realize the difference between them and the standard "french fry". Service here has always been pretty good. The last time we went the order was really slow coming out, apparently because the chef was wrestling with the new menu. They offered to let us grab something to snack on from the buffet while waiting, and that was nice. Price is reasonable. You can typically get out of here for under $15 for lunch. I'd suggest drinking water to save on the bill, though. This is one of those $2/drink places, and it just wasn't worth it. Overall, good place. I'll probably continue to go here for lunch because it's convenient, but not something that I would go out of my way to go to, or recommend to my friends. read more

I really liked the modern decorations & classy atmosphere of this hotel restaurant but the food & service experience was, like the number or stars, A-OK. To start w/, once we got seated, drink orders taken & delivered, there was this awkward lag until our server took our food orders. There was no restaurant introduction or menu recommendations or prompts for us to ask questions, so I felt a bit confused about the situation @ the time. Maybe the server had thought we've already been there or something cause it didn't seem like he too busy while he was waiting for us to go over the menus. We ended up ordering the crab cake & scallop appetizers which were our favorite dishes of the dinner. The crab cakes were light & the scallops were well cooked & both nicely flavored. Entree wise, we ordered the ostrich & the New York strip. I still can't believe I ate ostrich. hahaha Guess I was daring that night. I wasn't asked how I wanted my ostrich cooked & it looked like it was medium rare to rare when it came out but the meat reminded me of lamb & I'm already not a big fan of lamb. The fresh meat scent of it throws me off. Most of the New York strip was rubbery until the very very center where we got maybe four bites of tender meat. For dessert, the bananas foster & bourbon cake was nicely presented & both weren't too sweet. I really liked the toffee crunches in the bananas foster. Visiting this restaurant gave me a chance to check out the Fairmont hotel in Dallas which seemed like a neat place. read more

Hubby made a 1,000 point reservation for a late dinner at Pyramid. He didn't bother to research the place to see that it is located in the Fairmont Hotel. Not that being in a hotel is a bad thing-just not preferable. But hey-free valet is a huge plus. I'll cut to the chase: service was great and attentive. We couldn't find anything on the menu that appealed to us but the bar cocktail menu had decent offerings. We were afraid to order off of the bar menu given that we were seated in the restaurant part. Ate here as a convenience of staying in the hotel, and was pleasantly surprised. While the service lacked a little bit, I realized they only had one server, so I've got to be a little lenient. He was; however, extremely nice. As for the food, it's been a while since I went, so I can't remember exactly what my girlfriend and I had, other than that I had steak and she had scallops(I believe). They were both amazing. The steak was so tender and just melted in my mouth, and her scallops were Grade A, absolutely delicious. I also got one of their Singapore Sling's which was one of the best I've had. Usually it takes at least 2 drinks to get me feeling good, and it only took one of these. Also, it was cheaper than I expected, and cheaper than at other restaurants. So, more liquor for less price. I'll take that any day. This place is definitely a little pricy, but if you're okay with spending the extra money on some wonderful food, I certainly recommend going here. read more

We arrived on a "fight night" at the hotel so the parking was challenging, but the restaurant was nearly empty - lots going on elsewhere in the hotel. The food was prepared well. I had a soup appetizer, which while tasty was ill conceived in presentation - I watched as it was nearly spilled on our table and every other table that ordered it. The beef shank was very tender - if I found myself there I would not hesitate to order it again, and after talking with the waiter we took a chance on a Vermentino wine, which we found to be quite good. Bottom line: I don't think I would send friends from out of town here to eat, but if they were staying in the hotel I would join them for dinner. read more

