When I go out for "brunch", I really mean that I want a fresh farm-girl type breakfast. I want eggs. pancakes. oj. coffee. french toast. maybe some bacon. I don't always have the energy to translate the menu choices of pork-belly braised farm fresh egg yolk rosemary glazed crepe rolled with asparagus toasted pine nut blah blah. Usually the menu description is bigger than your meal. Purity Diner is a no frills breakfast place and I love that. I love the cozy booths, fiestaware, free coffee refills! Its so simple and easy. The sausage portion was huge and it was good. The french toast was also good! This place hit the spot and was also quite inexpensive. For a Wednesday late morning, it was not crowded nor did we feel pressured to get out. We were happy to enjoy our bottomless coffee as our French Toast digested. This was our first stop to eat while staying in Brooklyn. It's a very cute little diner with a lot to offer. I ordered the "make your own omelette" and they weren't shy with the mixtures. It came with a side of potatoes and toast. The potatoes were delicious and the toast as well. When getting the toast don't forget to order the house jelly! It is soooo delicious! Also get a side of the chile verde to throw on top of your food. My boyfriend ordered the "huevos rancheros." Very different from California style of huevos rancheros, but still the same concept. Over easy egg with a fried corn tortilla. But this dish had rice in between the egg and tortilla with Pico de gallo and the chile verde. It also came with a side of potatoes. The service was great, food came out fast, coffee was nice and hot perfect for this cold day. I totally recommend this place. read more

I have a compulsion with diners. I love the novelty of being able to order breakfast at any time of day, and I almost always get a spinach and feta cheese omelet (which I believe they call the Florentine here). I've had it so many places, I'm almost an expert. :3 Anyway, as is standard, it comes with potatoes (I get fries) and toast (whole wheat, buttered). I knew I was in trouble as soon as we sat down. Our waiter didn't seem to know which way was up. I also ordered a hot chocolate, which I had to reorder after I started eating because he forgot. The food came quickly, but my omelet was watery (which is usually a sign of using still frozen spinach and just chucking it in the skillet) my fries were awful bland blocks of brown and my toast wasn't even warm. The place was cute enough inside and the price was normal for a diner. To tell you the truth, I've had worse, but would prefer much better. This was a last-minute Sunday brunch drop in, really looking for something affordable and not too over complicated. There are days where I want eggs Benedict with a fruit compote reduction demiglasse bladeblah, and then there are days where I just want a pancake. Definitely a bit of a surprise - not your ordinary greasy spoon! Cool vintage signage and decoration around the place which created a cozy, "hanging in my grandparents house" feel. Food was fast and tasty! Compared to your average diner, food was fresh, delicious, good portions, and tasted like the ingredients it was made of (no small thing!). I had the huevos rancheros - home fries were a bit dry but the huevos were tasty, nice pico de gallo on top! Wife had pancakes, light and fluffy. The 4th diner we've had breakfast in the past week and we crossed it off our list. We had Challah French toast that was about as bland as French toast can be, over easy eggs were not cooked near enough and they had a lot of slimey whites. Potatoes were okay, better with ketchup. Bacon was average. Server was very unhappy and unfriendly, the exact opposite of what we've experience in Brooklyn. We said thank you a half dozen times with no response from her. Maybe if we didn't have so many other excellent experiences with restaurants and servers in the nearby vicinity we would give more stars, but unfortunately we felt our experience here was not even close to typical for the area. read more

The waitress that attended was super sweet and recommended their "New York Style Wrap" (chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and of course BACON!!! who doesn't love bacon) and I must say I'm glad I went with her choice. It was a lot better then what I had anticipated it to be, it has honey dijon mustard and you were still able to enjoy the crispiness of the bacon. I also had their hot chocolate while I waited, it was ok. I still told them to add milk to it which cooled it down and wasn't pipping hot, which I didn't mind since I was still inside waiting for my food. I'm not crazy about their steak fries, but over all its not bad but I would say 11.84 for a wrap and like 9 fries I think the price should be a few dollars less. read more

The best diner in the neighborhood!! We eat here at least once a week. The managers/waiters are all super friendly and provide amazing service. We usually get the Julio and Slope wraps with a side of mozzarella sticks. During the winters, I opt for my spaghetti and meat sauce. Background: We have 3 boys (ages 10, 8, & 6). We usually come here after Sunday morning service for brunch. Starts getting packed at around 11am.. You will wait coming in at this time. There're 2 designated areas that can sit 6 comfortably (but may be occupied by parties less than). They will, however, accommodate by pushing together tables or chairs. The environment feels clean and airy. There's the usual trendy park slope decor. The food is above average diner food. The tomato pasta dishes (w meatballs, chicken) is comfort diner food. They cook to specifications, e.g. My kid likes all the sauces from the Huevos Rancheros on the side and they accommodated, even after they screwed up the first time when they mixed it all together. Staff is friendly, and genuinely tries hard to please. Price, it's park slope, is a bit more expensive. Typical Sunday for my fam is anywhere between 55 - 65 dollars. read more

