The facility needs work as far as carts, doors etc., but the staff is what has made me stay here for more than 7 years. Tamika is always helpful, polite and professional. She cares about your stored items sure; but she also keeps an eye on your personal safety and needs. I rented a 10x10 space to hold some items while my husband and I work on purchasing a house. The space itself is fine for the price I'm paying. I wouldn't say it's top of the line but at least my stuff is out of the elements (hopefully, it did seem the AC was broken or turned off). Anyways, as I was dropping off my items with the help of a moving company, I followed the provided map to find my unit. There are two elevators and the elevator closest to my space was out of order. Except there was no sign on the elevator to indicate this. There was no mention of it anywhere. So my movers went up to investigate to see if someone was holding the elevator (it was stuck on the 2nd floor), by walking around the building to find the stairs. Once we deduced it was broken, it had been 30 minutes of paid time for them, and then it took an additional 30 minutes to find an alternative route (from the back elevator all the way to the front of the facility where my unit is). There was also about a dozen of other tenants there, so this created a huge traffic jam trying to use one elevator. I called and left a voicemail for management to explain the most basic courtesy for anyone using their facility is to post an out of order sign on the elevator. The voicemail I received back from Temika (spelling) was that it's company policy to not make public service announcements for defunct equipment and that they were sorry I had to pay my movers more but that is "just the process". Overall, my 10 weeks pregnant self did more to help the dozen or so tenants of this facility by giving anyone who tried to use the elevator last night a heads up that it was broken. Given the extra hour it required to move my items, I ended up paying $600 more than what I was originally quoted (3 laborers at $200 an hour due to it being past 6pm when all was said and done). So my question is are the employees of this location really that apathetic that they don't care about the 10-week pregnant woman or the 68 year old mom having to run around their facility to figure out one elevator is out of order, or are they all just that lazy? I wonder if they watched back the security footage to see just how miserable everyone was last night scrambling to get their items stored or moved on a Friday night before a holiday weekend. I will gladly be talking to their corporate office once the LDW holiday has passed. Long story short: look at other Public Storage facilities that have staff that aren't lazy and apathetic. read more

Visited Public Storage in Niles,IL. As soon as I walked in, the reps greeted me with a smile. The whole check in process was easy. I was engaged in the conversation the whole time. The name of the rep who helped me was Serita. She addressed all my questions and helped me download the app. The reps gave me a personalized experience and I appreciated it. The other rep was Tameka who was also present assisted us with the transaction. She welcomed me to the neighborhood when she found out I was moving nearby. Highly recommended! Was in a convenient location for us while we had a temporary living arrangement as we looked for a new house. Also landed on them as their pricing seemed to be competitive. But during the 2 year plus time we were there, (changed to a larger unit after about a year), the pricing went up 5 separate times. The building itself is old and beat up. The unit doors are quite beat up and take a lot of work to simply open, and elevators constantly didn't work. When we pulled boxes out, they were covered not only in a layer of dust (which is understandable), but waste material from where work was clearly done above our unit, and bugs and droppings. But the worst is the mold that accumulated. Storage places are plenty, best bet is to find elsewhere. read more

My family recently moved from Maryland to Illinois and we needed a storage unit for our furniture so we decided to check out Public Storage on Golf rd, Temekia and Mary were very helpful and treated me with good customer service. If I could give less than one star I would. The customer service with this facility and with Public Storage as a whole has been sub par. I began renting a unit there last year under the guise that I would have a nice clean and dry unit. I rented one of the large drive up units. I asked the manager when I rented the unit if there were any problems such as pests, leaking, etc when I took possession of the unit. She assured me that except for some oil stains on the floor from a previous tenant that this unit had no other issues. Upon going there last month to check on my things, I noticed that several pieces of my good furniture had rusted through and my couch when was directly in the middle of the unit had been being leaked on from above. The floor was wet on half of my unit as well. As if this wasn't bad enough, I told the manager and she told me that there was no leak, even though she came and inspected the unit and took her own pictures and told me to fill out a insurance claim. This would have been fine, except for the negative attitude she gave me. I am normally a level headed and calm person but this discovery happened just days after Public Storage, unbeknownst to me, raised the rental fee $45.00. I contacted the corporate office in California to try to seek resolution, at the very least to bring the rental rate for the leaky unit down to what it was the previous months but they were very uncooperative and said they had policies in place and they wouldn't be lowering the rate or addressing the issue and that if I didn't like it I could just move out. This whole experience has been a bad one. Normally I don't write these reviews and take the negative ones with a grain of salt chalking it up to some person who is just dissatisfied with life and wanting to make trouble, That is truly not the case in this situation. I have had good experiences with Public Storage facilities in the past, so there are good ones out there, so if you can afford to drive a few extra miles, I strongly urge you not to use this facility. Beware: They jump your pricing up halfway through your contract. I paid a full year in advance and because the pricing was jumped up halfway without me knowing my last month I thought was paid for actually wasn't. I got the rudest call from the employee at the store telling me to pay or to get my stuff out (in 4 hours). There was no understanding of the situation and the least they could've done was provide me the opportunity to get my things out the next morning. It was a complete mix up because I never knew about the rate increase but they definitely didn't have to speak to me like I was just trying to skip out on paying them, especially when they were prepaid for a year! read more
