I have never used storage before. All questions were easily answered, and the online portion was easy to understand.

Bait and switch pricing. They quote $164 online, then after I sign up, send an email 'confirming' my reservation at $196. They offer first month for $1, plus a $24 admin fee for estimated first month rent of $25. Then they require you to buy their sh*tty little cylinder lock for another mandatory $25. The $164 was upped to $173 after I signed up (because I was between a rock and a hard place), but the pictures (if I can post) speak a thousand words. read more

Public Storage has an excellent location and a well-maintained, safe, clean, and accessible property. The staff in the office are patient, kind, and responsive. However, there are a few things that company policy probably dictates that can potentially create a lot of inconvenience: they do not have any way to cut a lock off a unit, so if you lose your key, you must hire a locksmith for immediate access or wait for their locksmith to come by on his monthly visit; there are handcarts available, but they are in the office, which sits outside the gate and relatively distant to the units. read more

Gaby is amazing. I was *that* customer that showed up ten minutes to closing and she showed me the unit and let me sign the lease. She went above and beyond and remained professional and friendly...even though I'm sure she was very annoyed with me (she showed no sign of it though). Remarkably grateful that she did that. My unit wasn't particularly clean when I got it (socks on ground, random pieces of wood and plastic, dirt on floor throughout), but I chose to just sweep it up rather than bother Gaby. Again, very grateful for her. Had it not been for her, I'd probably give 3-4 stars, as I called numerous times and nobody answered (if one staff member is showing a person a unit, there should be a staff member inside to answer the phone) and the mess in my unit. read more

DO NOT go to this location! Had my stuff stored here while my wife was deployed to Afghanistan. When we decided to move out found many of our items, including our dresser, had huge mold growth on the bottom of the furniture pieces. We also saw mold on the wall where it looked like the mold had come from the unit next door. All we got from the management was a that is what insurance is for. So be aware if you decide to rent here! read more

Having a terrible experience with the 7208 Fordson Road location. They called me to let me know that the AC system in front of my unit was leaking. I get to the storage unit after hours and see that it's still leaking. They placed one bucket under the AC unit and one of my boxes was wet. I've been calling and calling the property manager, only spoken to her once and she never called me back! I'm trying to get my things moved to inspect the damage and there's never anyone in the office. I am completely frustrated. read more

After agreeing on a monthly rate for 6 months, I receive an email after only 3 months informing me that my rate needs to increase. Not just by a few dollars either. They have entrapped us because they know the cost of transferring to another place is more of a hassle than paying the increased rate. I was warned that Public Storage would do this - but too late. Excellent Customer Service - Clean and tidy facility. What a great experience we had at Public Storage today - location 08156 at 7208 Fordson Road, Alexandria, VA 22306! Manager Ramsey and her colleague, Heather, were terrific. We had gone online yesterday to review storage units and we reserved one at this location. Ramsey called this morning and was very informative and friendly on the phone. We drove over this afternoon, and met Ramsey and her colleague, Heather, who welcomed us warmly. Heather provided a tour of the property and then, back at the office, both she and Ramsey gave us all the details one would want about the facility in a well organized, informative and friendly presentation. We signed our lease; everything was thoroughly explained throughout the process in a very professional manner. We have never leased a storage unit before, so this was all new to us. We are downsizing from a large home to a condo and needed extra space. They made everything clear and were so helpful. Heather took us to our storage unit and we were very impressed to see how secure, clean, tidy and well lit the facility is. We really appreciated that. In summary, we highly recommend this Public Storage location and we want to applaud Ramsey and Heather for their excellent customer service. DO NOT use Public storage. While, the place is clean and the service was pretty good, the corporate pricing policies are criminal. After just eight months in my storage facility I get a letter from public storage saying my rent is going to increase by 20%. I inquired about the increase, And I was told that every 6 to 8 months there are price increases and the reason is the market value increases. I find it hard to believe that the market value has increased by 20% if none of the other storage facilities have raised their prices. It is a classic bait and switch. read more

For public storage to be one of the most expensive storage places it has TERRIBLE customer service. They lie and try to sneak fees on you one person says this another says that. I had an email with reservation with the price when I get to the place they raise it 50%. They need to be more transparent with customers. As a small business owner I would never try to pull the bait and switch but their ratings show how they are. They have false information up of the district manager. The district manager doesn't answer or return calls of their customers. I asked for a cart to move my things she said she had one. After I paid I asked for a cart and she said oh you will have to find it yourself around the property. I can't believe they would expect a customer to have to find a cart on their property. read more

There are not many companies that I can't stand giving my money to but Public Storage is one of them. They are the only company that I can think of that actually treat their long term customers worse than new customers. Every 6 months or so you WILL get a rate increase. They say that this increase is because that is the going rate for that size unit presently but a quick web search for the same unit in that location will show you that is not the case. I have called the customer service reps about this time and again only to be told that this is the "company policy". When stated that other Public Storage places in the area charge half the rate they say to move there instead of just offering the same rate and saving me the move. I eventually had to close one of my two units because of the rate increase and now have to close my last. I can't think of any other company that if told "You are forcing me to go to your competition" that they wouldn't try every method possible to keep you as a customer. Instead Public Storage says "Sorry, nothing we can do". It's one step away from being criminal and I hope that one day storage unit companies have to face charges for what they do. read more

This a review on company policy. We are moving out because, after being a customer for 10 years, the rates have gotten sky high with no regard for customer loyalty. Rates have increased substantially year after year. We are charged for a month on the 1st of every month, and we are moving out on the 2nd. Public Storage ask's for 2 days notice. If we give notice on the 2nd, we are still charged for the rest of the month with no prorating. This means they get our money for the rest of the month after our notice and then they can turn around and immediately rent to a new customer for the time we had to paid for. If we moved out on the 1st, we would still have to pay for the whole month. What a ripoff! read more

DO NOT RENT HERE!!!! I've had multiple storage units at many different locations and have never been treated as poorly as here. I've had my items with them for years and only reason I have not moved is because of my poor health. They force you to purchase their lock and then if u fall behind not even 2 months they will cut the lock enter your unit (before they legally are able to take possession) and then force you to purchase a new lock from them again!!!! Heaven forbid you have some type of emergency like being hospitalized for a month and have 3 surgeries and ask them for 1 extra day to get them paid in full because they won't, they don't care, they won't work with you at all! Oh and ask to speak to a general manager their response "she doesn't want to speak with you, you can pass any information along through me and she will tell me what to say". Could care less if they have your business or not! Their response to asking to pay Friday a.m. instead of Thursday a.m. (That's one day difference) "Borrow the money from someone and if you want to move out we only need 2 days notice once your at a 0 balance of course"! NEVER WILL I RECOMMEND THEM! NEVER WILL I GO TO THEM AGAIN! And as soon as I'm healthy enough I will be vacating. Not like it really matters they could care less that I've been a customer for 3 years. Last but not least anytime that I have to go to the location to make a payment so I'm not charged the 50% late fee the office is ALWAYS closed! "Back in an hour" sign posted!
