The first time we both worked out an agreed time frame for the move and then he changed it to a later time without asking if I was ok with and he and his movers were also really late showing up to my home.I already knew no reputable moving company would ever ask for their money up front like he did with and also felt like he forced me into tipping his guys way to much money, half of which was before they stayed to move my belongings. when I was ready to go back and do a walk through after his guys left, i honestly can't put into words how many of belongings that left behind of mine and my little boy. This review was based on my interaction with Mike, unfortunately, we didn't go through with the moving. I called him twice, texted and emailed him. He seems like a cool guy, but hoping he was a bit professional with either returning calls, following up on a detailed e-mail regarding my move. Instead just ignored it, at one point when I talked to him he mentioned he gets 30 calls a day, but what's the point if you don't follow up?! Mike & five of his fantastic employees moved my husband and I yesterday from our storage unit, to our home across the street. When we had to move into the storage unit, we had to find a mover in 72 hours. To which we used a coworkers recommendation and it was pure hell. The "owner" picked up two day laborers and a truck from Home Depot, broke our furniture, screamed at me all day, and did a downright awful job. When I found Mike, my expectations were very low - but with newly painted walls and brand new refinished hardwood floors.. I was ready for a battle - but Mike's reviews were great and I decided to put my faith in him. Mike showed up with his workers and from head to toe, they oozed professionalism. From matching shoes, to clean slacks and branded shirts/jackets. Each member shook me and my husband's hands and introduced themselves. We showed them that my husband and I had begun moving things out of our storage unit to try and save them the effort - they laughed and told us they had it taken care of :) They wrapped every piece of our furniture in the same way they wrapped another customer's 18th century grandfather clock - with thick, plush moving blankets and taped to secure. They brought their own dolly's and moved our items with total care and precision. When they arrived at our home, they inspected each room to see where our items would go, and map out how they would move some of the bigger items. Watching them move a solid rosewood dresser that weighs about 400 pounds was like watching them carry in groceries - they didn't even flinch. They didn't graze a wall, they didn't scratch anything. They even put together our king size bed so we wouldn't have to do it after an exhausting day. In terms of cost - you get what you pay for. Our horrible move I mentioned earlier was only half the cost of Mike's Moving - but the quality was horrific, and we walked away with broken furniture. Mike's Moving was phenomenal. His guys were polite and efficient - militant even. They had nothing but amazing, sweet things to say about our home and were just a pleasure to get to know for the day. Mike and his team were the best. What particularly struck me is the exquisite care they took care of all items. Prompt, professional and very decent nice guys. It doesn't get better than this and I've made a lot of moves in my life. Their pricing was fair. As to negative comments posted here: Having dealt with movers over many years I think it is unfair to expect movers to give an exact estimate prior to actually making the move. It ALWAYS takes longer than you think and is going to be more expensive than you think because of it. It is not fair to ask movers to do a bad job (ie. not take care of all items, wrapping glassware etc.) They are professional and cannot do less than a professional job. Let's start with the positives -- the owner Mike answers the phone calls and he seems like a genuinely good guy. But here's the BIG negative -- extremely poor follow through. I wanted an estimate for a local move, and he came by to assess the place. He took tons of photos with his cell phone, then promised an estimate that evening. No estimate that evening. No word for the next week. Nothing the week afterwards. I finally called again and he told me they were in the midst of a busy move cross country but he will get back to me later that evening. By now, you can guess how this ends -- still no estimate, and I never heard from him again. Very disappointing, especially with so many positive reviews. I gave up and found another mover, Town and Country, instead. Larger operation, but they run a tight ship. The local move with Town and Country went without a hitch! read more

My husband & I just moved from MD to FL and used Mike's Moving & Storage. We had one mover fall through a week before our move with a tight turn-around requested - pick-up on Thursday in MD and deliver on Saturday in FL. No other company would do the move cross-state with that timeframe guaranteed - they all gave a 2-week window which is fairly standard, but didn't meet our needs. Mike didn't hesitate and came in to do an estimate Sunday, which was 4 days before the move. We were anxious that we'd need to go with a subpar option if Mike didn't work out and were set at ease the moment we met him and his guys. We have moved over 10 times due to my husband's work and have never had a better experience. Even though we're in FL now, we will be calling Mike next time we move!! read more

