This was my first time using this service. Customer service was amazing! They really worked with me on every problem that I came across. Example: I needed to change my move dates by 2 days it was incredibly easy to change it. Second example: I was having trouble opening and closing my box. I called the office and they sent someone out immediately to WD 40 it and show me how to correctly close the box. I wasn't completely bringing the handle over to the left. Third example: They issue safety vests to wear while you are loading your boxes. There are semi trucks coming and going with loads of our boxes and merchandise, so you need to be careful and the truckers need to see you. They follow rules for our safety and they do care. Make sure you wear your vest! It was easy to call and speak to customer service. Make sure you have your info ready so they can help you with all the details. I ended up renting 2 boxes from U Pack. My contents all fit inside a 12 foot moving truck that I rented from Home Depot. If you have a lot of furniture you may need to use U Haul to transfer your items. You DO have the option of having the boxes delivered to your home instead of the facility. It was less expensive for me to pack at the facility and transfer to the closest facility in my new state and rent a truck to haul the final distance. There are many options for you to choose from: Renting space in the semi, Having boxes delivered to your home to pack them up to 3 days in advance of moving or you can pack at the facility itself and save more money. The downside? Only getting a couple of days to pack is not enough time. I hope they change this in the future (two weeks would be better). The second downside was when my boxes arrived the Knoxville location didn't set the boxes completely on the pavement they were leaning against U Pack boxes behind mine that slanted them forward. When I opened the boxes all of my items came tumbling out due to the slant. This is NOT U Pack's fault, but the fault of the forklift operator who moved the boxes. I still give this company 5 stars. My boxes arrived quickly to the destination. Very few items were damaged. The customer service was wonderful. The workers from the office workers to truck drivers also really seem to like working for this company. That says a lot. I highly recommend this company for people who are moving by themselves, have to move quickly, moving on a budget, moving to another state or are even moving within the city. They also offered the best rates. They know what they are doing. Cut them some slack nothing is perfect. I had a couple small items that were damaged, but I had to expect that not all of my items would arrive perfect. Pack well and strap it down well. Happy moving. read more

Great communicatio. Cheaper and higher quality than U-Haul containers with zero delays at pick up. Arrived a week faster than promised. Only negative is that the container is tilted for transport, and no tie-downs are provided. Boxes were crushed from tumbling, though no damage to my items. My God... U-pack was the icing on the cake for my move, especially after the stress I experienced with other companies and their unreasonable charges. They offered me half of what others were charging, and delivery truck guys are fantastic. All my stuffs, both fragile and non-fragile things, was left in good condition. The move was seamless. On Friday, May 13, 2019, the ABF's U Pack truck was delivered to Cubesmart on Milwaukee Ave. in Deerfield, IL. My movers moved all my items from my storage unit into the truck. It was a long, hot, tedious and exhausting day. And it was a Friday. After my movers were done, I was instructed by U Pack to lock the inner wall and then lock up the truck ... that sometime later that day, someone would pick up the truck. I was tired and not looking forward to driving from the northern suburbs to Chicago. It was nearing rush hour. I attempted to lock up the inner retaining wall using U Pack supplied equipment, but THEIR locks would not fit into THEIR wall. I called the office and was told not to worry, as the truck would be locked and that I would not be sharing the truck with anyone else. (First red flag. I was not happy.) I made two trips to Target to find a lock that would work, but was not successful. I then attempted to lock the truck with the supplied lock on the pull-down door, but it was rusted. (Don't they inspect these things first?) I called the office and was told, "not to worry", that it would be picked up later that day. (2nd red flag.) I said I would not leave an unlocked truck with my possessions just sitting there. It took about 45 - 60 minutes for someone to come out with a lock for the back of the truck. It is now rush hour. Needless to say, I was extremely unhappy with the situation and quite concerned. You see, I've had things stolen from me many times. Also, I have moved many times in my life and each and every time, a box or two went missing. I was putting my full faith and trust in ABF / U Pack to get my things to my new home without any issues. That was not to be. Fact: The only times my possessions were out of my site was during the 3.4 mile trip from my home to the storage unit (there was no delay in the movers arriving at that site) and the time the U Pack truck sat at Cubesmart until it was picked up and driven across country to my home in Mission Viejo. Due to physical limitations and upcoming surgeries, I was unable to unpack all of my boxes at the time of the move. I unpacked the necessary ones and left the bulk of the boxes in the garage. (There must have been about 150 - 200 boxes total.) From the start, I felt things were missing, but then assumed I would eventually find them once I unpacked everything. I was giving the company the benefit of the doubt. Every box has now been unpacked and many items are still missing. At this time, I am missing collectibles, crystal, clothes, food, appliances, a Casio synthesizer, tools, camera, lamps, and many other items. Some of these items had sentimental value, as they were gifts from my parents (both gone), or things they had once owned. I can only imagine that many more items are missing but unless I'm looking for them, I have no idea what else was taken. I have estimated that I am out about $10,000. To say that I'm angry (and saddened) is an understatement. Boxes were obviously missing. (We had numbered our boxes when we were packing and some did not arrive.) Boxes that I know were fully and tightly packed were half filled. Some boxes looked rifled through and the contents a mess. Boxes that were labeled "Kitchen" had non-kitchen items in it. The list goes on and on. I did have some furniture in the truck as well. Every piece had unexplained stains, gouges and scratches, where none existed before. The "frame" around my tv screen has a big gouge in it. (It wasn't there before.) It looked as if someone went through my contents, moved my furniture as needed to get into the boxes and damaged items as they moved them around. I contacted the company but they couldn't have cared less. It took them almost one month to report back on my claim saying that I did not file in a timely manner. I do not know what happened. But what I do know is that I did not get all of my boxes. I don't know if the truck was broken into during the trip across country and the movers didn't want to report it. I don't know if the drivers decided to have a free-for-all and just take what they wanted. I don't know if the keys to the truck were stolen and someone ransacked my goods. I just don't know and never will. But I do hold ABF / U-Pack responsible. Take this experience to heart when you're looking for someone to move you. read more

