No pastrami pancakes here. Bummer. That said, breakfast was basic but good--eggs, bacon, coffee, the classics. Sometimes that's all you really need. The vibe is super local, definitely one of those "everybody knows your name" joints. Felt like I should've walked in wearing a nametag that said "Norm." points because my waitress was a Styx fan--nothing like sipping coffee while talking Come Sail Away. Rock and eggs? Solid combo. tip: you can't add your tip later on the receipt, gotta do it when you ring out. I just left a cash tip--felt right anyway. Kept it homie.Overall? Cozy, friendly, no-frills, and exactly the kind of place you want when you're eating with the locals.

Somehow, Someway, they make simple items like scrambled eggs and (buttery) hash browns taste better than the other guys. For the hungry man, I recommend the butcher's omelet or the meat lover's skillet. Deservedly so, this joint is usually busy, but the tableside atmosphere is relaxed. Food is delivered promptly, and your coffee cup will be refilled. The service is outstanding and competent. One reason is that many employees have worked there for over 10 years, and many for over 15. I am now a regular and visit once or twice a week. P.S. Their homemade potato chips are cooked per order and delivered warm to your table!

Perhaps the most notorious replacement was Piggies(or something like that name). The owner in the 1980's painted the building pink as an act of defiance against the village. Later, the owner took it one step further and set fire to the building to gather Insurance proceeds. He was convicted of arson in local circuit court. Well, as I said, a few months ago, I decided to try the new restaurant occupying this classic downtown space on Broadway. I was relatively optimistic as I entered the restaurant with a friend. We selected a booth with an excellent view of the then operating dry cleaner across the street. I chose as my meal a basic breakfast staple: French toast... So, nothing fancy, like Eggs Benedict. When my French toast arrived, at first, I thought the waitress had brought the plate to the wrong table, because I did not really recognize the food on my plate as French toast. Well, when questioned, the waitress admitted that the plate she brought to my table was in fact the order I had placed. So, I settled in and began to eat the food on my plate. It resembled in some ways French toast, I suppose. But, in critical ways, related to texture and taste what I tried to eat was not French toast. Rather, it was somebody's idea of a concoction that built upon the concept of French toast. Perhaps that was a good artistic idea, but it did not satisfy my need for French toast. I have not been back.

He brought our drink orders and took our orders. I ordered the Country Road skillet. The gravy and cheese underlying the eggs made for an exquisite flavor profile. My son ordered the incredible hulk omelet. Massive portion, but he ate the whole thing. Really really good meal. Not great. --I ordered the two eggs breakfast, scrambled with cheddar cheese, ham, diced potatoes, and pancakes. --eggs, ham, and potatoes were good. Really enjoyed the pancakes. --My wife ordered a side of bacon, didn't love the bacon, but the portions were very generous. Overall recommended.