I just moved yesterday, and I wanted to write a review while my thoughts were fresh. I've moved a few times, and it's always a stressful experience. However, Mike's Moving and his guys were absolutely amazing; courteous and professional throughout. My move was relatively simple, but the guys took the utmost care with my property, they explained what they were doing while they were doing it, and were happy to answer any questions I had. They also finished ahead of time (of course, I'm not suggesting that is the default, and anyone who is moving should always budget responsibly), but made sure to stay until I was satisfied. I can absolutely recommend these guys in a heartbeat. Give them a call, or send Mike an email (he and I exchanged several emails prior to my hiring him, and he was very forthright), and ask him anything you need to know. You won't regret it. read more

When I called to find out about rate and expected cost for a 2 bedroom, one living room and dining room set, would be, Michael said he couldn't give an estimate at that time. Michael just emailed me a list of items with the cost (none of which I used, except mattress covers) and the hourly rate...$280 an hour. I was instructed to mail $600 deposit to secure date and time. I did. I emailed with basic information of what was being moved, we boxed all our own stuff. Still no estimate. Since I had movers before with only 3 men on the crew and it took them less then 4 hours, I estimated my own...with 4 movers and the same amount of furniture it definitely should be much more then that. Apparently I was wrong. They 4 guys show up and were very nice. I felt like this would make the moving experience much less painful....till I realized they were more interested in socializing and chatting. It was clear they were trying to make an 8 hour day out of it. Once we started reaching the 6 hour mark....I said "just move the heavy furniture to the appropriate rooms, don't worry about putting it together, we would take care of it." My 13 yr old daughter and I started getting in the truck and grabbing boxes, anything we could carry and bringing it ourselves. The one piece of furniture they did put together was my dining room table. They decided to drill 6 new holes in it to put it together and drilled it so you could open it to add the extension. So we still had to take that apart and put it back together correctly. At the end of the all this, I was given a bill for another $1200. I was in shock and since I was never given an estimate, I was not mentally prepared for it. I didn't know what else to do but write the check. I followed up with an email to Mike expressing everything about the move. Letting him know that I also feel taken advantage of and totally ripped off. He responded that he was out of town. When he got back, he would follow up with the crew. A week goes by, 2 weeks goes by, nothing. On the 3rd week, the only thing that happens is that my check finally gets cashed. I emailed him again....no response on his end. All I can say is I have no problem paying for service that I request. But I also expect at the high rate I was getting charge, the movers would be a little more efficient and ready to expedite in a timely manner...not so "leisure". I would also expect to get the full service that I paid for. To know that it got to be over 6 hours, and we still had to move boxes off the truck, put the beds the together and fix the dining room table that they put together...just doesn't leave me with the best of experiences with this company. It certainly wasn't $1800 worth of good service. At this point the only thing I can suggest is make sure you get an estimate, or move on. I know I should have been more persistent on getting one. read more

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I had a big move. We had contacted Mikes (after reading the fantastic Yelp reviews), and were excited for our big day. Well, the moving day finally arrived, and a truck with 5 super nice guys arrived for the job. We were sooooo unprepared for this move, but every single guy just had the best attitude, and were lifting our spirits as the work began. I have to tell you....the professionalism, care and dedication to the job boosted my confidence in them. This is the worst moving service that I've come across and experienced. First of all I was given a wrong quote and when the person came in to take the stuff, they added another $1000! I had to go through that because I had no other option and it was a deadlock. Secondly, It has been more than 20 days now and when I contact the customer service(what they call), no one can give exact information and whenever I call them, they say that it would be another week. Absolutely ridiculous. I tried chatting with them about my stuff and the person over phone(Stan) and the person whom I had a chat(Freddy) with give me WRONG & COMPLETELY DIFFERENT INFO and say they cannot help as it is past business hours. Now I see why this company has all great reviews on Yelp. When I was choosing a moving company, I was impressed that Mike's had all positive reviews. They were a little pricier than the other quotes that I received, but people were raving about the move, so I thought, who else would I go with?! [When I called Mike to schedule the move I mentioned the price and his response was, "do you want McDonald's or Ruth's Chris?" I guess I am one to pay for quality and convenience so I laughed and sent in my deposit.] I wanted the day to be as stress free as possible, and I would recommend Mike's in a heartbeat. They said they would be there between 8-9 AM on the day of our move, and 5 guys arrived at 8:45. They were rock stars! From the second they walked in they divided and conquered. I showed one guy around and the others were already carrying