I needed to relocate to Baltimore and was referred to Orly moving. Let me start by saying that Liz who was my contact was EXCEPTIONAL in the process of preparing for this move. The cost was comparable to the 2 other quotes I had received. On the day of the move, I ended up in the hospital, and with a few friends to direct the process in my absence, it really went off without a hitch!!!!!!! When it came time to deliver everything, they were efficient and careful with most things and nothing was broken in the process. there were 3 issues... 1) they could not get a couch out of the old apartment (Even though it was brought in) and they left it and I had to pay to dispose of it. 2 )When they unloaded everything unbeknownst to me a number of items were placed in the garage. (I am in a wheelchair and couldn't watch everything. I had to pay someone else to bring them in to the condo. 3 ) I spent $250 for $25,000 in additional insurance and after unpacking I realized the tub with an essential computer for my business was missing. The computer while valued at $800 was secondary to the files and records on it that were not all able to be backed up. When I tried to find out what happened they said they talked with the lead mover and they didnt know what happened to it. And because I was still sick from being in the hospital and couldn't unpack everything quickly, they said because it was 14 days later that I could not make a claim. While the move was accomplished and with relatively little trauma, I can not recommend Orly moving. read more

Moving can be traumatic - there is a lot that has to go right before, during, and after. I have used Orly twice - once for my organization, and once to move my mom's stuff out of her retirement home after she passed away. Both experience were exceptional. The entire process from getting an accurate quote, to the team showing up on time, taking care of the items (they did the packing up of my mom's stuff as it was too difficult for me), to moving items to their eventual place, was easy. I used a different mover (found on CraigsList) when I moved out of my home into my apartment and I ended up doing at least 1/2 of the work. For my mom's move I sent Liz pictures of what was in her room, the team showed up on time after calling me when they were a few minutes out, were kind, packed things with care, and made sure I understood the process. Frankly the bar is so low for this type of work, that it isn't hard to be disappointed (showing up on time? Charging what the quote reflected?). The local team is great. Payment was easy. They work their butts off. When I eventually move again, I will only use Orly. read more

Can I give ZERO stars? I have never written a negative review in my entire life! That being said...Orly Movers are horrible! When I moved from Baltimore to Louisiana 3 years ago, they broke my grandmother's antique dining room table (which has been in my family for 3 generations), by packing the truck with heavy boxes on top of the table!! Orly Movers are still refusing to pay for it! We have been in contact with them the entire time, but they are ignoring my attempts at working this out nicely. A few years ago, my mother-in-law engaged Orly to move her from Baltimore County into the City - they were recommended by her friends at Alex Cooper Auctioneers. The team at Orly was fantastic - customer service was their top priority, and they made the move so easy for her (and she was concerned!). When we moved 2 months ago, I didn't think twice about calling Orly. Ron came out to estimate the cost and within a day or so, we got the quote, which was well within our budget. We changed the moving day twice, and they were incredibly accommodating. That morning, the team of 3 arrived and they were fantastic. I selected this moving company based on the recommendation from a friend. We moved 3 weekends ago. The move started out fine but then things started to go wrong. They broke our desk moving it out of the house. As the movers got tired they became clumsy. They also did something wrong to our sofa which no longer sits evenly on the floor, now rocking back and forth. I paid for the move per the contract and called the office on Monday Morning. Ariel, the sales person, didn't seem surprised or apologetic about my damage and simply sent a claims form with no more words. Since then it has been almost impossible to get any response from them. He finally told me to expect my desk back this week but it didn't happen. When the crew leader told me about my broken desk he said it would be an easy repair. Three weeks later no desk. No resolution to my claim. So while the majority of our items made it in one piece, the lack of customer service, and the annoyance at not being able to finish setting up my office adds to the daily frustration. If I could charge them an annoyance fee, I would! Orly may have been a good company before, but they haven't done right by us. read more

We used Orly upon the recommendation of a friend. This was my 7th experience with professional movers (often moving long long distance) and my husband's 3rd experience. The initial move from our Virginia house into storage (for one year while a new home was constructed) was fine. The move from storage into our new home in Maryland was where the problems were noticed. While moving in, a supervisor would inspect all furniture and "repair" any cosmetic damage with stain markers, something I had never seen done before. But ok... Then one of the stain markers exploded and leaked on our (brand new) floor and (expensive) living room area rug. The foreman and then another man from the home office tried to clean the rug. We were told at that point that someone would be in touch to have the rug professionally cleaned. Not only was no one ever in touch, when I reached out to Bonnie, I received no help. In addition, when I asked for an extension on the 14-day claim period (because my father went into hospice in North Carolina, died and was buried in that 14-day time period), the response was a simple and direct No. Wow.... So, despite my friend's positive experience, I simply cannot recommend Orly Moving because of the poor customer service. read more

