PS will jack up that rate, sky high, six months later, and it will continue jacking up the rate, again, and again, and again, until you finally come to your senses and quit this shell game. The Maryland Attorney General Office of Consumer Affairs would do well to perform a "sweep" investigation of the rental hike practices of PS and its brethren. read more

We've had an extremely smooth and positive experience with this Public Storage. The facility is well maintained, easily accessible, clean and secure. We've rented two climate controlled units and had wonderful experiences both times. The staff are friendly, courteous and always very helpful. DO NOT GO HERE !!!! This is a WARNING for ANYONE who is considering this place or any Public Storage facility for the matter. I haven't even officially got my storage unit yet and after my experience today I will NOT ever with this company. I purchased 4 large boxes on 4/17 , I got to my apartment and realized I only had 3 . I figured since I live right next to the building I can just return when I plan to actually get my unit to get my additional box. I did that today , and I was told by the first front desk manager that there is nothing that she could do and that I couldn't PROVE anything. What kind of scam is this ? And how many times do you scam people out of their money? I asked for corporate number because at this point this is ridiculous. So because you all failed to give me my 4 boxes I paid for you now have the nerve to question my integrity ?! So I called corporate and was given the district managers # which is fine. I was suppose to finish my reservation today so the location ended up calling me later in the day The second front desk lady who I was talking to was extremely unprofessional and once again accusing me of lying . I asked for her name several times on the call and she hung up on me..... Make it make sense.... what do I have to gain from lying about getting a cardboard box that I never received !!! I just want my money back at this point I don't even want the box. I have never been so disgusted in my life. I have a pretty peaceful drama free lifestyle and I like to keep it that way therefore I will NOT be moving my things here. I am so happy I found out NOW how awful this place is before I put my things here. I will be yelping again once I hear back from the district manager. Hopefully they resolve this. read more

I wish there was less then one star to accurately reflect how bad PUBLIC STORAGE is. I am still going thru the process of trying to get to someone with common sense at the particular branch on Frederick Road. They can't seem to decide weather the check was bad, did I typed the wrong routing number or had I had insufficient charges on my account. I have tried multiple times to explain that I initially payed for the storage online and that I haven't have any physical checks. I offered to show that my bank account has been operational and with sufficient funds. I left wondering how is it possible to proceed to the next step of the account information want entered correctly and why did I receive two emails that payment was received. The given explanation was that there was a glitch in the system. Now I received the call that the payment from the actual credit card I physically brought earlier this week is non existing and the manager didn't know what I was talking about but that she was giving me a courtesy call without trying to resolve the Issue. In hindsight, I refuse to pay imaginary late fee and need Public Storage to get their systems right as well as hire capable staff that is capable to think critically and actually assist customers and not only put an overlocking locks. read more

I rented a 5x5ft exterior unit at this location for about 3 1/2 years. Unfortunately, when I went to clean out the unit my items (boxes, furniture, artwork, etc) were COVERED in rodent feces...COVERED (see pics)!! We ended up throwing away A LOT of the items because we didn't want to transport things that were covered in FECES. To make matters worse - someone from the office called and threatened to charge me $500 if the items weren't removed from around the dumpster asap. UNBELIEVABLE!! I can't believe I spent over $4k to keep my items stored, they end up infested and Public Storage threatened to fine me $500 because I put the infested items in and by the dumpster. So now I have to spend another $100 to have the items removed!! I've used other PS locations, but I will NEVER recommend this location. read more

The customer service is great and the storage unit is in good shape. Unfortunately, I think the pricing strategy for Public Storage is slightly deceptive. I've been paying $120 per month since my move in date of August 1st, 2019. I thought this was a fair price for the unit. A week ago I received a letter that my rate would be increased 33% to $160 as of January 1, 2020, just five months later. As a small business owner myself, I would never do this. I've called the customer service number to voice my discontent but was notified nothing can be done. If I would have known about this price hike ahead of time I would have considered other options. Bottom line - Great service but unfortunately the pricing strategy seems slightly deceptive. read more

They need more hand trucks/ dollies . I waited for 35 minutes. Lady from front desk did help find one, but there should be way to reserve a cart, especially on a move-in date. I learned part of the problem was a customer had locked one of the dollies in their unit. If they don't free up the dolly they will be fined $500. Why would anyone think they had a right to lock up a dolly that other customers need? Selfish! read more

Do NOT rent here. They have a terrible rodent infestation. I had nearly $6000 of property - a couch, loveseat, and three rugs- destroyed by mouse urine and feces. On top of that, my mattress was ruined by mold despite using the DampRid that they sell. I had their Orange Door insurance but apparently that will only cover $250 subject to a $100 deductible! If you actually want to get your property back in the same condition that you left it, look elsewhere. read more

