This is a great company that does a great job. They were recommended by our realtor when we bought a new place in Cleveland Park, DC. We had a lot going on so we needed a company that could completely pack and move us with as little hassle as possible. They came to our old place and reviewed and inventoried every item. We have a lot of art and a particularly unique glass table. They gave us a quote that was significantly higher than any of the other movers, but we chose them for several reasons. 1. The actually came out to understand what they were moving 2. They explained how they would handle the art and glass table 3. They stated that all their workers we salaried employees with no day laborers 4. It turned out that the guy who came out had gone to school with my daughter so we made a nice connection The day before the move they came out and did all the packing. We were impressed by the efficiency of the team, their speed and their unity. The day of the move they showed up on time and got to work. Again very efficient and effective. They packed everything in about 3 hours. We we got to the new place they again were super efficient. Even though I paid a ton of money, I ended up giving each mover a $20 tip. According to them, although they are employed by the company they don't get a ton of benefits and they wish they got higher wages. Still the fact that most of them had been with the company several years and that the got along well tells me they were being treated well. As we unpack we are finding out just how much paper they used to pack everything. This meant that nothing broke, but it also means I have a landfill worth of paper to throw away (recycle). Bottom line was that it was a great experience. The reason I did not give them the 5 stars is cost. Ultimately I don't regret it and will definitely come back to them for any future moves, but hopefully I will be able to negotiate a little better in the future. read more

Fantastic movers and a great company overall. I sold my condo in DC and Metropolitan did an incredible job given my situation. I needed a portion of my stuff moved to one location with the rest needing a temporary home in storage. They took care of all of the above in less than six hours. Pre-Move We set up an appointment with Larry. He seemed a bit rushed and grumpy (sorry Larry but his demeanor was really the only negative part of the whole experience!) Aside from that, he explained everything really well. If you need storage you tell him in advance. Storage You pay per "crate" with Metropolitan. Basically they have this crate system where they charge you per crate based on the size of your furniture and what you're putting into storage. My stuff is in several crates and it differs from traditional storage. It's not like some pod I can go access whenever I want to. It's protected in their warehouse and if you need to access anything you have to let them know 1-2 weeks in advance. As a customer I really liked this bit because I know my belongings are safe and secure in their Laurel facility. Moving The team that moved everything out of my condo were the best I could have asked for. They treated everything with the appropriate TLC that I expect when it comes to a moving company. More importantly, they moved my oversized Lovesac which is something I've been dreading for years. To those who don't know what I'm talking about, it's basically a glorified bean bag. They are comfy but nearly impossible to move. Especially when you have one the size of mine that can seat a small army. Just search moving a lovesac online and you will totally see what I mean. Anyways! The guys had never moved one before and were a bit hesitant at first. It was one of the last things to go and they were so great at moving it (and then putting it into storage) that I can't thank them enough. Long Distance Moving Their teams also move up and down the East Coast if, say, you're moving to another state. This wasn't my case but it may be for my parents if they relocate and retire down in FL so we learned all about it. The team that loads your stuff into the truck goes with it and delivers everything to wherever it's going. So really they got you from point A to point B regardless of where that is. It's a personal touch on behalf of the company that sets them apart from the rest. Overall Highly recommend. They're a great team that provides both moving and storage options. Metropolitan Moving and Storage provided our family with great services. They showed up on time and prepared our furniture for storage. They also prepared out furniture to move into temporary space in an apartment. After about 8 months in temporary space, they moved us to our permanent space (new house). Again, they showed up on time with our furniture they stored for us and packed our furniture from the apartment we were living in. They unpacked and placed all furniture at the new house where we wanted it placed. In addition to all of this moving they moved our granddaughter from our apartment to her own place. I would hire them again if we required moving services and refer them to a friend and relatives. Moving crew were polite, careful, and friendly. read more

