Someone put an unknown lock on my unit, never told me when the lock would get cut, said my account was behind (it wasn't) and then had it tagged for auction. Jamie was amazing. She is in the office (before it was extremely hard to find someone on property). She followed up quickly. She called proactively. All great customer service. She deserves a raise :) I hope her supervisor realizes the wonderful level of customer service that she provided.

We packed light but didn't want to hire a moving company to haul it cross country and with the price of gas driving it ourselves was out of the question. We'd seen these style storage units before and thought it might be a good idea. It wasn't. The day before they came to pick up the unit, it got broken into and robbed. It was half a block away from a police station too. Thanks DCPD. We were told by gentleman picking it up that we were covered through insurance, so we relaxed and started the claims process. They took there time in getting back to us and informed us that it wasn't covered because it wasn't in their possession. We looked through our paperwork and it never said anything of the sort. Now they won't return our calls or emails. To top it off, we get it in SF and start unloading it, but the dresser is destroyed, stuff is scuffed, and the unit's door is not closing. Needless to say, these things are WAY TOO easy to break into. They are boldly colored and easy targets. DON'T GET ONE - especially if you live in a city.

I was impressed with every step of the process, from the woman who originally helped me sign up, to the men who delivered and picked up my box in DC and then in Texas, and the customer service reps I spoke to on the phone any time I had a question. Every single person I spoke to was nice, courteous, and didn't mind answering my thousands of questions. The guy who delivered the box was prompt and did a great job showing me how everything worked. During my entire process, everything went exactly as planned. Frankly, I had prepared myself for worst case scenario, but nothing ever went wrong. The box held together just fine. It also survived torrential downpour--everything inside the box stayed perfectly dry. The box was clean and sturdy. The wooden sides do shift a little bit, but it was well within a reasonable range. I never felt like the box was going to pop open or anything and it held together just fine, all the way to Texas. Now, I'm a meticulous packer: I bubble wrap everything breakable, I am extremely conscious of how I stack items, and above all, I make sure nothing has any space to shift or move, even if it means filling gaps in the crate with empty boxes. That being said, when everything arrived, it was in exactly the condition and placement I had packed it in. Nothing moved around, and I haven't found any broken items. My TV also arrived in perfect working condition. The only criticism I have of Door to Door is about the tie-down loops on the inside of the crate. There are two metal loops that you can use to tie-down your furniture. Problem is, they are only located on one side of the box. I really would have loved it if you could have put two more loops on the opposite side of the box. Based on the way I had my things arranged inside, I wasn't able to use either of the loops, and that meant I had to get creative. Everything is COVERED in ran feces and urine. You NEED breathing equipment, gloves, and sanitary equipment to even go into the units. This was across MULTIPLE units with MULTIPLE friends on SEPERATE occasions. None of these friends were related in any way either... This is a problem with the property. What's even worse is that this isn't the only Public Storage property that I've been to like this. In fact, it's the 2nd one... It makes me absolutely sick. I actually say the last part literally. The last time I went to this exact location was on Sunday (4/21) and was exposed to these horrible, rancid conditions. I have SEVERE COPD, lung problems. I've been coughing, choking, having nose bleeds, etc since then. This place is so contaminated by rats, rat feces, and rat urine, that it's unsafe. It makes people SICK. My friends have made so many complaints that it's not even funny and the employees and managers just brush it off without a care. It's not a joke and it's not funny. It's dangerous. It's unsafe. It's hazardous. This facility needs to be investigated and shut down by the health department.

When I let the office know...I did not receive anything remotely resembling an apology, but did receive an offer of some bait to leave in the unit. Ummm...no thank you! The facility has 24 hour surveillance, keypad and gate at entry and exit, lighting and climate control at the storage unit, and Space to unload and pickup. Wrongful sale of my belongings despite payment attempt and communication…read moreThis review is for Public Storage - 8228 Belair Rd, Nottingham, MD 21236. On January 26, 2026, my storage unit was sold even though I made repeated attempts to communicate and make payment. I called multiple times that morning and left messages trying to find out the exact amount required to stop the sale. No one returned my calls. When I finally reached an employee named Chrissy, I was told my total balance was $1,000.48 and that they would accept a partial payment of $555.00 to stop the sale. I had the $555.00 available and agreed immediately. While attempting to process the payment, my bank showed a system error, which was later confirmed by my bank as an issue on their end -- not a lack of funds. We attempted the payment multiple times. I also tried using another bank card and successfully sent $1.00 to confirm that card worked, with the intention of immediately submitting the full $555.00 payment on that card. Despite these efforts, my belongings were still sold. On January 27th, I called again and begged them not to release my belongings to the buyer. My bank confirmed that the funds would be fully available on January 28th, less than 24 hours later. I explained this clearly and pleaded with them to wait. My unit contained irreplaceable personal items belonging to my deceased parents, which are the only things I have left of them. I would not refuse to pay knowing that. I was later told Public Storage gave me "two extra days," which is not true. My account had already been closed on the 27th, and my belongings had already been released to the buyer. The timeline does not support their statement. I did communicate. I did attempt to pay. I did everything I could under the circumstances. The lack of compassion, accountability, and honesty shown in this situation has been devastating. I must say that I am leaving now that the new management has created an atmosphere of distrust, dishonesty, and lies. When I first moved my trailer, I was very happy with Donna Strickland managing the property because she was very quick to notify someone if there ever was an issue, concern, or question about my property. Since the new management has taken over, we have experienced property damage that they refused to report. It was only found after we checked on the trailer. We were told that it had been that way for over a year, which is an outright lie. I had been to my property in January 2022 to retrieve items from the trailer and there was no problem at that time. We were then told that we did this, which again was an outright lie. Our property was hit by another vehicle and the management never informed us or took a report from the other vehicle involved. They are now claiming that cameras, which were in place are not working. They are refusing to take responsibility for the damage since they failed to report the incident. They have been dishonest in the handling of this matter and have lied every time I question them about this matter. We were told that a report would be sent to Corporate but that was over a month ago and still, no one has contacted us about this matter. I will be happy to inform anyone that has property at Fort Knox Storage in Columbia, Maryland to reconsider and move it as soon as possible.
