The ambiance isn't bad, slightly dated, but the excellent service makes up for it. I've dined in two or three times and ordered takeout a few times. The burgers are the best in town, though a bit pricey unless you take advantage of their half-price burger special on Wednesdays. Their Italian cream cake is absolutely killer, and the steak with French onion soup as a starter is pure perfection. Overall, it can be a little pricey, but for a small town, the food is definitely worth it unless you want to drive 30 minutes.

Prime Rib, medium rare, perfect! Ignore the dark portion it isn't over cooked, it's a shadow from me blocking the light. Great meal tonight.

What went well on my last visit everything! Service is excellent and friendly. The restaurant is immaculate and the presentation is wonderfull the clean crisp white table clothes and napkins, and the table setting. Then you get soup, bread which tastes great, and a meatball appetizer. Then comes your main course, I've tried several items so far as I work my way through their menu. The steaks are excellent and taste phenomenal, like to find in the loop. Yes it's a little pricey for Beecher it's more like eating in the loop, but that's because their food is the same quality and taste as the famous restaurants downtown Chicago, so I didn't mind paying the higher costs. It is worth it!

Chateaubriand for 2- we split it into 3 portions and this is the third portion!

We were greeted nicely and warned of workers calling off. They even provided mixed chips between our appetizers and entrees. We started with the grilled and fried shrimp. Both were amazing. Realizing there was no dipping sauce but not being able to stop eating them while awaiting sauce was commendable. Both were very tasty. The fried green tomatoes were cooked perfectly and seasoned impeccably... again no sauce needed. The catfish and the salmon bites again, seasoned and fried perfectly. The fried mushrooms were different but so good. The star of the night was the Shaniky pasta and I'm not a pasta fan. I had only one complaint. For the same price, you get either 4 pieces of beautifully fried catfish and fries or one piece of beautifully fried catfish sitting in a huge bowl of very tasty but dry dirty rice. I would eat the dirty rice again, but I would choose 4 pieces of beautiful fried catfish with fries any day over a big bowl of rice and one piece of fish. Will definitely return.... Regularly!!!

The Thursday special was the highlight of the meal. The lamb chops were well-seasoned, and the lemon drops absolutely saved the day. The appetizers were decent too. The crab cakes were a nice size, but at $12 each, they felt overpriced. I think serving three smaller crab cakes for around $15 would make more sense and create a better presentation. I didn't personally try the oysters, but everyone in my group agreed they would've been much better without the cheese, which overpowered the flavor. Now...the main attraction--the item the restaurant is literally named after--the crab bagz. Unfortunately, they were more like trash bagz. The shrimp tasted like a frozen bag of shrimp from Aldi that was simply boiled with a little butter. The smoked sausage looked and tasted more like a boiled hot dog. Frying or grilling the sausage before adding it to the bag would make a huge difference in both flavor and texture. The corn tasted old, almost like it had been sitting in seasoned water for hours and was simply reheated when ordered. By the time I got to the potato, I had completely lost interest. The entire boil needs more seasoning cooked into the seafood and vegetables--not just added afterward. A heavier Cajun dry seasoning and deeper flavor infusion would go a long way. New Orleans is my second home, so yes, my standards for seafood boils are high. But this just missed the mark. If I came back, it would be for the drinks, lamb chops, and appetizers. Those are the real stars here. Unfortunately, the crab bagz--the signature dish--just aren't it.

Views of the lake. Our server was so so sweet & friendly. I ordered the seasonal Moscow mule. It was a happy hour special. It was cucumber mint. A little sweeter than I had anticipated. But delicious. I ordered the lobster bisque to start. It was $6. Very good portion for the price. And it was amazing. The bread basket at the table was very good too. Whipped butter & the perfect density & chew. For the entree, I got the macadamia crusted walleye. It came with 2 sides. I chose the garlic mashed potatoes & ceasar salad. The potatoes had a lot of garlic. So, make sure you like garlic. I was so full after the salad that I took most of the fish & potatoes home. It was a good sized portion. They were just as good the next day. We shared the chocolate cake & a lemon dessert. I didn't take any pictures because I only had a bite. But they were amazing. The server offered to take our photo by the lake at sunset. What a lovely suggestion. I can't wait to come back.

Why did it take me so long to get here?…read more I have been driving past this place for longer than I would like to admit. Always saying the same thing, "I'm going to stop next time." Well we finally stopped and sat down for seafood feast that I have not been able to stop thinking about. We were greeted as soon we walked in and asked if we were dining in or ordering out. We were dining in and there were no available tables so we were escorted to a seating area until one was available which didn't take long. Danny was our server and quickly came over and introduced himself and took our drink orders. As I have said before, service is extremely important to me and Island Shrimp House is not lacking in hospitality. Danny did a great job and we appreciate his recommendations. We ordered: Mini Crab Cakes Claim Chowder Seafood Jambalaya Breaded Shrimp Half Beast From the East (Lobster Roll) Stuffed Lobster I already said it feast! I truly enjoyed the shrimp jambalaya. It was so flavorful and had chunks of seafood in it that I could actually see and taste which is very much appreciated! The half beast from the east lobster roll is exactly what you would expect if you were sitting in a seafood shack in Maine. Buttery soft roll with fresh lobster chunks. I could only finish half the roll. The stuffed lobster tail was extremely popular and for good reason. It was on the specials menu and you see the photo, nothing else to say! I'm looking forward to my next several visits as the food was delicious and the service made you feel at home. That's just my palate, go try it for yourself and let me know what you think!

I really appreciated how true the dishes stayed to their roots. The semi-open kitchen was also a great touch--it shows they're confident in their craft and proud of what they're serving. I also understand that servers sometimes make assumptions about guests. However, every customer deserves the same level of attention and service, regardless of what a server thinks the tip may be. According to the receipt provided by the manager, I believe our server's name was Jaden. Unfortunately, she never introduced herself and only checked on our table once throughout the meal. Most of the service we received actually came from the manager on duty. I found myself repeatedly getting up to ask for things until I finally asked Jaden, if she was our server. I hoped that would prompt a little more attention to our table, but it didn't. Instead, she remained focused on another table that had arrived before us and was still there after we left. I watched her check on them four or five times while our table was largely ignored. Whether intentionally or not, it certainly felt as though she had decided our table wasn't worth her time. If that was her assumption, then in this particular case she was correct about one thing: my husband and I will not tip for bad service. I have no problem rewarding excellent service, but I also believe tips should reflect the quality of the experience provided. Rather than leaving money for poor service, I chose to give the cash I had to the busboys, who were attentive and helpful throughout the evening. The reason I'm sharing this review is because I don't want one bad experience to overshadow what has otherwise been a good restaurant. I've dined here several times before, live nearby, and have always enjoyed my visits. That's why this experience stood out so much. I'm willing to give the restaurant another chance because I know the level of service they're capable of providing. My hope is that when I return, every guest will receive the same level of attention and hospitality, regardless of assumptions about who they are or what they may tip. Great service should be consistent, and that's what keeps customers coming back. One final thought: tipping culture only works when both sides do their part. GUESTS should recognize and reward good service, and SERVERS should provide quality service to every table. When assumptions are made on either side, EVERYONE loses.
