Oh no, I just realized I reviewed the wrong place... apparently there's a Purity in Park Slope and and Purity in Prospect Heights. Anyways, I went with a veggie burger here which I wouldn't recommend... it's nice that you could see the vegetables and it did make me feel like I was eating a little healthier, but it just didn't taste good to me. Excellent (or should I say eggselent... gah, no, Ryan's puns are taking over my brain!!) egg cream, though! The waiter forgot my boyfriend's diet coke and left it on the menu, but was really quick to make the change when it was pointed out (nicely). I really like the location on 7th Ave and I like that it has more ambiance and muuuch better decor than your run of the mill diner. I like this place quite a bit. I would go there about once a week when I was working at Methodist hospital. They secretly give a no tax discount to hospital employees so that kept me going back :) Diner food in general is just the best thing in the world so it's pretty hard to screw up as far as i'm concerned. This place made a mean french toast and has cheap, plentiful coffee. Very friendly staff to boot, including a stereotypical "Ey, wassa matta yoo!" type guy at the front counter. Honestly though I'd more often go up the block to donut luncheonette. This place is a close second though. read more

How can you be mad when your breakfast cost $3.95? The eggs and toast tasted like, well, eggs and toast. For some reason I had a glass of red wine with this, which was actually a craptastic airplane-sized bottle of shitty merlot. Just what the doctor ordered. Their menu is huge and full of delicious breakfast for all the drunkards, and the server was nice and actually checked back to see how everything tasted. Some day i'm going to write a good review, but today isn't that day. I went there recently with my partner, the bill came to thirty dollars and change, I left $40 (two twenties). When the waitress (young, blond, I think Russian) failed to bring my change I asked her about it, and she said, "No, you left a ten and a twenty". I know this was impossible, since I saw I had 2 twenties and I would never leave LESS than the whole amount. Since this happened to be erev Yom Kippur, I didn't feel like arguing, I just left a $6 tip and left. But you can be sure I won't ever go there again. btw - I stopped going to their sister restaurant, the 'Little Purity' on 7th ave & 12th street because of similar shenanigans: check totaled up to wrong amount - in their favor, incorrect change left, etc... Nobody's rushing you, no matter the time of day, and the waitstaff is pretty much like having your grandma take care of you. I've always had a weakness for diners. Something about the high number of comfort foods on the menu, the laid back atmosphere, and the prices that allow you to not feel too guilty when you find yourself there a bit more often than you probably should. Purity is a nice diner, but overall, I mean that in a "merely nice" sort of way. They have great decor, Brooklyn memorabilia scattered around the large room and making it abundantly clear that you can hold your head high for dining in this historic borough. And the service seems consistently better than average. If I'm not overwhelmed, it's because Purity does diner food in a very unremarkable dinerish way. I like to be passionate about my food, even if it's just a chicken salad club or a burger or an omelet with home fries. Nothing to complain about here. But nothing to jump up and down about either. read more

I was disappointed by this diner. It is always busy, but that is due to its location and the dearth of diners in the neighborhood. I waited an unduly long time for my order--scrambled eggs with bacon, potatos, and toast. The toast was not toasted enough, the potatos not cooked enough, and the bacon not lean or crispy enough. The eggs themselves were just ok. There is a little hole-in-the-wall diner on Flatbush Ave across from Crunch gym that is much better. read more

I will start off by saying that I would rate Purity Diner at 3.5 stars as opposed to 3, but I don't feel it deserves 4. My trip to the Purity DIner was interesting, to say the least. What was I looking for? To appease my sweet tooth. I ordered a helping of Banana pancakes, which came with lots of butter and syrup (thank god) along with a chocolate milkshake. Definitely above average. However, here's where I was a bit disappointed. As I opened the door to enter the restroom, I found myself staring at one of the cooks taking a piss. I understand that the place was relatively empty...but seriously? You can't lock the door on the off chance that someone will come in?? Let's just say I lost my appetite at that point. Purity is your classic diner... breakfast is served all day! That is what I usually get at Purity. The omelets are awesome (egg white omelets are available too!), and other breakfast foods are great too. The coffee is very good, and it is refilled frequently! (Very important.) I've been here with friends who had sandwiches -- all looked excellent, but I'm a breakfast kind of gal. Staff is friendly and fast. There is sometimes a bit of a wait on the weekends, but it's never very long. read more

