I contacted three roofers to look at my wood shake roof which had some damage from a recent microburst storm. I check obviously for plenty of good reviews. I'm looking for professionalism, timeliness, pride in workmanship, and just overall customer satisfaction. L and R past the the reviews. Plenty of people seem satisfied. The next thing is, I check their website if they have one. Most businesses do now have some kind of online presence. Theirs was very smooth and easy to navigate. I requested a quote online, and in about 24 hours got a response. The owner, Luis, came out, climbed the roof, gave me a rundown of what to expect, should I use their services, and told me they would not contact me again or try to pressure me. They certainly followed through on that. They did send a quote. Their website makes it very easy to accept the quote and has finance options. Their contract is laid out very straightforward, full disclosure. Nothing hidden. In this online business world, where people expect more online transactional capability, you just expect businesses to offer that. But many don't, particularly in the contracting world. So, anyone who is attentive to making it easy to transact online is very focused on their business, in my experience. It's just another sign of professionalism and tells me that probably they will also be attentive during the actual construction process. That's just my general experience. It does not always hold true. But in this case, it did. After the HOA approval, I decided to use them for the roof replacement. Costs were in line with about what everyone else is charging. I paid the 50% down, and got a call from Victor the foreman to schedule replacement. They were very accommodating and got busy. There was a minor hiccup, but not their fault. The supplier delivered the wrong tiles. I'm sure that caused a bit of stress for Victor, because they have plenty of jobs scheduled. Anyway, the day after the day they were supposed to do the work, the new tiles were delivered. And then the following Monday, the tiles were loaded onto the roof. The next day they were laid and completed at the same day. I'm no roofing expert, but have some common sense. I climbed the roof before they laid the tiles just to check out their work. All the flashings were very nicely placed. Everything seemed to be high-quality. The underlayment was very nicely laid. And, each day they cleaned up pretty well. When the work was completed, they cleaned up better than I had the yard cleaned up. Victor very professional. If I need any maintenance on the roof, I definitely would consider L & R again. My roof had started to leak after having a new wheat pump installed. The installation company just painted on roofing tar, and it started leaking after less than one year. The left damaged spots where the old support frame has contacted the roof and just left it damaged and painter on some more tar. I contact four different companies to come out and provide a quote. One came out but never even sent a quote. Another just wanted to spray the entire rook with adhesive glue and never quoted repairing the roof around the AC unit. Another gave me a very low quote, but they were just going to lift the damaged composite tiles and slide some new barrier material underneath. L&R quoted a proper fix. They replace the damaged tiles with new ones that looked like a perfect color match. When they were done, the roof looked like it had never been damaged. L&R Roofing did a great job. They were professional, detail oriented, and sent me pics before the work as done, during the repair process, and afterward. This company tried to put a lien on my house even though they were paid in full! Do NOT hire this company! They did not include the work that I asked to be quoted and then charged me more after it was complete. When I tried to discuss this with the owner, his first reaction was to say "we did the work, so pay for it, I will not discuss it" and he also said that he would "put a lien on my house if I did not pay the full amount", which he then later tried to do, even though I paid the invoice in full. So I went ahead and offered a call to the BBB and some bad reviews, which he later used against me. When trying to talk to him on the phone, he screamed at me at the top of his lungs for almost the whole conversation even though I spoke to him in a calm and collected manner and asked him numerous times to please lower his voice. I recommend hiring a different company. Happy Valentines Day! I went to the Master bath to get ready for bed that evening and heard a drip before I got there. Water was coming in from one of the canned lights in the ceiling. Great! Got a hold of L&R Roofing Solutions via Yelp after I checked them out on various websites for licensing, complaints etc. All clean! And highly rated! Luis came over and we talked about a partial or full roof repair. The difference between the partial and full was significant in a couple of ways. The partial was 10% of a full roof replacement cost. The partial carried a one-year workmanship warranty, the full roof, 10 years. Since our house is 23 years old we figured it was time to just do the whole roof and get the 10 year warranty. The quote was approved and a deposit was made and we were told they were about 2 weeks out for scheduling. We were hoping it was shorter but no, it was 2 weeks as we were told. Only problem was that it was supposed to rain again and the ceiling was already showing some water damage. Oh, and my insurance company, no help, they only were going to