When going through the inventory in order to book the move, I repeatedly informed the agent on the phone, Amy, that I had about 20 boxes (already packed from a previous move) and some kitchen chairs, and a Refrigerator--I repeated numerous times that the largest item was a refrigerator--. From the storage unit to my house is a 20 minute drive. The entire job took no less than 3 hours. They initially quoted me about $427 (estimate). I agreed to the estimate and signed because it seemed reasonable for the amount of work required. The day of the move, the movers show up and as soon as I open the storage door, one of the movers looks at me and says: "they did tell you about the $150 refrigerator handling fee right?" I responded no, and told him that I repeatedly told the agent Amy on the phone during the quote that the reason why I'm hiring a moving company was because I couldn't move the refrigerator myself... and she acknowledged and listed the refrigerator in the estimate. Never did she mention on the phone anything about a surcharge for the handling of the refrigerator. If I had sent them away because of my refusal to pay the surprise charge that was not in the initial quote, they would have kept my $250 "non-refundable" security deposit. This is a clear situation of deceptive practices by failing to disclose hidden fees or charges. So, having no other option, I told them to proceed with the move in the hopes that I could later fight it with the office. When we got home to unload the truck, they would not unload unless they took full payment, which included the $150. They charged $50 to wrap chairs with Nylon wrap. I called their dispatch manager and we went back and forth about the charge, and he said they would not unload unless I pay upfront. They also added another $84.5 for (half an hour's worth of work) for the time we spent arguing over the charge. So basically, they grab you by the neck and when you try to argue the charges, they threaten to kidnap your stuff and take it to their warehouse if you don't pay. Also, they keep charging you for the time you argue with them on the phone. They ended up charging me $896.48. Shame on them.

Example: I needed to change my move dates by 2 days it was incredibly easy to change it. Second example: I was having trouble opening and closing my box. I called the office and they sent someone out immediately to WD 40 it and show me how to correctly close the box. I wasn't completely bringing the handle over to the left. Third example: They issue safety vests to wear while you are loading your boxes. There are semi trucks coming and going with loads of our boxes and merchandise, so you need to be careful and the truckers need to see you. They follow rules for our safety and they do care. Make sure you wear your vest! It was easy to call and speak to customer service. Make sure you have your info ready so they can help you with all the details. I ended up renting 2 boxes from U Pack. My contents all fit inside a 12 foot moving truck that I rented from Home Depot. If you have a lot of furniture you may need to use U Haul to transfer your items. You DO have the option of having the boxes delivered to your home instead of the facility. It was less expensive for me to pack at the facility and transfer to the closest facility in my new state and rent a truck to haul the final distance. There are many options for you to choose from: Renting space in the semi, Having boxes delivered to your home to pack them up to 3 days in advance of moving or you can pack at the facility itself and save more money. The downside? Only getting a couple of days to pack is not enough time. I hope they change this in the future (two weeks would be better). The second downside was when my boxes arrived the Knoxville location didn't set the boxes completely on the pavement they were leaning against U Pack boxes behind mine that slanted them forward. When I opened the boxes all of my items came tumbling out due to the slant. This is NOT U Pack's fault, but the fault of the forklift operator who moved the boxes. I still give this company 5 stars. My boxes arrived quickly to the destination. Very few items were damaged. The customer service was wonderful. The workers from the office workers to truck drivers also really seem to like working for this company. That says a lot. I highly recommend this company for people who are moving by themselves, have to move quickly, moving on a budget, moving to another state or are even moving within the city. They also offered the best rates. They know what they are doing. Cut them some slack nothing is perfect. I had a couple small items that were damaged, but I had to expect that not all of my items would arrive perfect. Pack well and strap it down well. Happy moving.

If you want top tier storage with high security and climate control to guarantee that your sensitive vinyl record collection and high end computers stay safe during your move you're going to need a company like Safeguard. Bottom line: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Don't skimp on protecting your stuff if you have high value items. If you're just storing a bunch of boxes of clothes and general housewares you probably don't need a fancy storage provider with climate controlled indoor storage and can go for an outdoor locker. All that said, for what we were storing, records and high value computing and storage arrays along with a plethora of other sensitive electronics it was well worth the extra money knowing our stuff was safely stored under climate controlled lock and key. Location: It's right off the highway which makes it easy to get to with a large truck and their loading dock can accommodate most any truck you can throw at it. Loading Dock: An enclosed loading dock is a nice plus especially when it's suddenly started raining and you want to unload your truck into storage. Unloading dollies are provided and all were in good working order when I was there. Bottom Line: If you are looking for top notch storage this is your place. If you are storing low value items that don't need climate control then you might be better served elsewhere.

Having moved over a dozen times in the last 10 years (I hope I don't move for at least a year), Spark moving provided the best care for my things that I can remember, disassembling, wrapping, re-assembling all my furniture very carefully and to perfection. The guys were also very nice and friendly. I've had bad experiences in the past where movers complain or show bad attitude, but even though my move wasn't the easiest their employees kept their cool and professionalism which always makes a move better.
