    Breakfast at Lori's dinner.
    Robert S.

I saw Lori's while driving through Kankakee and decided I needed to stop in and check it out in the future. I love diners! There's something about them that make me think of simpler times when men dressed in suits with a hat and stopped in a diner for a cup of joe and a slice of pie. Very good food, good prices, friendly service, colorful locals. I had eggs over hard, crispy bacon, hash browns, and toast done dark. (Sorry, it's called "toast" not warm bread) Every thing came well prepared. The eggs weren't burnt, a big plus! The toast comes pre-buttered and the jelly is already picked out for you. I'm sure that keeps the prices down and I like that. I had an OJ too and it was good. I've never tried the lunch menu, I don't know if they serve pie or great coffee. I do know that this is my breakfast place of choice for this area, and I would recommend it to anyone driving by the 312 exit on I57 in the morning. It's not right by the exit, but it's wrote the less than 2 miles you'll drive to get there. Oh, and drive slow. The is area is marked with 30 and 25 MPH signs, with a few hidden police along the way. Stop in, relax, remember a simpler time, enjoy breakfast!

In the years since its demise, the building has housed several restaurants. Perhaps the most notorious replacement was Piggies(or something like that name). The owner in the 1980's painted the building pink as an act of defiance against the village. Later, the owner took it one step further and set fire to the building to gather Insurance proceeds. He was convicted of arson in local circuit court. Well, as I said, a few months ago, I decided to try the new restaurant occupying this classic downtown space on Broadway. I was relatively optimistic as I entered the restaurant with a friend. We selected a booth with an excellent view of the then operating dry cleaner across the street. I chose as my meal a basic breakfast staple: French toast... So, nothing fancy, like Eggs Benedict. When my French toast arrived, at first, I thought the waitress had brought the plate to the wrong table, because I did not really recognize the food on my plate as French toast. Well, when questioned, the waitress admitted that the plate she brought to my table was in fact the order I had placed. So, I settled in and began to eat the food on my plate. It resembled in some ways French toast, I suppose. But, in critical ways, related to texture and taste what I tried to eat was not French toast. Rather, it was somebody's idea of a concoction that built upon the concept of French toast. Perhaps that was a good artistic idea, but it did not satisfy my need for French toast. I have not been back.

My husband had eggs, which had egg shells in them. I'm so thankful they are using real eggs, but l could do without the shells. The bacon in my omelette was undercooked and so were my hash browns. I appreciate the speed at which we were served, but would be more than happy to wait a few more minutes so things could be cooked properly. I think this place has loads of potential, but needs to slow a bit to make sure their basics are done correctly.

We sat at the bar and the bartender is super attentive 1 o'clock in the afternoon on a Thursday and it's not very busy The music is decent not too loud. There are a lot of TVs. We ordered Reuben combo with pastrami and corned beef with a side of macaroni and cheese and we also ordered a side of the cornbread casserole just because it's something unique and different to try. As for the sandwich we both enjoyed it although it's a little smoky Mac & cheese is okay. It definitely could use green onions on top to dress it And the cornbread casserole is a homemade cornbread that's soft with like a kind of cream filling and loaded with corn it was my least favorite We also ordered a couple old-fashioned. I don't like that they have the little ice cubes, butdrinks are tasty.

Ambiance, food, drinks and service were all top notch! We sat under the massive old timey stained glass chandelier at the big community table. What a neat idea. I had the bison burger. Perfectly seasoned and cooked to a beautiful medium just as I requested. The coleslaw had a bit too much onion, but it was still good. My Mom had tots with the trio wrap. It was so deliciously smokey. And a "fall off the porch" drink that was just peachy and not too strong for her. But Beau was the shining star of our visit. He took time to go over the menu and make suggestions. And was very attentive to refill our waters and check in after we had our first few bites without hovering. I will definitely be back soon to try the wings!

Topping at 89 degrees with a little breeze, it felt wonderful. A cute little lake view with a park for the kiddos. It was a decent place for any day outing. Just a nice view and something for everyone to enjoy their afternoon. Ryan's Pier had plenty of seating inside and out. A full bar with plenty of options. I ordered a margarita nothing too fancy but still really good. Menu was simple with burgers, wraps, quesadillas and a kiddos menu. A typical bar menu. Except Ryan's Pier was a total hit, and our new lunch time outing! Everything was really good! We ordered the kids cheese quesadilla, chicken wrap with onion petals and some homemade crab cakes. Everything was really delicious for our lunchtime and very much appeasing. Our entrees came out hot and ready! Didn't take no time! Our waitress and the staff were terrific! Nice smiles with great hospitality. The women were patient and pretty much laid back. Good service, nice view and great company is always a great time! Always my motto! Check em out!

Saturday (11:00am-9:00pm) and Sunday (12:00pm-8:00pm) MONDAY-THURSDAY (10:30am-8:30pm) FRIDAY (10:30am-9:00pm) The river is across the street (mostly gravel) from the restaurant. There's parking along the river side and more parking in the back of the restaurant. The restaurant is a bit tired but clean, bathrooms were spotless, but the woman's was a bit warm - I guess the AC doesn't reach the bathroom. 4 slot machines are right inside the door next to the bar (which is fairly large). There are 5 booths along the walls with about the same amount of tables. Another room in front with about 5 round tables too. Theres a large fire burning fireplace out in front with a few tables & chairs. Today there was a large tent out in front with a lot of tables and chairs. I had a Denver omelet (ham, onion, bell pepper) which looked to be about 2 eggs, hash browns and rye toast. The eggs were a bit overcooked but not bad. My husband had 2 eggs (scrambled), large slice of grilled ham, with biscuit & gravy (the biscuit seemed to be a bit doughy) and two sausage links. It all tasted pretty good. Coffee was pretty good, not bitter at all but held up to my added cream & sugar. They don't offer poached eggs (Benedicts are served with sunny side up) or grits. Service was a bit slow, but not too bad. It would've been nice to have our coffee filled more and I went and got a menu myself since we'd been sitting there awhile without having one (or coffee).
