Came here for lunch last week. Had to run some errands in Crown Point and found this little gem online and had to try it. The restaurant was cozy and clean and reminiscent of the best of the best, a dying breed... the Greek diners in the Midwest. My dad had a tuna plate with fruit and I had a croissant breakfast sandwich with American fries. The food and coffee were excellent. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Seems like mostly a breakfast spot and it was raining heavily the day we went so there were only a couple of tables dining. If I am back in that area you can bet I'll be stopping by Twelve Islands. read more

My wife and I stopped by for dinner and found the restaurant about half full. After a short wait, our server came over and took our order. We asked for her recommendations, and she confidently shared a few options. My wife chose the stir fry, and I went with the hot beef sandwich. Both dishes were excellent--her suggestions were spot on! We were both very pleased with our meals, and the prices were reasonable. The service was great, and the restaurant was clean. Hubby and I like to try a new restaurant when possible, lately after our exercise class at the local Y, so we're hungry when we stop. Sometimes we want breakfast, depending how late we are--lunch. We are seniors and that day hubby ordered a ham and cheese omelette with fried potatoes. I opted for a Monte Cristo as I seldom see that on menus anymore. Hubby's omelette was good and the right portion for him; the potatoes okay. My Monte Cristo was very tasty! But the bread was almost too moist. The server, however, was extremely personable. She's a true people person--bustled around--service was quick and attentive. She spoke with people and appeared to be very interested in her guests. She recommended the carrot cake and hubby agreed. It was delicious! Sorry I do not have a pic, but will say the food was priced reasonably and the restaurant clean. The food might have garnered a 4 star, while the service and ambiance a 5 star or averaged at 4.5 stars. I'll round up as we enjoyed our server and will be back. read more

We used to come here for breakfast a while ago, before Culinary Misfits started a brunch & before we started going to AVGO. We didn't want to drive to AVGO today and wanted to give this place a try again. To say we are disappointed is an understatement. We both ordered lemon rice soup. It was only luke warm at best. I let our server know and her suggestion was to take my current bowl and go microwave it in the back?!? No way would I let that happen and why can't I just get a new bowl of soup? Her reason for it being barely warm was that they went through 4 containers of soup already.... Ok? But why is that now my issue? She kept repeating that statement over and over. Why not serve it when it's hot instead of just getting it out of the kitchen and on my table? If you were to tell me it's going to take 10 min because you've gone through so much I would gladly wait. It's my favorite soup. I didn't eat mine. I ordered over medium eggs and extra crispy potatoes. I received barely over easy eggs and bland, not crispy white potatoes. My husband ordered a skillet, it was so small and sad looking with the same bland white potatoes that were not crispy. Our waitress couldn't care less. We will never come back here. We'll choose AVGO or Culinary Misfits over this place every time. I honestly do not understand why it's so busy? Is it because it is so cheap? There are other places that would make sure your food is as ordered and your soup is hot. read more

My wife and I went here a few times when we were first dating. It has the feeling of an old diner that was decorated by your grandma. It's not bad, but it is interesting. I usually got a chicken alfredo dish with broccoli that I thought was pretty tasty, though not mind-blowing or unique in any way. I can't remember what my wife usually got, but I know she enjoyed it pretty well too. We came for breakfast once and I liked it a little less. I got standard eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy. Nothing was bad, but it needed more than a little salt and pepper, and could have probably used a few more ingredients to really make the meal stand out. The price is very appealing, though. Most meals come with enough food for leftovers, even if you eat as much as me, and only cost $7-9. Service was never great, but never terrible either. Middle of the road. we came here a few times before and would probably come back again. It's not my favorite restaurant, but it's cheap, it will fill you up, and the food is going to be okay. read more

This is a cozy family.style restaurant sitting smack dab in the middle of downtown crown point. The exterior is clean and looks very new. A welcoming sign displays the name of the restaurant in big bold letters. Upon entering you notice the old school diner feel. A very retro design suggests the place may have been around for quite awhile. However, it was very clean! I have only visited once so my review is only based off of one meal. Let me first start by saying the air conditioning worked great! I was super hot as it was 97 degrees out and was thankful for the cool air! My server was quick to greet me with a menu. Having looked at the online menu I already knew what I wanted. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap with fries and a coke. The food came out in quite a timely manner despite the large party of people eating with family who came in moments before me. The food came out hot and fresh. The buffalo wrap was just as you'd imagine. Chunks of fried chicken in a tangy sauce with blue cheese throughout. The wrap was a little bit loose so some of my ingredients continuously fell out on to my plate. I doubt there's a way to prevent this. The fries were very yummy. They were crispy and fresh and appeared to be "fresh cut". They were perfectly salted and delicious. If you're hungry and in the area I recommend a visit! read more