The Fairmont Hotel has been a special part of my family for a long time. My grandparents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there a few years ago, and my parents and I have stayed there many times. I always recalled the restaurant as one of the "fancier" places in Dallas and more old fashioned. So when I heard they brought on a new chef and developed an all-new menu that is more accessible and modern, I decided to treat my dad to a nice dinner and check it out! First off, the service was outstanding. The manager Jonathan made us feel so welcome, and our server Miguel was very friendly and attentive. We found a very well-priced Pinot Noir (under $50!) and settled in for our meal. The chef sent out an amuse bouche which was nice. It was a tiny cup of cantaloupe gazpacho. Perfect for the warm evening, and the perfect start to our meal. The appetizers all looked so good, but we decided on the Pork & Apples and the deconstructed Banh Mi dish. The Pork & Apples was AMAZING! The pork belly was crisp but melt-in-your-mouth tender. It was resting on little swipes of house-made honey-mustard (from the bee hives on the roof) and wilted greens. But the apples! I've never seen anything like them--the chef said they were canned apples. They have the texture and sweetness of baked apples, rolled in a caramel sauce and crushed pecans. Heavenly! The dish was a triumph of sweet and savory coming together. The Banh Mi dish was a twist on the classic, with confit rabbit rillettes instead of pork pate. You spread the rabbit on baguette, then top with the fresno chile aioli and pickled veggies and herbs. It was so fun and tasty! I also got the Raw Garden salad, which is really cool because it's lettuce-free. Just hearty raw veggies sliced super thin and seasoned, so there was a lot of crunch and flavor. Very good salad! For our entrees, I got the Shrimp & Grits and my dad got the Salmon. My Shrimp & Grits was outstanding! The blue-corn grits were the perfect consistency and very flavorful. The shrimp were not wimpy at all, and tasted fresh out of the ocean. It sounds crazy, but one of my favorite things about the dish was the tomatoes. I'm not sure how they cooked them, but they had a really concentrated tomato flavor. My dad's salmon was great as well, with a very crispy exterior--my only complaint of the whole meal was that it was a little overcooked (I like my salmon a little raw in the middle) but the flavors were there. Love the fresh sauteed veggies that came with it, too! So at this point we were getting pretty full but having such a great time, and we couldn't resist tasting some of the desserts (that's what to-go boxes are made for, amirite?) so I ordered the Ice Cream Sandwich and dad got the Bread Pudding. Let me tell you, I'm so happy I boxed up half of my dinner so I had room for dessert. The ice cream sandwich was spectacular! I've never had anything like it. The cookies were chamomile flavored, with lavender ice cream and blueberry compote inside. I loved how they presented it in a little wax paper wrapper. So cute! My dad's bread pudding was super rich, but it was the ice cream on top that blew me away. I have no clue how they do it but it has this crunchy exterior, almost like it's rolled in toffee? YUM! Also, Jonathan recommended some dessert wine for us to try with our selections and it was the perfect pairing. At some point while I was slipping into a food coma the chef, Brandon, came and spoke with us. He was very warm and seemed genuinely interested in how we were enjoying everything. I gave him a high five and a thumbs up lol. I could hear other tables telling him how much they enjoyed their food as well. A table near us ordered a vegan pasta dish that looked very interesting--I'll have to come back and try it next time! We had such a great time and I will for sure be back to try some other things on the menu, like the Brick Chicken and the Pasta Carbonara. We came here on a Sunday for Restaurant Week's lunch Menu. Food was horrible and I felt like I was at Perkins, rather than a nice restaurant. We had a cold soup and salad vinaigrette for appetizers. For the main entrees, my other half was served with a rotisserie chicken on a bed of veggies (Not lunch worthy). My entree was a Hamburger with fries. For desserts, he had a yogurt dish and I had the Smore's - served with hard sticky marshmallows and unmelted, very hard chocolate. Overall - it was a horrible experience. Completely disappointed. From the website and other reviews, I expected to find a restaurant with class and style and well-prepared cuisine. Instead, we arrived to a hotel diner with over-priced food. Screaming kids running around our table, a lively but loud bar, a very nice but poorly trained waiter (we had to prompt him every time but once that our drinks were empty or we wanted to order the next course), and then there was the food... When I see a restaurant that has prices in the range of Pyles or Ferrin's, and descriptions that look like poetry, I expect to put delicious little bites of heaven in my mouth. Instead, we had to send back the Beef Tar Tar since it tasted like a hamburger patty drenched in olive oil, the lamb chops arrived to the table at room temperature, and my wife ordered the salmon, which was delicious, but the salad that came with it tasted like month-old veggies that they were trying to get rid of to save on costs. We both gagged after taking two chews, and both got sick an hour later. And the best part of the night? Having the hostess and waiter care more about us than the manager, who gave us a terse "sorry" on our way out the door and NEVER came to the table because he was busy focusing on the girls in the bar, which is obviously this establishment's money maker, since it cannot possibly be the restaurant. I noticed the website said diners receive complimentary valet parking, and because I was tight on time, I decided to save a few minutes by driving instead of walking. Because the wait time at 1:00pm for sandwiches for 5 people and just a few other people in the bar was 45 minutes and the food was wrong. Tried again for dinner, this time a To Go order. Wait time was decent- 10 mins and I went on my way. Open my To Go container? Food was wrong. "Chicken Sandwich" does not sound like "Grilled Cheese and Bacon." Get your act together. This place really went above and beyond during a pandemic snowmageddon for a pregnant lady. I read their online menu from my hotel room at the beginning of the snow storm (2/15) and my husband ordered me the mozzarella sub. Long story short, when I went to pick it up they didn't have all the ingredients for the sandwich I ordered - totally understandable given the situation. This made me burst into tears right in the bar because I had barely eaten all day and by then that sandwich was all that sounded good to me. Raul (manager maybe?) was so nice- he discreetly read through the available menu with me off to the side so as not to embarrass me further and helped me find something that sounded good. I ended up with a fabulous chicken cheese dip. Then I told him I needed vegetables and he went to the back and put together a whole bowl of carrots and celery with ranch for me at no charge, which was so nice it made me cry even harder... All in all, the food I got was delicious and even their first attempt at that mozzarella sub looked amazing. Most importantly, the staff was beyond helpful. You can't tell I'm a pregnant hormone monster by looking at me at this point so it probably just seemed like I was nuts, not to mention I'm sure he'd had a hell of a day already with the storm and then had to go to work, and he was STILL this nice and patient with me. We went here for Dallas Restaurant Week for lunch because it was one of the few restaurants that offered lunch and because its menu looked the most promising out of the ones that did. The restaurant is located in the Fairmont Hotel. Our receipt at the very end said that your parking is free if you eat here but we parked in some open lot that wasn't free so we had to pay $10. Boo. It wasn't crowded at all, not even a bit, when we went which was nice. We had a very pleasant waiter who took care of us very well. I wish I remembered his name because he was such a patient waiter. I ordered the BBQ pork flatbread, the grilled NY strip steak, and the chocolate brownie cake. - BBQ pork flatbread was really good! It was a good portion too considering it was just an appetizer. Not too heavy on the BBQ sauce which is normally always an issue. - NY strip steak was alright. I asked for rare because cooks always tend to be cooked longer than I want and that's exactly what happened. My steak was medium rare and even closer to medium if anything. It was a very mediocre steak, and they tried to take a spin on it by putting a slab of this English Stilton compound butter on top, which is something along the lines of blue cheese and butter put together. The blue cheese is very strong and it doesn't exactly go with the steak in my opinion, but it's interesting and would be enjoyable with any other dish. It came with a very simple salad and some truffle fries. - Chocolate brownie cake exceeded my expectations. I was expecting a brownie or a cake but it was more like a thin layer of brownie with some chocolate ganache on top. The brownie part was okay but I love ganache so it came out to be delicious anyways. The service here was just exceptional. Aside from our waiter, the cook even stepped out to greet our table and see how the food was. That literally never happens to me. *I received a comped diner due to a special event hosted by a friend. I was invited out for a last minute dinner by a friend who needed a few extra people to fill seats for a special event at the restaurant. I, of course, said to count me in. Any time I get to try a new restaurant, I'm in. I was a bit apprehensive because hotel dining can easily be anywhere from "this is also our attempts at a room service menu" to 5 stars. I have to say, I would have gladly paid for the meal I ate!! My friend has a very strict diet due to medical issues, no gluten no dairy, so she often has a hard time dining out. The restaurant, to our surprise, has a whole page of 3 course dietary specific dining options: gluten free, vegan, raw, heart healthy, and other option I forget now. The items offered in each of those options looked just as good as the regular menu items. We first ordered some drinks from the drink menu. I chose the salted caramel old fashion - Delicious!! While enjoying our drinks, I started with the steak tartar that was served topped with a quail egg and chives. It was cold and perfectly seasoned. You could tell it was make with a tender lean cut of beef! For our main, we both had the grilled beef tenderloin (do you see a theme here, we're meat eaters). The steaks were cooked to perfection and were so lean and tender!! They came with brussels sprouts, which my dining companion said she wasn't 'a big brussels sprouts person' but that she enjoyed these. I opted for a glass of red wine with my steak, and the server actually corked a fresh bottle for my wine by the glass to ensure that I wasn't getting a glass from a day old bottle. Finally for dessert we split the chocolate candy bar, a server recommendation, which came with the best coffee ice cream I think I've ever had. Not too sweet, and super light in texture. When the bill came (for our drinks only) we happily paid the tab and left our servers a hefty tip. They had given us such a wonderful experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant could be appropriate for business dining or for romantic evenings depending on where you are sat. They have these cute little 2 person banquets tucked into the corners of the room, and an impressive glass 'wine cellar' that dominates one wall of the space. Diners at the restaurant are also provided with complementary valet, which in this part of town is very rare!! Apparently this new dining experience at the Fairmont Hotel is due to a new chef, and I am excited to try this place again (next time maybe on a more romantic evening). read more