I don't know why everyone is not using U-Pack! I recently used U-Pack to move from Chicago to Los Angeles and had such an amazing experience. I will recommend them to everyone. I was so excited to find their services online, but then was a bit disappointed when I spoke with a rep over the phone and learned that a trailer could not be delivered to my home due to city street sizes and that I would have to load the trailer at their terminal about 30 mins away. Since I lived in an apartment in the city, I didn't have a driveway or space where U-Pack could leave a trailer or a cube overnight for the 3 business days you usually have to load it. After doing some additional research on other companies, it became clear that even despite this hurdle U-Pack was the best option and it ended up being no problem at all. I was able to hire local movers to wrap and move my things from my apartment to the U-Pack terminal and they ended up packing the trailer with 2' less room than my original estimate. You only pay for what you use (at a minimum of five feet), so this meant I saved a couple hundred dollars! I packed the trailer on 9/4 was told my trailer would arrive in 5-7 business days and given the Labor Day holiday, it would arrive sometime between 9/14-9/16. I was given a link I could click to track my trailer at any time. Well, was I surprised when my trailer arrived in Los Angeles way ahead of schedule on 9/9, a day before even I had made it there! This was perfect as I was able to unload my things right when I arrived in LA and minimize the number of nights sleeping on an air mattress. The whole process of using U-Pack was so seamless and easy and the cost is incredible. It would have cost me a couple of hundred dollars more to rent a U-Haul and drive everything myself, and that's not including gas! I was so glad I saved myself the hassle. So many other long-distance moving companies I looked at were estimating weeks to get my stuff to LA, with no concrete delivery window or tracking system, moving my things on and off different trucks as they coordinated multiple shipments. With U-Pack, my things were not touched after I packed the trailer. It is a no-brainer for me, I will definitely be using U-Pack again if I ever need to do another long distance move. read more

From northwest suburbs of Chicago to Saint Augustine Florida. Ordered one UPack storage cube. When it first arrived I thought it was so small but you can get so much in them. I didn't have a lot of furniture but I had lots and lots of boxes and everything fit. They arrived on time and pick up on time from IL, the whole process was flawless. Nothing inside my UPack was broken when it arrived in Florida! delivery and pick up in Florida was a little later on their time but they always stayed in communication with me and made sure I was OK with a change in time. Would recommend this as an option for long distance moving. Couldn't have been an easier transition! read more