The move back to Baltimore was "ok" in December, 2021. The issue I had was that although they accept major credit cards, they actually charged US the cost that the credit card company charges THEM. The company should do what many other companies do -- absorb the credit card fee and take it off on their taxes. We had no idea until they were there to load everything up that we'd be charged this fee and were cornered, since we couldn't get to our bank to get the cash instead. The missing boxes from the initial review were more than missing boxes. We can't find valuable things like crystal pitchers, mower accessories, spoons and forks. It is like they have taken an inventory of what we had and took what they needed from the stash. I had a bad feeling at the time that we were missing something and the owner actually challenged me to look in the truck. I guess the our missing stuff never even got to the new location. These are people that are not to be trusted. They take items that you do not normally use on a daily basis so you won't notice until it is too late. Oh well, lesson learned. Orly Moving is the worst company I have ever used for anything. They came to the house and noted everything going. Gave me an estimate then charged over $2000 more. First, it is my understanding, from a professional mover, that when weighed if the price exceeds the estimate they must tell me before sending the truck - they did not. 2nd, it is difficult to imagine that the weight was that much more than expected, especially since we did not take exercise equipment that we said was going. I actually once worked for a moving company and gave estimates of weight and number of boxes. Even without experience I was always close to the actual weight. My next problem - when my daughter signed the paperwork she told me she insured for the highest amount. What she missed was filling in the value of the shipment. Someone, not her and not me, inserted the value as $5000. This is absurd as they well knew as there was furniture, etc. for an entire apartment. They later said that we stupidly (my word for their response) insured a $150,000 +shipment for $5000. Next, when the truck arrived they told me they would not unload unless I paid the $2000+ that I still owed. I did not but I paid. When the truck was opened we found that my mother's antique table was badly damaged - pedestal legs splintered off and more. As soon as it was unloaded I called a well-known and excellent restorer. I sent them his estimate over $5000, no response. A few days later I told them he wanted a $1000 deposit, no response. I told them I was going to give him the deposit but fully expected to be paid back soon. He finished, we found more damage on the top, another $500. I sent them the bill, no response. Eventually he wanted to get paid so I told them I was paying him, no response. They now owe me over $8000. I tried a mediator but they eventually said they couldn't do any more for me since Orly refused to pay. They did offer $750. Told me they had someone who could have fixed it for about $500 but I refused to leave it on the truck. No one suggested that I do that. They had a furniture restorer tell them that there was no way it should cost that much to repair a reproduction. This was ridiculous, he had not seen the table and evidently did not know a reproduction from an antique. I have now been fighting them since Dec 2017. I refuse to give up - I will pay a lawyer whatever to let Orly get away with all of this. I know this is very detailed - I am very angry. read more

Great movers - these guys just moved my belongings (1 bedroom apartment) from Baltimore City to Baltimore County in less than 4 hours. Very polite, professional, quiet and safe. I had a few very expensive things I was worried about, but they were wrapped in tons of blankets and made it with no problems. I would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat. Also - their price was very fair. There were a few quotes I received that were more expensive, and a few lower - but my father recommended them to me, and it was a good call. read more

Orly Moving team were on time for our move. Both Ben, in sales, and the three movers were responsive to our special needs because we had paintings, sculpture, a piano, antiques, and other items from around the world that our parents had accumulated in their travels. The items were not only precious, they were of great sentimental value to us. The items needed to be distributed to four locations--locally, in-state 60 miles away, and out-of-state 150 miles away. The movers were professional in handling our items and packing them so they would not break. AND nothing was broken!!! Everything was delivered to the correct location! These guys know what they are doing and they are good at it. So we highly recommend them and would rely on them again. read more

Do not buy the insurance. They will never honor your claim. After a minimal claim & hundreds of dollar paid for insurance, they stalled & stalled until they finally said the claim was denied. I was very disappointed in their customer service. read more

Estimator was on time and professional. The movers came a week later to the office and complained that the actual move was more than what was on estimate. I explained that we would pay for the extra time, as was explained by the estimator. They complained about the file cabinets being too heavy, and almost everything else. I had to ask them to leave. We have changed offices 3 times and have never experienced anything like this. Really bad service. read more

Orly Movers was hired by my university to move a set of Indonesian instruments from Baltimore to Portland, OR. They picked up the instruments and put them in storage in June. In July they informed me that they would need to re-crate them and would be sending in a week or so. Now it's been over two months and they have stopped answering my calls or the calls from my supervisor. We have had to turn the matter over to our legal department for breech of contract. Horrible communication. Huge disappointment. Look elsewhere! read more

