I had a salad. It was the most uneventful salad I ever ordered! The bag mixes from a grocery store have way more going than the one served at Lincoln Flats. My husband had a pork chop. My wife and I went to dinner at 5:30 pm on a Tuesday. Only a couple of tables were taken so we were seated right away. It was a nice day, so outdoor seating was available, but we chose to sit inside. The restaurant is modern and very well kept, the waitstaff was friendly and helpful. Our server came right over and gave us our menus and took our drink order. When she returned with the drinks, she took our order. I ordered the Raspberry Lemonade, and it was delicious. Not too sweet, it was perfect. My wife ordered the Hoke Poke Bowl, and I ordered the Cheesy Napoleon along with a side of Mac and Cheese. We started with an order of Dippers to share, and I ordered a bowl of the soup of the day, Cheese Broccoli. The Dippers are fantastic, I ordered the house chips with my burger, and they are by far superior compared to the chips. These are a must get item, very tasty. My soup was really the only disappointment, everything was finely blended and because of that the Broccoli was only strings of fiber. After I finished my soup, we were served our meals. My wife loves this meal, she says it is very tasty and there is a lot of Tuna. My burger looked and tasted terrific. The bacon on the burger was very flavorful and the burger was juicy. I have had better homemade chips, and next time I will go with the Dippers instead. The Mac and Cheese was OK, nothing really special. This was a good dinner out. We've been to Lincoln Flats several times and the food is consistently good. The outside seating is comfortable and often available when we stop by. My go-to dish? The fish and chips. The fish is flaky, moist and well seasoned. You can request malt vinegar and tarter sauce, which seems homemade and is savory and yummy. Whenever we've ordered, the fish batter is a deep golden brown and crispy. There is slightly more batter than I prefer but the crispness is appreciated. The chips are thin slightly curved potatoes with a soft fluffy interior. We often order drinks and they are yummy and well made. With the electro funk therapy, you get your choice of fruit. I chose strawberry - think strawberry mojito. The muddled strawberries and mint packed a flavorful punch and the lime kept it from being too sweet. Every other time we've dined here we've not had room for the deep fried Oreos. This time we planned for it. The dessert was served with six Oreos encased in a beignet type golden batter. The cookie interior was soft and the dipping sauce seemed made from dark chocolate, which helped the dish to be not cloyingly sweet. To top it off, our server and all the staff we encountered were patient and engaging - as usual. We're glad for this to be a go to spot when looking for a delicious meal. read more

Attractive dining area and bar. The service was good. Unfortunately, there was a slight smell of what we thought was an old mop bucket needing emptied when we got there but it was bearable. We ordered the artichoke dip and pita chips to start, which was a nice start. My wife didn't care for the pita chips, they were thick and on the harder side. My wife loved the drink of the day, a black Betty. I ordered the fish and chips which were very good except for the plating. They came out in a wire cone with the fish on top and no plate. I guess that I needed to eat the fish on top first followed by the now soggy fried potatoes on the bottom (consider a new plating option). They supply malt vinegar in a small cup and tartar sauce for the fish. A bottle of the vinegar would be better for dressing the food. My wife had the fried chicken sandwich. It is dressed with their coleslaw. My wife thought that perhaps the slaw had spoiled. I smelled it and realized what the smell had been when we came in. It smelled as if they add kimchi or something similar to the slaw. Other than the slaw, which she scraped off, it was a good sandwich. We had the blueberry shortcake cake for dessert and it was very good, and a large portion. We took half of it home. I rarely give 5 stars, but this place earned it for sure. From the time we walked in the door until we left it was a great experience. The server, Claire, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and easily answered our questions. We started with cheese curds and the pint of "Pig Candy." Both were excellent! The pig candy is a candied bacon with maple and sriracha, and was totally decadent. The cheese curds were very nicely done, probably beer-battered. For dinner we had the salmon and a reuben. With the salmon, they do a different prep every week and this one was excellent. It was one of the best entree dishes I've had in a long time at a bar. It came with grilled asparagus and a potato gremolata, which was devine! The Reuben was made with a very good quality corned beef on perfectly grill-toasted rye. The mustard we got upon request was also a very good quality deli mustard. For desert we had the slab apple pie with caramel sauce. It was ecxeptionally delicious, a huge portion and had plenty of caramel sauce, whipped cream and ice cream. The crust couldn't have been better. The only detraction from the meal, and it was a very small one, was that the salmon was just a tiny bit too close to the heat. The menu was fun and diverse - somethimg for everyone. They also had an extensive drink and whiskey menu, with some very upscale whiskey and scotch. The place was clean and fun, and they have a very nice sidewalk dining area. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and light. We're new to the area and havebeen trying a number of places and this one will certainly go on our regular rotation. read more

