The service was fantastic. I moved from one side of Baltimore to the other. The guys gave me a great price and didn't try to haggle me. I appreciate that they moved my furniture and packed everything and it took less than a full day for a two bedroom apartment. I always like a full included price, and I thought the price was great. The price was pretty comparable to others, but others only wanted an hourly rate. I was not sure on how long three people would take, but I knew I wanted it done quickly to move on with my life. If they have a cleaning service too, I would have gladly taken that. They gave me a video call and gave me a solid quote. I was happy in the end. Unprofessional and inconsiderate - pictures attached. We live in the same community as Artak's huge moving trucks (always taking up 4-6 spots on Chapman Ave.) in the White Flint Station Condos. My family and I thought it was convenient since we live at WFS as well. We had a budget of $2-3500- moving just under 18 miles away. We were very curious of his pricing and thought it would be easier since his moving trucks are ALWAYS parked there. Now I wonder if he doesn't live here, why does his business moving trucks always park here?? Either way, easy money he blew. We call for a quote and led by stating we see his moving trucks at WFS condos and asked if he could provide his services but he was IMMEDIATELY defensive and asked why we are asking him about the parking - red flag, probably because he knows he's in the wrong. It is public street parking (paid but only free at night/weekends) but our WFS parking garage will be under construction from October+. Residents pay $123 a month from Montgomery County to park there. Artak's moving trucks are huge and take up so much space. Why not park further away where the PAYING residents, including the many ELDERLY folks I see park FAR away because of Artak's blind parking jobs. Winter is soon, are you going to keep parking like this?? I started to take pictures when I noticed the elderly folks who live at WFS condo walk ALL the way from the far side of the parking. There's a stretch of road with parking meter spots "behind" the shopping center of MOM's where the auto shops are - right between Chapman toward Randolph Rd - Artak should know EXACTLY where that is since he's a moving company. $1154 to move a 1 bedroom apt completely absurd! I was quoted for 3 hours they took more than 5. Moved the furniture 3 miles away to a first floor storage unit. This is twice what it cost me to move here. Update: owners reply to my post is not true. It was a one bedroom move. The second room was not occupied and completely empty I walked the movers in there to show them, and they said ok. The owner also texted me to argue and called me a liar suggesting I said my apt had elevators which could not be further from the truth. Continuing to tell me his guys moved a two bedroom apt and I must be expecting magic if I wanted it completed in a reasonable time. If they moved a 2 bedroom apt how did they fit all of my belongings in a 10x10 storage unit? That would be quite difficult with a two bedroom move. Make it make sense. read more

Rude, Damaged Property, Combative. If you want to save a few bucks, get your property damaged, then get yelled at, please use AK. To the owners reply: this sums up how they treat customers. This is by far the most unprofessional company I've ever dealt with. Not only did they damage our property thoroughly, when I spoke to the owner, Art, he was beyond rude. He began yelling at me as he thought I was the building management company. When he realized I was the actual customer, he went from beyond rude to just rude and only yelled a little bit. After sending the requested detailed email of the move (highlighted below) and damages which the movers admitted to in person and via email reply (see attachment), Art and his mover Turan were extremely combative and unprofessional. Who yells at their customers? AK does. As someone who actually previously worked as a mover, I'm stunned at the level of unprofessionalism and lack of responsibility taken by this company. We were nothing but nice to them, got the movers parking at both locations, provided them with waters, didn't complain when the move took over an hour longer than they stated and remained calm/professional in our communication. Exactly what happened: They damaged the front door, front security door, the outer part of the staircase banister which has an empty living room next to it, scuff marks throughout the staircase and upstairs hallway, and put a hole the size of my hand in the hallway. The movers stated they were having issues moving the couch into the front door. Management called and provided this information to us. However, they called after the damage to the door was done. There was never a conversation about an issue with the hallway, just the front door. After the call, we informed the movers to remove the legs of the couch to ensure it would fit. The first piece of the couch, this was done after our instructions, and the couch fit and moved into the upstairs room without any issues to the upstairs hallway. Since the legs were not initially removed as they should have been, the movers caused damage to the front security door and the front door itself prior to the phone call from management and being verbally told by the movers. The second piece of the couch, the legs were not removed and caused further damage to the front door, front