I needed to have two rooms in my apartment packed up and stored including multiple shelves of antique dishes. They are real pros. No dishes cracked or broken. Arrived when they said they would. I haved moved 20+ times and for all of those I packed myself. Finally being in a position to get help I was blessed enough to find Art Murray and his crew. Moved from San Francisco to the East Bay. From start to finish everything was amazing and there wasn't a single thing broken or lost. I don't understand the poor reviews because my experience was beyond positive. This company moved my husband and I about 10 days ago. They were flexible with scheduling as we had an impending ice storm. The office staff was great to work with. I've been scammed by a mover before (move was double the quote) so I'm very cautious and I do my research. I had 3 movers come out and provide an estimate. (Tip: Don't ever hire a miver who doesn't visit to provide an estimate). This company was referred to me by my mortgage broker, and from start to finish they were excellent every step of the way. A huge relief. FYI - there's a one-star review on here but I suspect its for a DC company with a similar name (metropolitan movers). There's no way this company is a one-star. They came out to provide an estimate. He (can't remember his name) was clear about costs and transparent about what items we'd be charged for (materials, paying with credit card vs check). Standard things. 5 stars there. They called a few days before to confirm and check on our packing progress (they provide help the day of if needed, along with materials for a fee). The woman (I suck at names) was really friendly and professional, answered all my questions. 5 stars. The movers showed up 15 min early, which I loved. The 3 guys were simply amazing at how much they could carry. Everything went smoothly, zero damage. They even broke down / put back together our bed frame! They didn't drag their feet or try to stretch the time. They're actually salaried, so # hours isn't a factor for them. They always pick up the phone! I called a couple other companies but we played phone tag for days. They called to confirm and when the guys showed up they were so fast, careful, helped pack the couple items I had left and treated everything as if it were their own. Met them at the new place (they were very complimentary) and moved everything in, put it all just where I wanted it and even helped me decide when I couldn't! Took all the wrappings off furniture and large items and left absolutely no mess. A friend recommended Metropolitan to me and I will now recommend them to everyone I know. Kathy in the office is on top of everything and the guys doing the move are super pleasant, super professional, and really know what they're doing. I was impressed with how careful they were not just with my stuff, but the building I moved out of and the building I moved into. They really took the time to not ding walls, not scratch stuff, etc. This could have been a stressful experience and they really do everything to let you know they've got everything covered; they pack and unpack for you. I am late leaving this review, but wanted to all the same. We read every review out there about every company we could find and decided to go with Metropolitan. Not only were the reviews good, but they were one of the few that had all the work certificates necessary. We called and they sent out a person the very next day to do an onsite inspection and quote. The man was fast, efficient and extremely courteous with ideas and suggestions and knew just what we wanted. On the day of the move, Oct 19th, the truck showed up right on time. There were two men and a truck with ample space for our two bedrooms, living room, dining room and a storage area filled with boxes of books. The two immediately assessed what to move first and like a well trained army, they had us all packed in the truck within two hours. The drive was a 3 hour drive across the state and I expected them to say they would have to wait until morning to unload. But they were eager to get there and unload. We met them there and again, within another two hours, they had all the furniture in the rooms and placed where we wanted. They not only put the furniture down, they removed all the protection, tape, boxes and all other trash and took it with them. Not only did we give them money to stop off on the way up for lunch, as the trip would put them at our new home well after 2pm, but we tipped them well because they certainly earned it. This company was awesome and we both recommend them highly. We've never had a move go so easily. Not only were they pleasant to deal with and efficient beyond all dreams, but they even finished so fast the actual cost was $500 less than quoted. BEST moving company! Our movers were Vinicio and Juan and they were quick, careful and efficient! They arrived on time and they completed the moving during the time frame they quoted. They wrapped our big items such as our dresser and our mattress so that it would be protected during the move. They brought wardrobe boxes for us to borrow, which made moving clothes a breeze! We were moving out of an apartment that had a long hallway and an elevator and they made sure that their trips to the truck were well planned out. They didn't waste any time. It was raining the day we moved in, so when we got to the new place, they had moving pads placed in our house so that they didn't get our carpets wet. They worked extremely hard to move our couch into the house due to the door being too small. They brought tools to help remove parts of our couch so the couch could fit through the door, and then they put the parts back together once the couch was inside. This company had all the tools, boxes and moving equipment needed for a move. Thy were prepared and ready to move us. They made moving SO EASY. read more

So happy now that we've settled in our new home in the Commonwealth. Metropolitan Movers helped us through the entire process of our relocation from Silver Spring MD to Williamsburg VA. The transition included a temp move of some of our fine furnishings to temp storage to make our home in Solver Spring more spacious to improve marketability. From initial estimate to temp storage to final move, Metropolitan was top notch service. Dimitri with a spot on estimate, Cassie coordinated all pricing a moves, Vinicio and Juan led the two moves, and Alberto and Jose were their colleagues. All members of the Metropolitan team were in perfect concert. Emptied our MD house in about five hrs. They ensured that all furniture was where we needed it to be and willingly moved around a few things as I changed my mind. This was our third move with Metropolitan Moving and Storage and it was by far the best experience. Eddie, who did our estimate was very honest about the cost up front, which I liked. Other companies we looked at were a little lower in price but did not offer me the same number of men or trucks, which worried me. Eddie was honest about our needs, so I trusted him. We also used this company to store our furnishings for a year and our items came out of storage in perfect condition! A team of three packers came to our home the day before the move and packed up our kitchen and other fragile items the day before the move and did a fabulous job. David was mainly responsible for the kitchen and when I unpacked the items in my new house, everything was intact! I was thrilled. On the day of the move, Gorge was the leader of the six-men crew (he was awesome!) and they showed up early, which was very good. We only had a four-hour window to move out of my apartment and they got us out of there in three hours and fifteen minutes. It was incredible how they worked. We had two trucks fully loaded and when we got to our new house, they put down runners as not to dirty the floors. Very professional. All our furniture was carefully wrapped in moving blankets and shrink wrap and not one piece of furniture was damaged! They unwrapped each piece of furniture and also unwrapped our pictures, which they packed the day before. I could not have asked for better service. At the end, our final bill came under our estimate by $1,000 which of course made me very happy. Justin, who works in their main office was a pleasure to work with. One of my son's pictures was put into storage by accident. He found the picture and brought it to us mid-year without charging us. How nice was that! Overall, I highly recommend Metropolitan Moving and Storage and will definitely use them again for our next move. I would also use them to store my items as my stored items were in perfect condition when I got them back. Larry did a pre-move inspection for us a few weeks in advance of the big day. He was professional, friendly, thorough, and quoted us at a very fair price (4 man team was priced as if it was a 3 man team). On the day of the move, the team arrived early and began working immediately. The 4 man team was more like 5 moving machines! Our 2BR apartment was completely loaded into the truck with lightning speed and then unloaded at our destination house in even less time. They hustled but also were careful with our delicate items. I have moved a dozen times, and hired movers for half my moves, and I can unequivocally say this is the worst moving company you could possibly hire in the entire DC/MD/VA area. Unprofessional and inexperienced, these movers will not only misquote you by hundreds of dollars, they will also break everything you own. Everyone from the movers to management are extremely rude, and constantly attempt to deflect blame for issues back onto you, despite obviously being at fault. They overuse expensive supplies and move as slowly as possible to justify overcharging you. Don't trust the obviously paid for/planted positive reviews; read the negative ones (on other websites) and you will notice an uncanny pattern. read more