We like the amount of time the trailer is available to load and unload. Up to three Business days to load and unload. That's very convenient. As long as stuff are wrapped and boxed carefully, they are safe. Straps must be used for each small section to stop boxes from moving around. Furniture must be all wrapped diligently and generously so that no friction can occur. We have some small friction damages, but we can touch up. Over all we are very satisfied with Upack moving. read more

Very smooth transition from drop off to pickup but then on delivery they needed a 12hr window 8am-8pm m-f to drop it and when I ordered there was nothing in writing and nobody told me that and it had to be during the week so I had to take a hole day off of work . When we ordered it to be dropped off empty it was a 4hr window you would think they would give you the same window for delivery and that would be a standard from a nationwide company. read more

A few weeks ago, I decided to order a treadmill. When placing this order, I opted to pay the addtional $239 for in home delivery and set up. Three days later, "Dawn" from ABF Freight called to set up a delivery date and time. I could tell, in her initial voicemail, that she could go from not really nice, to bitch in a millisecond. When I called 'Dawn" back, I was polite, joked with her, and she gave me a definite date and time for delivery. Well, it was an 8 hour window...but, what can you do? Nevertheless, by the end of the phone call, "Dawn" and I were buddies. The following Wednesday rolls around, and I wait, at home, during my 9-5 window. I figured that since I'm in the city, and the shipment was coming from a warehouse in Des Plaines, I could, most likely, be the last delivery of the day. No problem; but, when 5:00 came around, and I never received that 30 minute "heads up" phone call that "Dawn" promised, I decided to call ABF to check on the status. No answer. Lovely. They're probably closed, and I assume "Dawn" is that type of employee that rolls out of the office...let's say, right at 4:59. On Thursday morning, I called Sole Fitness and cancelled my order due to the incompetence on behalf of ABF. Then, I called 'Dawn" at ABF to confirm this cancellation. She said, "Oh, we had you down for a phone call today." I said, "No sweetie, you were to supposed to call, and DELIVER the treadmill, yeeesssstttteeerrdddaaayyyy." {pause in voice} Most likely, she was confused, due to not being a very smart person. "Dawn" just verbally fumbled and didn't really communicate anything I could comprehend as legitimate words. "Just cancel the order, Dawn!" Stupid is as stupid does. read more

***********************************************UPDATE***************************************** Soon after posting this review I was contacted by Lyndsay, who put me in touch with Erica from the customer care department of U-Pack, which is completely different from the original department I talked to. Both of them were very polite and professional, and seemed to genuinely regret the damages that occurred. I wound up getting a partial refund for the damaged items. It's not going to replace the broken items but at least it show's U-Pack is sincere that they regret the damages. I don't know if U-Pack is doing anything to prevent this kind of damage in the future, but their customer care department is doing a good job. I've also taken down the photos mentioned in my original review - no need for that after they've tried to make things right. **************************************************************************************************** We would have saved some money on moving if we'd just thrown out everything instead; you can take a look at the pictures I posted to U-Pack's page. Everything was fine when we packed it on the U-Pack truck using the top rated movers in Chicago. However, when it arrived in North Carolina everything had at least some damage and much of our stuff was completely trashed. These same boxes and bins were just fine in our last move, when we packed and drove the truck ourselves only last year. What really ticked me off was the response U-Pack had when I contacted them. I wrote a claim for only our table and wine glasses (given to my girlfriend by her Grandmother, who has since passed on) and they gave me the polite version of "not our problem". A lot of that stuff wasn't very valuable, but irreplaceable to us, and U-Pack couldn't care less. I hope that this review saves someone the trouble of having to deal with these clowns. read more

