My "lifetime slate roof" recently suffered some major wind damage.
My insurance company sent an adjuster, and offered to cover the damage for a seriously underwhelming price.
My next step was to check Nextdoor for roofer recommendations, I found a neighbor, Bök Lundgren, (Project Manager, Prowest Roofing and Restoration, LLC) right here on Nextdoor (Ocotillo Neighborhood Watch) and contacted him directly. He stopped by the very same day to survey the damage!
I had also contacted other roofing companies, one of which, a very well known name in the metro area for 25 years, did a fairly unremarkable job of assessing the damage, walking the roof with contractor's tape measure and all, then provided a "Roofing Agreement" with a few scribbled semi-legible notes, but lacking anything like a bottom line price? (What's with that?)
Back to Bök Lundgren, this time with the insurance adjuster's estimate in hand. The insurance offer was for significantly less than 50% of the cost of replacing the roof, never mind they WOULD NOT cover the removal of the existing "lifetime slate roof" (a.k.a. Transite, asbestos-cement (A/C) shingles!). Grim news indeed, as a decade or so earlier I had been quoted something in excess of $14,000 just for the asbestos abatement!
Mr. Lundgren got right on that, providing the insurance company with compelling evidence of greater damage than identified by the insurance adjuster's first assessment, leading to the insurance company more than doubling their payout. (Did I say that Prowest specializes in insurance claims?)
Prowest, through Mr. Lundgren, agreed to do a complete new roof for the final insurance payout, leaving the asbestos abatement for me to deal with as an out-of-pocket expense.
Not to leave me high and dry with a $14,000 bill for that, Prowest went even further on my behalf, finding an asbestos abatement contractor who did the job for just one fourth of that!
Needless to say, Prowest, and Mr. Lundgren in particular had my back on this whole exercise. I seriously don't think I could have had a better outcome with a team of $250/hour attorneys on my team!
Throughout this entire exercise, you would have thought that Mr. Lundgren had no other customers, but was working exclusively for me. Communications? Without par, prompt and effective at each step of the job. No "telephone tag", no waiting for a day or more for a response, but literally a response within minutes each time. When's the last time you had that kind of an experience with a contractor?