cover slightly more than our deductible ($31). Not worth filing a claim. With the next rain coming I reached out to Brooklyn via email to see if anything could be done temporarily until the full roof could be done. She let me know the next morning that she had assigned it to a technician the day before. By that morning it was already raining some. Then Victor showed up and took a look around, told us that it was coming from one of the valleys, not even what the insurance adjust claimed was where the leak was coming from. Victor and his partner even drove over to Lowe's or Home Depot 5 miles away to pick up a tarp and came back and covered the area. That saved my bacon (so to speak), no leak!! So, Monday of the project came. We get up really early for work, and obviously so do they. Before I got out to my office the trailer, they told us would be dropped off was already in the drive. Then just before 6 AM trucks started arriving. There was a total of 12 guys and they got after it! All day, except for a well-earned lunch break, they went till sundown and a little while after to get the roof completely sealed in because guess what, more rain was coming on Tuesday? Yep, more rain. I tell you, watching out my office window and seeing all the debris in the front yard, and stuff scattered in the yard, by the time they left, the only thing still here was the full trailer. They stayed and cleaned it all up, even stuff out of the pool. Very impressed! The next 2 days it was raining off and on, and they still showed up to work on the roof. On Tuesday they worked in the morning for about a half day, then they were back late morning on Wednesday but had to hang out in our covered porch area because it continued to rain. Once it let up, they were on it! That afternoon they finished the roof completely! And that included cleanup! That means they completed the roof in essentially 2 days! That is amazing! I was expecting a week or so. I asked Victor when he came to pick up the trailer later in the week and he said they have a number of crews and had a couple of crews working on ours to get it done. Works for me! I would highly recommend them to anyone. I have already given Luis' number to some neighbors, so maybe we'll see their crews again. read more

When I submitted my request for an estimate, I requested that they contact me to schedule an appointment so I could discuss specific areas of concern and wood replacement. A few days later, I received a text about setting up an appointment. I responded back with availability and never heard anything further. Later when checking my email, I saw a quote in there from L&R which stated there would be additional charges on top of the amount quoted for each piece of wood deemed necessary for replacement. I've an 18 year old tile roof that has been giving me grief so I decided to just bite the bullet and get it rehabbed. Glad I did - even though I thought I had all of the leaks fixed, there were a couple of patches of wet wood when the underlayment came off. I got this done just in time. I got three quotes, two similar, one WAAAAAY out of line - L&R's was the best price by around a 12% margin. That is significant. Louis (the owner) called me to see if I had questions. I did, he answered them, and I immediately put 50% down on a credit card on a link they sent with the quote (they charge no uplift for credit cards.) They just finished up the work today, and they even fixed a small problem on my flat urethane roof (not in the tile roof quote) at no charge. Can you beat that??? Management was pleasant and the work crew were polite. The crew mostly did not speak English, but that is par for the course. They were friendly and most polite. Victor, the foreman, was a real mensch. I'll have them back out here in a couple of years to re-top my urethane flat roof. First off, this is for the quoting process and installation. I can only trust the workmanship based on everything else. Luis was very patient and prompt. I'm very analytical. A lot of back and forth to understand the scope and price. I did extensive research and L&R was the highest rated on Yelp and BBB. I received 3 bids of which L&R was the best in both price and detail. That's not why I chose them, I actually signed on with them before getting my 3rd quote. We went with an all new underlayment using existing tiles. I got a call about 2 weeks after signing saying they would be here on Saturday. The Thursday before they just showed up and dropped off materials. One other roofer told me he would staff it with 4 people and it would be about a week. That was my expectation. Maybe because L&R is in Mesa and didn't have a lot going on in Glendale at the time, but they showed up at about 1/4 to 7AM. There must have been 10 workers. By 5pm, they were 99.99% done. The next day the Forman, Victor showed up and finished about 8 or so top cap tiles that they didn't have with them on Saturday. They cleared out the trailer and were done! I can't say enough about the professionalism on display. My neighbors were in awe at seeing how fast they finished. No sign, no fanfair, just got in and got it done. read more

I had called several roofing company to get an estimate on damage I did to my foam roof as well as to replace 30 feet of fascia boards that were rotten and twisted. Most didn't even return my call. The heavy rainfall in March was not kind to our 30 year old cement tile roof. The tile was fine but the tarpaper underneath acted like a sponge and there were several areas around the vent pipes that weren't installed properly.