out boxes within minutes of arriving. [They said they are paid a salary, so they want to finish as soon as possible. Even though the customer pays by the hour it is in their best interest to finish up quickly. What a great business model!] They really cared for all of our furniture and decor, carefully taking furniture apart when needed and wrapping everything extra carefully. I had no concerns on that day and I breathed a sigh of relief. They charge by the hour and had extra fees for bags for the beds, as well as a 5% fuel charge. They were done in 4.5 hours and I had 3 bedrooms. I was so happy to be finished by 1PM with everything set up as we wanted it, and I was satisfied with the final cost in terms of the quality move that we received. I can't tell you how many times I've moved in the last ten years and Mike has done all my moves but one and I still regret not using him for that one. I'm not one to write reviews for anything really, especially given my wife has already written a review, but I given the greasy and deceitful nature of the moving industry, I believe that everyone should know about Mike's moving. *We've moved seven times in 10-years due to my consulting project work, and this was the best and easiest move by far! As I typically do as well, I spoke with at least 15 movers in preparation for this process...and the majority are fly-by-night, disorganized and shady...the rest want to do a good job, but just don't know how. In a phrase, Mike's Moving is the most honest and dependable mover we've ever worked with! He's not the cheapest "initially" ...but his price is his price, and he doesn't increase his price after the move begins...which 95+% of movers do. His thorough approach (visits your home, takes pics, provides a guaranteed price, and shows up when he says he will) is extremely rare in this business which is fraught with hustlers and thieves. His movers are trained, they have character, they're respectful and professional..and they are his employees...not guys picked up at Home Depot for a days pay! Mike arrived when he said he would, he packed our 4-bed - 3-level townhouse in 6 hours, packing and wrapping everything meticulously, and he moves us from Baltimore to Clearwater Florida within 72 hours, which no one else was willing to commit to. In fact, Mike committed to arriving in Clearwater by 9am on the day of delivery and was actually there at 7:30am! Mike's team was held up on a very large job in Manhattan, so Mike offloaded our truck BY HIMSELF in less than five hours, and didn't miss a beat! He offloaded, assembled and was professional, friendly and did everything possible to make our move smooth, predictable and enjoyable. What everyone should keep in mind that "Cheap Movers" cheap as it relates to the quality of work, not the price...and you get what you pay for in the end. If you do your part, plan, prepare, pack efficiently and in an organized fashion, Mike will take care of the rest! I hope this helps those out there wondering who they can trust as movers...it's a very seedy business, and it was incredibly refreshing to find a mover with integrity, honesty and professionalism in a business where deceit if the norm, and dysfunction is the standard! Mike did an exceptional job with our move from Baltimore to New York. Mike himself is a real pro and his company is head and shoulders above any other mover we've dealt with. We would never hire another moving company in Baltimore, and neither should you. For various reasons, we still hadn't booked movers two and a half weeks before our target date, right before the 4th of July weekend. We had gotten estimates over the phone from other companies but none of them inspired confidence (they weren't initially sure what getting our NYC landlord proof of insurance would entail, for example). Mike's Yelp reputation is obviously very good so we gave him a call. That reputation is well-deserved. Mike came to our place personally, took pics and drew up an estimate, and then followed up with an email and further details. He was able to fit us into a clearly busy schedule for the first week of July. On the day of our move, Mike and Carl emptied our apartment in about an hour and half. There were only two of them and they never seemed rushed, but the job was done with incredible efficiency. At one point my boyfriend said not to worry too much about a particular box because there was nothing valuable in it, and Mike's response was, "To us, everything is valuable." He meant it! All of our furniture was carefully wrapped and padded, and they were careful to point out a few ways that our own packing might lead to some issues if we weren't careful (aerosol cans in a hot moving truck, bad idea). The next day, Mike, Carl, and their truck were in front of our building in New York at exactly 8 a.m. as promised. Despite the 90 degree heat and the fact that our new apartment is a sixth-floor walkup, they had all of our things in in under three hours with no problems or damage whatsoever. Mike and Carl managed the whole thing with astonishing professionalism and good humor. We were incredibly nervous about moving to New York, but it went much better than we imagined. We appreciated dealing directly with the company owner and his employees. We also appreciated that the estimate Mike gave us was what we paid. Moving companies are known for shady practices such as providing low, inaccurate estimates, demanding cash before things come off the truck, marking up the price at the last minute, etc. -- but Mike was very clear that that's not how he operates. Fantastic company run by Mike. A buddy of mine at work hired them to move his