We packed light but didn't want to hire a moving company to haul it cross country and with the price of gas driving it ourselves was out of the question. We'd seen these style storage units before and thought it might be a good idea. It wasn't. The day before they came to pick up the unit, it got broken into and robbed. It was half a block away from a police station too. Thanks DCPD. We were told by gentleman picking it up that we were covered through insurance, so we relaxed and started the claims process. They took there time in getting back to us and informed us that it wasn't covered because it wasn't in their possession. We looked through our paperwork and it never said anything of the sort. Now they won't return our calls or emails. To top it off, we get it in SF and start unloading it, but the dresser is destroyed, stuff is scuffed, and the unit's door is not closing. Needless to say, these things are WAY TOO easy to break into. They are boldly colored and easy targets. DON'T GET ONE - especially if you live in a city.

I was impressed with every step of the process, from the woman who originally helped me sign up, to the men who delivered and picked up my box in DC and then in Texas, and the customer service reps I spoke to on the phone any time I had a question. Every single person I spoke to was nice, courteous, and didn't mind answering my thousands of questions. The guy who delivered the box was prompt and did a great job showing me how everything worked. During my entire process, everything went exactly as planned. Frankly, I had prepared myself for worst case scenario, but nothing ever went wrong. The box held together just fine. It also survived torrential downpour--everything inside the box stayed perfectly dry. The box was clean and sturdy. The wooden sides do shift a little bit, but it was well within a reasonable range. I never felt like the box was going to pop open or anything and it held together just fine, all the way to Texas. Now, I'm a meticulous packer: I bubble wrap everything breakable, I am extremely conscious of how I stack items, and above all, I make sure nothing has any space to shift or move, even if it means filling gaps in the crate with empty boxes. That being said, when everything arrived, it was in exactly the condition and placement I had packed it in. Nothing moved around, and I haven't found any broken items. My TV also arrived in perfect working condition. The only criticism I have of Door to Door is about the tie-down loops on the inside of the crate. There are two metal loops that you can use to tie-down your furniture. Problem is, they are only located on one side of the box. I really would have loved it if you could have put two more loops on the opposite side of the box. Based on the way I had my things arranged inside, I wasn't able to use either of the loops, and that meant I had to get creative. Roseanne exhibits an I care attitude of which nearly brought me to tear's, she resolved a serious burden with truck rental while professionally processing the leasing agreement highlighting all conditions as well, walking the property and reflecting confidence and security proudly insuring we're safe. It's the end of the month, too.. My husband and I were very stressed upon our arrival, I can honestly say she brought joy to a very difficult day, and extraneous week. They installed a keypad to type in your code too close to the back door. It is less than a cart…read morelength from the door. That means you cannot hold on to the cart and type in the code at the same time because you can't reach it. Add to that the walkway being on a slight ramp. So, you can't even walk away from the cart to type in the code because the cart will roll down the ramp. If you turn the cart around with the handle close to the door you have to pull a heavy cart and not push it and keep it from rolling down the ramp at the same time, a back-breaking endeavor. The only way they could have put a keypad that close to a door is if you can approach it by the side of it, but you cannot do that either because the side is rocks and dirt. You would think they would know where to place a keypad being in the storage business, but they royally messed this up. Oh, and BTW, you get raised $100 per month every 3 months. Price gauging at its finest. Good luck. Best go somewhere else.

They offered excellent rates, 24 hour access, and very good amenities and service. I moved here specifically to get away from Public Storage. Six months later (as cruel fate would have it) Public Storage bought them out. My rate is now ridiculous (nearly 4x what it was just 2 years ago), the staff leaves at 4:00 pm and the gates lock at 9:00 pm. The bay doors are seldom working as nobody monitors the bay to keep trucks from hitting them. There have been stretches ranging from 2-4 months where the main loading area has limited or no accessibility due to drawn out insurance claims on said consistently broken doors. The elevators are constantly breaking down (I'm on the third floor) often preventing me from conducting business. Yadda Yadda Yadda. This place is a nightmare. Seriously, I cannot urge you strongly enough to rent anywhere but here. This place has held me hostage for far too long and as soon as I am able, I'm outta there forever. While we're at it. Don't rent from any Public Storage location ever. Their location in Laurel (that I moved to this one to get away from) was just as bad. They are the biggest and therefore most soulless and ruthless company in the business. They will start gouging you the second you step through the door. I've had nothing but bad experiences with them and payed thousands through the nose for my naïveté. DO NOT RENT HERE!!!

The place needs some basic maintenance. Our unit is fine enough...supposed to be climate controlled yet things rust and mildew...ok. Lots and lots of spiders and spider webs...again...ok. Rodent poop...not ok. Rodents destroying blankets to make nests under furniture...not ok. When I let the office know...I did not receive anything remotely resembling an apology, but did receive an offer of some bait to leave in the unit. Ummm...no thank you! I do NOT want to lure rodents IN only to have them DIE in our unit! Immediately began looking for a cleaner facility.

They have made several onsite upgrades during this time period, rental rate increases have been relatively minimal. Optional overnight access is very important and helpful to me, and not available at many storage facilities.
