Friendly neighborhood bar. This was our first time and I felt welcomed. Rene was great. Wasn't sure what to order so I went with the Detroit style pizza, based on other yelp reviews. There's only one size and had no idea it was $6 on Monday's. Plenty for 2 people for lunch. The pizza was good, a little too much Parmesan for my taste, but didn't stop me from eating it. The bill was only $30, 2 Bloody Mary's, 2 beers, 2 cocktails and the pizza. Looking forward to next time. read more

I really wanted to love the Detroit style pizza at this place. The pictures and the actual appearance of the pizza is fantastic. I couldn't figure out why such a beautiful pizza had such a funky taste. In retrospect it may have been that the entire pizza is heavily sprinkled with parmesan cheese. I love parm, but this really ruined the pizza. I asked if the sausage was chuck or crumbled and was told it was a combo. It's all crumbled and very salty. The service was great. The bartender was also the server and did a great job. The place is a "dive" in a good way but definitely a shot and beer joint. If you don't mind the cigarette smell I would try some other food then the Detroit pizza. read more

Tis a college bar located right off the tip of downtown Valparaiso. Our party of 12 was here on a Saturday night during Labor day weekend. It was not even close to being a full house. We managed to secure half of the patio to ourselves. Beer is fairly cheap. If you're a heavy beer drinker, this would be your place. There is a game room towards the back by the bathrooms. Our group went with the dart game and it kept us entertained for about two hours. Side note: Our group had a birthday boy wearing a "Happy Birthday" tiara. A few of the tenants sitting by the bar area was kind enough to have bought him at least four drinks. Good ole Indiana! read more

This is a very fun bar that caters to lots of different people, in my opinion. Theres bar stools all around the very long bartop that usually hosts the regulars. Then theres booths great for eating at, a dj and dancefloor, and a section kind of in the back with more tables a little bit away from the music to have a more intimate outting. The ony downside is as busy as they are they only seem to schedule one bartender and one ID checker when there should be at least 3 bartenders if not more, because the place can get packed fast! They also play good throwback music, I'd say thats my favorite part of the whole place. read more

Located in Valparasio, this bar is for the broke and the tasteless. If you are broke and all you drink is beer, this is the place for you. Their 32oz for 3 bucks is a very good deal, but the beer taste like piss. Their mix drinks are expensive and they pour only a little bit of liquor in your drink while filing the cup over the top with ice. A soco and coke is almost 5 dollars and you don't even feel the slightest buzz after drinking couple of them. The atmosphere is very dark and place is dirty. The men's urinal is just a metal tub that you have to share with the guy pissing right next to you. If you want a decent bar to enjoy your drink, then rage your money somewhere else. read more

I've contemplated for a while on the rating that I would give this place. Overall, my experience was not horrible, but there are a few things that need to change for this bar to be successful in my mind. First and foremost the bartender. Now I say bartender because the problem is with only one. A few friends and I were in town for a wedding and were doing a little pub crawl around town. We were told that Northside is the place to go for cheap drinks and a good time. My friends frequent this bar all the time. They were right. The drinks were cheap (3.50) for a tall beer. But there was one bartender who seemed that he just did not want to be there. He was a bigger guy, hat, blonde hair who was either serving what seemed to be his lady friend or just not behind the bar at all. Many times he would walk by people with empty glasses, without even asking if they wanted another drink. He did this to my friends and I several times in order to talk to her or watch baseball. Not once did I see him pick up a towel to clean the bar or empty an ashtray as they filled with cigarette butts. On the other hand, we met Jake. Jake was the ideal bartender. Very attentive and always doing something. Whether it was wiping down the bar with a minute to spare, to dumping the overflowing ashtrays as he walked by, he was always doing something. I didn't go more than 30 seconds before he would ask me or another customer if they needed anything. It's because of him that we spent the money that we did that night, and decided to stay at Northside. It is because of him, that next time we are in town, will stop in to say hi and have some drinks. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that would blow this other bartender out of the water and are looking for jobs. I hope that for their sake they do something about this soon. Overall, Northside is a great place if you are looking for well priced drinks, great food(which I will try next time) and Jake. It may serve out of plastic dixie cups, but who cares. If you bring the right crowd and the right friends, it is a great place to go. Kudos to Jake for showing us a good time, and we hope to see him in the future. read more

My wife and I stopped at Northside Tap Room on 4/23/11 while cruising through Indiana on the motorcycle. We both found this place to be a lot of fun. There is nothing fancy about this place, nor does it pretend to be. Several locals were drinking their draft beers out of clear plastic Dixie Cups. There is nothing pretentious about this place. If you have a good attitude the locals are extremely friendly, the bar tender is really sweet, and everybody just wants to have a good time. The beer was really cheap, the 1/2 pound burgers are delicious, and the wings were really good. I think our Bud long necks were like $3/piece, so very reasonable. My wife and I split an order of wings, each had a burger (adding onions, bacon, mushrooms, fries, & coleslaw), and 2 beers each. Our total was around 30-35 bucks. So not too bad at all. I could see this place being overcrowded at night with local college kids, that could change the experience slightly. We stopped in around 2 or 3 on a Sat afternoon and it was pretty cool, with just the older/local patrons. This is the kind of place where you can kick your feet up, and be yourself. This place is a dive. But living in Chicago we get our fair share of yuppy bars. So a dive was exactly what we were looking for. You have to understand when traveling, the dives will usually have some of the best food/bbq you've ever tasted. Would definitely recommend and will definitely go back when in the area again. Biker friendly, family friendly, wouldn't recommend bringing kids. read more

Average food, but the beer makes you question what you're eating because it tastes terrible. Their mixed drinks are overpriced and useless because the bartenders clearly don't want you to get drunk and spend too much money, so they load you up with your mixer and give you maybe a half shot of the booze. The bathroom is disgusting. The whole place kind of stinks -- as in, it smells bad. It seems like it should be sort of an awesome little dive bar, but instead it just gets the dive part and forgets all about the awesome.
