I will say this place is clean. But! Every month they would raise the rent. Until, only after a year, we related the payment there with a car payment. We moved out. When I check out they asked why. I simply told the truth. Your to expensive. The person behind the desk was surprised. He questioned my decision. After a long chat. I said "I don't need this" So he put down I was leaving due to no longer needing the space. NO! I said your to expensive. Rented a 5x10 storage unit in September 2020 at the price of $73.00 a month. Moved out on August 21st, 2023 after rent was raised three times to $164.10. The elevator was broken for 3 months in the beginning of 2023 with no discount offered for the inconvenience. Total rip-off, find someplace else if you can. The facility is very clean. I've dealt with Tyler twice. I must say he is super friendly. He anticipates questions correctly before they can be asked and quickly resolves them. Horrible horrible horrible! I have rented from this place for the past four years, and I am moving out of the space today. This is what I found - a flood in my unit. No one informed me that there was a leak or that my unit was full of water. As a result, an antique couch, framed art, linens, other furniture are completely ruined. There is mold on the couch cushions, so this happened quite sometime ago. I have tried to contact the district manager, John Harris, for the past three days, with absolutely no response. Disgraceful. There are no ceilings on the units, which means that either the sprinkler system above my unit leaked, or one of the units upstairs leaked. Completely unacceptable. DO NOT RENT HERE. ** John Harris called me back. So that was good. But I wouldn't recommend renting a unit here - no ceilings on units, just apparently a leaky roof. read more

Quick background: September 2013, we began renting 7' X 10' spot here for all the clutter we wanted out of the house, but did not want to throw away. Below is how the rent increases work: September 2013 rent: $94, March 2014 rent $104 April 2015 rent $121 April 2016 rent $132 So as you can see, rent tends to increase after Q1 EVERY YEAR. Since I have been using their facilities, rent will have gone up 40% for us. I understand that with inflation, prices go up, but 40% in a little over 2 years!?!?!?!? I was looking for a climate controlled storage, and thought I found the right price and right place - right up until walking in the door and getting poor service. I asked to see a unit and had a reservation - a simple 5 minute task to see a unit regardless of reservation. I arrived 10 minutes before close and got no help from the desk person. Just a comment from the desk attendant that the website states to arrive 30 minutes before close. That's fine - just be nice about it and don't act as if the request is unmeetable. read more

I have had a storage unit at Lincolnwood for about 2.5 years now. When I first got the unit it was around $100 a month for a 10x10 unit. Not bad. I picked a slightly more out of the way location in order to minimize cost. The initial interaction was mediocre. I had to pay for their lock, I had to pay for their insurance (and then come back and fight them once I provided my own proof of insurance; also their insurance is garbage and covers hardly anything - I highly recommend putting your unit on your home owners/rents insurance and come with proof on day one so you don't have to do what I did). All the little fees started adding up. That certainly foreshadowed what it's like using Public storage. The unit is now $160. They have no problem increasing the rent but the space has fallen into disrepair. The doors to the back lot haven't worked for weeks forcing you to bring your belongs through about a mile of hallway (not easy when you are using your unit actively). When I asked when the doors would be fixed they brushed the comment aside and said "we don't know." Customer service there is utterly absent. We were told to call the manager but that he is "on vacation, so just leave a voicemail" - we all know we are never going to hear back from him. It's laughable. If you are going to continue to increase rates, at the most basic, you should maintain your property. I am not getting anything additional for the rate increase, in fact I am getting less. My recommendation is to find another storage facility. read more

When I took the storage space it was a great deal for the 5 x 5 space. After three months of renting they raised the rent, without any notice. The entire facility is dirty, and there are issues with the elevators consistently. When you leave a message for management to discuss, no one ever calls you back. I had some issues with my payment, my automatic withdrawal was ended in error, I called the manager and he was less than helpful told me to call the 800-number. Don't be fooled by the low online price. We rented a 5 X 10 locker which started at $54 a year ago and it has now doubled to $102. So long online price. Their fine print says they can raise it whenever they wish. read more

