Skip the biscuits and gravy, they're bland but are as expected for the type of diner this is. Fairly priced. Service is always fast. Gyro plate was tasteless. The menu said gyro meat was cut from the spit but the spit was empty. Chicken rice soup was a generous portion but was too heavy on onion and too light on chicken. Chicken fingers were meh at best. The side salad was fine. Seasoned fries were undercooked and not seasoned at all. Plus side - waitress was attentive and had a positive attitude and big smile. Owner/manager was friendly and seemed to want to service his customers. Ambiance is a cute Mayberry RFD theme - kitschy. Our bill without tip was just under $40 for a mediocre lunch for two. A simple homegrown small town cafe, and considering that's what it is, everything was pretty good. It's not five star food, but my burger was good and everyone else at the table was happy with their food. One improvement I'd suggest is not using all iceberg lettuce for the salads - it's kinda bland. But the staff was all friendly and welcoming which was nice! I'd also suggest some more thorough cleaning of tables and on the ground before new groups sit down. They were quite busy when we arrived for lunch, but it wasn't fun stepping on food under our table. Good prices and decent food - worth a stop if you need a quick bite. read more

Truth be told, I have not eaten here in a bit but saw this and had to leave a review of my experiences. I have eaten here about 3 times. Each time was for breakfast and the food was good. We ordered the lake perch and it was hard and dried out. Chicken and dumpling soup was bland. My salad had hardly any green color in it. The crackers were stale. The rolls were stale. I would never return or recommend this restaurant to anyone. What a waste of money. read more

Been wanting to stop here for sometime now. The sign on the building is old and faded but the inside is nice. There are pictures off all the main actors from mayberry RFD. The chili is good but not spicy to me. I also had a baked potato. The person I was with ordered a lite breakfast platter. It had one folded scrambled egg and quite a bit off sausage and potatoes. So I believe you get a bang for your buck. The waitress was very attentive and full of energy..She made sure to get every order right and accommodate any extras a person would like. This place is perfectly named as you would swear you stepped back in time. While you won't meet Sheriff Andy or Deputy Barney, you will meet Aunt Bea and Helen Krump and Thelma Lou - all masquerading as waitstaff. And the interior of the restaurant has lots of seating and cute mementoes on the walls, and is a throwback to the Mayberry era ... no frills and just enough, serving up great food. While there are many restaurants that serve breakfast food, this place was really special ... and we say that with full knowledge that eggs and sausage are just eggs and sausage. You won't find strange sounding offerings on their menu - just plain old-fashioned good food prepared right. This place is truly a throwback with good food and low prices. Very disappointed in the treatment we received from our prospective waitress. We arrived 45 minutes before the noon closing time. We asked for a table for five as we were waiting for three more people. At 11:45 our waitress raked us over the coals for tying her table up for "over an hour!" And costing her money--it certainly wasn't our fault that our friends didn't arrive! Yes, I am sorry it happened, but the waitress was way out of line! I've been going to Mayberry since 2019, with a veterans group. We were just there a few days ago. All of us enjoy the food and the atmosphere. We usually get something from the breakfast menu. Omelets, pancakes, and skillets seem to be our usual orders. You know the food is good when the conversation and jokes cease and the sound of forks and knives tap the plates. We always leave with well filled bellies. You get a very good amount of food for the money with home town friendliness. The decorations are really Mayberry USA throughout. I always see something I missed before. They also have a section for veterans' pictures. If you're looking for a good restaurant that isn't part of a chain business, you can't go wrong stopping in Mayberry Junction. read more

2-22-23 Very nice place, server was super helpful and great. I initially wanted breakfast, Stephanie wasn't sure. The waitress gave us the rundown of the specials. Steph decided on the breaded cod sandwich, I changed to the alpine burger. Steph thought of something more than a square mcFish style sandwich. My alpine burger was good and soup was great. We definitely want to return but I wanted a good breakfast and should have ordered one as I saw others getting some rather awesome looking dishes. On my way to get some car work and work work done. I had an hour to spare so I decided to eat it was 11am...!!! And no food. I stopped here it looked friendly and it was. Mona was my server she was fast freindly and went above and beyond. I ordered my own special: 2 eggs over easy, sausage, hash browns andddd corn beef hash...my favorite. 2 pcs of toast accompanied the meal.i washed this down with a small orange juice...all for $17.96. Food was great and fast ...even my toast was buttered. I didnt get a chance to look at all of the menu due to hunger. Check this "Andy Griffith show" themed restaurant out. This is one of my favorite places, it is a 25-30 drive for me to go here. My last visit I've got to say was one of my worst experiences ever in a restaurant. I asked the waitress what the specials were, she got so mad so quickly, instant angry face and the tone she used when she says in response to my question you mean you didn't bother to look at the sign when you came in? Before I could even respond, she stormed away and as she walked away she says I'll come back later! Now I'm in the penalty box, I'm not sure how long it will be before she comes back. The specials sign is by the front door and usually blocked by people waiting to pay their bill or to get in. Also you can't see it from where they seated me. The list of specials usually is only three items and the two soups of the day, so not long. She made sure I understood that she was mad at me because I asked what the specials were. So I left, explained to the hostess as I left that I certainly wasn't in the mood to be yelled at by the waitress simply for asking what the specials were. So I've taken a few days to make sure I've calmed down before I wrote this review. This really was one of my favorite places. , The food is really good and the other staff is very friendly. I've not decided yet if I'll bother to go back.. There is another really good place that's about the same distance due east of me, I'm going to try that one out tomorrow. read more

