My husband and I had the perfect date night at Stacks! We've dined here many times but this time we decided to dine on the Rooftop and it was absolutely perfect. The weather couldn't have been better, making it such a beautiful evening to sit back, relax and enjoy a great meal together. We started with the Steak & Lobster Stuffed Mushrooms and WOW.....they were fantastic! Such a delicious way to start the evening. My husband ordered the 24 oz. Tomahawk Ribeye with a Brandy Mushroom Sauce, served over mashed potatoes and asparagus. He thoroughly enjoyed every bite because when he was finished, there was absolutely nothing left on the plate.....which says it all! I ordered the Scalibut, featuring Blackened Halibut and Seared Scallops served over Lobster mashed potatoes and asparagus, topped with a Lemon Parmesan sauce and Tomato basil Cruda. It did NOT disappoint! Every bite was packed with incredible flavor and the combination of the halibut, scallops, lobster mashed potatoes and sauce was absolutely delicious. A group of friends decided to expose us to one of their favorite restaurants, let's just say I wasn't impressed. Upon walking in the decor is a stark reminder of Harry Potter world and I loved that! Thee is a winding staircase that leads to the rooftop behind the hostess desk!! We were seated 30 minutes before our reservation and that was amazing! I expected the dining room to be busy on a Saturday night, but it was pretty calm. Our waiter was sweet, a bit rushed, but sweet. My husband and I ordered the surf and turf while my sister friend and her husband order the burger with garlic truffle fries and stuffed chicken. Myself and my husband had to try the jumbo crab! It did not let me down!!!! I wanted to order one to go!! The pricing on this is only $20!! It's authentic and filled with crab, so I think this is a steal!!! The surf and turf is visually mouthwatering, but the taste leaves much to be desired. The dish is served a bit lukewarm and the shrimp within the pineapple still tasted like the sea . The rice that is stuffed in the pineapple has chunks of pineapple and bacon. I personally didn't believe the bacon was a good addition to the "surf and turf" theme. OK, so first of all, I will say Stacks has really great food. If you're looking for a really good Italian beef sandwich and homemade onion dip with homemade chips this is a place to go. The only unfortunate thing it is very hard to get into without having a reservation way in advance. My husband and I have tried to go here several times in the past six months, but I have not had any luck getting a seat. So I recommend getting a reservation ahead of time if you want the main floor. But they do need to do something about the reservation system online. Like I said, it is very hard to make a reservation earlier than 8 PM online. read more

I highly recommend the pretzel bites. My entree was delicious but the only critique was that the halibut was a dry/overcooked. Someone else at my table ordered the blackened salmon and they said their fish was cooked well. It was an hour wait for dinner on a Saturday, but thankfully we had a reservation. The alcohol selections are extensive. There was half price happy hour on Thursdays, still? The hot cookie skillet was the main reason for our dining choice and it did not disappoint. My wife and I spent several days in Valparaiso to both visit her sister and introduce me to the town where both of them went to college. I wish we had eaten up there, but my sister in law is recovering from an injury and doesn't do well with stairs right now. I would post more pictures of the venue, but my sister in law was in them and would kill me. This place was really hopping. It was a Sunday right around lunch time. We were going to a 2:00 PM matinee at the Opera House and wanted plenty of time to eat. Our dining area was covered in wall to wall books and a few giant TVs. I don't remember what the ladies ordered, except that they had a bucket of mimosas. That consisted of a bottle of Proseco and three small carafes of juices. I was torn with what to order, but with a little explanation of one of my choices by our wonderful server, Ashalee, I finally picked Shakshuka a la Mexicana. It was eggs poached in a tomato sauce with olive oil, peppers, and onions. It was topped with avocado slices and cotija cheese. It came with a stack of 5 delicious corn tortillas. I usually avoid Mexican food like the plague when I am not in San Antonio. This was surprisingly good, although I had never had this particular dish before, let alone heard of it. The eggs were poached very nicely. The sauce was very flavorful. The tortillas were softly fried and tasted great. The only thing wrong with the dish is that it really smelled strongly of cominos, which offended my wife's delicate schnozz. We visited Stacks based on several high recommendations, but the experience was a significant disappointment. Given the positive reputation this place seems to have, I