Not to belittle diners, but there really is no reason to wax poetic about all the little details about diner food. Yes, it's usually the same fare. For me, the most important thing is cleanliness and not feeling like an atomic bomb went off in my gut. The staff/owners here are lovely, it's pretty cozy compared to other diners (i.e. trade the florescent lights for dark "wood" finishes) and it's clean! (even the bathroom!) My bf and I had the philly cheese steak (a pretty ballsy order, I thought) - but it was delish.,The fries - not a soggy mess of oil, and the greek salad - on point. Excellent choice for breakfast in Park Slope! The waitstaff is incredibly friendly and helpful. When the waitress noticed I was having trouble opening the ketchup bottle, she stopped by and asked if she could help open it for me. She popped it right open like a rockstar. Omelette and home fries were very tasty, and came with free coffee and OJ! My friend and I stayed for a couple of hours sipping refills of coffee and no one pressured us to leave or gave us dirty looks. This will def be my new breakfast spot. read more

I have been to many restaurants high end and low end, but have never been treated so disgustingly rude by a woman behind the register at Purity diner. We had just left Methodist hospital, because my 4 year old son needed to get an MRI. He had not eaten breakfast or anything since 12 midnight, and all he wanted was a chocolate chip muffin. So I purchased one at la bagel delight across the street, and my husband and I were going to order breakfast. She told us to leave, because my son was eating a muffin and drinking chocolate milk. I was appalled. I thought I was hearing her wrong. She said its policy. I said he is a baby. We r going to order food. She said its policy, and told us to leave. It was unbelievable. Where is the humanity. You have a establishment across from a hospital, and this is how you treat your patrons. HORRIBLE!!!! Better off you go across the street to five guys. I once came here quite a bit for weekend breakfasts in the early 2000s, and was happy with the food, even if the place was always too crowded to get a table right away or to linger over a newspaper. Two recent visits have shown me this place has stopped caring about its food, and is coasting on its location in over-crowded park slope. An autumn breakfast here yielded eggs ordered over-easy which included one that was 'over hard' and also looked positively abused, like after they were plated a fork was pulled across them a few times. An omelette came out medium-brown, with that bitter taste. In a rush, we had to live with it or skip breakfast. I was embarrassed that they let our plates out of the kitchen, even on a busy weekend morning. Our modest meal for two came to almost $30, after taxes and tip, which is a withering sum to pay for a breakfast that is just awful. I ended up there again on a winter evening (against better judgement) when they place was pretty much empty. My companion's french fries were the noncrispy, mealy type pressed into shape by a machine.She was very disappointed. I ordered a chicken noodle soup which either picked up a partial chill from the thick diner porcelain, or was heated unevenly in a microwave. But the real problem was the wedges of chicken which, thanks to smooth semicircular shapes of equal width, could only have come from a can. It tasted like canned chicken, too. Our dinner left us with the impression that that the kitchen is equipped only with a microwave, a can opener, and a vending machine. No one expects diner food to be 'excellent'. Certainly, the cuisine is full of shortcuts, including foods that are semiprepared and merely 'finished' onsite. Usually, the results are satisfying enough; the fries are crispy (so who cares if they were cut in a warehouse in Jersey?) and the eggs are cooked as ordered by people who know their way around a griddle and a spatula. The Purity Diner, though, has cut far too many corners and it is obvious from what ends up on your plate. Which is a real shame, because the diner has a nice , calming atmosphere, and - it is obvious - serves dedicated local regulars who may not have noticed how far this place has slipped. read more

I would love to give this restaurant no stars because I ordered lunch for a large group of people and they were missing one meal. Yes these things happen with big orders, however, I called to let them know and they said they would send the missing order. Then I get a phone call saying the sis five or to me which was a lie. Finally they said they were going to send the meal and refund me for the sandwich, nice thought, but the meal never came. 3 hours later and 2 calls the food is "on its way". There were no seats available and would've been seated in 10-15 minutes, that wasn't a problem. However, there was a table with 6 seats with one guy sitting. The manager of the place is absolutely rude and unprofessional. I usually come here while I'm working and pick up a cesear salad but the other night I brought food from home and realized I forgot my utensils. I work as an EMT so it's often hard to get a chance to eat. So instead of going to the corner deli to buy utensils I went to purity diner since I've ordered from them before and figured I'd rather pay them for utensils. I walked and was greeted by a waiter and asked if I could buy utensils from him, he then said to wait and went to speak to his manager. The manager then walked up to me and said "listen it's not about the money, it's about you taking your business else where. If your not going to buy food from my place then go get utensils from where ever you buy food instead. I'm tired of you fire dept people doing that." I then responded saying I'm sorry you feel that way but I didn't purchase my food from anywhere else I brought it from home but realized I forgot my own utensils and I can't speak for everyone that works in our dept and I know it's not about paying for the untensils but I figured I'd come here instead of buying from somewhere else. I literally felt so embarrassed he was almost yelling and there were people eating and looking at me. He gave me a fork and knife and said this is the last time and all I could do was just say thank you and leave. That night they lost me as a customer. Regardless, as a business you should always be there for your community. The location alone is literally in front of a hospital so you should know that majority of your customers will be EMT's/Paramedics from the fire dept. There's no reason to take out your frustration on a customer who is asking to pay for some dayum utensils. It was truly unacceptable. read more
