Happy Sunday! Here at Ryan's Pier, my daughter and I enjoyed our first time here for lunch. Weather was beautiful with all the shine sun on this gorgeous Sunday. Topping at 89 degrees with a little breeze, it felt wonderful. A cute little lake view with a park for the kiddos. It was a decent place for any day outing. Just a nice view and something for everyone to enjoy their afternoon. Ryan's Pier had plenty of seating inside and out. A full bar with plenty of options. I ordered a margarita nothing too fancy but still really good. Menu was simple with burgers, wraps, quesadillas and a kiddos menu. A typical bar menu. Except Ryan's Pier was a total hit, and our new lunch time outing! Everything was really good! We ordered the kids cheese quesadilla, chicken wrap with onion petals and some homemade crab cakes. Everything was really delicious for our lunchtime and very much appeasing. Our entrees came out hot and ready! Didn't take no time! Our waitress and the staff were terrific! Breakfast is only served on Saturday(5:30am-10:30am) and Sunday(5:30am-10:45am) after breakfast the kitchen closes to set up for lunch. Saturday (11:00am-9:00pm) and Sunday (12:00pm-8:00pm) MONDAY-THURSDAY (10:30am-8:30pm) FRIDAY (10:30am-9:00pm) The river is across the street (mostly gravel) from the restaurant. There's parking along the river side and more parking in the back of the restaurant. The restaurant is a bit tired but clean, bathrooms were spotless, but the woman's was a bit warm - I guess the AC doesn't reach the bathroom. 4 slot machines are right inside the door next to the bar (which is fairly large). There are 5 booths along the walls with about the same amount of tables. Another room in front with about 5 round tables too. Theres a large fire burning fireplace out in front with a few tables & chairs. Today there was a large tent out in front with a lot of tables and chairs. I had a Denver omelet (ham, onion, bell pepper) which looked to be about 2 eggs, hash browns and rye toast. The eggs were a bit overcooked but not bad. My husband had 2 eggs (scrambled), large slice of grilled ham, with biscuit & gravy (the biscuit seemed to be a bit doughy) and two sausage links. It all tasted pretty good. Coffee was pretty good, not bitter at all but held up to my added cream & sugar. They don't offer poached eggs (Benedicts are served with sunny side up) or grits. Service was a bit slow, but not too bad. It would've been nice to have our coffee filled more and I went and got a menu myself since we'd been sitting there awhile without having one (or coffee). read more

Food: I had the chili cheese hot dog (times 2). They come with fries, but I chose coleslaw for the second one. Delicious covered in chili and cheese and cooked wonderfully. Stopped in after playing a round of golf. Nice little Irish bar by the river with a solid view. Looking at the menu, I thought they'd have more Irish food, it was your typical burger and bar food joint. I was going to get the beer battered cod but when I saw someone else get it, it looked unimpressive. However, the Hawaiian Burger caught my eye and I decided to give it a try. The presentation was very good and the flavor was delicious. It doesn't have a sauce on it which I felt was needed, a sweet teriyaki would have been perfect but I went with their BBQ sauce which also was an excellent addition. I took a desert to go because they are homemade and looked really good. Overall I really enjoyed the meal and the bartender did a good job handling a full bar on her own. read more

Great little spot off the river. My burger and fries were great and the service was pleasant. My partner ordered a BLT as a sandwich since they offered it as a wrap (weird to list it as a wrap but no option as a sandwich) and the bottom slice of toast was so soggy and wet it was impossible to pick up. Had to eat it with a knife and fork unfortunately. Otherwise it was good and we'll probably return to order something different. read more

The porky burger was absolutely sublime! The utmost care was put into its composition and presentation. Didn't try anything alcoholic but the orange juice was great. Music is calming and the view is scenic as well. Recommended for sure. read more

Had a great evening at Ryan's Pier tonight! The potato skins appetizer had the right creamy consistency of potato and crispiness of potato skin. We split a Reuben sandwich, and the corned beef was very moist and tender and fries were flavorful and crunchy. The live entertainment was an unexpected bonus! We will be back! read more

Excellent place for a beer and blt. They have sides like cottage cheese, apple sauce and Mac and cheese which is fun. Build your burger place. I enjoy the basic spinach salad. Their bacon is perfect. It's nice also because it over looks the river and has a very nice patio! read more

Great local restaurant! I would always get food here when I worked at the local FD, I recently moved down the road and have had lots of food here, I havent been disappointed. Sandwiches, wraps, and dinners are great plus daily specials! I personally like trying their unique burgers, the apple bacon burger is a must try, my go to is the bacon cheddar burger on pretzel bun. Recently just tried the twisted pickle burger (pictured) has fried pickles, ranch, bacon, with 1/2lbs patty cooked medium. Soo good and juicy. Their fries are awesome too. To start off, this place is really a "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant. However, it is a good "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant. The burgers are the best part about this place. Juicy, flavorful, and you can get them cooked however you want. They have a rather large selection of toppings, all of which that I have had are good, Except the grilled onions. Stay away from those, unless you like your onions to taste like iron. On Thursdays, they have beer battered onion rings and mushrooms. These things are awesome! The batter is light and crispy, but yet they have good flavor. They serve these two appetizers with a dill-sour cream dip of some sort. Whatever it is, it is really good! The only bad thing about this place is that the service can be slow sometimes, but that is kind of expected with a "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant. After looking at the menu we decided on giving Ryan's a try. Only the server was wearing a mask, no one working behind the bar was wearing one. We still went in and found a table in the corner The food was a mix. While the hamburger was large, the Buffalo sauce was put on so heavily - it literally ran down your hands when it was picked it up. The hot chips ($2 extra) were cooked more to a paper towel consistency. It seemed as if they were pulled out of the fryer, not done completely, and put on the plate stuck together - with the majority of them limp. My steak sandwich was bland and with fatty sections. After cutting that out, even after adding A1, it still was not worth the price. It was not crowded, we were the only table filled for a bit; so the cook should not have been in a rush. We'll give it another try at some point - do like to support neighborhood businesses. read more