family from Canton to Lutherville a year ago. We decided to move this fall from Sparrows Point to Towson and were referred to Mike's with such strong conviction I did not call another mover. This was absolutely the right decision. Mr. Michael Givens and his crew of men who work with him should be the mark by which all moving companies are measured. When Mike first came to our home to provide an estimate to pack and move us we were impressed with his professionalism and integrity. When the men came to pack up and actually move us we were in awe of their skill and "smart" moving methods. They work together like a well-oiled machine ( or a major league team who always knows how to pull together to do the job). They arrived on time, were exceptionally personable, and worked quickly. They were very careful about everything and wrapped my favorite lamp, things that I said had belonged to my mother,and even a jar of Worcestershire sauce with the same care. I LOATHE moving--all aspects of it! I had to find a mover quickly and called all over the DMV. Everyone told me they were booked; it was the busy season, etc. However, when I called Mike, his can do attitude had me at hello! He squeezed me in his busy schedule and was super supportive throughout the process. On the day of the move, his guys showed up ready to work! I had to be done by 5pm so I was worried about how long it would take. Working with Mike means you don't have to worry--they were done in 2 hours! They had packed my old place and unpacked a good number of items in the new place (I was moving within the same building). I called to request a quote a guy answers the phone so I proceed to tell him what I need then he tells me that he would send me a text message of what the info they'd need from me, so the waiting for the text message begins...I never received it. We have moved roughly 10 times, utilizing movers each time (including multiple cross-country moves). Having used Mike's Moving twice now in Baltimore, I can say without hesitation, that this is the best moving company we've ever utilized. The prices are fair, given how great the service is. Mike himself is great with scheduling, and you will get confirmation of dates and times. The team of movers will show up on time, and ready to work. The movers are polite, professional, respectful, EFFICIENT, and you can really see how much care they take with each of your items. They are receptive to specific requests/constraints, and resourceful when things get interesting (for instance, a 400lb sleeper sofa that is tough to maneuver and doesn't fit through the door frame). And, when one small issue did arise with accidental damage (bound to happen in two different moves between three story homes), Mike took care of it quickly, honestly, and fairly. I cannot say enough about Mike and his movers. In an ideal world, this is how all moving companies would conduct themselves. Mike's Moving is the best moving service I have used to date. Mike and his crew are very professional, and aim to move your furniture affordably and with care. My roommate and I recently moved from the Hopkins campus to a townhouse in Canton. We also had to store all our stuff for a month in between. Mike showed up on time and moved our amateurly-wrapped boxes and furniture carefully. We scheduled a date for the move to the new house, and they showed up again to move everything back in. The whole process was very effortless and everything we moved/stored was in the same condition as before. What really impressed me was the fact that we had a queen-sized box-spring that physically would not go up the low stairwell and had to be set aside. At this point, I was panicking and went out of the house for a while. Upon returning, my roommate informed me that one of the crew had noticed a balcony out of one the bedrooms on the second floor. He had hoisted the box-spring from the ground to the second floor and they had managed to scoot the box-spring that way into the master bedroom. These guys deserve every one of their great reviews. I hired Mike's Moving & Storage to haul eight extremely heavy cast-iron radiators (including one they called "The Monster") from my backyard back into my house after they were repainted and my floors were redone. Mike's showed up promptly at the time they promised, and proceeded to do a very difficult job with complete professionalism. I would describe the crew of four that came to my house as polite, respectful, positive, enthusiastic, conscientious, and skilled. I appreciated that at once, they were concerned about the well being of my radiators, my house/walls, and their own backs. They took their time and were very careful, and still managed to get the job done in around a half hour. I had to pay for a full hour, plus the "heavy lifting fee", but I can't say that it wasn't worth it for having the job done so well. Moving day is a dreaded event and my recent move was no exception. I had intended to be more prepared .... well that didn't work! When Mike's Moving knocked on my door, I was running on just a few hours of sleep and almost in full panic mode. I had selected Mike's based on online reviews only and was bracing myself for whatever was in store. What I didn't expect was the wonderful team of men who recognized a woman on the edge and guided us safely through the experience. They carefully handled everything (seriously, no dings or scratches), including taking apart a bed and moved us into our new home. They were all warm and friendly and made quick work of our 3 bedroom house move. The entire team of 5, joked with each other and us all day and completely supported our shot nerves.
