The location of the facility is in the center of Old Town, Alexandria. The property is always clean and well maintained. Property manager is always pleasant and helpful. My only dislike is there is so much construction going on around the neighborhood, in particular on all sides of the storage building. I should have read the other reviews before getting a space here. I rented a unit at $71/month in January 2023 and I got a notice that they were going to increase it to $142/month starting May 2023 because they're able to do that with web rates (doubled?!). No where on the website does it say they rate you're paying is temporary/promotional - in fact, my receipt says no promo or discount was applied. A warning to others to look around before using this company! When I called to ask about it, they were going to do me a favor by having the rate increase start in June instead of May - so generous. read more

Only rented for three months and then received notice they were increasing my rent by $30 per month. They noticed me by postcard.

This company is a rip-off and they are dishonest. When renting the unit, they told me that I was required to purchase insurance from them, when I didn't want it. I later found out that it is not required, and I cancelled it. The next surprise came after three months, when they sent me a card in the mail informing me that my rate was being increased. The increase was over 60 percent! I went in the next day and closed my account. Since this was my first time renting storage, I was unaware that this rate increase scam may be a common practice. I have been using extra space storage out of necessity to facilitate a small garages worth of peripheral stuff and seasonal decorations. It's been about 5 years since moving here and begun my rental. I feel they are treating it like an actual apartment. I literally have the smallest unit in there. $76 was great for a year or less. I now am paying over 110% more at this point. Yeah the counter girl is great and she's definitely not messing this job up. The perks are nice too. Though they seem to know everything except why there is no price freeze on my unit. Or if there ever will be. This year has been hard for everyone. Extra space included I'm sure. Not to mention those who may have had to vacate out of necessity. Where's the ethical line? tremendous price increases here in a very short time span = an unsustainable business model

Terrible customer service and the slowest elevator I've ever ridden in. It took my movers the same amount of time to move my stuff into the storage unit as it did to move me out of my apartment, because the elevator is so slow and the door won't stay open long enough to let you unload a full car. Also, the ad above says first month free or first month half off, but that's only if you get the largest units. If you don't want to pay $9 per month for insurance, you have to bring a copy of your insurance policy with you when you sign the lease, or they make you pay for their insurance. I offered to call my insurance company and have them fax over the documentation, but the representative rudely told me she had already charged my card and there was nothing she could do. At $179 per month for a 7x10 storage unit on the 5th floor, I expect more. read more

I've never used a personal storage company before. However, this was hands-down the best experience! Candidly speaking, they were not my first choice. But, I did select them due to the convenience of the location and a bad experience with a competitor in the same area. I walked right in, and Tanesha was extremely kind and patient. She showed me around and asked if I needed packing materials. I was sold. No one had ever done this, and I was blown away. The sign up process was seamless and I was out in nearly 20 minutes. Communication afterward was with Charika and I couldn't be more impressed. I truly appreciate their customer service and consistency. 10/10. I highly recommend this location! read more

The lady that is usually at the front desk is nice. I think her name is LouAnn. I was happy with this place until I was ready to move out. There was a miscommunication from LouAnn over the phone about the final bill and the checkout process. I also noticed that they had been charging me for insurance even though I clearly told them that I was not interested in insurance (I was already covered under my renters insurance). I went to the office to ask questions and try to get the information straightened out and that's when things really went downhill. There was a man at the office that Saturday instead of LouAnn. As I was talking with him he was watching TV at his desk and didn't even make eye contact with me. He didn't even turn his head in my direction or even pretend to listen. Honestly, it was the rudest customer service I have ever gotten from any company. I will never go back to this location. I use storage units frequently because I have to travel for my job. I am putting my things in storage again next Saturday and am driving an extra 5 miles out of the way to use a different company rather than deal with such rude people again. read more

I couldn't have asked for an easier storage experience, if you can call it that. It sucked that I couldn't get my stuff into my apartment right away, and then it sucked that it did nothing but snow for the next 2 weeks after I put it in storage. But access was never unavailable, the building was secure, I felt as though my stuff was safe, and that I was safe while I was there. When I moved out, I just walked in, the guy remembered what unit I was, checked me out, and I was done. Absolutely would recommend this place to anyone needing a storage unit. read more

Wow, is what I can say about my experience with this Extra Space location. Blake is amazing in the management of this location. He personally makes the experience a great benefit to the customer. He was easy to work with and took my situation seriously. I felt that his advice on the size of the unit was perfect. The price quoted was the price charged. No hidden increases or excess charges. I was worried about this based on the research of other companies in the area. Blake is upfront, honest and truly has the customer first attitude to service. I had some items to donate to charity and the staff here was helpful with advice and contacts. If I were looking for a storage unit in the future I would return to this location because of the great experience that I had this time. read more

I stored my stuff there for 1 month and nothing got stolen so great job. I did however need to buy supplies on several occasions and there front door was locked and had a message on it saying be back in fifteen. Maybe say when the fifteen minutes should expire. There are other storage places that I can buy supplies at just figured I'd give them the money because I rent a unit. Oh well nothing bad on service just kind of frustrating when no one is at the front or that notes there. read more

What a great moving experience! LouAnn and Chuck are extremely nice and helpful. I had the added issue of having a POD that needed to be delivered, unloaded and then picked back up, which most storage facilities are very uncooperative about. This facility was fantastic. Plus, it is very clean and there are tons of handtrucks/carts for moving your things. I was there on a Friday and Saturday of a holiday weekend and while there were others there, I never had trouble finding parking or using the elevator. I am so happy we found this facility and would highly recommend it to everyone. read more

Look elsewhere if you care about your things. The monthly fees are higher because it's supposed to be climate controlled. Even as the temperatures drop, it's still in the 80s in there because the A/C is literally just hot air. One elevator lurched and stopped abruptly for months and nothing was done; the manager let it go until the thing wouldn't move. The manager plays country music very loudly throughout the building. Extra Space is supposed to be really clean, but this one isn't. read more