I really wanted to like this place because the waitstaff was very good, but it was incredibly pricey for average food. I have no problem paying $215 for a 2-person dinner if the food was great, but it was very underwhelming. First, it's 7:30 on a Friday night, big weekend- OSU/Texas so you'll have some guests coming, they're out of the foie gras. Lovely. The wild boar was tough, flavorless and tasted boiled. My crab cakes were bland. The tomahawk chop was pretty good but the accompanying potatoes and veggies were cold. The red velvet cake dessert was average and came 20 minutes after our double espressos were long gone. The ambiance was a joke. At $100 a head I don't want to see shorts and backwards caps. I understand in the bar, but in the main dining area, shorts, t-shirt, backwards cap and I have to pay, idk $16 for 2 paltry crabcakes? Get out of here. When we came in the place was empty.. we were placed in the corner near the kitchen. Whatever. It started to fill but there was still plenty of open tables yet they seated this horrible threesome with a toddler on top of us at a table for 2. It ruined our evening. The man in jeans and a tshirt yelled loudly as he waved his kid around, and then ordered for himself and baby, Mac and Cheese and fries (neither on the menu.) they were so close one of the women sat on my to go bag trying to squeeze into the booth side. 5 star prices? then act like it. If you don't have a kids menu don't let underdressed loud mouths in to have kid food specially made for them and the adults, (ps the women took 25 min to order... changing all the suggested sides, subbing heirloom veggies for fries, etc) all at our expense bc that's when our dessert went MIA for a half an hour. I hope the $60 you guys made off of them, who will never come back to, was worth ruining the night and losing the business of paying customers. What a shame that experience was. And of course when we left, none of the maitre dees asked how our meal was... maybe they learned the hard way not to bother. read more