This unemployed caregiver, her older sibling, and their father happened to enjoy a delightful Father's Day breakfast there the other morning! I couldn't have been more grateful for the service - especially our kindhearted server. I've never seen someone smile through so much pain in one shift to please her customers. Stopped here on a whim for a late lunch as the places I wanted to try and get into were either really crowded (for Mother's Day) or getting ready to close (it was around 3pm). Food wasn't bad (omlette with ham, mushroom, and swiss cheese along with American Fries and English Muffin) and the service was a tad slow but I didn't mind. All the staff there were friendly and helpful...and of course the bottomless cup of coffee hit the spot too. The price wasn't bad neither...under $10 for the whole thing...major points in my book. I went to this restaurant for lunch... one of the worse places in Northwest Indiana. The food was bad the waitress were even worst .I don't know if they don't want people of color in there or not but I will never go there again in this lifetime. I thought I would give them another try after I stop going 8 months ago... but there still rude . One waitress dropped the menu on the table never said hello or anything, another came to the table took my order, I asked for coffee ordered breakfast... I never got coffee until she brought the greasy breakfast. Someone sat down at the table in front of me the waitress who dropped my menu on the table waited on them she was polite and nice.. brought water to the table and ask them what would they like to drink. I would consider Twelve Islands in the diner category, and for a diner, the food is superb! Seriously--by far the best I've eaten in this category :) It helps that I work right by Twelve Islands, so I order lunch to go a lot! Pros: good portions, low prices, fast service (food is ready in 10 minutes consistently), very diverse menu Cons: can't really think of any...sometimes if you eat in, other tables are loud...??? :) What I like to order: 1. Southwest chicken salad--to die for, literally! Like, if I had a restaurant someday, I would totally steal this for my menu 2. Stuffed pepper meal--this is only an occasional special, but I personally love it 3. Lasagna--really good and perfect with the garlic toast that comes with 4. Athenian burger--if you like feta cheese, you should like this burger 5. Cowboy burger--love, love the bbq and onion ring flavors on it 6. Turkey croissant--not deli meat, actual shaved turkey with melted cheese and pickles--yes, pickles--they actually make the sandwich! 7. Prime storefront on the Square for many years, with some remodeling done now and again, and is a great place for breakfast or lunch. The menu is enormous, but includes good NW Indiana favorites like biscuits and gravy, pork tenderloin and others. Problem is that if you are seated in the front area but not at a booth, it's a bit claustrophobic. Also lots of racket from the kitchen; the one time I was there, the apparently-Hispanic cook was in a temper and anyone who knows colloquial Spanish got a trip to the gutter as he raged at our server. I apologized to her for sending part of our order back, but cook prepared it 10 minutes in advance. Of the other entree, then left it on the pass to "die". The server was very apologetic but by now one plate was hot and the other cold. We returned the cold plate to the kitchen and the swill of Spanish obscenities began toward the server until I spoke up - it's a small area - and said I had sent the food back. Crowding and an obnoxious cook aside, I will go back for good food at fair prices. Just take earplugs if you understand gutter Spanish. read more

We stopped in late afternoon. I ordered the Ruben and it was not to bad but could have used a couple more slices of meat on it. The wife ordered a Mediterranean wrap which came side a side of Cole slaw. At the bottom of the dish was a hair. The daughter ordered a kids taco and the meat was well well cooked. Recently ordered a pick up order for the first time since they opened after the quarantine. Had been thinking about eating in for the first time, but I'm glad we passed on that. The gentleman at the register who was taking money, and bringing out the orders NO MASK. Waitresses we could see NO MASKS. Don't know about the cooks, but based on the front I would guess the same. So I would say the food was fine, but if you don't care about your customers I will pass ordering again. You can get similar food elsewhere. read more

This is a great place for when you want some homemade-style food to eat. It's not some fancy place that puts five million spices and herbs on everything, but it is definitely good tasting. My favorite item is their gyros. It's greasy and rich. Some people may not like the grease but I personally love it. Also I once was in a hurry when I came here and I asked the waiter if it's ok for the chef to rush our food a bit and that we'd be fine if it was a bit less in quality because of it. Well, not only was the quality maintained but the food came in 10 minutes! Yes, ten, and the restaurant was still nearly full! Anyways, moving on. My only complaint is the waiters. Sometimes you get one that fine and all, but other times it seems like they're cranky and hate their job or something. None of them have flat out said or done something rude though, so I'm only deducting a little for that. Anyways, definitely come here for some nice chow. :) read more

My family and I eat breakfast there every Monday morning before my husband goes to work and occasionally on weekends. I do have to admit, that at times the place gets extremely crowded, but that's only because "people LOVE to eat there" The waitresses are awesome, the food is great and if you think Twelve Islands is "discrimatory" maybe you should start eating at "Denny's" in Merrillville...you might fit in better, because my family and I sure didn't. read more
