My boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak with hashbrowns and egg as well as a biscuit. The biscuit was nice and fluffy, the chicken fried steak with gravey was flavorful and the hash browns were lightly crispy. Staff was friendly, restaurant was clean. Would definitely recommend this spot. read more

Rolled into Chatterbox Café in Kankakee because I saw a review talking about pastrami pancakes. Now, I'm always down for the weird-but-good food combos... except, plot twist--that review was for the wrong place. No pastrami pancakes here. Bummer. That said, breakfast was basic but good--eggs, bacon, coffee, the classics. Sometimes that's all you really need. The vibe is super local, definitely one of those "everybody knows your name" joints. Felt like I should've walked in wearing a nametag that said "Norm." points because my waitress was a Styx fan--nothing like sipping coffee while talking Come Sail Away. Rock and eggs? Solid combo. tip: you can't add your tip later on the receipt, gotta do it when you ring out. I just left a cash tip--felt right anyway. Kept it homie.Overall? Was in town visiting family and another popular brunch spot had a very long wait. I looked up nearby restaurants, Chatterbox had 4 stars, called and there was no wait so that was a no brainer. My MIL had never been here. It's a quaint little spot that is off the path, which explains why it's not super busy. However once we got seated it did fill up completely! The prices are b very reasonable!!!! I had basic 1 egg, sausage, hash browns with a biscuit. The biscuits are DELICIOUS!!!! Son has choc chip pancakes and MIL had 1/2 French toast with 1 egg. If I was hungrier I would have tried the country fried steak. Overall such a cute no frills place! read more

This is a very small restaurant. NOTHING wrong with that at all, just letting everyone know that parking is limited. Ambiance is nice for its size. Quaint and homey. The service has always been friendly and the food is outstanding. I have only eaten breakfast here, and every time I had...walked away full, satisfied and not broke. We took a Saturday drive and had a late breakfast here. I had the eggs and French toast, and I had 1 slice of bacon and 1 sausage link. My husband had the full order of biscuits and gravy with sausage patties. We were both satisfied and we would consider trying them for lunch. read more

This is the quintessential small town, small business owner that will rock you world with the service and food you would come to expect. The claim to fame is "The Mess," for breakfast. Personally I was torn between that the the Chicken fried steak. Well I opted for, "The Mess" and found the amount of potato hash browns overwhelmed the dish. The flavors were all muddled together. In its self typically isn't an issue but the excessive hash seem to take away from what I feel is an amazing concoction. Service was exceptionally good and friendly staff. read more

Tiny little place with a host of local people who likely come every weekend. Three in our party on a Sunday morning we ordered, Hobo Skillet, Country breakfast and biscuits and gravy. Now what do these have in common? Ans. Sausage Gravy. And it was horrible. It was nothing more than warm milk with little to zero sausage in it. American fries were good. Bacon was good. Link sausage was good. Coffee was mediocre. Sausage gravy was horrible. I'm from the south and a breakfast restaurant lives or dies based on it's sausage gravy. The Chatter Box is dead to me. This place is an out of the way gem. Great mom and pop place with good but unpretentious food. Try "The Mess". And they may have the best biscuits I've ever had! When you're looking for this place, don't be surprised by the location. It's in a kind of older residential and industrial area. But it's a cute place and very clean and friendly staff. I had the Denoyer Special, chicken fried chicken covered with country gravey, with eggs, potatoes, and toast. The chicken is fantastic, nice and crispy. The hash browns are crispy also, not limp and whimpy like most places. I would highly recommend this place. read more

Edit: We come here anually before we go snorkeling at the Haigh Quarry. I will come here any time I'm close enough as I don't live in the area. The food here is just fantastic! Every year I have something different and every year we can't wait to come back. The staff here is every bit as good as the food! A seriously hidden gem of an establishment and every year we come back to Chicagoland raving about this place to anyone that will listen Old review from 2013: I had the country fried steak and was just as good as the place I ate at called Dee Dee's Diner in South Carolina These are the only two times I've had this dish so maybe I don't know what the hell I'm talking about but I thought it was delicious, as was the biscuit I asked for instead of the toast The girl who runs the joint came to our table and was very nice to talk to, the waitress gave us shit and had us laughing A good time was had by all Everything was good but the hash browns left something to be desired, keeping this from a 5 star review We will be back next year when we go to the quarry read more

Excellent and friendly service never had to ask for anything ,coffee cup always full . Found few unusual items on the menu decided to try the chili omelet? So if you like eggs and chili you gotta try . Only issue was they got little rush just as I ordered and this affected kitchen time but not quality. read more

Best kept secret in Bradley. Glad I was told about it. I go about twice a week. Amazing food, and the best service around. The waitresses are the best, they remember my kids names and their orders. They have coloring books and plenty of Lollipops too. Try the grilled biscuits and gravy. read more

Have been here several times, and really enjoy it. The food is pretty great, especially compared with anything in the area. I've had the country steak, many of their skillets amd pancakes and have yet to be disappointed. Plus most patrons are really friendly and easy going, which makes a very comfortable and delicious breakfast or brunch Reminds me of a toned down version of Lou Mitchells in Chicago (which btw, is awesome) read more

Perhaps the most notorious replacement was Piggies(or something like that name). The owner in the 1980's painted the building pink as an act of defiance against the village. Later, the owner took it one step further and set fire to the building to gather Insurance proceeds. He was convicted of arson in local circuit court. Well, as I said, a few months ago, I decided to try the new restaurant occupying this classic downtown space on Broadway. I was relatively optimistic as I entered the restaurant with a friend. We selected a booth with an excellent view of the then operating dry cleaner across the street. I chose as my meal a basic breakfast staple: French toast... So, nothing fancy, like Eggs Benedict. When my French toast arrived, at first, I thought the waitress had brought the plate to the wrong table, because I did not really recognize the food on my plate as French toast. Well, when questioned, the waitress admitted that the plate she brought to my table was in fact the order I had placed. So, I settled in and began to eat the food on my plate. It resembled in some ways French toast, I suppose. But, in critical ways, related to texture and taste what I tried to eat was not French toast. Rather, it was somebody's idea of a concoction that built upon the concept of French toast. Perhaps that was a good artistic idea, but it did not satisfy my need for French toast. Both were amazing! The chef made the pancakes fresh to order and the chef felt they turned out too small so he made my husband another larger batch and gave him both! The chicken artichoke Gouda crepe was like nothing you get at any other diners. The crepe was delicate while still sturdy to hold the savory contents, and it had just the slightest sweet taste which compliment very well the grilled chicken pieces mixed with artichoke hearts, sundried tomato's . spinach, Gouda, and a lovely Gouda crème. 10 of 10 recommend!

Somehow, Someway, they make simple items like scrambled eggs and (buttery) hash browns taste better than the other guys. For the hungry man, I recommend the butcher's omelet or the meat lover's skillet. Deservedly so, this joint is usually busy, but the tableside atmosphere is relaxed. Food is delivered promptly, and your coffee cup will be refilled. The service is outstanding and competent. One reason is that many employees have worked there for over 10 years, and many for over 15. I am now a regular and visit once or twice a week. P.S. Their homemade potato chips are cooked per order and delivered warm to your table!