security door, and placed a large hole in the upstairs hallway due to the fact the legs of the second piece were not removed as requested. The second piece, the one that caused a hole in the upstairs hallway, did not have the legs removed until the hole was made. I did a walkthrough of the damages with one of the movers who was combative but agreed they caused the damage and informed me to contact the manager. I spoke with Art who indicated this was caused by our instructions which is not true as our instructions came after the damage to the front doors was already done and our instructions were clear: to remove the legs of the couch pieces. Again, there was never a conversation about the hallway and the hole in the hallway was caused by the second couch piece that did not have the legs removed as we instructed prior to moving this piece into the property. In addition to the damage, one of the movers, Turan, spent the majority of the move on his cell phone. The movers at one point even asked me to help with moving the couch from the living room up the stairs which I did not do as this is the paid-for service and had no right to be asked or participate in the moving of property. Cons: I just need a moving company to help move my furniture from the 11th floor to the 5th floor in the same building. Had an excellent experience with AK Movers. When I requested a quote on Yelp to multiple movers, they were the fastest to respond and had the most detailed and transparent cost breakdown. When making the appointment, staff was cordial and was able to help me reschedule when I had a last minute conflict. The moving process itself was very quick professionally done. I've moved with professional movers at least 8 times in life, AK was by far the worst out of all of those. If I did it again I'd prefer to rent a u-Haul myself, they are in no way "professional" movers. Take a look at the negative reviews, this is the sort of guy that is always right, and everyone else is always wrong, and loves a conflict. The movers were not careful - one of them took out a drywall corner with a box and when I asked him to "please be careful" he snapped back - "IT IS ONLY CARDBOARD" - correct as to the box exterior, but not the drywall repair I now have to pay for or the broken glasses in the box (they didn't cover any of those costs). They were so reckless I actually had them leave almost everything in the garage at my new house because they would have banged up the boxes and contents so much I preferred doing on my own what I had hired them to do. My impression was that they dragged their feet a bit to run up the hourly total. Before the end the guy very, very aggressively starts asking for a tip, it is very awkward and I am concerned as to if he shared it with his employees because he seemed to try to do it where they couldn't see and didn't want me giving it to them directly. To end on a high note, we were slapped with an almost $50 charge for packing tape, we weren't told about this up front and we didn't ask them to use any tape (we even had some he could have used if he'd asked or told us he needed tape). By my count they used two rolls of tape - you can do the math. You can tell the head guy's worldview is how much can I get from these people, not how can I help them for a fair price. Based on some of the other reviews I'm sure he will respond with how I was so in the wrong and tried to screw him, etc. - I read some of the reviews during the move (wish I had seen them before) and just paid him and decided to share my thoughts here instead of being confrontational. If you read this you've been warned - plenty of other movers out there that are not hothead jerks that live for a fight. We paid in full without a fight and are moving on with life, but did want to warn others. read more

I've used Art and AK moving about 6 times in the last 15 years, and he and his team are fantastic to work with. Art is always responsive and has made various accomodations, sometimes at the last minute. The last move we did was complicated in that we had to combine 3 moves into one day. The team arrived on time and got to work. They were professional in their approach and took great care of the material being moved, which included appliances such as a heavy range, a fridge, a washer, and a dryer. Edited to add that instead of apologizing, or offering to refund some of their charges, these people commented publicly that we misled them in some way. We have the emails we sent where we told you about the size truck and details of our move, and it wasn't last minute. I'll post them here when I can figure out how to remove identifing info. I'll add that we didn't short them in any way. We paid the amount asked AND tipped. In short these movers complained, lectured and reduced my wife to tears. End of story. We hired these movers for our condo move yesterday. We have a one bedroom and den and we're quoted an amount around $350 and given recommendations​ about the size of truck to rent, etc. All of our boxes were packed When the movers arrived, we were treated to a lecture first about the size of the truck and instead of beginning, took 20 minutes to tell us what we should have done and that our stuff wouldn't fit, as if there were any changes we could make at that point. Spoiler alert: everything fit just fine. Later, after the fact, he asked "where are your straps?" We were told via email that supplies would be provided. Also I could have gotten straps earlier