I should have known when I walked in that the food was going to be bland, because the whole decor and wait staff was bland as well. I got the corned beef omelette, mozzarella sticks and French toast. The mozzarella sticks were frozen, and came with a ramekin of tomato juice. The French toast was on very thin bread, was soggy and topped with frozen blueberries and strawberries. The corned beef omelette was sub-par, with processed cheese that cost me a dollar extra, because what omelette would actually come with cheese. read more

I love this diner because it spacious and yet not too grand. The waitresses are super nice and you never feel rushed to order or leave when you finish. (FYI: You get a discount if you work at the hospital across the street). Food is good although their tuna club could have been a little less dry!!! (water please). The fries are great however. Purity is like the movie Super Troopers. You're not going to find great food here but they know what niche they fill and they do it really well. The food is pretty good for a greasy spoon/diner. The coffee is acceptable, I've certainly had worse at diners. I'm here for breakfast a lot, and my only real complaint is that the home fries are pretty hit-or-miss. Service is quick. Not too crowded in the mornings. Staff has always been great and the coffee never runs low. read more

The first time I ever set foot in Park Slope, way back when in my adolescent years, I dined at Purity Diner. They always let you sit anywhere, which means if I come alone with some writing, I can spread out in a booth. I love fountain soda (I call it pop, though!), the French toast, and the chicken tenders. I'm easy to please... The waiters are always nice, and when you take your bill up the register, the cashier always asks how the food was. I love that! Even if they say it a hundred times of day and don't care what my answer is. The Brooklyn memorabilia is also a nice introduction to the borough if you aren't familiar. read more

Love this place for a later night's eats. I was in the vicinity and super hungry. I decided take out some nice burgers. The lady behind the counter gave me some wonderful suggestions and I ordered them without really thinking about it. The one thing that I really did appreciate is that she would tell people the place was closing soon. This allowed them to consider if they want to go to another place ( loss of business ) or eat in. This place was right by where I was staying in slope park. Super cute neighborhood. I was hoping for a lil more "pure" food but it's your basic American diner. Was pretty busy for breakfast but there was a seat in front by the window waiting for me. My waitress was sweet and took my order. I was in the mood for a hot, crispy, buttery waffle. While waiting for it to come I was watching the guy at the front interact with the guests. He was so warm and welcoming talking to kids etc. I had to tell him what a nice guy I thought he was. I Love Purity. Yes it's not fancy, its straight up diner food. The staff are really nice, and welcoming. If you want cheap brunch (no booze) this is the place to go. Everything is straight forward, eggs, pancakes, you name it they have it. I try and support Purity as much as I can, they have tough competition across the street-Tavern on Dean (which I love too!). They are coviniently located across from the NY Methodist Hospital, which is why I found this place, since I needed a good place for some diner breakfast after a stint in the ER. This is your typical diner - albeit Park Slope-ified. Open late, huge menu, quick service, continual coffee in front of me. I have found myself coming back again and again for different menu items (everything from breakfast foods to wraps to salads to burgers to greek food) and have found everything to be surprisingly good. Not amazing, but good enough to have me come back again and again. Good prices for Park Slope, slightly high prices for a diner, but worth it in my opinion. I came in for a late lunch with my friend and we ordered 2 regular cheeseburgers with a side of Brooklyn fries. Honestly the best burger and fries i've ever had. The burger was cooked perfectly and was very juicy. The gravy that cane with the fries were also very delicious. Our bill came out to be 20.70, a bit pricey for burgers and fries. But they do give you large portions and it kept me full for a good 6 hours. So it was very worth it. Will definitely be back. Popped in today for a quick lunch. Small and quiet dinner. No Wifi! I had a grapefruit juice which wasn't fresh although advertised as such, and a basket of fried chicken with French fries. It was supposed to come with coleslaw too, but the waitress forgot and she was too aloof to come and check in on me, so I didn't ask either. The French fries were ok, but overlooked.