Used ABF U-Pack to move my mom's stuff from upstate NY to Chicago - Simple and as easy as could be. Relocube was delivered on time. I spent a couple days getting it packed, locked it up, called and they picked it up took it to Chicago before I even got there! Had it delivered to the new place - everything was intact - emptied it out - they picked it up. Very cost effective, great instructions, just takes a couple phone calls on your part to let them know when you are ready for delivery and pick-up. Simple. I moved from Arlington Hts to Kissimmee, FL and researched different companies to use to help move my furniture and belongings. I spoke with many different moving businesses and ABF U-Pack had the best price. I discovered after talking to all of the other companies (including the container companies) only to find that even if I did not need to store my belongings because I wanted everything to be picked up and shipped to my new address, I would still have to pay a one month storage fee. As a person who was on a tight budget for the move, I did not want to pay for an expense that was not relevant to my situation. However, ABF-Upack does not charge you a storage fee if you are shipping your items from point A to point B. I also found, that most places would charge me more to drop off the transport to my apartment. The fees from the other businesses continued to add up and became ridiculous, this was not the case with ABF U-Pack. Their rates were very straightforward and I was not nickle and dimed. Moving across the country is stressful and thankfully all of the customer service representives were very patient with me and listened to my needs and made suggestions on how to make the move easier. From the truck drivers who picked up and dropped off my trailer, to the service center reps, everyone that I encountered went above and beyond. When my truck was delivered I found that because I didn't properly secure anything that many boxes had shifted in transit and I had difficulty getting the privacy wall down. I had to call the local service center and they were kind enough to call one of their drivers to come back and help me get it down. Fortunately, I was able to get the wall down without making anyone come back, but they acted as if it were no problem at all and they called to check on me later to make sure the unloading process was going smoother than the wall incident. I had a couple family members help me with the moving process and all were impressed with ABF U-Pack's service. I have told everyone I know about this company and the painless moving experience I had with them. If you are needing to move long distances, they are the way to go. They will only charge you for the space you use, they will not overcharge or include hidden fees. Moving is expensive, but ABF U-Pack was affordable and did not throw in hidden fees. I honestly can say enough good things about them. Hopefully, I will never have to make another cross-country move, but if I do I will use them again. read more

This company was professional and extremely efficient. I loaded my trailer in Chicago Tues evening and my things arrived in Seattle the following Monday. Everyone I encountered was very helpful. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is that so far at least 2 boxes and one cabinet have arrived wet...memorabilia from my childhood got ruined, and there is a lot of mold/mildew on the cabinet, which was completely wrapped in a new moving blanket plus a layer of bubblewrap. I found I had to buy the rachet tie downs and the moving blankets, since UPACK doesn't supply anything but the trailer. But their cost was half what a full-service move would have cost. read more

I have to disagree with Scott. I had to move some stuff from DC to Chicago. ABF U-Pack was the best thing that could be. I had a wonderful experience on both sides and made the most cost efficient move I could have - certainly cheaper than renting a truck and driving back myself. If you want a full service move, don't use them. That isn't what they do. But if you want an economical way to get you things across country without being gouged by either the truck rental companies or the full service moving companies, these people are for you. read more

We have moved a number of times and used Uhaul over and over. We were tired of driving and towing our cars. When we looked at moving companies the last two moves, UPACK WAS Amazing. Great price, easy because they bring it to you give you plenty of time to pack and once we were packed one call and they picked up the units. They do the driving so the fuel is already included in our quote. That left us with enjoying the drive in our own cars with everyone in our family with us. Our last two moves were from Chicago & Minneapolis all the way to North Carolina. Our stuff was here before we were but again that was great because of the amount of time they allowed us to have our pod delivered Still allowed us to drive at our own pace and enjoy the time with each other. WILL NEVER USE ANOTHER method because UPACK is terrific, fast, easy and very affordable. read more

So I recently moved from Chicago to Denver. I didn't have many things, probably just a little less than a typical one bedroom apartment. So I wasn't looking to spend too much money since it was such a small move. However, this was my first out of state move. I spent weeks researching moving companies which was pretty frustrating. Maybe it's just me being OCD but I wanted to make sure the company had good reviews and that was surprisingly very hard to find. If they were rated well on one website, then they were rated terribly on another. I originally was going to use a moving company to do the full move (pack my stuff, ship them, deliver, and unpack) but due to the lack of good reviews for those types of companies, I decided to go with a local moving company and then use Upack for the shipping. I am SO happy with this decision. Upack couldn't deliver the box to my house due to my zip code and Chicago regulation. So I had to go to the Des Plaines location to pack up my stuff. I thought it would be a pain but it went very smoothly. They shipped my relocube right away, and it got to Denver in 2 days!!!! Originally I paid for 30 days storage but once I got to Denver, I was able to find an apartment really quickly so I wanted them to deliver it the next day and refund me for the storage. They did this with no problem at all!! In less than 24 hours, I was able to get my things, and was refunded the storage fee. Packed my things in the cube on a Monday, they shipped it on Tuesday, it arrived on Thursday, I called Friday to have it delivered Saturday, and then called to have it picked up on Sunday. I had a friend help me unload my things but they due have referrals for local moving companies to help with the loading and unloading. None of my things were damaged either! So I guess in short, they were super fast with the shipping, customer service was great (I called about 5 different times with questions haha), the price was great [$1200 including taxes and all for terminal (des plaines) to door (my apartment in Denver) delivery)], and they were flexible about changing my order (refunding for the storage fee), they took care of my things (nothing was damaged!). I would highly recommend them. If you're thinking whether it's worth to split up the move by using more than one company- it definitely was for me! read more