had he asked any time before the truck was 2/3 filled. I ended up making a last minute trip to the hardware store, thankfully nearby. While I was at the store, my wife was treated to another mansplainy lecture, again making the move take longer. In the end it took 2.5 hours longer and nearly twice the price, even though we paid cash. We had to leave DC in rush hour. We have used movers before and never experienced this. AK movers was fast to respond with all the information I needed when I was looking for quotes. On top of this efficiency they were the cheapest, and, for whatever it's worth, I just got the best feeling from them. I didn't feel like I was going to be hit with shady extra fees or upsold or anything--it was a really straightforward and friendly conversation and I appreciate that! Their online receipt system is handy for keeping things organized once you book, too! Anyway, the move itself was great. They said they'd be there between 12-1 and arrived at 12:15. They loaded quickly, parked efficiently (because of course even though we had a permit people had parked on the street and instead of having my new neighbors towed, AK Movers parked farther down the street in a thankfully open spot and made a tight space work for the van). They unloaded quickly but carefully-nothing was broken, nor did I fear that it would be. The first time I used these movers they were wonderful. Not sure what changed but this go-round made me never want to use them again. In short, the owner called me letting me know that part of his crew did not show up. As such, he switched me from a two-person crew to a three-person crew (and failed to tell me that this crew would be much more expensive but we will get to that). The three-person crew showed up two hours late and failed to give me a quote upfront like they are supposed to. They moved me out of my house just fine. However, when they showed up at my boyfriend's apt, to move the couch out etc. they broke the elevator!!! After breaking the elevator, they moved us into our new apartment, which went kind of okay. However, when he quoted us for the move it was $752 because they used three people to move us not two. We called and complained to the owner and he was like, "I did you a favor, making your move happen today. You should be thankful." Firstly, I put down the deposit to reserve my move time, we were in agreement for when he should show up. This was not a favor. And secondly, he said that the move would be faster and save me money. It didn't. Further, I hired movers to make my move less stressful. This move was anything but. Such a shame that they went from being a customer-oriented run business to scamming folks out of their hard-earned money. All in all, I will never use these guys again. Negative 10 stars. Hired AK Movers for 4-bed MD to VA move on 06/20/20. I told Art we had a lot of stuff. I emailed on 6/14 telling Art to bring a big truck. He said he could bring 2-20ft trucks for a $100 more - NOT included in the estimate. Art and 3 men arrived on 6/20 with 2-20ft trucks. Workers were courteous. No one wore a mask or gloves; they put stuff on the truck with no organization; Art barked orders all day, never let them take a break - my husband bought them bottled water; Art yelled at me for having too much stuff; at the new house, I kept asking that they put down blankets and he complained; they literally threw things in the wrong rooms despite clear labels and me telling them where to go; they broke my daughter's dollhouse and Art never even acknowledged it. Art stopped work at 3:20pm (charged me until 3:40pm), demanded payment and that we tip his screw. The job was 2/3 done; Art said they MAY be back 6/21. My kids and dog were with family and they left! We had to sleep on a mattress in the old house! I scrambled and found another company who came the next morning and finished; they stayed to assemble furniture and put boxes where they belonged. Art had left 2 torn up old blankets which he picked up (text messages to prove that). When I asked Art to pay the dollhouse ($166), he claimed he left 6 blankets and a roll of shrink wrap, worth $35 and $80 each. Complete lies because he did not want to pay for the doll house. He came and got the blankets on 6/21. They are 6 for $99 at Home Depot. On 06/21 asked Art to send me Venmo information for the 3 guys to tip them; he told me to send it to him and he will give it to them. I knew there was no way he was going to do that. Full disclosure - my 1 star review is associated with Art's unprofessionalism not the move itself (it was never scheduled) Art is either the owner and/or scheduling coordinator. Context - I've used AK Movers in the past in 2016 and had a good experience with the movers before. I wanted to use them again this year and was speaking with Art to talk about costs and scheduling. After going back and forth, we settled on a date and Art asked me to send a deposit fee which he told me about before. I asked him to clarify how much the minimum amount the total trip would cost which I understood could be subject to change. For example, he quoted me for two movers about x amount/hr at a 3 hour minimum and an additional x amount in service fee. If we went over the 3 hr minimum, we would be subject to another amount which I understood. All I wanted was him to confirm if x amount was the minimum amount which could be subject to change and this is where it went south.... He sent me a very condescending email