EZ Storage was excellent. New ownership with Public Storage is atrocious. Taking a well run place and just running it into the ground. A total shame. I found a diamond in the rough with the EZ Storage location in Rockville, MD. For years the place was run at the highest level, clean, organized and great customer service. Unfortunately EZ Storage cashed out and delivered to all their customers a royal TURD, by selling to Public Storage. It seems some of the on-site team is still involved but its likely awful for them and they are probably handcuffed from the total nightmare corporate management that appears to be Public Storage. This place was organized and clean every single visit for YEARS. Now under the Public Storage umbrella, I showed up to find 2 of the 3 operating bay doors broken! Disorganized, broken doors, difficult sales people .. . what a mess. What a mess. Run from Public Storage unless you enjoy pain. read more

Overall customer service at move-in was positive, but irritated that they raised the rates by nearly 20% just six months after moving in. After notifying the office about the email I received from corporate raising my prices, Tracy (location manager) called me to notify me they took steps to remedy the price increase back to the price I signed up with. I appreciate the extra steps management took to resolve my concerns. On another note, I recommend checking with any storage unit ahead of time to find out what type of locks they use. Oftentimes, you can avoid the 300% price hike by ordering the same lock on Amazon a week before you need it. :-) read more

We had to move to another apartment that did not have as much storage space as we would have liked. We ended up having to search around for a storage unit to hold our belongings until the military moved us again. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this facility and its staff. Upon entering the store, we were greeted by all of the employees. Joshua was incredibly helpful and very accommodating in showing us the different sized units. He explained the entire process thoroughly. After making the decision to storage with this particular facility, the paperwork process was straightforward and hassle-free. The best part (for us) was that the other staff members who were in the office, but not directly involved in signing us up was wonderful at entertaining our 2 year old so that we could complete the paperwork and have any questions answered without distraction! We left the place feeling confident in the staff and the facility to store our personal property. I hope when I update this review upon move-out that we will be just as happy! read more

5.0 stars. I had absolutely no desire whatsoever to store my personal belongings in a storage unit, and in fact had a pretty negative connotation with the overall idea. Not only did Public Storage deliver on every aspect of service and security, they also changed my entire belief structure involving storing goods in this manner. It starts with Delise who was able to answer all of my questions in an extremely helpful, accommodating manner. Then, I was walked through a clean storage facility where I was shown multiple access points to reach my unit. The unit itself was climate controlled and rather large for the price. I experienced zero problems moving into the unit from the perspective of the actual storage unit. It was relatively easy to access for both me and my movers even on a flood day. When I had a question involving the use of a dolly, it was instantly resolved by the office. I had held back on writing this 5 star review because I wanted to make sure the process was just as easy when I moved out. Turns out there were no issues there either. In fact, there was further reason for commendation as Public Storage worked with my family members to ensure that they were able to access my unit and turn in my keys with my permission, and thus they saved me a month of rent. I would recommend Public Storage to anyone in the DC area, and really, to anyone who has access to one of their units around the country. This level of professionalism, service, courtesy, and quality is an extremely rare combination for any business, and it was quite easily the least stressful component of my long distance move. read more

Fantastic customer service. I was greeted by two smiling ladies who were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about where the closest Uhaul place, the dump for unwanted items were and even offered the knowledge that if I could not get everything out of storage today I could be moved to a smaller unit or have the month prorated. The place was impeccably clean, the employees were well dressed and very stylish and super friendly. I have had a large unit here for about two years and today was moving day. Entire lot was clean, trash free, lots of security cameras and a key code to open gate. After nearly two years my belongings were exactly as I left them and only two dressers had barely any dust. Everything else was still exactly as it was left and after all that time I would have thought everything would have been covered in cobwebs but not the case. So I know these units are sealed up really good. Highly recommend this storage facility to everyone who needs a clean, secure storage unit and extremely helpful and courteous staff. I just recently moved out of my unit at this location (16001 Frederick Rd) and wanted to comment that the employees really keep this location clean. I would access my unit monthly and it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to see a Public Storage employee moping the floors or elevator lobbies, or scoping the exteriors to pick up trash or straighten something up. I've used other storage locations and another local Public Storage Facility and this location was by far the cleanest and best up-kept facility! Keep up the great work! read more

Great experience! I ended up living in university housing for a year during grad school and needed to stash my furniture somewhere until I came back to the D.C. area. Tracy was extremely nice and informative, and she will bend over backwards to help customers. She called me after I made the reservation for the unit just to confirm that everything was ok, and the move-in process was painless (well, as painless as moving can be). I had an underground unit and the access is pretty easy; the moving truck pulled right up to the door, we took the freight elevator down and used some of the facility's complimentary carts to take my stuff into the unit. When I opened it up a year later, everything was in perfect condition, with barely even any dust. The climate controls work great and the unit was clean, dry, and pest-free. During the year I kept the unit, paying my rent went smoothly with the online autopay system and I never experienced any problems. Check-out and move out were painless as well. Additionally, after I moved out, I accidentally left a small collapsible shelf behind and an employee called me to give me a chance to come and pick it up before being charged the $500 cleaning fee, which I really appreciated. The location is also convenient being right next to the Shady Grove Metro. I'd definitely recommend it if you need a place to put your things for a while! read more