Moving across the country is very stressful. U-Pack's service and staff made the move go smoothly. Competitive prices are not the only driving force. It was the exceptional service from other family members referrals. The trailer arrived on time, and the driver in Illinois was very professional and considerate about damaging the driveway, or any of the property (trees, house, etc.) Once we received the trailer, a series of challenges started: my husband was injured, then he got the Covid virus; we had to move out of our sold home and were quarantined for a few weeks. In Boise, Idaho, The manager of this office was wonderful. Jason Marshall understood we were in a very unusual predicament and helped hold our trailer. Once we were able to arrive in ID. the trailer was delivered. Again, a very nice, professional, and considerate driver, came to our door. The trailer was emptied much easier and faster than loaded. I called the office, and once again, Jason provided great service; the trailer was picked up immediately. It was about 4' in the street, so everyone was pleased it was off the street. "The art of money theft" This is how I would start my review. 1- they charged me $300 extra. 2- when I made the reservation, they took my CC information to keep on file and confirmed that they will not charge me anything and I will have to either pay by a check or online. The next morning they charged my CC the full amount without any advance notice. 3- When I went to pick up my furniture and stuff, I found everything is drowned in water. We were not able to pick up the furniture easily because everything was dropping water. All my wooden furniture was damaged. My white shirts got dye by transferring from other cloth because everything was wet. Worst moving company, I wouldn't deal with them for my next move, and I wouldn't recommend them. read more

Excellent option for cross country moving!! Was cheapest option too! In Chicago- had to load at warehouse due to city ordinance but used local movers to do that and was very easy and stress free. Transit time was fast! Once in Virginia, called them and boxes delivered to parking spot (2 boxes fit in spot) , had 3 days to unload and gave them a call and they picked them up next day!! Very satisfied with the service. Only 2 things were damaged and it was due to the loading by the movers (they placed a heavier box on a fragile box which had lamp shades in it and corners of table worn down a little- should have put more padding on corners since table probably was shifting a bit). Would definitely recommend using u-pack!!!!! Every one I dealt with was top - notch!!! read more

I needed a more cost concious method of moving from Chicago to another state and Upack really fit the bill. They suggested EMS movers to get my belongings from the city to their distribution yard, where the trailer was ready to load and The trailer made it to the desintation timely. My only minor negatives were the timeliness if the drop off and pick up of the trailer at my house and that the trailer (either through tranist or other is dirty) so things need to be well packed and covered. As long as that is done things were delivered well. Pack things tight! read more

I have used U-Pack Moving Service couple of times (freight/reclocubes) and their services has been great. I would highly recommend them to people. They are upfront with their prices and very reasonable. Communication is superb, especially when you call customer service representatives. They send you text messages alerts when delivery is approaching. Delivery is punctual and on time. The containers are metal....very sturdy/durable unlike other plastic or wooden containers. I think not many individuals are aware of U Pack Moving Services because they are not highly advertised like others. read more

When making a delivery one of the drivers representing ABF Freight System hit my parked car in front of my workplace. The driver ran away. I was able to find out through security cameras what had happened. After I reported the accident I was approached by the branch manager and he came by to take the pictures of the rear bumper damage. I have submitted the estimate from the auto mechanic repair shop for over $1,100.00 and I was told that it will be taken care of. The actual accident happened on May 14th, 2014. After many phone calls and emails I have not received any response. Only response from the branch manager was that someone will contact me on the same day or soon. That never happened. I understand the accidents often happen, but I cannot wait any longer. It is the middle of August and I would really appreciate if the problem would be solved. read more

Buyer Berware! They overcharged the credit card. They aren't open on weekends to retrieve your things. And seems like they will make it as difficult as possible to have any other moving company retrieve your stuff so that they can charge you their exorbitant fees to do it.