I came here to have some coffee and visit an old pal from my home town. The pancakes were recommended and I am so glad that we said YES to the pancake! My husband and I each had one, and it was enough for us since we just wanted coffee at first. The coffee was excellent, by the way. I always judge a good restaurant by its coffee - this one passed my own personal jury. We sat on the patio on a beautiful autumn day and had coffee and succumbed to the suggestion that we get the pancakes which are an old family recipe. They are thinner, larger, and lighter than a regular pancake, crispier on the edges but not so thin like a crepe. It was delicious and I would definitely order it again. I slathered butter on that thing and called it a day. The bar itself is pretty big, it is decorated in a old pub style, rather dark-ish inside. There are a couple of dining rooms where several tables were enjoying their breakfasts. Ryan's Pier has a lovely view, right by the river and out back there seems to be a forest. There is a beautiful patio for smoking, and a fireplace when the need arises for one. Give Ryan's Pier a try. My brother in law, unbeknownst to me until after we had dined, had eaten here several times and says their food is darn good, especially the hamburger. Although I don't live in the area, I will definitely come back to Ryan's Pier when visiting. You should too! read more

I'm amazed when I read the Yelp reviews for this place. Most people find Ryan's to be a great place. I'm guessing that the fact that they're on the river makes some people feel good. The view of the river is obstructed by a small parking lot and is only accessible if you sit at the bar or on cheap plastic lawn chairs in the front of the dining area. First, I'd like to mention that this is not the same place that it was 20-30 years ago. An absentee daughter-owner is now in charge and acts out in a way that suggests she is not happy to be there. Kind of unpleasant. Also, the men's room is filthy which suggests management is unconcerned about basic customer needs and cleanliness. Not good. As for the food, it's hard to screw up a hamburger or fried chicken but Ryan's seem to be able to. My opinion: fair to terrible. The variety of beer is very good as are the prices. The older female staff is friendly but it's hit or miss. The nephew or whatever is a typical millennial with a bit of a power trip attitude. I'd like to say something nice since I used to take my family here fairly regularly. Those days are long gone. Just my opinion. I'd really like to like this place but...sorry. read more

Been there a few times. Had the pulled pork sandwich a couple times and it was perfect. Kids and Hubby had burgers and ate every last bite. Had spaghetti on the special night and could barely eat it. In town for a gymnastics meet that ended with a teammate in ER. She was fine and we decided to find a local spot for some well deserved comfort food and hopefully a TV for the Blues game before driving 4 hours home. This suited us quite well. We were greeted by the friendly bartender and seated ourselves in a booth. Definitely not the fanciest place, a little dated, but it was cozy and dotted with lots of Irish related decor. The waitress immediately came to serve us. She kindly answered menu questions and quickly found the game for us while we picked our food. The Irish theme isn't reflected in all the dishes but I was excited that most sandwiches were on pretzel buns. Was a little disappointed that on this cold rainy day they only had chili - no soups (only during the week per the waitress but you think they'd always have a potato soup ‍) Speaking of potatoes, my wife had a medium baked potato that was freshly cooked and Philly Chicken sandwich that she enjoyed. My beef and cheddar sandwich was delicious- juicy, tender meat and the pretzel bun delivered. The upcharge for sweet potato fries was worth it. Lots of burger options (my dtr chose cheeseburger) and very reasonably priced. (7$ for 1/2 pound cheeseburger and fries). Average beer selection, but included the usual Irish classics. There was a nice view of the river, though it was a nasty day out. We speculated this would be a fun summer place. Three of us ate for under $40, incl tax/tip. Overall a very good value. read more

The restaurant has a nice position across from the water and you can sit out. As for food - I can vouch for the burgers being good and their fries are crispy and tasty. On the down side the place is cluttered, and dirty. The tables are sticky and the decor old and tired. But it's not clean. My mother always used to tell me to check the bath rooms - these are dirty. And a look into the kitchen isn't reassuring either. There were papers stacked on the bar - as if they just move them aside to serve customers. A good cleaning and redecorating - doesn't have to be extensive - just update - would make a big difference. read more

We have been going o Ryan's for years Last Tuesday 4 us ordered their well known cheese burgers 3 with blue cheese 1 with cheddar cheese .Well the blue cheese was just waterty salad dressing and the cheddar was cheese whiz .really! Just 2 weeks earlier 6 of went and left a $50.00 tip on a $100.00 Bill Well after complaining about the blue cheese we were told nothing could be done ,and did nothing about the $6.00 add on.So much for helping out your local restaurants read more

Nothing here is fresh. It's all frozen. So there's that. If you want frozen fried food, this is your spot. Best beer selection in the area, friendly staff. Restrooms and decor are mighty dusty. Hope that doesn't reflect the kitchen but we all know it probably does. Patio could use some music. read more

Had lunch today after the restaurant reopened ( Kankakee River flooded and the access road was closed for weeks.). Enjoyable lunch although we couldn't get Reuben's because the corned beef was frozen. And I ordered onion rings but got fries. That was okay - best fries I've had in a while. Waitress was attentive. Food was good. Enjoyed ourselves. And it takes a while to get the rhythm back after such a long forced closing. Grateful the River spared the place. Stopped in today for corned beef and cabbage in their first hour of serving. The corned beef was very tough. The butter knife we were given wouldn't cut through it. The vegetables were tasteless. Our first offer of a beer refill was after our dinner was completed. We dined early before the restaurant even had 6 tables full, so there was no excuse. read more
