Modern cute restaurant. We came without a reservation on a Friday night. There was a 25 min wait. Friendly hostess greeted us. The entryway is tight, and a little small. We got bread with butter & oil. The bread was a little stale. No flavor. I ordered the Ceasar salad with shrimp. The lettuce was nicely chopped. The dressing was served on the side. Good thing because the dressing was thick, salty, and didn't taste housemade. I prefer a tossed salad. The shrimp were ok. Small & a little overcooked. It had Parmesan cheese & crutons. My friend got a chicken sandwich that was so big. Cottage French fries looked good. The server was nice & our water was refilled all the time. Very appreciated. read more

First off, Parea's two soups; Clam Chowder and Lime Rice, are the best soups in the city. The menu has plenty of options from a reasonably priced grilled or spicy fried chicken sandwich, all the way up to a nice steak dinner. Great place to grab a drink and a bite or a dinner date. read more

Parea has a nice quiet ambience and on the surface appears to be a somewhat high-end restaurant. The staff is friendly, attentive and professional. The menu selection is good, but the food is very average. Our meals were prepared fine, bone-in rib-eye was cooked perfectly as ordered (medium rare) but the quality of the beef was just not there. Visited this place for the first time recently while visiting relatives. Parea is a family-owned restaurant across from the Porter County courthouse, so it's convenient to go to after work, after a day of shopping downtown or before a night on the town. The staff is professional and attentive. The overall atmosphere is friendly and comfortable, I would definitely recommend the place if you want to impress a date. They have a casual dining area and a bar section with lots of TVs tuned to local sporting events. I got the Asiago Chicken Gnocchi and it was heavenly. My wife got the fish and chips and her servings were so large, she had leftovers for lunch the next day. I highly recommend this spot if you are in the Valpo area. read more

This is a really nice restaurant, very classy decor. There was soft jazz playing in the softly in the background and it's a really nice place to have date night. We were greeted and seated right away and our server promptly took our order. My wife and I chose the filet and it was really good. Mine was ordered medium rare and hers was medium and both were perfect. The mashed potatoes were homemade and very tasty. The grilled asparagus was tender and good. We have been meaning to try this place ever since once of our neighbors told us it was their favorite restaurant in Valpo. It definitely did not disappoint. Ambience inside (we sat in the restaurant portion as opposed to the bar) was very nice and everything was clean and seemed to be newly renovated. There are a lot of traditional food options, but the grilled avocado appetizer is unlike anything we've had before and we nearly ordered another for dinner because it was that good. We instead opted for the roasted carrot risotto (another first for me) and the grilled salmon. Both were excellent and both portions were enough to bring half home for leftovers. Food was not as advertised. Manager was rude and refused to let us speak with the owner.

This place has a restaurant and a lounge! Both the place have great ambience! The food is Unbelievably amazing ! The first time I had the Chicken Alfredo (without the chicken as I don't eat meat) I got lost with the taste, the pasta was creamy and delicious! I tried fettuccine Alfredo in many different places.. and nothing could replace the taste after eating at Paréa! The other time I went I did try out their appetizers stuffed avocado and the truffle fries! Both were amazing! The stuffed avocado is a must try! The flavorful grilled avocado dip with the crisp pita chips absolute winner ! Over all the experience at this place was wonderful! The food is just amazing! We went for our anniversary (a day late) and were so disappointed. The Saganaki was burned and the server acted funny when we asked for a lemon, the lemon rice soup was watery, the Salmon pita meal was cold and the salmon tasted like it was out of a pouch, the chicken schnitzel was hot, but the broccoli was burnt and swimming in an olive oil lake and the mashed, garlic potatoes tasted like flavorless pancakes. I had to ask for lemon for my schnitzel which normally comes with it to enjoy the only part of this dish. We were charged $8 for the two watery soups and the total bill was over $60 for most food we either chocked down our didn't bother eating. So disappointed. COVID was not their friend! read more

Went to Parea as a family friend recommended it. The service was TERRIBLE. We sat outside, a few other tables there but not many people. The waiter was unfriendly, slow, and acted "better than us". Took him a good 15 mins to get us water. One person ordered a beer. HShe had to ask him after about 30 mins when the food came (he didnt check in on us unless he was delivering something). He didnt even apologize, just brought the beer a good 10 mins later. He couldnt have been more unfriendly. I did get the Chicken Lemon Rice soup, some of the best Ive ever had and I love this stuff. Lemony, very soft "puffy" rice, not much chicken but a great thick soup. I then got my entree, chicken fettucini which was way overpriced for Valpo. It was pretty taty, until I cut into a raw piece of chicken (see photo). I mean come on, how do you not cook a 1.5" cube of chicken? Thats just unsafe, I wish Robert Irvine would go here... Also to note, I asked the waiter to refill my water, he came about 10 mins later and refilled everyone else's but mine. Asked for salt and pepper (which wasnt even on the table), that neevr came. And the kicker, the waiter cleans up a table next to us, grabs a dirty beer glass, sets it on our table and leaves it. Seriously, dont go here unless you want a bad experience with rude waiters, overpriced food and a good chance of getting food poisoning. I have gone three times total for light apps and drinks with friends. It's very hit or miss! Sometimes the service is excellent, sometimes terrible. The bar drinks are sometimes watery tasting (my limoncello martinis was one of the worst bar drinks I have ever had) but also sometimes are great. Their house drinks are really weird combinations. We sat down at the bar once and were not offered a drinks menu at all, and when we asked for some we were brought one to share amongst four people and that even took a few minutes, when the drinks menu was right there behind the bar? I feel bad writing a negativeish review because the staff is very friendly. I think that since we have only ever gone to the bar, maybe it's the bar that's sort of hit or miss and not the restaurant sit down area? I don't know. The atmosphere was more appealing than any of the food. Tirokaftiri, lemon rice and the seafood risotto had much to be desired, like seasoning to start. The most flavorful part was the cracked pepper I put on the food. Ribeye was ordered medium well and it was charged so well it's going in the garbage. It took a little longer than expected, 53 minutes so we took our food togo. Not worth reheating or any doctoring up. Our server was polite and obviously the only reason anyone would return. This is the 2nd fail for this place. I'd rather spend $120 on Mc Donald's any day of the week. read more

Parea is hands down the best restaurant in Valpo. The food is amazing and inventive. The service is beyond spectacular. Rhea and her family truly understand the value of being friendly and engaging with their customers. Just like at Jimmy's, I always feel welcomed and appreciated at Parea. It's rare to find someone who can cook a steak perfectly, but Parea did just that. And if you're there in the winter make sure you get the Baked Hot Chocolate. It's one of the best desserts I've ever had, but share it between two people because it's incredibly rich. Yes, it's a more expensive place to eat, but the quality of the food makes up for the price.