It looks pretty good at first. But, you will get extra charges you really didn't think at all at first. You will pay property insurance fee for the first month, which is mandatory and you should purchase a lock and key that they provide. I really didn't know pro-rate and month-to-month that they say means that even if you vacate the rent room earlier than end of the month (it's monthly pay), they don't, never refund the money for the rest of the month, which sounds very unfair to me. I complain about this to the customer service, overall the answer was there's no refund and he said "Is there anything else that I can help?", "Not really but ...", "Okay then, thank you. Goody bye..(hang out)." I felt very bad. Anyway, storage itself isn't that bad. But, their service and policy should be improved anyway. read more

Renting a 10x10 space in Germantown , it is $50 higher than any other comprable storage in the area. The exit gate has been broken for a year so everybody has to come in and out the same gate , now the entrance gate has been broken for a month and sitting wide open. The parking lot lights in my row do not work and when you call the 800 number nobody ever answers you just get sent back to your property manager who barely speaks English and really could care less. This is a very disappointing facility. I choose this facility because of location and previous reviews. Moved my daughter back from NY. So, we needed to store entire apt of items. The staff was ok (not welcoming or friendly). However, they were not rude. So, I signed up. The facility front office was clean and bright. The unit areas are very poorly lite. Like other facilities, the lighting comes on as you enter the area. Unfortunately that lighting is not very bright. It is very acceptable, but not great. The unit itself has no lighting at all. Bring a large flashlight. The hallways are clear and clean. However the controlled environment storage sections (1st floor) smelled. Several areas had a few flying bugs (gnats). I was told they do get pest control servicing monthly. They also have a bathroom which I was told you could use during hours of access. The office closes at 5 PM. But you have access until 9 PM. They did not program my access code so that I could use the hallway to the bathroom in the evening. Carts are padlocked and a pain in the ### to access. No access to carts at all during non-office hours. So after 2 hours of loading a van and driving 6 hours to our storage facility, we had to bring our items up a piece at a time (no carts & no bathroom). When we arrived at our unit & started unloading, we noticed that a nearby unit had their door partially pulled down but you could clearly see an inflated bed with linens & blankets on it. It was very uncomfortable being near a unit that was lived in. We felt very bad that someone has to live in a storage unit. But, I was also a little nervous about safety & hygiene. I smelled food but that does not necessarily mean they cooked it there. The movers came with the furniture two days later during regular office hours. Even after using the intercom to call the front office (during office business hours), it took 3 calls, 20 minutes, and a little dose saltiness from the staff to get a cart unlocked. It was not nice or welcoming at all. The following week, my husband had to go into the office to complain about bathroom access & safety. They have since told us that our access code has been properly adjusted. To add insult to injury, I cannot afford to move again so I a stuck for a while. I can only pray that things get better. The only true thing so far is the price is not the cheapest but on the lower end. Definitely overrated by others. read more

From the moment I walked into the office, I felt comfortable. The staff is professional, courteous and gracious. They could not have been friendlier or more interested in making my experience a great one. The unit was very clean and I left with complete instructions on how to operate the gate and locks. And then they both texted and emailed me my security codes, so I couldn't lose the code. I feel that my belongings are in very good hands. So easy to load things in with an outside access unit. I don't often write reviews of places I visit, but my experience at this place just made it so I had no choice. Moving is no joke-- the packing, loading, unloading not to even mention costs associated with all of that. So when I stumbled upon this storage facility by chance while driving by with a filled U-Haul truck and 2 movers at hand (on my way to another storage facility), I was skeptic of what choices I would be presented with (having used storage facilities in past I know process can be painful). No joke, within less than 8 minutes of pulling up I was signed up with a storage unit here ready to go. I know this sounds a bit hard to believe (I myself could not believe it). Well, TRACY made my entire experience so smooth-- off the bat she got onboard understanding my storage needs and worked with me as a team player making it so easy for me to rely on her for my storage needs so I could just focus already on directing my movers on preparing to unload. I walked away from this whole storage experience feeling so good about it-- I was NOT upsold to sign up for a bigger unit than I needed (some storage places will try to push you on this), I did NOT feel scammed to pay a higher cost (Tracy gave me the best prices they had up front, no gimmicks). Overall I felt like Tracy cared for our interaction and advice she offered to me as if she had been signing up for a storage unit herself!