I used to store my stuff here. Initially, I was happy with this location. I gave them about 6 years of business. It became disappointing one day when I went to my storage unit and there were roaches crawling around my stuff. O.K......that happens, but still really disgusting. They also had problems with little moths that seemed to always be flying around my unit. I really became upset when I reserved a unit to rent on the second floor and was told it was being held for me at what was a good price. When I went to go rent the unit, I was given the runaround by their employees who were unpleasant and unprofessional and told me the unit was rented already. It was the employees meanness that really turned me off. I even called the regional manager and was treated like crap by him also. I decided to leave this public storage and while I was moving my stuff out my next door neighbor informed me that a bunch of units were broken into and robbed the day before. I heard this particular facility was on abc-7 news for having units broken into multiple times. I even once experienced a problem once when two young guys walked by my unit, one trying to distract me with chit chat while the other guy was walking back and forth trying to determine if I had anything valuable to steal. That was obvious to me. Lots of bugs.....lots of units robbed.....and nasty employees.....definetly an indication to go elsewhere.... read more

I really wish I could give 0 stars. I had a reservation. Went to get everything going. Had movers coming that day. I was in a rush and had everything set and ready to go. What I find out is that firstly, the rep couldn't figure out what unit I was supposed to have. Then after he located it, found out that the lock from previous renter wasn't removed. So I had one of two choices. Rent a unit at a higher rate, or pay 50% of my movers and then the remainder when they moved me. This experience was the most horrific and definitely not a way to conduct business. I mean come on. Now I am stuck paying almost 45% more than what I actually need. I had been with this storage for over 10 years and I had vacated this past weekend. When we had all our personal Items at home and started to go through the boxes my sister and I noticed we have alot of things missing. Things that are memorable and might not be much of values but has been stolen. Everytime we went to the storage for Holidays or drop more things off around the end of September 2012 or the beginning of October 2012 My sister asked me that we didn't have less box but I just let it go. I noticed that I was being called for late charges amount of $25.00. Well, on July 2012 I went in person to pay for it and noticed that she had many slips and the heading stated (Inventory). I asked her what was the slip for and she didn't answer me. Well I thought wrong because I wa late $25.00 didn't think were going to be missing. As a first time user, I was surprised that is mandatory to pay for their insurance so expect your "promotional" rate to go up by $11 to $15 per month depending on the coverage you choose. Be also prepared to receive calls from the property manager the next day after you make your online reservation and then again on the second day telling you that you absolutely need to finalize your paperwork otherwise the unit you reserved won't be available anymore (even though the web-site lets you choose up to a week to "move in"). I guess this is common practice and I was kind of expecting it... Oh, last thing: bring your own lock, otherwise you'll have to buy theirs. Besides that, the facility looks clean and well maintained. Everything is in good working order except for a side sliding door which has been broken since the day I signed my contract. I have to say that Erica and Casey were super nice to me, going above and beyond to explain in detail all the aspects involved in the agreement. This pertains to all Public Storage locations. Their contract has a clause that partial payments will not be accepted. Since they are a month-to month rental facility I can understand if someone wanted to pay say, 1/2 of October and still had a balance and then the new month rental fee was add, but if someone pays the previous month in full including late fees, when the new month comes on they should be in their current month and peoples posessions should not be auctioned off. Are they e in the business of unit monthly rentals or in the business of stealing peoples pocessions and they say they are doing it legally. They do not deserve any stars!!!!!! read more

ZERO STARS. This facility had severe water damage from burst pipes on Friday 1/10/14 and didn't even notify me until Tuesday 1/14/14. By then all of my belongings had been covered in literally 4+ inches of water. To add insult to injury, the staff closed the facility at 6pm sharp and did not have an after hours service to answer questions or provide assistance. They also did not make available any hand trucks or boxes or other materials to help all the renters move out their waterlogged belongings. Several people had to hire their own movers just to clear out their units in an attempt to salveage anything at all. I will need to do the same but my unit appears to be a total loss, which could have been prevented if Public Storage had notified me as the damage was occurring. I think they didn't want anyone to see what a terrible mess it was and how they had not properly maintained the building. Several renters have already discussed suing Public Storage; I definately will be retaining a lawyer. One other note - renters who bought the Public Storage insurance, which is extremely expensive and the facility really pressures everyone to buy, learned that they are only covered up to $5,000. The coverage is horribly inadequate; my renters insurance is about 1/20 of the price and covers $16,000 in damage. I would NEVER recommend ANY PublicStorage facility. The overall company, in addition to this particular location, has not been responsive to renters and in fact seem to have attempted to cover up and minimize the situation. Many renters, including me, lost not only material possessions but sentimental family items and the company is only looking to cover themselves with no regard to their customers losses. read more