Okay back at it again with the food reviews, we here at the Lincoln Flats downtown Valpo for the sisters bday. Cool little spot haven't been here before was pleased with the hospitality from our waitress and the general atmosphere of the restaurant was clean, lively, and friendly. Let's talk about the food First things first they have a pretty good size menu with a lot of food that sounds pretty darn good. I couldn't decide between a lot, but it came down to a knuckle brawl between the ribs and the wagyu with the wagyu coming out on top in the final round. I ordered my wagyu medium rare as all steaks should be and my poor cow was a little more medium than rare which is okayyyy it was over cooked to hell but not quite what I wanted. I had the butter finishing on top and grilled asparagus and layered cheese and potatoes which I never had before. All in all beside the temperature of my steak the meal was marvelous. The taste was there the feelings were right nothing bad I can really say about it. Will definitely come back often in the future. read more

First timers in Valpo and pleasantly surprised with our experience! The wait staff was extremely friendly and made us feel welcome. The holiday decor was also very fun. Specialty drinks sounded really tasty on the menu, however the execution was a little sub par; the sugar and mix-in's in the old fashioned made the drink gritty and not as smooth as expected. We ordered a charcuterie board for appetizer, which was nice and fresh but could have been a bit heartier for the price. 10 stars for the Buffalo cauliflower - the best we've ever had! For mains, the whole table ordered ribs. These were cooked to perfection but they were served very heavy on the sauce which became a little overpowering. Overall, wish we could give this a 3.5! We consider ourselves foodies but don't have high expectations for local restaurants. When ordered I was told it would be about 25-30 minute for the order (which is fine). They were only off by 5 min so; no big deal. Walked in for pickup and the restaurant and bar were packed. Good for them and it gave me hope for a good meal. There was no place to sit and wait let alone stand out of the way of incoming patrons and staff. No obvious place to pickup takeout. No greeting upon arrival. No one on staff returned my greeting or looked to acknowledge my presence. Waited for what I could best determine my "turn" among the other people aimlessly waiting. I had to squeeze my way up to a small "hostess" stand tucked to the side to ask for help. Nobody on staff or otherwise were wearing masks. The food was fair. Pricey pork chops on the menu (that I don't mind spending the money for when as advertised) were supposed to be served with a bourbon glaze but what was on them wasn't that. It was basically a red sauce with maybe some pine nuts thrown in. The sides of brussel sprouts and fingerling potatoes were really dry too. Sprouts didn't have even a hint of bacon. This place is very cool. Tons of beers and great cocktails! We had dinner here for the first time and we really enjoyed ourselves over all. We started with the buffalo cauliflower and chips&dips. The star food wise was absolutely the chips and dips. I will be back for that and a cocktail in the summertime. Our dinners fell flat. My husband got the waygu and it was over done and lacking salt through out the plate. I got the pork chop and was disappointed at how under done it was. It literally had a sear and that was it. I didn't complain I thought I'd just take it home and finish it myself. I wasn't crazy about the bbq sauce on the chop or the lack of seasoning to the sides on the plate. The first item ordered was Lincoln Logs, soft pretzels with cheese and beer dipping sauces. This was a delicious start. I then ordered the Poke Bowl and "Bam" was it great. It was served over a sticky rice with large diced portions of tuna. I ate every last bit of it. My wife had the salmon and enjoyed it as well. We skipped desert. I would highly recommend this restaurant. I rated it a "5" even though it was pretty noisy. The noise wasn't due to the restaurant, but extremely ill mannered people. I had to frequently ask my wife to repeat herself and lean-in to hear her as well. It just reminded me of "why" a pub in Ireland stopped serving Americans. They can be to damn loud. Well I finally made it to Lincoln flats and my wife and I ordered the Pint of Pig which is thick bacon cooked with brown sugar and sriracha but both of us ate a half piece and stopped. I had the Pork Chop which was well cooked however the sauce they put on it just didn't go well with it and ruined the Pork Chop. My wife had the Steak-n-bake which is Wagyu Flank Steak with Herb butter and it just attested off so we didn't eat it. After a couple drinks and $120.00 later we left and will not return! read more

We needed up trying this place because we know the eye doctor in Valpo that is the owner. It's used to be Buck's shoe repair and was remodeled into the restaurant. They do have a pretty cool phot of that in there with some old shoe forms for decoration that I thought was a nice touch. The decorations are nice and simple, kind of the way I think I would decorate. It's small but cozy. It does get pretty loud in there because of that, but the atmosphere was nice. They have specials and specialty cocktails. Everything is small plates, but still more than enough food. The surf and turf was spot on and we also tried the poutine, which was a nice twist on the traditional. Also the bourbon pecan cake was delicious.