We had a very bad experience with Orly. They were very slow, we lost half an hour to an argument between employees, another half an hour when an exercise machine was disassembled in the middle of a doorway (so the workers not involved couldn't do anything else). Our bed frames were put together using tape instead of hardware, scratching the floors when they fell apart, and they took down (but did not put back up!) door-frames to get a freezer through. The final charge was also about $600 more than the initial estimate, even though we had less furniture to move than we initially thought. During our subsequent discussions, the owner was consistently both rude and dishonest. There are lots of movers out there, and it's difficult to imagine a worse experience or company than Orly. read more

I hired Orly for a move after several co-workers recommended them to me. I had a last minute move and called to arrange for them to pack and move everything from my 2 BR apartment in Baltimore to a townhouse in Towson. They were very professional and got the move done really quickly. There wasn't a single broken dish or scratch on my furniture. I would use them again. read more

We have used Orly many, many times over the past 25 years with good results, for both local and long distance moves. We've also referred lots of clients to them. However, our last local move with them in December was an unmitigated DISASTER. This seems like a very different company than the one we've dealt with for so many years. This time, a lot of our antique furniture was damaged, and although we purchased a large amount of additional insurance from Orly, they would not use it to pay for having the work done by a well-qualified repair person. Instead, they insisted that we use some man who I could find no information about--no business website, no company listing in the Yellow Pages, no recommendations, nothing (even after posting on NextDoor in 2 different neighborhoods asking for information). We will never use Orly again, and recommend that you find another company if you care about your furniture. read more

I had a HORRIBLE experience with this company. First, they left their contract at the apartment I was moving out of. They asked if I could drive one of the four of them back to grab it while the others loaded the couch into the new apartment. While I was gone, the three other men rummaged through my apartment. Stole $200, and 3 other known items from the apartment. I did not notice anything was missing until hours after they had left. I called the company and was assisted by a front desk person who rudly accused me of lying after I explained what happened and asked for a manager. They ended up hanging up on me. I realized I had the number of one of the movers because they called me for being an hour early. I called that mover, which is also the same one I took back to my old apartment, when we were on the phone he ADMITTED to one of his men stealing and TAKING PHOTOS of my apartment. None of these men were also wearing masks during this pandemic. I am absolutely appalled by this and how the company decided to handle it. I will never recommend or use this company again. We use Orly for a move from Pikesville, MD to Boca Raton, MD on 5/31/12. They did a very good job moving our things from our house to their storage facility. Our things were stored in their warehouse for 3 1/2 months. They could not fit all of our things on 1 truck so they did not deliver all of our things at the same time - most of the rest of our belongings came about 10 days later. We never received some tops to our pots and a few other things of a minor nature. The major problem was that our custom made dining room chairs had mold and rot from being stored in their warehouse. Unfortunately we did not discover the damage for about 6 weeks, and at that time they would not entertain our claim nor would they agree to arbitration. The damages are more than $2,000 (they offered $200). read more

On October 27, 2014 when the furniture was picked up, we asked the lead mover what time the furniture would arrive on October 30, 2014 at their new move in location; he recited the time frame of 9:00AM-10:00AM. On October 30, 2014 the day that the furniture was to arrive at the location, at 9:56AM a call was received by us from the lead mover, Julio who indicated that he was 2 1/2 hours away from their location. At 12:30PM we contacted the lead mover to inquire about his whereabouts as it was over the delivery arrival time frame that he recited. At this time, the lead mover with a yelling tone of voice denied that he ever gave us any time frame regarding when he would arrive at their home. At approximately 1:30PM the movers arrived and provided no explanation or apology about why they were over 3 1/2 hours late from the initial agreed upon time of arrival. As a result of the unprofessional behavior on behalf of the lead mover, we contacted Tom, Sales Representative by email to inform him of the dissatisfaction regarding the service and lack of professional demeanor of the behalf of the lead mover. After sharing this information with Tom, his response was to defend the lead mover by stating that "he never provides a time for long distance moving and that he works hard for his money and his family." Additionally, Tom went on to suggest that the Ropers provide the mover a 2%-5% tip and suggested that we provide it to him in cash. The primary complaints for this business interaction with Orly Moving Systems, Inc, first include the late arrival of the movers causing us undue stress and loss of time as other activities related to their move had to be delayed because of the company's tardiness. Secondly, the poor level of customer service and response to a grievance was unprofessional and lacked any form of resolution for us. Finally, the Administrator of the company, Tom taking a stance for the worker and neglecting to empathize or address in anyway the concerns of the consumer. read more