I just love going here when visiting the Sunrise Nursery. It is nothing fancy but it is a total blast to the past! The soups are delicious!!! All of the meals that ai have had there are very good. I Love this place. The atmosphere is awesome the staff is almost always friendly and their accuracy on order fulfillment is Pristine. The food is absolutely fabulous and they give you good portions worth every cent of your money. Only negative I have for Mayberry is that they don't sell Creamy Chicken Dumpling every single day!!! They only have it Saturday but it's the best soup I've ever had in my Life and that's not an exaggeration. A lot of places have doughy floury dumplings but these are just so full of flavor with a great texture. I will always support them here. read more

The coffee is the worst ever. It had a sewer smell and scum floating on the top. I was in a party of 6 and 5 drinking coffee. All 5 never asked for another cup. After complaining we still had to pay for that discussing tar. I suggest the village of Manteno use the coffee/tar when repairing any potholes in the street. Well, while nothing to look at, the food is pretty good. I am a huge fan of their Saturday soup of chicken and dumpling. We stop in for breakfast or lunch when we can. I can't leave zero stars. This morning, my Mom, myself, and 3 of her girlfriends went to Mayberry Junction to have breakfast. I have to work this afternoon, and we did an early breakfast to round out my Moms Birthday. After doing my order first, I explicitly explained that I have Celiac Disease and can't have wheat/gluten and gave the instructions of how to prepare my meal. Asking about potatoes. (I can't have them because they're fried in the same oil) The waitress was really receptive, told me what I could and could not eat. My Meal arrives WITH HASHBROWNS in the skillet. Waitress feels terrible. Brings meal back. I was told they would remake me a new skillet. Meal arrives for the second time. Looks fine, as I'm 1/2 way through eating it, I crunch a potato. I scrape apart my skillet. There are hashbrown pieces in my skillet. Waitress feels absolutely awful, and tells us she will comp our meal. At this time the owner comes out and looks at my skillet and asks "Whats wrong now?" I tell her that I can't eat this because it had hashbrowns in it, and I'm severly allergic. That they did not make me a new breakfast, they just reserved me the first one. She leaves table. The bill is brought out to us, and my meal is scratched out and $4.00 is written above it. My Mom says "for what?" The waitress gets the owner, and the owner says to me "Well, you ate half of it!" I looked at her and said in a normal tone..."are you kidding me? This is unbelievable!" she then YELLS AT ME "GET OUT! AND NEVER COME BACK!" AND RIPS THE TICKET UP IN FRONT OF MY FACE....and she has yelled so loudly that the entire restaurant stopped. The table next to us had no idea what was going on because they were just seated. I had started crying because I was mortified. I have never been treated so terribly, and so unprofessionally at a restaurant. My Mom explained as she was being told to leave (after my Mom had tipped the waitress---again, not her fault!) that I have celiac disease, to the couple at the next table- and the owner had the audacity to tell my Mom "If she needed 'Special Accomodations' she should have said something." I am now waiting this out at my Moms house to see how I'm feeling before I make a 2 hour drive home. Don't come back? Don't worry, we won't. read more

Second time here and really love this place. Both times my server has been Katie and had AMAZING service. Nadine seems really nice too. I'd have to say that they are known for the broasted Chicken and is a great meal. Just realize even though you can be a big eater you'll probably be taking some home which to me is always a plus.I prefer quality over quantity but if the quality is great why not have more. It's a Mayberry theme inside (Andy Griffith show) so look for the Gomer Ribs and the Aunt Bea/Opie/Floyd the barber named dishes. Mayberry Junction is everything you really want and expect in a small town restaurant which, imho, is great, fast, friendly service and great food in big portions and a great atmosphere. Breakfast food is great. The homemade soups that come with certain meals are great and you can get them in a bread bowl. Trying to get a recommendation I spoke with some locals in a gas station before coming here and asked what is there favorite food at Mayberry Junction. Both replied "everything". My friend suggested Mayberry Junction as a spot we needed to try out. It's been getting a lot of local press in the Daily Journal, so we needed to see what the hubub was about. Although I like to find the newest places, I'm always down for a classic diner experience and this is what Mayberry promises. When we walked in, we weren't greeted as if we were old friends. We were looked at like we didn't fit in. Since I feel like a freak 96% of the time, I shrugged it off with an optimistic attitude. The same person threw the menus in our hands, along with the check, and told us to go sit at table # (whatever.. I can't remember what number.) I half thought it was a joke and that she was just giving us an idea of where we were headed, but when I said "Um. Which table is that?" She pointed while she made her way back to the stool behind the counter. This most certainly wasn't a joke. At this point, I was tempted to walk out. It really, really rubbed me the wrong way. When our server made it to our table, she was extremely welcoming and almost made our strange entrance seem like less of a deal. She told us the specials and offered us drinks. She kept our drinks full throughout the whole meal and made a recommendation to me when I couldn't decide what soup to order. I decided on the stuffed pepper soup and the patty melt. The stuffed pepper soup was decent, but barely warm. I think this could have stood to be nuked in the microwave another 30 seconds. On the other hand, the patty melt was scolding hot. It was really quite tasty and something I would order again. The fries were nothing special and may have just been frozen fries. Aside from the food and service, I found this place decorated very strangely. I have no problem with restaurants that are on the kitschy side, but if you're going to have a theme, then commit to it and stick with it. This was somewhat decorated in the Andy Griffith theme, but the theme wasn't quite developed all the way through. I found the food pretty good, but the reason for 3 stars is that I probably wouldn't ever come back here.