saying he cannot give me the final amount because the work hasn't been performed. Initially I thought he didn't understand my question but I was really surprised by that response and was upset. I responded back that I wouldn't continue with this service based on that reply and told him it was unprofessional. He then responded back to that saying that he's been doing this for 20 years with a 98% of customers returning and has never been called unprofessional. I was very surprised to hear that response and wanted to share this to the public before anyone considers proceeding forward with AK Movers. Again, the movers I used in 2016 were good and I'm sure they are also good now. But Art needs to do a better job with customer service (and if you filter by the other one star reviews, he's definitely been called unprofessional before and more than once which contradicts the emails he sent me) read more

Preparing for a move with a full time job is difficult so at a certain point you are in crisis mode. Well, these guys were able to help, quickly and cheaply. They were flexible about our appointment so I could easily move it. They arrived on the earlier side of their window but it was perfect. Despite my not having everything in boxes (trash bags for clothes may work great when moving yourself but not for movers) they quickly grabbed everything and we got out of my apartment in two hours. They drove carefully and were able to cart everything up my stairs in no time. Most important, the proprietor was a thoughtful nice guy eager to help. We had a great experience with this company. I used AK movers for a job moving a one-bedroom apartment to a single family home within Montgomery County. The move was scheduled for 8:00 am on a Saturday, and the team of two called us at 7:20 am to let us know that they and the truck were behind our building and ready to start. Our movers were professional, worked at a great pace, and asked my permission before taking any action that would incur extra cost, such as wrapping our couches in protective plastic. We just completed a move from an apartment in Baltimore to a house in Rockville, MD. This is a fantastic moving company! AK is probably OK for short moves with smallish furniture so you may see some good reviews (and some are no doubt friends, because the ratings seem to jump between 5 stars and 1 star!!) Art is efficient I will give that - he organized our stuff in the storage very well. But he is rude and cocky (just talk to him for 5 minutes), and our experience got worse over time. We were moving a house in two steps, half to storage, half to a small rental (in April) and then reverse last week. Both times, the owner Art (a) insisted I do fixed price, then tried to save money (b) by rushing the first time (including having his folks pack open boxes that were not supposed to be packed) and (c) most gallingly, this time, sent us two small trucks (meaning it needed multiple loads and unloads) and only 5 people (who had to do the entire work - the magnitude of which Art was well aware of given that he himself moved us recently) - and the poor guys had to work for 13 hours straight without food (I offered them water and a healthy set of tips in the end). When the guys were about to quit on assembling the furniture and I told Art I'll pay 85% now and 15% when he sends a new team to fix it, he changed his tune from "I don't care how you pay" to "You have to pay fully NOW" - screaming at the top of his lungs!! The guys thankfully figured out the assembly, as that is always part of the deal - but I will say this - Art is totally unscrupulous on how he treats his poor workers and his clients, and is absolutely, insanely, maniacally, threateningly, hysterically screaming if you question him at any point (will be interesting to see if I can upload the exact recording here as he will no doubt try to dispute this). BTW, the crew banged into my newly painted walls of the stairwell and left many streaks (pictures included - but we got the house just two days ago and had it newly painted!) - but i guess by then they were exhausted. The movers however were awesome ... it's a shame as I would have loved to leave a good review, I'm generally generous on various Travel and Yelp evaluations, am generous with gratuities, but there is no way to condone someone shrieking into a phone when legitimately challenged. read more

Overall, they are quick to respond, work hard, and are fast and efficient. As for my low rating, my wife and I were quite displeased with their service. First of all, we had a large furniture item that we no longer wanted and asked if they would be able to dispose of it for us. We were told yes only to be later told that they couldn't do it. Now we're stuck with a large piece of furniture that we do not want until we can schedule a bulk trash pickup, or have someone else take it from us. Also, one of the movers tossed a small heavy box onto an open box that we transported ourselves with fragile items (including a vase with my wife's wedding bouquet), which jostled several items around and could have potentially broken or crushed some of the smaller or glass items in it. Lastly, we were a bit offended to be asked for a tip. Of course we were going to tip despite our displeasure, but being asked for one just rubs me the wrong way. We told our relative about our experience and she was surprised considering her experience was excellent. Perhaps they use different teams based on region?
