Food here is pretty delicious, but I think the star of the show is always their chocolate cake. I mean seriously do not leave here if you like chocolate without having a piece of cake if you can't eat it definitely take a piece to go with you. It's not a cheap slice of cake, but it is 100% worth it. I went to an event here where their chocolate cake was the dessert and so many people did not eat a piece of chocolate cake and luckily the staff had brought boxes so you could take cake home and since I was one of the last people there and nobody was taking cake home. We had a great experience here! Our server was fantastic, the food was delicious, and we felt most of our needs were adhered to. The restaurant sits right by the lake, and it's absolutely beautiful. Their chef is a maniac in the kitchen-started with warm baked bread/butter- our beer was a blueberry lemon Shandy (Crown Point Brewing.) We had the lighthouse burger which was excellent and a good size portion with fries. Hubby got the fried chicken sandwich w/pimento cheese spread, lettuce/tomato-amazing. As if that wasn't enough, we split an order of pineapple upside down cake w/vanilla ice cream and maple drizzle-OMG! We aren't even from the area but will be back. This was my second time at the lighthouse restaurant and I have to say I was blown away!! First of all, it's right on the lake and at sunset you feel like you are sitting out on the French Riviera. Beautiful indoors as well. Our apps included the spinach artichoke dip, burrata, and the calamari. The calamari was probably the best I have ever had. I had pineapple tinis which were great. I ordered the filet for dinner which came with two sides, I got mac&cheese and brussel sprouts. Like literally every single thing was delicious and out of this world. 10/10 experience. Came back to the Lighthouse for dinner and ordered the Brussels mac & cheese and the Wagyu burger. The Brussels and mac & cheese were excellent -- rich, flavorful, and definitely worth it. Unfortunately, the burger was mediocre at best. It didn't come close to competing with Bugaboos down the road, which also serves Wagyu burgers but executes them far better. I have now had the pleasure of Dino g here several times and I can say with confidence that this is such an amazing find in NWI. The views, the menu options and the fine dining feel without that fine dining process tag is amazing. Each time my service has been fantastic with helpful and pleasant servers and the drinks are always done well, I can never have just one! Making a reservation is simple and parking is plenty. Food was delicious and service was exceptional BUT due to weather we sat inside and were inundated with live singing piped in from the outside entertainment. Apparently this is new and they certainly don't have the logistics figured out yet. The musician's voice came through but whatever instruments were being played did not resulting in an annoying scratchy vocal. The entertainment outside may have been terrific but inside with just the one vocal piped through the 8 speakers in our room we could not have the wonderful experience we anticipated. As to the food, the fish and filet were expertly prepared and our waitress was one of the best we ever had but we won't return unless the music situation is resolved. read more

One star because our waitress was incredibly nice. Loss of stars is attributed to celebrating our wedding anniversary here with reservations months in advanced requesting a table with a view of the lake considering we got married here. We were given the worst table in the place off the darkest area of the restaurant, no joke, after walking past multiple tables with beautiful, even slightly decent views. The waitress then asks if we're here for anything special to which we say we got married here and we wanted to celebrate our anniversary. This was in our notes in our reservation that many restaurants that care actually pay attention to! On top of that, not even a small token of appreciation like a dessert or anything in celebration of our anniversary and, again, the fact we chose to go because this is where we got married. I've never regretted celebrating a special day at a restaurant more than I did here. In addition, the food was not what it used to be and the service was subpar. Dirty appetizer plates should not be cleared off after the entire dinner. Unfortunately, we will no longer frequent the place that is so special to us. read more