honestly don't understand the great reviews. The quality of the food and the state of the seating area simply didn't align with the hype. We ordered the Mediterranean chicken sandwich, the Bruschetta burger, and the Osso Bucco. Across the board, the seasoning was lacking. The chicken was thin, dry, and overcooked. The burger, which I requested "pink," arrived gray with no crust or grill marks. The texture was as if the meat had been overly mixed and essentially boiled. The gorgonzola was poorly distributed, completely overwhelming the other flavors. As for the Osso Bucco, it was mediocre at best. The gravy was so thin that the mashed potatoes were reduced to a runny potato soup. The environment on the enclosed patio was also a major issue. We were seated directly under a heater covered in bird droppings. Having heated air blowing over dried waste while trying to eat is a serious cleanliness concern. We left a significant amount of the food uneaten on our plates, yet no one on the staff bothered to ask if there was an issue or why we weren't finishing our meals. While I should have sent the food back at the time, the experience was enough to ensure I won't be returning. Every year I make my way to the area to visit family and always make sure to stop in. Stacks is a library/school decor themed restaurant based out of an assuming office building. They have a constantly changing menu with great new dishes to try! The past time we went I had the lobster rangoon dish they had, and of course the classic burger. One of the juiciest, tastiest burgers I've had. And I'm a burger addict so I've had burgers all over. Staff is always nice and the drink specials are always pretty good! Our family of four made reservations for a Sunday lunch at 11 am. We were promptly seated upon arrival and it was not overly busy. We ordered the poblano fiesta omelet and chicken and waffle sandwich. Both portions were plentiful and we shared the entrees with our young daughters and still had leftovers to take to go. The omelet consisted of roasted poblanos, pork carnitas, roasted red peppers, onions, and pepperjack. It was topped with sliced avocado and serrano and served with a side of breakfast potatoes. The omelet was fluffy and abundantly packed. The sandwich had a thin, crusted chicken with several slices of ham and a thick layer of melted cheese in between two hearty pieces of waffles. The chicken was not crispy but the waffles were. However, given how big of a stack it was, it would have been chaotic to attempt to pick up. I went with knife and fork instead. The mustard and maple aioli had a slight kick to it so my girls did not like it. But they ate the waffles fine after I sliced off the top part that had the aioli. They really enjoyed the chicken and ham and ate a good portion. Service was attentive and super friendly. Our server was very patient and cheerful when engaging with our young daughters. Amazing food! Our friend who lives in the area said this is the best restaurant in this area of Indiana. The food is super giant so the prices are worth it. Super friendly service. We sat on the roof because we didn't make a reservation so the restaurant was full. We didn't make a reservation for a Saturday night. The bread sticks were amazing. Honestly probably some of the best bread sticks I've ever had. They were light and fluffy so even though there was a lot of them they weren't heavy and super filling. The cheese had some spice and it was so good. I had the open faced steak sandwich. It was so good. My filet was cooked perfectly and the onions were perfectly crisp. The garlic bread underneath was also so delicious. I wish there was more gravy and I also found it to be a bit acidic for some reason but it all worked together and it was amazing. The horseradish sauce was perfect and it had the perfect amount of horseradish. I'm a bit picky about horseradish sauce because usually there isn't enough flavor. This one was perfect. Rating from the point of view of someone who was attending a rented out party, I am so impressed with the Stacks rooftop for my sisters smaller reception type dinner. Just about every guest I spoke to said it was the best food they had eaten at a wedding, and I completely agree with them. So fresh and warm for a family style buffet, great portion sizes, and selection. The bride and groom chose the salmon, steak tips, and stuffed chicken which I think I speak for everyone there when I say we all loved every entree. I had heard about the risotto and was so excited to try it with the salmon- truly delicious! The potatoes with the chicken were to die for. As for the staff, they were so great. We were all moving around and talking to people, but they always made sure to find you with your drink even if you had slightly wandered off. They were perfect with timing the food and bringing out desserts as well. We had a little bit of rain and the staff was so quick to move a few tables around and close screens so no rain came in.