Last year I made a reservation for two at your restaurant, requesting a window seat because it was a special occasion. I made the reservation way in advance to accommodate this request. When we arrived, the hostess told us that she could not seat us at a window table on a Saturday night because you were too busy. I asked her how other people then were sitting at window table; she did not have a response. I told her it was a special occasion and asked her to check the reservation. She said yes, the request was there, but they cannot accommodate. I asked if we could wait in the bar for a window table and she said on a Saturday night it's just too busy. Needless to say I was frustrated. I asked her if there was anything she could do and she said no. I owned a "white linen" restaurant in San Diego for 13 years. If I would've ever dreamt of treating ANY customer the way your employee treated me, not only would they never come back, they probably would've started yelling. Since it was truly a special occasion, and there are not very many high-end restaurants in the area, I took matters into my own hands and spoke with the manager, who was finally able to work something out for us. It was only because of the good service we had and the outstanding meal that we would've ever considered coming back. But I'm sure as you are well aware, when one moves from a mecca of fine dining experiences to a culinary wasteland like Illinois, the options are pretty dismal. So again earlier this month we thought we would try to make a reservation for a window table at your restaurant for the same special occasion. Guess what happened when we arrived? And this was on a slow Wednesday night, which is exactly why we picked it! The hostess saw the reservation, saw the request for a window table for a special occasion, and proceeded to see us at a table that was through the bar, to the right and at the very end next to a concrete wall; my husband and I looked at each other in disbelief. Again, we played the same game of can we sit in the bar and wait where we were again told no. Apparently one of the hostesses is above the others and then asked me what was wrong, for which I explained the whole scenario again. I told this individual that I did NOT want to have to ask for the manager like I did the last time, but would not hesitate to do so if something was not done. There was a group huddle and whispering behind hands right in front of us! We were then led down to a table for six in the room by the windows. We could see that the hostesses or whoever all of these girls were up at the front desk had really no idea what to do in this situation. But they knew enough when they heard the word manager that they didn't want to get in trouble and then made it happen for us. The lightbulb went off. Apparently, when you train your employees, specifically hostesses, you are not teaching them that without customers, you have no business, therefore no money. It's a very simple theory. You could see that they were worried that they were going to get in "trouble". They weren't worried about the customer, who was really supposed to come first. They weren't told that they were in the people business first and that the food was the mechanism. I felt bad for these young girls because, contrary to the way we practiced business, they were not empowered in any way by their training to facilitate customers needs. Leading with fear is not a good business model. We had an outstanding server and an excellent meal. We did not let what happened to us AGAIN ruin our evening. We tipped her very well because she performed exactly as someone in the hospitality industry should and accommodated us supremely. I see that you're spending quite a bit of money on upgrades or repairs to your exterior. If I may do so, I might suggest that some of that money be spent on training your employees to remember what I stated quite simply above: if you don't remember to keep the customer number one, and you don't empower your employees to do so, you will have NO CUSTOMERS AND NO MONEY. read more

I just had the best time here last night and Stephanie, our server, made my catch-up time with a friend, so much fun and enjoyable! When I had initially arrived, she saw that I was looking for my friend, and so sweetly showed me the way. Our table overlooked the water and we were able to see an amazing sunset all while having loads of deliciousness! I had the pork chop with almond rice and sautéed mushrooms and spinach as my included sides, which was amazing and wish I would've taken a photo of it, but the portion was large enough for me to take home and make another meal of it. I was assured that it was a half of turkey. It was a loaf and was not edible. It's in the garbage now. We have lived 2 blocks from Tobes (Lighthouse) for over 20 years. Staff very scattered and we kept asking for things missed. Pictures wouldn't have done justice to the food - better than it looked. We have been coming to the Lighthouse since it first opened up. We have date nights, family dinners, birthday celebrations here. We have even used their upstairs party room for Bridal and Baby shows. This place is our go to restaurant. We have become friends with their managers and staff. Some we consider like family. Our top notch waitress is Kelli. We have a pretty regular Wednesday reservation with her. Her attentive waitressing to our needs and family is excellent, her bright similar and friendliness is above par. On a Friday evening at 6 PM you run out of the house white wine ? Of course you have another white option at a much higher price. I ordered my meal blackened , it was not . I had to send my potatoes back , they were cold , and we dined with fruit flies the entire evening swarming our food . Am I being too hard ? I dined here a year ago and everything was perfect so perhaps it was a bad night but when two people spend 200 for dinner you want it to be at least average.
